CIV Gold 4.0 Available for Download

HERE (http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=7742)

CIV Gold is a civilizations mod for Civ4 that combines some of the most popular user-created civilizations, while applying standards for graphics and content across the board. It can be used as a standalone mod to give users more options in their games, or it can be used by mod-makers to add a “plug-and-play” civ component to their projects.

With CIV Gold we are attempting to create the “definitive” civ add-on for users and mod-makers, alike. This pack is meant to be focused, complete, and comprehensive.

Version 4.0 Frequently Asked Questions

Q: So what's included in CIV Gold 4.0?

There are 90 new civs and an additional 24 new leaderheads (apart from those created for the new civs). The theme of the release was "Time and Place". There is representation, therefore, from all parts of the globe and all periods of human civilization. This accounts for the inclusion of some rather interesting empires.

Q: Why did it take so damn long?!

A: Project members come and go, real life intervenes. Since starting CIV Gold, I've had one son get older, added a second son to the mix, changed professional projects a few times, moved across the country twice, took on other community volunteer work, etc. And that's just me. All contirbutors face similar challenges - school, work, family. But when the project looked as though it would die, it didn't. And here we are.

Q: Why does this pack replace 3.0? Why not release it as an add-on. The download is huge!

A: Two reasons: 1) we did not want to maintain two releases due to the time involved, and 2) most importantly - many fixes, edits and additions were made to existing 3.0 civs. It's worth downloading it again.

Q: What changes have been made to existing 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 civs?

A: Too many to list, but thanks to the community, we now have more options to play with - more leaderheads, more units, more buildings. Among those civs receiving a facelift are Argentina, Sioux, Armenia, Iroquois, Aniyonega (UU), Canada, Sioux, Babylon (LH), Ireland, Iroquois (UB), among many others. Also addressed are typos, text consistencies and scaling.

Q: The mod appears to hang the game when I start it. I run BtS and it does nothing.

A: It only appears to hang the game. The load time is considerable, given the amount of XML it it loading (20+ XML files for each new civs, another 5+ for each added custom leader). Be very patient - on most systems it will take 5 minutes or longer to load.

Q: So the load time is 5 minutes or more??

A: We've done our best to make the downloaded file manageable, going from 1.1 GB (yes, GB) to under 300 MB. But the content demands the size, pure and simple. As for load times, it's the same thing - lots of content, lots of loading. Try starting the game, taking a bathroom break and making a snack.

Q1: Why are there some problems with LH animations?

A: In an effort to diversify LH appearances, animations were mixed, additional accessories were added, etc. This sometimes creates unforseen issues. In the end, the decision was made to keep "mostly cool, but slightly problematic" animations. Known issues inlude: missing head parts for Tecumseh, jewelry clipping for Po Ngbe, headpiece flickering for Shakushain, transparency issues with Cetshwayo and David, shading issues with Salamasina.

Q2: Speaking of leaderheads, the quality...ummm..."varies".

A: Yes, it does. Some LHs were done back in 2005 (believe it or not!) when authors were just learning to play with the files. Others were done hastily to fill a need. The team is exceptionally proud of many LHs, thanks to the community.

Q: Hmmm, I don't think [leader name] looks very much like him/her.

A: We've tried our very best to create LHs that bear some resemblance to the real thing. In some cases, we tried with multiple models and had to choose the "least worst" among them. Anything short of creating new models meant than compromises had to be made. We recall past objections and we know there will be new ones. Advice on alternatives is always welcome.

Q: Are there plans for 5.0 or any additional content?

A: Yes, plans are underway for an add-on pack that will feature some of the more controversial figures in history - Hitler, Pol Pot, Pinochet, and Mussolini, among them. Two new civs will join this "terrible" mix, as well. It will be optional for those who do not like to include such things. This may be expanded to a 5.0 version if content warrants.

Q: I like new civs and all, but isn't this now incredibly unbalanced away from Firaxis civs?

