View Full Version : Civilization Choices
Ginger_Ale Nov 15, 2006, 01:49 PM OK, now that we have determined that we will use the Civ3 MTDG I style of civilization selection, let's do just that. :)
UN Representatives, please copy this post into your forums so that your team members can discuss the following:
As a team, decide on the top 5 civilizations you would like to be. Order them, by order of preference with #1 being most preferred and #5 being least preferred out of those 5 choices. Send them via PRIVATE MESSAGE to RegentMan and Ginger_Ale (both).
We will then assign civilizations based on your lists, and use a RNG in the case of a tie for a certain civilization.
It would be nice if you could get this done by around the weekend, but this is probably one of the most important things to discuss, so make sure you weigh your options carefully!
classical_hero Nov 16, 2006, 06:52 AM I am thinking, wouldn't it be better for it to be first come first served. So that would mean that the team that sent in their choices first gets to have their first pick and then if there is a tie, the team that came in later would then have to go to their next choice, if both teams chose the the same first team. Thi is just a thought though.
Ginger_Ale Nov 16, 2006, 07:01 AM You guys voted MTDG I style, and this is MTDG I style, so I'm not sure what you're asking for. ;) Let's just go with it this way now that it has been chosen.
Tubby Rower Nov 16, 2006, 08:57 AM CAn we wait until the map has been decided or should we send the list as soon as possible?
Daghdha Nov 16, 2006, 10:13 AM I'll join my fellow Idiot Tubs in this question. Team GONG is ok with either map first, civ choise then or civ choise first, map then. Important thing is all teams are well informed on what'll be. As I stated elsewhere, we're fine with admins deciding this.
We're leaning towards Rik deciding the map style. If others agree Rik could give us a rough outline of map style, we could make our 5 choises asap based on that, then the Great Meleet could work on the map design while teams settle on the remaining issues.
Thanks for listening gents :hatsoff:
RegentMan Nov 16, 2006, 03:52 PM Well, you can always submit a new list if the map changes on you. :)
Ginger_Ale Nov 16, 2006, 03:58 PM (The reason I did it this way was because, just judging from discussion in the map thread, I thought most people wanted to just leave the map, apart from difficulty, size and civs up to Rik. If you don't know what the map is like, it won't affect your selections. ;))
Like Rik said, though, you can always change them.
Ginger_Ale Nov 28, 2006, 06:09 AM And here's the result! If you just want to skim it, read the bolded parts. ;)
For reference, here are the teams' choices:
1.Ottomans
2.Sumeria
3.Iro's
4.Celts
5.Byzan's
5.Chinese
1. Ottomans
2. Sumeria
3. Korea
4. France
5. Greece
1. Ottomans
2. Iroquois
3. China
4. Japan
5. France
1. Sumeria
2. Netherlands
3. China
4. Byzantines
5. Iroquois
1. Ottoman
2. China
3. Sumeria
4. Scandinavia
5. Babylon
So, TEAM FREE is automatically assigned Sumeria - they were the only team that had that as their #1 choice, and that trumps the #2 choices by GONG and The Council.
I used a RNG to determine a number between 1-4 (one number per team, as listed above): it was 4. TEAM SABER will be the Ottomans.
Now to GONG, Council, and BABE's second choices. Team BABE is the only one with Iroquois, so TEAM BABE will be the Iroquois.
That leaves GONG and the Council - both have Ottomans and Sumeria as #1 and #2 picks - both are gone, so to their 3rd picks. The Council has Korea, not chosen so far, so The Council will be Korea.
Only poor little TEAM GONG left - their first, second, and third choices are taken! We will go with #4, and TEAM GONG will be the Celts!
Sounds ok?
azzaman333 Nov 28, 2006, 06:38 AM Cool, never would've expected to see Korea in the MTDG.
Tubby Rower Nov 28, 2006, 06:40 AM  I guess everyone will gang up on team SABER since they took everyone's choice
Excellent work GA!!
Robi D Nov 28, 2006, 06:43 AM I can't believe 4 teams went for Ottomans:lol:
In fact all the choices were very similar. Anyway good luck to everyone
Edit- On a side note it interesting that all 5 teams had China yet no one ended up with them
peter grimes Nov 28, 2006, 07:42 AM I hope you're not confusing Korea with China... I know some people who would take offence ;)
Great system. It seems to have worked :)
Tubby Rower Nov 28, 2006, 07:51 AM No he meant China.. it's just that the council didn't have them.
Since I'm a nerd, I decided to figure out the most popular choices. I gave the teams' #1 5 points, #2 4 points......#5 1 point
1. Ottomans (20) <- Team SABER
2. Sumeria (16) <- Team FREE
3. Chinese (11)
4. Iroquois (8) <- Team BABE
5. Netherlands (4)
6. Korea (3) <- the Council
6. Byzantines (3)
6. France (3)
9. Celts (2) <- Team GONG
9. Japan (2)
9. Scandinavia (2)
12. Babylon(1)
12. Greece (1)
General_W Nov 28, 2006, 10:54 AM :wow: - Did anyone even put the Ottomans on their list in the first MTDG??
