View Full Version : 4-8-4 Fef Northern (new engine)
Eilelwen Nov 01, 2006, 04:31 PM Well any of you who visit hooked on games knows about this but some may not. Yesterday I started to work on a new engine now I know there is already a 4-8-4 ingame but there are some differences here.
I have finished the tender(although I'm going to go back and reduce it). I have also started the engine itself which will probably take considerly longer to make and reduce then a simple tender. Also I'm trying to figure out why they did certain things some I'm figuring out others i'm still working on.
Sence some of this stuff is used in civ 4 maybe some of you guys can help me with the some of them. Mainly the .kfm file. probably won't be able to reuze other ones from other trains, that probably just won't work. as each train has different animations. Unless we just simply rebuild an engine for example I leave the drive of the current 4-8-4 alone and simply build a new body on it.
I would prefer to make new kfm files.

Eilelwen Nov 05, 2006, 11:41 AM atm I'm completly stuck. In that I can't export the corect nif files from maya that I need(I think) so for now all I can do is make the models, I can't actually do anything in game :/. well except for the red sphere of doom.
Drivebymaster Nov 05, 2006, 08:15 PM hmm...Maya is a nice 3d editor but I have heard 3ds max has had better results exporting models for Civ 4...maybe you should read up on some of those tut's here cuz theres bound to be one for Maya and that might solve something
Eilelwen Nov 05, 2006, 10:45 PM well I have a method now, but it may take 3-4 hours to do one models nif in nif skope. I don't know why importing the OBJ file into nifskope and saving works but it does. I really don't know that the diff is.
Although I haven't figured out why the texture is black, here is A F-Series B unit.
Eilelwen Nov 07, 2006, 12:03 PM well, I got the maya thing to work, but the mesh is invisble when its bound so as soon as I figure out the right way to bind the mesh, we might get new trains :)

Eilelwen Nov 08, 2006, 10:40 AM yea, I have a few things i'm going to try this morning, I'm gonna try a rigid bind not very hopefull on it but maybe I can use that one.
Eilelwen Nov 08, 2006, 02:56 PM ok well I got the B unit in game, No animations and it won't change texture to match the A unit, not sure where the link to do that is. I plan to do a whole bunch of things now, I plan to first expand the Diesel list of the US line and then add new train cars :)
Put all the contents of this folder here. also you may need the tender mod which someone has already linked to.

as well there are two maps with this (New Train) in the title those are the only maps where you can find this new train.

I am looking for a texture artist who is willing to help me add new trains into the game, I'm a good modeler and I have figured out how to add new trains/cars. But I'm not such a good texturer, so if anyone would like to help that would be great :)

Eilelwen Nov 10, 2006, 12:54 AM well texturing usually involves drawing the texture whatever it be on a set of UV maps, I am willing to do the UV map and then send it to the person. I can also give example of what the maps in railroads look like, as those would help.