A: Gold civs now outnumber Firaxis civs significantly. If you want a bit of extra content but do not want to be overwhelmed by it, I have two suggestions: 1) edit the appropriate CivInfos XML to make the selected civ "unplayable" by you or the AI (don't want the Tupi? Change the XML to unplayable), 2) when setting up a custom game, leave 2-3 slots open for Gold civs and populate the others as you see fit - Romans, Greeks, Spanish, whatever.

Q: I've noticed a bug in the mod. What's the best way to report it?

A: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=255076

February 26

Back home in Edmonton and everyone is safe and sound. My father had triple-bypass surgery last Friday, and honestly? He looks as good as he has in the past 5-10 years. The trip was not made under the best of circumstances, but it turned out to be a good thing - he feels and looks better, the kids got to see my parents, and we all spent some time together (plus, I got a much-needed week away from the office).

Fierabras and I (with some amazing work from Amra) did manage to get a couple of things done while I was on the road, so we are poised to get 4.0 out this week. Tonight we should be able to assemble the final pieces and spend tomorrow doing some testing.

Some comments have been made regarding balance, and I'm not sure how much we'll be able to look at before release. But any comments sent our way will be considered.

Cheers,
D.

February 19

Well, I was able to get an enormous amount of work done last night and today, and we're very close to done. Fierabras has had a crazy weekend, as well, so while we're close, we're not ready to release right now.

It does look, however, like we can still release before week's end. Obviously if things do not go well for my family, this will not be the case.

Cheers,
D

February 18

Hi guys,

My father suffered a mild heart attack a couple of days ago and he has to have triple bypass surgery on Thursday or Friday. I'm heading out east tomorrow with my wife and kids to be there and won't be returning until Monday.

He's an older man - 86 - but is in great shape (and in great spirits right now) and the doc fully expects him to pull through with flying colours.

This has made the past few days a bit hectic. We were planning to release on Wednesday the 20th (we have the complete build done but are just squashing bugs like bad tags, typos, missing buttons, etc.), but because I'll be gone, the release will be next week (unless I can manage to get everything done tonight and tomorrow afternoon - unlike, though, as I have to pack for me and the kids).

We do, however, have our final build done with all the civs and leaders we're going to have - and it looks damn good, I must say.

If I can get things done tonight, Fierabras will create an installer and will upload it. I will have my laptop so I can make the link and announcement from anywhere.

So everything is done. We are just tweaking and catching things we missed.

I'll post an update tomorrow.
Cheers,
D

Status - CIV Gold 4.0 - Feb 5, 2008

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your continued patience as we strive towards the release of CIV Gold 4.0. As you have no doubt noticed, 4.0 hasn't been released yet. :) The delay is a good thing, though. Sometimes delays are due to team members going AWOL or materials going missing, etc. None of that is the case here. Rather, we're taking the opporunity to ensure that everything is as good as can be before going out.

One of the reasons for our delay is a revamping of many of our LHs - some previously released, others due for release in this pack. I can safely say that 4.0 will be much sharper and have far more artistic variety than was provided in 3.0. We've subsituted many unique units and unique buildings, as well, in an effort to elevate the graphic quality of the mod. Also in the cards are fixing some buttons and colours. We kidnapped the good graces of some community members and have been working double-time over the past week.

So when's it due?

Well, we're trying to coordinate with a few busy people, but it'll definitely be out in February. The sooner the better, of course, but when it is done we want it done well.

Check out the screenies below for a small peak. I'll post a few more in the days ahead.

cheers,
Wyz_sub10

[BtS] CIV Gold 3.0 FINAL now available for download

After much tweaking, pulling and fussing, the official release of 3.0 for Beyond the Sword is now ready and available for download. For those among you who have downloaded the beta, thank you for your interest and feedback. It is strongly recommended that you download the Final, as it has several tweaks and many additions.

Please feel free to leave any comments you may have on the download page or, preferrable, within this forum.

