Hope you don't mind my duplicating a post I did in another part of this (massive) forum, but I think my post would be better placed here. So here it is:

This is weird. After I installed the 2.08 update a driver called boost_python-vc71-mt-1_32.dll could not be located after I clicked on the Warlords icon on my desktop. (This shortcut icon was created automatically on my desktop during installation). I searched for the missing driver file and it was found in the following directory:

C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Warlords.

However the Warlords shortcut icon on my desktop (which automatically appeared after the game updated to the 208 patch) points to this path:

C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4 - Warlords\Civ4Warlords.exe.

There are therefore two Warlords directories. I copied the boost_python-vc71-mt-1_32.dll file from the ... 4\Warlords to the ... 4 - Warlords directory and the next message I got when I clicked on the desktop icon was this:

"This application has failed to start because python24.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.'

And guess what, the python24.dll is located in the ...4\Warlords directory.

So obviously during the 208 patch installation procedure, the ... 4 - Warlords directory has been created, minus a lot of the necessary files, as located in the ...4\Warlords directory.

All I've got in the ... 4 - Warlords directory are the following:
Assets directory and subfolders/files
CvGameCoreDLL directory and subfolders/files
Mods directory and subfolders/files
PublicMaps and file
Shaders - empty folder
Civ4Warlords.exe file (version 2.0.8.0) - the Civ4Warlords.exe file in the ...4\Warlords directory is, as you'd expect, version 2.0.0.0.
Civ4Warlords_PitBoss.exe file (version 2.0.8.0 - ditto 2.0.0.0 version in the other Warlords folder).

If I click on the Civ4Warlords.exe icon in the ...4\Warlords directory I can run the CivIV Warlords game. But, of course, it is minus the latest update as its the 2.0.0.0 version. So if I check for updates, the game again tells me that the 208 update is available. If I try to do the update for the game again, the installation procedure is probably going to create another folder and stick all the subdirectories and files in there.

So what do I do to get the update to install to the correct directory?

And, second question, how do I go about uninstalling the 208 patch, because the way things are configured, Windows XP cannot uninstall Warlords via its Add Remove Programs facility, and, of course, there is no uninstall icon associated with this game? (Can't uninstall using the setup icon on the DVD because that recognises the 208 version is later than the version setup on the DVD can install, and it refuses to uninstall as a consequence).

HELP!

I experienced a somewhat similar thing. But for me, the updated files (e.g. Civ4Warlords.exe 2.0.8.0) were installed to some folder under My Documents.

Now, because I've installed this on my company notebook, and for some reason our profile information is backed up to some server, but the profile space is restricted (whatever); I have moved the new files & folders completely into the original Warlords directory under Program Files. Then I probably have updated the shortcut, and it works.

I'm in the process of trying to get the uninstall procedure sorted out on the phone with 2K technical support. Uninstalling Warlords 2.08 isn't proving to be at all easy (for the reasons I've given above). I'm waiting for a second e-mail from Tech Support, because it looks like I'm going to have to delve into the registry. (What a mess  ).

OK. I would not really count on Firaxis too much, but perhaps they'll help you. If you got tired of waiting, here's what I'd do:

1. The following post lists an idiot-friendly step-by-step guide to eliminating civ4 registry information (installation-related): http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=3972136&postcount=6. For Warlords, in step 3 use {3E4B349F-10B5-4586-9D99-489A90A8B228} instead of {CFBCE791-2D53-4FCE-B3FB-D6E01F4112E8}.

2. Before reinstalling, delete all Warlords contents. Check these folders:
C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4
C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\InstallShield Installation Information\{3E4B349F-10B5-4586-9D99-489A90A8B228}
C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\My Games\
C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\My Documents\My Games\

Thanks Crunch, but Tech Support has now solved the problem. In the end up the procedure involved:
1) Switching to 'Show hidden files or folders' in the Window XP's Folder Options (via the Tools menu).

2) Going to C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information (which is a hidden folder).

3) Deleting the {3E4B349F-10B5-4586-9D99-489A90A8B228} folder (this apparently precludes the need to make any registry changes).

4) Going to C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games and then deleting the two Warlords Folders, namely the Sid Meier's Civilization 4 - Warlords folder in the Firaxis Games folder and the Warlords folder in the Sid Meier's Civilization 4 folder.

5) Re-installing Warlords by putting the Warlords CD in the DVD drive. Autoplay still wanted to play the game, etc. so I had to then close the autoplay interface, go into My Computer and Explore the CD, then run setup via the setup icon. Installation of the 2.00 ('vanilla') version went okay.

6) Now the big test. The re-installation of the 2.08 update for Warlords. This I did through the Advanced option of the Warlords game interface (as I did originally). After clicking the Check for Updates option, the 2.08 update was acknowledged and I started the download. After download, 2.08 was working fine. On checking the C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games folder there is no Sid Meier's Civilization 4 - Warlords sub folder. The update was placed in the C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Warlords folder, as it should have been in the first place.

Question is, why did this problem arise at all? The only thing I can think of is that I might have put the CIV IV DVD in instead of the Warlords CD, then checked for updates. Then CIV IV might have recognised the 2.08 Warlords version and then mistakenly created the Sid Meier's Civilization 4 - Warlords folder during installation of the update. This is just a guess, but it seems the most likely explanation.
