Well actually, we've heard from all members of the team (except one), and only Compromise and I have decided to continue to SGOTM3. I'm scrambling to hear from the RB community for interest to join the team, and I hope to get two more people signed up before the weekend (as we now have 3 members).

Unless those players have actually indicated a desire to be together, that - ummm- doesn't look to me totally consistent with a need to break up the Real Ms.Beyond team for lack of players.

I'd be happy to join the Real Ms. Beyond if they'd have a newb like me.

Whatever is easiest for AlanH, doing all the hard work around here.

OK, here's my reasoning ...

It is difficult-to-impossible to recruit substitutes into a SGOTM team after we start the game, as replacement players would have to arrive out of the blue, not having read any of the other team threads.

My target is to start with six players per team where they are all previously active, and seven or eight if there are players new to SGOTM/SG. This is because, in my experience, new players have a greater tendency to go absent or stop contributing, cutting the team strength and putting unfair pressure on those who are left.

Looking at the vanilla teams on that basis, New Vanilla got eight, as they are almost all unknown, and Gipsy Kings are at seven with 50% new players. CFR always turn up mob handed, with ready-made teams, but they too have several new players. Smurkz is maybe one player short, though they have some potential "reserves" on the bench in the form of their squad of lurkers. I would say footballguys is (are?) also vulnerable.

But the world continues to rotate, we have another sign-up for RB, and ngranger could go there as well. I'm prepared to run a small risk and move greggo across to RB as well, so that makes five. kodii has his team, preferably with one or two more RB recruits.

So, pending further developments, I shall open the team threads with this formation later today.

2) Goody Huts:
- are all removed,
- or just the ones near the starting position,

I only have the original game.
Monarch is my standard play level.
My GOTM experience was only Civ3.
I played 100+ SGs for Civ3, and approaching 20 for Civ4.

@LowtherCastle: Peanut are playing Warlords, not Vanilla. They also have a full complement of players. If you want to follow them as a dedicated lurker in their thread, that's an option, but you should ask them if that's OK.

Alternatively, I can ask another team who are playing vanilla if they need another player, or you can be put at the top of my standby list in case there are any Vanilla players who don't show up when the game gets under way.

You need more than a couple. Four players is an absolute minimum to make it a team game, and really six is a more suitable number to start with, given that the game can go on for up to three months, with all that implies for drop-outs due to real life. As I've said elsewhere, it is very difficult to draft in substitutes once the game is under way.