Thank you for your continued interest and support. :)

- fixed several diplomacy errors and added diplomacy text
- several corrections to typos and puncutation

CIV Gold 3.0 beta for Beyond the Sword now available

http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=7742

This is a fully functional version marked as beta only because there are a number of small tweaks and additions to be made. The final version will be posted soon and will need to be re-downloaded. Many of you may be content with the beta as the final will more consistent of some additional LHs and some art swaps.

Status - Nov 4

So what's taking us so damn long?

Well, two things - real life is very, very heavy for some of our team right now; and some of the changes for modular loading have had a curve associated.

The plan is to complete the existing 3.0 version to BtS over the next few weeks, then focus on 4.0. I have given (and broken) so many target dates for 4.0 that I don't want to do it again.

I apologize to those in the community patiently waiting for this.

Sorry all, but the date's been pushed back a couple of days.

3 reasons - still waiting on some art from our busy team members; still sorting out a couple of XML issues; stupidly forgot about UB icons, so I'll need to do those.

Just a couple of days...still moving full steam...

In the meantime, here is a collection of Unique Building icons I just finished making (made all 30+ tonight, but here's a sample). See if you can guess the building and the civ (I think the names might even be partially visible).

Monday. For real this time. :) We had 4 different people needed to meet deadlines this weekend. The good news is that they all did. The bad news is that, like an idiot, I forgot a critical file at work. D'oh!

I'll send it to myself tomorrow and upload the whole thing.

It will come when it comes what I am wondering is will it be affected by the warlords patch that is supposed to be coming out soon?

Probably. :) Hard to say until we know what the patch does. But the good news it, I have a few things I want to add to gold but don't want to delay this release to do it. I can just add them to update with the patch in a few weeks.

is Scotland still in or removed because Celts in? if in, what's the UB?

Scotland, Ireland and the Celts were all in vanilla 3.0, so they all remain in the Warlords edition.

Firaxis' Celts have the Dun (wall) as their UB. Scotland uses the Mercat Cross (market) and the Irish use the Publishing House (library).

I've noticed 2 mistakes with the Albanians:

1) Their UB should be called Llogor (with 2 L's), not "Illogor."

2) Their UB should replace the factory (NOT the barracks) and give +2 experience to gunpowder units, or maybe even +3 since only gunpowder units would get that advantage considerably late in the game.

Aside from that, the building representing the llogor doesn't look bad.

Ugh. You know, I had Llogor originally, then thought I had made a mistake and changed them all the wrong way.

Aside from that, the building representing the llogor doesn't look bad.

If it replaces the factory, then +3 is probably appropriate. Did you notice the DDS icon? That's an actual church in Albanian Azerbaijan that played some role in the war with the Turks.

What does Albania have to do with Azerbaijan?

I was reading that North Azerbailjan in the 5th century was heavily populated with ethnic Albanians, with the region being known as Caucasian Albania. It was an interesting story and I was taken with the pic, because it kinda sounded like what you described.

But if you have a more appropriate pic, let me know.

Albania and Caucasian "Albania" (Aghbania) are two completely different things that have no relation to each other, with the exception of a name, the latter of which is (I believe) latinized. Ethnically, racially and linguistically, they are 2 separate peoples.

Montenegrins, Serbs, and others against the Albanians tend to perpetrate the argument that Albanians and Aghbanians are related to discredit the Illyro-Albanian continuity and try to eliminate the Albanian claim to Albanian-inhabited lands in the Balkans, especially Kosova.

The Albanians speak an Indo-European language, the descendant of the ancient Illyrian language, while the Aghbanians speak a Caucasian language. The only similarity is the name: but keep in mind during the middle ages Scotland was also called Albania ...

I'll see if I can find a more appropriate picture.

Drtad
Oct 27, 2006, 07:49 AM
Yes, Shqype is correct. In Armenian culture, we do not refer to Caucasian Albania as Albania, we refer to them as Aghbania.

First time I have seen this mod - didn't notice this in the first post. Do you use the 24 civ or 32 civ dll to allow us to play more civs in a single game?