Thanks GA and Regentman!
dutchfire Nov 28, 2006, 11:36 AM Lucky us! I think people appreciate scientific more after MIA's display in MTDG1.
Tubby Rower Nov 28, 2006, 12:09 PM What about TNT's display?? they were scientific too. :p
I was a mememeber of KISS, but I'd bet that D'nut would have been someone not to be trifled with if TNT didn't attack so early.
Tubby Rower Nov 28, 2006, 12:19 PM :wow: - Did anyone even put the Ottomans on their list in the first MTDG??
Thanks GA and Regentman!Just checked ... Ottomans were tied for #1 in MIA, #6 on TNT's, not on D'nuts or KISS's list
BCLG100 Nov 28, 2006, 01:05 PM tubby, dude. Get out more :p
Tubby Rower Nov 28, 2006, 01:12 PM I do. But while at work I need a release. I can't access Hattrick, so nerding out on civ has to do. I dare not install civ on this computer or I know that I won't work and end up getting fired.
Chamnix Nov 28, 2006, 01:26 PM What about TNT's display?? they were scientific too. :p
TNT was scientific and industrious just like... :hmm:
greekguy Nov 28, 2006, 02:49 PM i thought it was only my team that was nuts, but you all (except FREE) went for Ottomans!! :crazyeye:
i would've been happier with China or the Babs, but seeing SABER has now managed to piss almost everyone off before the game, i feel this game is in the bag for us. this would be since TNT waited for the game to actually start before we made everyone furious, causing you all to go gunnin' for us. ;)
Vind2 Nov 28, 2006, 06:12 PM TNT was scientific and industrious just like... :hmm:
LoL good point.
azzaman333 Nov 28, 2006, 06:22 PM Personally, I really wanted to be the Netherlands. Stupid team out-voting me. :gripe:
AutomatedTeller Nov 28, 2006, 07:03 PM 3 agri civs... land is gonna fill up fast...
I predict that Rik gives us an 80% water arch map :)
Robi D Nov 29, 2006, 12:26 AM I hope you're not confusing Korea with China... I know some people who would take offence ;)
Great system. It seems to have worked :)
I though i saw China on The local councils list too...
Still i would have thought China was a bit of an outsidered yet it polled strongly. Some very interesting choices by all teams, this should be a great game.
fe3333au Nov 29, 2006, 10:59 PM Yes and having 5 teams will make it very interesting :D

The be honest it would not have been to bad having China go to us, since it was our second choice, but we got our first choice and thus it meant two teams got their first choice, one team got their second choice , one team got their third choice and one team got their fourth choice. I thought that would never happen like that, especially considering that every team got their first choice last time around. That means that there are three Ancient age UUs and two Middle age UUs.
So here are the traits as the teams have got for their civs.
Scientific - three
Agricultural - three
Commercial - two
Industrious - one
Religious - one
So that means the Expansionist, Militaristic and Seafaring are missing.
SimpleMonkey Nov 30, 2006, 04:44 PM I love it that we ended up with a civ that rated only two votes from our team. I predict great things.
RegentMan Nov 30, 2006, 06:40 PM I thought that would never happen like that, especially considering that every team got their first choice last time around.
Not quite true. K.I.S.S.' first choice was actually the Iroquois, along with Team Doughnut's. RNG gave Doughnut the Iroquois and K.I.S.S. the Celts.
Imagine mounted warriors versus hoplites and immortals versus... Swiss mercenaries! That first war would have been muuuuuch different without mounted warriors, in my opinion.
classical_hero Dec 01, 2006, 03:40 AM I stand corrected. This game should be interesting.
RFHolloway Dec 01, 2006, 07:14 AM I love it that we ended up with a civ that rated only two votes from our team. I predict great things.
Particularly as it only made it to 4th as it was one persons favourite:mischief:
denyd Dec 01, 2006, 06:06 PM To me the only thing more surprising than 4 teams selecting the Ottomans is no one selecting Persia
Elear Dec 01, 2006, 06:11 PM In the last game Persia was chosen by the first team to go down (though I don't believe that's why they lost). I think all the teams are thus shying away this game from them
donsig Dec 01, 2006, 07:37 PM To me the only thing more surprising than 4 teams selecting the Ottomans is no one selecting Persia
If the Ottomans have a cavalry type UU then I suspect that is why they were favored. Cavalry and railroads pretty much sealed the game for MIA last time out.
Daghdha Dec 02, 2006, 03:26 AM To me the only thing more surprising than 4 teams selecting the Ottomans is no one selecting Persia
Are you just lurking or do you wanna join (quoting admin) poor little team Gong :) .
denyd Dec 04, 2006, 05:07 PM Actually, I've been invited to join Team SABER and was looking to find out what a Demogame was all about before accepting.
