View Full Version : Getting to know you thread
greekguy Nov 07, 2006, 11:46 AM there are only 3 people on Team C so far, but more will sign up, so we might as well start by getting to know each other. anything civ related like MTDG experience, skill level, or Civ variants you play (SG, PBEM, etc.) would be useful. also, anything you want everyone to know about you, so go ahead and post. :)
to get things rolling, i'll start off with myself.
hi all, i'm greekguy. i'm a Monarch level player and played in the last MTDG. i've been in 2 Civ 3 single-player DGs and was in the Civ 4 SP DG for a little while. i'm in a bunch of PBEMs right now, but i've never played an SG. i have a life outside of CFC, so i won't be here 24/7, but i usually visit between 1-3 times a day. also, i consider myself a good diplomat and i would prefer not to play the turns if i don't have to.
gbno1fan Nov 07, 2006, 03:43 PM Sigh. Finally was re-accepted to the team forum.
I am currently working on making the switch between monarch and the next level up (this has been a difficult switch for me).
I played in the last Civ3 MTDG on MIA from around turn 80 on. I also am playing in the Civ4 MTDG even though I don't own the game. I played one PBEM with other MIA-ers, but it fell apart after about 20 turns.
I am often busy with real life things but I should be able to put more focus on Civ in a few weeks when school lightens up.
I can provide good support on the planning of turns (such as giving orders for domestic or defense issues), but would prefer not to be a turn-player myself. Mainly this is because I cannot guarantee what time I will be able to play a save or even if I could play it in a 24 hour period.
lost_civantares Nov 07, 2006, 04:33 PM I was essentially senior lurker on the teams I've been on, mainly due to time constraints and playing ability. If worse comes to worse I might be able to play, but I doubt it. :(
Civ4 on the other hand I've had a bit of experience. :)
dutchfire Nov 08, 2006, 11:01 AM I'm Dutchfire, I'm Dutch (who could have guessed that?:p)
My level in Civ III vanilla was regent, but I've stopped playing it for a while now. I prefer Civ IV. I don't even own the expansions. I joined MIA a few turns before they won last time. I'm playing the single player Demogame, having had several positions (president, minister of science, secretary of state, censor and public defender if I remember correctly). I also play the Civ IV MTDG, I'm in Innovia.
btw. We don't have a turn-player yet have we? Maybe start recruiting a good player?
greekguy Nov 08, 2006, 01:16 PM btw. We don't have a turn-player yet have we? Maybe start recruiting a good player?
i'll do a little recruiting for some solid players i'm playing against in PBEMs.
lost_civantares Nov 08, 2006, 02:18 PM Is Chamnix available? We should at least PM him.
greekguy Nov 08, 2006, 02:29 PM just sent a PM to him now...
GreyBeard Nov 09, 2006, 08:19 AM Hi, I'm GreyBeard. I have never been involved in this type of game before but I am playing in several pbem games in Civ III PTW and Civ III Conquests.
dutchfire Nov 09, 2006, 08:25 AM At which level do you play GreyBeard? Any chance you might be playing some turns for us?
GreyBeard Nov 09, 2006, 08:39 AM The pbem games I am in now are evenly split between Regent and Monarch. When playing solo I play on Monarch. I probably could play some turns but will wait and see who else joins the team and is interested in playing before commiting myself.
greekguy Nov 09, 2006, 11:02 AM Is Chamnix available? We should at least PM him.
Chamnix responded to my PM. Basically, he said he was going to wait for the teams to have more signups before deciding on a team himself. He also said flattery is great, but bribery is better. any ideas on what to bribe him with? :mischief:
gbno1fan Nov 09, 2006, 07:13 PM any ideas on what to bribe him with?
Tell him he can build as many workers as he wants without a single objection.
greekguy Nov 09, 2006, 07:35 PM Tell him he can build as many workers as he wants without a single objection.
 i don't know, are we prepared to make that sacrifice? ;)
gbno1fan Nov 09, 2006, 08:12 PM The other option is to offer him a dictatorial, President for Life roll from the beginning.
I'd prefer to offer him the workers briber - besides, after watching him build 100+ workers and seeing the results, I plan on pushing for us to do that anyway.
classical_hero Nov 11, 2006, 03:24 PM We could promice to pay him 100 GPT
Calis Nov 12, 2006, 02:10 AM Hello I am Calis!
Single player I am on Monarch to Emporer lvl.
I am new to this kind of game.
What duties does playing the turns include?
GreyBeard Nov 12, 2006, 08:00 AM Being new to this style of game, I would also like a list of things that the player does once he receives the turn.
greekguy Nov 12, 2006, 08:23 AM well, in the last game things worked like this:
each team setup a gmail account and emailed the save to each other in a determined order. when the save reachs a team, they 24 hours from the previous teams' post of "GPS". the team would then discuss what to do, give instructions to the turnplayer, and then play the save. once the save is played, it is then emailed to the next team, and the team would post they sent the save on. if some sort of emergency (in-game or out of game) occured, then an extension can be asked for in playing time. an out of game emergency would be no one can play the save in 24 hours. an in-game emergency would be something like war declared or huge invasion.
hope this helps. :)
dutchfire Nov 13, 2006, 09:25 AM the team would then discuss what to do, give instructions to the turnplayer
Can't we give instructions before we get the save, so the turn-player doesn't have to wait 20 hours for everyone to come in to post instructions.
gbno1fan Nov 13, 2006, 09:29 AM I think instructions for the turnplayer can be posted whenever the official has a chance. If the turnplayer ends up playing before instructions are posted, the turnplayer would have the right to make a decision.