Does this mod work with one or both of those two modified dll's?

I have taken a long break from modifying my map and playing the game due to delays (and now lingering problems) with the warlords patch... this mod might actually get me interested again.

I noticed a couple bugs for civgold

Karl XII First contact screen says act txt first contact
Mayan Sun Temple the Sid Tips is says Txt act sun temple error
Purple Square underneath Brazilian UB

Not exactly what it says but it is the commen TXT error in most mods

The tips for the UBs will all be TXT messages, as I didn't do the strategy pieces for them. Wil do that for the next version, though.

As for the Brazilian UB, I think I've figured out the problem for that, but I'm not sure I can correct it. I have a workaround for the next version, though.

First time I have seen this mod - didn't notice this in the first post. Do you use the 24 civ or 32 civ dll to allow us to play more civs in a single game?

There are no dll changes in the mod.

Does this mod work with one or both of those two modified dll's?

It should. I believe others have created maps for this mod, but you'd have to poke around to see. There's no reason it *shouldn't* work with modified dlls.

I have taken a long break from modifying my map and playing the game due to delays (and now lingering problems) with the warlords patch... this mod might actually get me interested again.

Thanks - just downloaded the warlords version

Would you care to mention what program uses the 7z extention? Didn't see it in first post and have never downloaded a file with that extention before...

edit - just found out that winrar should open it - it MAY be worth a mention in first post for people that only have winzip handy

7z Is 7-ZIP. Again a free version is available to those who are looking for it from Download.com.

7z is a very strong Zip program that compresses a lot heavier then Winzip used to. Not sure if this is the case anymore since Winzip is now on Version 10.0 It may be as strong as 7-Zip is now. Anyways Not interested in a debate about which is better. just to mention 7z is compressed by 7-zip.

Not sure what the "Again" part was all about...

it wasn't mentioned on the first post on this thread or the page the link of the file is on...

It's mentioned on the first post of the CIV Gold thread in "New Civilizations", but I didn't replicate the instructions here when we got our own forum.

I'll add it to the the op and the download link, thanks.

FTR - I actually like using 7-zip quite a bit for these projects because it does an excellent job with compresion - probably shaves about 20mb off the size.

Quick question, is the CN Tower included in this version, I couldn't find it my game, is this an error or are no new wonders included?

I added a couple of Canadian wonders to the Canada Mod - CN Tower, Oil Sands, Hockey Night in Canada - but I didn't add them here. This is basically just for civs, as mentioned, but in time we will consider doing "add-ons".

In the meantime, there is a good wonders mod out there that adds CN Tower plus others, and Sevomod adds some as well, plus most of the Gold civs.

It's not too tough to add, though. In the Canada Mod, find the appropriate art folder, then cut-n-paste the XML code from BuildingInfos, CityPlot, and the text file into the matching Gold files.

That's really odd. I've never seen or heard of that problem before. I can't imagine it has anything to do with with mod because there isn't anything in there that addresses the map layout.

D'oh!

Sorry I didn't get to this sooner. I made the movies using a program called "Blink and Smacker" to convert jpgs into bik files. You can set the display length of the file. So you don't get an animated movie this way, but you can at least get some display images. (The HNIC image took me forever to get right :))

hmmm must of been something i accidently check then, cause even when i allow for a random civ it starts me in the same place on the same map everytime oh well ill just keep regenerating the maps as i start new games.

The amount of civs playing at the same time depends on the DLL mod (like the one you describe). CIV Gold adds 43 civs to Warlords and 49 to the regular version, meaning you can have 50 unique civs with no repeated civs or leaders.

Great!

Lots of both - we have probably a dozen or so new civs to add, plus the addition of a few new LHs for exsiting civs.

I've asked purplexus for the files as well, but better to get them after you. That way I can start adding the new civs.

