Other than Civ series ;) andyo Mar 28, 2002, 10:19 AM I'm with you - I'm always looking for other good games for when i need a break from civ - but i waste a ton of money on bad games - any suggestions out there? Crazy Eddie Mar 28, 2002, 01:55 PM Imperialism, I or II. :goodjob: Both excellent games. Imp II is I think still available, Imp I isn't but can be found as abware. Imperialism II: Age of Exploration is a strategy game set in the time of the exploration and conquest of the New World. You take on the role of one of the European Great Powers. Your goal is to dominate Europe using the tools of conquest and diplomacy. erix Mar 28, 2002, 02:54 PM :D I have already dominated Europe a few times as Indians. :D I'll check the "Imperialism II". Thanks. Flatlander Fox Mar 28, 2002, 10:14 PM Diplomacy of course! Or Europa Universalis! Or get a few old boardgames (AH of course:)), and play those! DaEezT Mar 29, 2002, 04:11 AM Well, how about Heroes of Might and Magic series, Master of Magic, Master of Orion series, X-Com Series, Age of Wonders, Empires of the Fading Sun and basically every round based game :) I can't wait for that DOS emulator to get really good so I can play Master of Magic again and the Crusader games :D damunzy Mar 29, 2002, 04:44 AM I would suggest MOO2, Master of Orion 2. Not exactly like Civ but very good TBS (TurnBased Strategy). puglover Nov 28, 2002, 01:33 PM Risk II! Oh Yeah! Wolfe Tone Nov 28, 2002, 01:58 PM If you're Star Trek fan Birth of the Federation is a good game. If not I can't help you munzy76 Nov 28, 2002, 11:36 PM BOTF is a little too buggy, especially on XP. I love the game but cannot play it because of it's bugginess. trader/warrior Nov 29, 2002, 05:39 AM medieval:total war VinCaiden Nov 29, 2002, 07:08 AM Imperialism II is a very good game to get if you love Civ. I like Worms Armageddon too. (Not quite like Civ but if you want a break from real thinking games then this is great. At least its turnbased.) Anyway, HMM2 is a good one as is MOO Got all these games and I love them. Oh, forgot this one, Lords of the Realm 2. Good turn-based game with warcraft2-esque fighting sequences. Dell19 Nov 30, 2002, 04:05 AM Originally posted by trader/warrior medieval:total war Definately :goodjob: Lucky Nov 30, 2002, 07:51 AM Master of Orion series, best either MoO2 or wait for MoO3 (only a few weeks ;)). Not sure if MoO3 will fulfill the expectations, but I sure hope so. :yeah: Other things to recommend are Master of Magic, Heroes of Might and Magic and in lesser extent games like Age of Wonders, Birth of the Federation and even the modded CtP1 or 2 ( :mischief: ). If you also play RTS, go for Starcraft. :D GenghisK Dec 01, 2002, 09:37 AM Anno1502... Cossacks and america conquest. Railroas tycoon2 too :) Phantom Lord Jan 07, 2003, 04:15 AM Master of Magic, of course. Takes some patience to get it to run with sound under Win 2000, but it's worth the effort if you want to time travel back into the nineties. If you like RTS, try to get your hands on a copy of Total Annihilation plus addon (Core Contingency). It's not exactly a new game, but still the best of its kind imho. The grafics are still acceptable, the engine is still brilliant and major battles still have that unique "there's no tommorow" feeling. Pillager Jan 07, 2003, 06:08 AM Cossacks, Imperialism I and II, and Europe Universalis. Portuguese Jan 27, 2003, 07:00 PM For an oldie: COLONIZATION For a new one: Europa Universalis II If you want to see real units: Age of Empire/Age of Kings/AgeofMitology series and Cossacks SMAC (Sid Meyer's Alpha Centaury)!!! Civ: Call to Power (I hate this one, but...) If you want to use magic and a Turn Strategy game with hero's and all type of sourcery: Heroes of Might and Magic Series (IV is the last one...) So many options... :D Smash Jan 28, 2003, 12:35 AM I'd like to think I am a Civer first and 2 games I enjoyed over the last year that are not Civ related are SimGolf and GTA3. Simgolf was a big surprise.Very addictive.Rumoured to be using a tweaked version of the SMAC engine.A nice stress free game.Demo available GTA3 was/is just an awesome game.Lots of discovery and strategy, not unlike Civ.Great thing is there are numerous ways to beat missions. Not the easiest game to get running unfortunately.Personally,I had no problems but many have. MajorGeneral2 Jan 28, 2003, 08:27 PM If you like the city-building aspect of Civ, then any of the SimCity games are a safe bet. Silverflame Jan 28, 2003, 11:56 PM Depends, because believe it or not, civ fans are actually really general. Civ is addicting either because of several personal preferences in games: Turn-based, empire building, warfare, and history. So probably go with what others have said for the first three (and possibly fourth), but you might also like RTS. In which case, go to AoEII (not starcraft because it is so old, I think it costs as much as civII now :p ). I wouldnt know, youll have to decide on your own I guess. :) KingWilly Jan 29, 2003, 06:11 PM The old Sid Meier classics are always good to play between games of Civ. Games such as: Railroad Tycoon Pirates! Colonisation Although the graphics aren't up to todays standards, the gameplay certainly is. Heaps of fun to be had with these games. They can found at many abandonware sites on the net, or even come bundled together in "classics" packages for under $10. |