I suspect if a turnplayer does something that an official doesn't want when the official fails to post instructions before the turn is played, said official will automatically begin posting the instructions well ahead of time. ;)
dutchfire Nov 13, 2006, 09:32 AM Should we get some team-bonding started by the way?
greekguy Nov 13, 2006, 03:48 PM Should we get some team-bonding started by the way?
if you feel like it, go right ahead. :)
gbno1fan Nov 13, 2006, 08:05 PM Why don't we start up a team PBEM? I will have time to play in about a week.
Calis Nov 14, 2006, 12:32 AM I'd be in!
gbno1fan Nov 14, 2006, 07:52 AM Chamnix responded to my PM. Basically, he said he was going to wait for the teams to have more signups before deciding on a team himself. He also said flattery is great, but bribery is better. any ideas on what to bribe him with?
What's the progress on this? We should send him another PM. Bribe him with workers.
Chamnix Nov 17, 2006, 06:40 AM The other option is to offer him a dictatorial, President for Life roll from the beginning.
I knew I should have held out longer!
I am more of a GOTM player than a PBEM player. In single player games, I can win on deity with a decent start and have beaten Sid with great starts. I played on MIA last MTDG, and we had 2 team PBEMs going but neither finished. I joined another random PBEM in the middle, but I haven't finished one yet (not any fault of mine) other than MTDG I.

I think it was pretty clear you were going to win the first MIA PBEM.
I like to think I was going to win the second. ;)
Chamnix Nov 17, 2006, 07:32 AM I guess I can go back and read Mel's and azza's spoilers now to see what they had - it may have been clear to lurkers.
Elear Nov 29, 2006, 04:02 PM Hello, I'm Elear, and I'm new here around CFC, but have lurked since about the time of Moonsinger's 81k game in 2004.
I play HoF mostly, but this looked interesting so I figured I'd join in. Still, I'm just figuring out how these demo-games work so bear with me :)
I'd call myself a Deity level player... I can win Deity by a good margin with a pretty good start. If it's not so good though, probably more like Emperor level.
-Elear
EDIT: OH and I'm glad to be on Team SABER :)
greekguy Nov 29, 2006, 07:00 PM Elear, if you're still confused with the demogame stuff, you should try reading our constitution (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=4799477&postcount=2). if you have any questions, don't hesitate to post them. :)
Elear Nov 29, 2006, 09:00 PM Naw I got it figured out now :p
But I did read the Constitution.

lost_civantares Nov 30, 2006, 05:06 PM Yes! Another player sucked in! You will never escape! :mwaha:
Welcome to the Team. :)
Bartleby Dec 01, 2006, 12:14 PM Hi, I'm Bartleby
I'm entirely new to multiplayer and demogame.
In SP I should probably describe myself as Monarch player--that's the level that I can beat easily; a bad start can screw me at Emp, under favourable conditions I can beat DG. I need a fairly rigged start to stand a chance on Deity and I've never finished a Sid game.
I'm on GMT and I only have internet through work, I'm not online at weekends. I'm only looking for a very back-seat role for the time being.
Marsden Dec 01, 2006, 08:28 PM Hello, I am Marsden, as you can see by my post.
<------------------------------------------+
I can usually beat emperor. So so on Demigod. I managed a win on deity once but I haven't been able to duplicate the feat. A lot of my stuff can be veiwed here: HoF entries (http://hof.civfanatics.net/civ3/stats.php?show=players&userid=206&go=Go)
and here:31 civs in a thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=182607)
I post 95% from work, but I can access from home but I've got dial up for 6 hours a month.
Cyc Dec 02, 2006, 12:27 PM Hey all.
It's good to be back in a Demogame. I'll be lurking for a while. :)
Our great choice of tribe seems to be in good hands.
Donovan Zoi Dec 04, 2006, 08:57 PM Hey everyone,
DZ here, and a veteran of Civ3 Demogames and ISDG. I hope to stick around for a full game this time to see what happens. Some will notice that I like to speak out a bit, but it is always with our best interests at hand. Let's exhaust each opportunity that could grant us victory!
Calis Dec 05, 2006, 01:03 AM A welcome to all new team members!
classical_hero Dec 05, 2006, 03:01 AM We can never have too much discussion, DZ.
denyd Dec 05, 2006, 01:07 PM DenyD checking in here - Lots of XOTM (about 60) and HOF (about 10)games completed starting with GOTM # 1 and I'm comfortable on emperor and below. Can win on higher with good/great starts, but those games always feel too much like work.
A complete newbee to PBEM & DemoGames and though I'll probably be a somewhat vocal participant, I'll often bend to the knowledge of the veterans at this.
I'm a big fan of the Ottomans (really like the industrious trait, though it was better in PTW). My playing style is more of a builder who likes to win wars with small stacks (6-8) stronger units as opposed to sending waves of lower tech units.
classical_hero Dec 06, 2006, 05:38 AM Don't forget to join the [c3c] PBEM