Impaler[WrG]
Jan 04, 2007, 06:08 PM
You dont need Perplexus's files to get started on new content If you use the new modual format then you can do them all independently, thats the whole point after all. It would be best to work on the new Civs as moduals right from the get go. New leader heads can be moduals as well. While you focus on new contents I'll convert the old contents, then just combine everything a a big zip for download along with the special DLL and the nessary supporting files that I dont have modularized.

I tried to install Gold 3 for warlords, but i don't see any text whatsoever. I can navigate out of rememberance, but naturally it's very difficult. If I reach the civi-selection, I see the names of Albania and Canada, but no others. I use the german version of warlords, but other mods do work (for example drtads first people mod).

The German version is the problem. :)

After patch 1.61, mods made in English no longer worked with foreign language versions (I think mods made after did).

This should be corrected in CIV Gold 4.0 which will be out in a couple weeks.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

One typo I noticed is in the Dutch civ city list. Instead of "Enchede" it should be spelled "Enschede".

In the pedia text for the Dutch leaders some characters have been used which are not displayed correctly in game. I suspect this is a general problem for other civs as well. Using XML-encoding like "Fran& #231;ois" (without the space) for "François" fixes the problem.

Hi all

I just discovered how fun it's multiplayer game.
will Civ Gold 4.0 support multiplayer game (direct ip, e-mail...)?

Thanks in advance

P.S.: do i want to play Civ Gold 4.0? No!! I NEED to play Civ Gold 4.0 :P

If both people have Gold 4.0 installed and are playing the mod, it should play just fine.

If a utility could be made that made ease in some of the functions, that would be helpful. But I'm not sure exactly what would be required.

Maybe a tag maker for City/Unit names?

There was a plan to include it, but *as the Firaxis coding currently exists*, it would take too long and be too cumbersome to include at present.

But read that carefully and be patient for a couple months. ;)

Duely noted and I look forward to it.
I actually spent the morning borrowing code and unit images back and forth between the ethnically diverse mod and Civ gold, I got the initial warlords Civs in Gold to have the diversified units...it just took me four hours to get it right
Please don't hate me for taking it upon myself to make modifications to such a great piece of work, I just really really wanted to play at least one game where I didn't have to worry about everything but my Impi being white but I couldn't bring myself to drop all the wonderful civ additions from Gold.

Of course not! If you want to volunteer to do this with 4.0 when it's complete, you're welcome to pitch in. :D

My understanding is that this sort of thing may be easier with "Beyond the Sword." If so, then we'll probably add it at that time.

TheLastOne36

how about after Beyond The Sword is released, you take the new civs from warlords and Beyond the Sword and put it in the mod.

That way you could make your version of the mods released seperatly so people who hate the way fireaxis made them, they just get your mods. And the people who want fireaxis version get them. it could be a mini project after you release Civ Gold 4.

purplexus
May 21, 2007, 07:52 AM
Civ Gold 4.0 will be modular... meaning that all civs you don't like can be taken out by simply not putting their folder in the mod folder. If beyond the sword follows this same coding... they can merge without any effort... My eventual goal is to have all Mods make their code modular. So you get exactly what you want out of your game.

Unless one isn't allowed to add new tags to XML files without editing other, non-XML files.

Yes Exactly!

But lets say you find another Civ that isn't in the Civ Gold list and you wanted to through it into your mix... You could just drag it into the Same folder and VOILA! you now got that civ added in. (IT MUST BE ALSO PROGRAMMED INTO THE PLUG AND PLAY FORMAT) and trust me in the next couple months this will be the way to do things.

Jerrymander: Modularization requires that one include a local Schema in each modules so if one had the proper read code in a specially moded and compiled DLL it could read new XML elements out of one particular module without having to modify any of the other modules.

Fortunatly for your particular request its even easier, few people realize that Civ4 vanilla has all the code and xml tags nessary to implement Unique Buildings, it was just not utilized in vanilla.

Their are a number of other xml tags that were never used by Firaxis but prove useful for several mods.

This would be correct... But I must stress... that each of the two polish civ's must be in the plug and play format.

