View Full Version : Religion in WHF
Arexack_heretic Oct 11, 2006, 07:32 AM Can't believe this thread did not exist yet!
Religion is actually a misnomer in WHF: "the Gods are real and everybody knows it!" </prattchet>
It's just which gods you personally prefer and what those gods do for you.
Dwarven gods couldn't care less for humans, for example.
Maybe religion could be replaced by disposition...Evil--Good.
although in war all enemy are equally evil, an allegiance scale could help with realistic alliance/war behaviour amongst AI-players.
Most human-civs start out neutral...only when they develop their magics and religions will they drift towards evil or lesser evil.
Havent got many ideas on this subject though.
edit:
Can't believe this thread did not exist yet!
And I was right not to believe it.
Ploeperpengel Oct 11, 2006, 09:25 AM There is a thread about Religion already
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=174599
Arexack_heretic Oct 11, 2006, 09:28 AM I noticed...too late.
Could you fuse this one into the old one?
Or just delete this one.
Ploeperpengel Oct 11, 2006, 09:39 AM No problem we maybe can use it to summarize the old discussion here and make this a workthread.
Arexack_heretic Oct 12, 2006, 04:33 PM OK working...
I'm making a listing of the units that need specialised pedia entries.
Currently I have arived at the religion section and it is full of typos.
Uppercase/lowercase mix:
UNITCLASS_HIGHPRIEST_Valaya
the description makes no sense:
TXT_KEY_UNIT_HIGHPRIEST_Valaya
Which I started changing to "Highpriest of Valaya", but there are a lot!
And the pedia entries are not ever going to work like this:
TXT_KEY_CONCEPT_UNIT_HIGHPRIEST_Valaya, so those will be changed to //VALAYA_PEDIA
I like to keep things tidy in my XML-lists. ;)
edit:
Is the undercase God-nameing maybe a trigger for some function in the pedia?
eg Putting all acolytes/priests and incarnations of <God> into one pedia page?
Ploeperpengel Oct 12, 2006, 04:37 PM You definitly shouldn't work on the vanillaversion. Download the Warlordversion in this forum where all those units have been removed. They are leftover from the old beta by Jperiod. That doesn't mean we won't include some of those units but first we need religion started over.
Psychic_Llamas Oct 13, 2006, 01:19 AM Yes, i personally hated the way J Period was going to work religion, it needs a total make over.
take a look at the other religion thread and see what you think:)

WAAARGH! oh well, a cut/paste job only.
except for those religion units...sigh.
I don't have the warlords expansion, does that matter.
Psychic_Llamas Oct 13, 2006, 02:22 AM i dont expect it would matter for XML, but you wouldnt be able to test it.
Arexack_heretic Oct 13, 2006, 02:29 AM then it does matter. :(
Psychic_Llamas Oct 13, 2006, 02:34 AM no, i mean YOU wouldnt be able to test it, but ploe or olleus or someone who does have warlords would be able to. so it still dosnt matter :D
Arexack_heretic Oct 13, 2006, 02:41 AM grrr. I want the fruits of mine labour!
Ploeperpengel Oct 13, 2006, 06:30 AM Warlords is a must have I'm sorry you both should get it asap.
Arexack_heretic Oct 13, 2006, 08:12 AM I'm short of cash right now. Even had to ask for a delay in paying my tuitionfees. :(
...Then again I must feed my addictions. :)
Has it gone 'gold' yet? (price redux)
Ploeperpengel Oct 13, 2006, 08:29 AM No idea. Google bestprice, buy it second hand or try to get it from a videostore and use a cd image.
Psychic_Llamas Oct 13, 2006, 09:29 AM Yes, im dying for it, no need to rub it in  ;)
I said before, i need an new computer before i can buy it, otherwise it will just sit here gathering dust. (and i need an new DVD drive  )
Ploeperpengel Oct 13, 2006, 12:44 PM If civ runs Warlords will as well. However I think this thread is offtopic enough now to better discuss anything religionrelated in the old thread:p