The changing of these civ's to Plug and play Format takes about 1 hour and the process is going well as I convert each of the CIV GOLD 3.0 civ's. But realize I have yet to attempt any other civ's in any other mods so most likely it will take the release of CIV GOLD 4.0 + The plug and play format to catch on like wild fire. This will probally be the case as we get going.

In that case I will continue on with my attempts on the current Gold build and see if I can get it up and running for the rest of Civs in there, if so I would probably be more than happy to volunteer, this was just my first time ever working with XML so I'd like to get the practice before I make a formal commitment.
My only request would end up being information on which ethnicities to use for which Civs, but the Civlopedia entries would probably solve that for me simply enough.
Currently I have the basic Warlords Civs skinned and played my first game with it as Korea, Mali and India were computer controlled and I have made it through most of the game (I am currently increasing my armament for a final push into a domination victory). There havn't been any bugs or hiccups yet so it all seems good.
I can't take credit for anything other than leg-work (or perhaps finger-work?) I used Rabbit's code as I don't know enough yet to write my own.
My ultimate goal is to skin all the Civs under Rabbit's Ethnically Diverse mod and then double back and add assorted other units (I recently came across the wonderful Mongolian mounted units and would enjoy having more than just the Keshiks, even if it is just for models.) But I will keep track of who's stuff I use and be, as I said, more than willing to help out with Gold 4 afterwards if I can get my head fully wrapped around the codes.

Actually you will be able to do exactly that. Amra's Mod I am working on at the same time as CIV GOLD. Because a lot of the data is the exact same. so it become a double whammy to make it plug and play for both. And because both mods will be in plug and play form... then can merge that easy...

If possible, I would like the adjustment to the Polynesians where Hawaiians are their own civ.

The Hawaiians were a tremendously significant culture to the British, Americans, Japanese, Chinese, Koreans, Filipinos, Portugese, other Polynesians and many other cultures in their ties with the Pacific. Hawaiʻi became a major trade station between the western and eastern hemisphere and a melting pot of race and culture from all over the world.

Due to it's key location in the Pacific, the United States of America overthew the Hawaiian Monarcy in 1893, created the Republic of Hawaii in 1894, and officially annexed Hawaiʻi as a US territory in 1898. The bombing of Pearl Harbor in Hawaiʻi on December 7, 1941 by the Japanese is what threw the US into WWII. Hawaiʻi became a state in 1959. With the overthrow, tourism and the infusion of world cultures in Hawaiʻi, Hawaiians as a race has become diluted, but recent resurgences of culture, music, language, and political issues concerning native Hawaiian rights have brought Hawaiians back into recognition as a race with a unique culture and history.

To make Liliʻuokalani, Victoria would be a great starting base. They have very similar styles. As for colors of the crown and sash, I would go with red for the crown and yellow for the sash. For the dress, maroon or dark brown would work.

I can see a version of Kamehameha has already been made, but if he were wearing a feather cloak (perhaps taken from a different leaderhead, that would make it even better.

For the Hawaiians, the Unique Unit would be Nā Koa, or the spearmen. (Nā means "the" plural, Koa means warrior)

Here is more on Hawaiian weaponry (http://www.coffeetimes.com/weapons.htm) as observed by Captain Cook and other westerners.

The ancient Unique Building would be a heiau (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heiau) or Hawaiian temple. It was probably the most prominent and lasting structures Hawaiians built before western contact.

This is an interesting article: http://the.honoluluadvertiser.com/article/2005/Jul/02/ln/ln22p.html

A more modern structure for the Hawaiians would be the Iolani Palace (http://www.iolanipalace.org/).

WingedPaladin,

This is something for us to consider in future versions, but it is unlikely to change for the time-being. While the Hawai'ians are distinct (as are, say, Cook Islanders), the truth is that in order to represent as diverse a population as possible in CIV Gold, we had to make some groupings.

@purplexus: please, don't be angry with me... What I was trying to say is, instead of having CIV GOLD 3.0 and Amra 2.10 mods separatedly, in my pc, I would like both mods be like as one, so I would load multiple mods at once (changing doubled civs names, of course).I know I have to merge them, but I don't know how.
May be I'm a little lazy, you know, but I think this is really difficult to make, mostly to a person like me that just know (a little) to play CIVs.I tried but didn't get it.
I asked if it was 3.0 or 4.0 because Amra told me that may be in 3.0 I can't do it but in 4.0 I would. He explained why, I don't remember now.

Can you, not now, but someday teach us how is "changing these civ's to Plug and play Format "in a tutorial for dummies like me?(Pleeeaaaase!!!)

well, the idea is very good. Practically everyone in Brazil loves soccer. This is an great idea for Brazil's unique building. I am just saying that practically every gringo (how we call the not-brazilians. mwahahaha.) thinks that here is just carnival, soccer, samba, Rio, plastic surgery and women in the beach. Well, anyways I have some another Ideas:

Fortaleza (replaces walls, more 1 happyness, can transform one citizen in enginner)
Police Station (replaces jail, -40% war wearinnes, more 1 health)
Park (replaces Courthouse, -50% city maintence, more 1 health and more 1 :))
Quilombo (replaces something and makes something )

but in all the options I prefer the Soccer Stadium :p
but change the name from "Estadio de Futbol" for "Soccer Stadium" or "Estádio de Futebol" ;)

I was wondering whether you were going to include the missing civs from Amras pack, particularly the ancient ones such as Etruria, Picts etc.

I also wanted to say that there are two guys Elgrillo and Aranor making some great ancient age civs such as the Samnites etc, great stuff for the birth of Rome. i was wondering if it helps to have the civs already researched and stuff. They also have unique leaderheads and things.

Theres a couple of civs Im missing for Rome, i need elgrillos samnites. well Ill shut up now and help. Nothing fancy standard rules 4000 start just be hsitorically sensitive and a bit imaginative. The World of Civilization Team is doing a massive overhaul for all CFC mods to make them BTS compatible. It just so happens that I joined up with them. My first goal is to make the CG4 civs compatible.

I've got a lot of new content to upload to the repository. :goodjob:

One question - how should we handle music? It's all done, save for the XML work.

Estimate as to when civ gold 4 (bts compatible) will be released?

Well, got word from the doc that our 2nd is due sometime over the next few days, so that's going to slow things down. :)

It would be really nice to wrap it up in 2 weeks, but that's damn amibitious.

Music goes all into one file. Its not modular.

BTS Compatible I guess will be my undertaking. As I am already working on the content already set to be released and converting it. I can't go any faster then those creating the content

Hi guys.

Well, we have a new addition to the family - Alexander Michael arrived at 9:19 on Tuesday morning. He's a wonderful little guy, with an amazing mom and a great big brother.

I'm at home this week, but things are crazy as you might imagine. I'm dead tired most of the time but I'm going to try and update the 4.0 civs with the work I did just before leaving work last week.

well, the idea is very good.

Exactly, it's Portuguese, not Spanish. ;) With some thinking we might come up with something more typically Brazilian though. The football stadiums in Brazil are for the most part in pretty bad shape. Not something to be too proud of.

How about a churrascaria or rodízio to replace the granary? Or maybe the UF (federal university) to replace the standard university?

Man, I'm getting tons of ideas for Curitiba now haha. Too bad Curitiba isn't representative for the entire country.

Btw, giving a police station as special building should actually damage the civ, if it is to reflect real life situations. Even in the wealthy south there is corruption.

AMRA COME BACK!!!!!!
Thanks, that makes me smile. :) Believe me, I wish I had the time to get back into Civ4 modding (it's way more fun than real life) but things are still just too hectic for me to dive back in right now. I think when and if I get back to it, it will be in a limited capacity such as creating new Civs & Leaderheads - I always enjoyed that part the most. The Modpack was a lot of work and had developed a life of it's own after a while. I'm also waiting to see if there any further BTS patches coming down the pike, as I suspect there will be (I always hated having to update everything for each little patch).

Anyway, I'd like to take the opportunity to say thanks to you and everyone else for keeping some of my work (civs, 2nd UU's, etc) still alive by converting it to BTS. That is very nice and much appreciated. :goodjob:

PS: Sorry Wyz for briefly hijacking your thread. :mischief:

Thanks everyone!

Okay, an update: a lot of civs are complete and converted for BtS. What's taking so long with the new civs is the small piecemeal things like icons, etc. But they're getting done.

Tonight I'm going to upload a tonne of new material to the repository, and other members are working on bits and parts.

Darn, you'r right! We have Finland! :D

Seriously, I want to be able to play as Finland WITH all the additional civs in the Civ Gold Pack.

Secondly, is there any other mod than the Road to War Add-on Pack, that enables playing as Finland?

Thirdly, It would be nice to see U.K Kekkonen remodeled more precise to hes real looks. Also additional leader, C.G.E Mannerheim for example, would add a very nice touch to Finnish civilization, in the sense that he was the one that contributed so much for our freedom and would have achieved even more, if the government would have backed him with a "little" larger budget when aggression from Russia was quite obvious. I mean that statement purely in mind of the Winter war, not in the sense of Greater Finland, that nazis were trying to sell to us :D

That arouses one question to me; how well do people here know the history of Continuation War, as we called it, and its reasons? For it seems to be common miss understanding that Finland was an official ally of Nazis, when in fact Finland never agreed to be an ally.

3.0 is already available for vanilla and Warlords, so you can get an idea of how it plays.

4.0 is moving very slowly. New baby, heavy workload, getting older - all of these combine for crappy free time. :)

Can I mention one thing, can you look at how the graphics work on some of your UU's? One I would mention from 3.0 would be Highlanders do not seem to run anywhere near the enemy when zooming in for combat.

Loved the detailing though! :D

I was wondering, if it were possible to add Risto Ryti as one Finnish leader? As it was he, who sacrificed him self for our independence, at the end of continuation war.

His background is in short; When Russians bombed Finland without declaring war in 26.06.1941, bombing 15 cities with strength of about 500 bombers, even when Finland had declared its neutrality in 22.06.1941. Finland had no other choice than allow Germans to interfere and agree their access to Finland territory in exchange of weapons. Risto Ryti took the fall, without agreement from congress, he signed an alliance with Germans. It was merely a strategic decision and only way Finland could survive, because Finns were totally cut of from allies and on top of that, Soviets were one of the allied forces. Finland tried to make an agreement with Sweden, but they chickened and pulled back. So, if it was not for Rytis sacrifice, we would have been part of Soviets ever since.

In sense, Finns were not Nazi spirited at all. There were few though, but it was a significant minority and partly because of the necessity of the situation, as being military contacts at Germany was not friendly, if you were not at all Nazi spirited and acted like arjan. Thats the only minority that I have heard of that was Nazi friendly, or friendly to their ideology. For example Mannerheim did not like Hitler at all and was not so exited when Hitler paid a visit at his birthday by surprise. I saw a video of it and you could tell by Mannerheims face

Anyhoo, theres a little bit of history about why Risto Ryti is one great Finnish person. And some background about how wrong the history is about Finlands war criminal status. There were some lectures at National World War II Museum in New Orleans about "Operation Barbarossa, Finnish-Russian Continuation War and the Karelia Question" in 6th december 2006 that explained about it and about the ongoing Karelia Question.

BTW, If you want to help our work with Karelian Question, please sign this plea (http://www.adressit.com/karjala_takaisin) to raise the question and help us to regain control over those long lost territories that Soviets took from us twice, breaking our non aggression agreements in the process. The reason why this did not come up back then, I do not know any better than this; The history is usually written by victors. Here is some info in english (http://www.prokarelia.net/en/), but I'm not sure where you could find more material about truthfulness of this statement in English. I'm sure however that it can be fou
