View Full Version : CFC Fantasy Baseball
Alcibiaties of Athenae Mar 30, 2002, 08:54 PM Something new, I have started a CFC league, and we already have 5 players, but we need three more.
If your interested, let me know, and I'll tell you how to join.
Time is real short here, and 3 people aern't alot, so it's first come first serve basis.
Magnus Mar 30, 2002, 09:22 PM Could you post some of the rules you use?
Ohwell Mar 30, 2002, 09:22 PM What the hell is fantasy baseball? I know what baseball is, but I don't know what fantasy baseball is.
PinkyGen Mar 30, 2002, 11:54 PM Heh, I signed up thanks to Corn's AIM's. How exactly does this draft work though?

Just click on the game rules.
Because we are late, there is no time to do a live draft, but with only 8 players, you will have qaulity at every spot, and you can trade players, and sign any undrafted players as free agents.
If this is popular, we can do Football and Hocky leagues also. ;)
Alcibiaties of Athenae Mar 31, 2002, 01:27 AM Only 2 spots left now! :D
Sixchan Mar 31, 2002, 08:34 AM What football? REAL football? Football where you use your FEET?
Flatlander Fox Mar 31, 2002, 10:58 AM That's not football!!!
That's soccer!
Butt out cricket boy!;)
Magnus, it's not too bad at all, and is an overall tourney... Shouldn't cut into your other activities!:)
Sixchan Mar 31, 2002, 11:46 AM How can a game that involves CARRYING with your HANDS be called FOOTball?
"Butt out cricket boy!"
What? That's England! England. E-N-G-L-A-N-D. Scotland. S-C-O-T-L-A-N-D. Difference. Flatlander Fox. S-T-U-P-I-D. j/k ;)
Also:
German: Fußball
French: le football
Portugese: football
American: Soccer
Notice a little difference? Every other country calls it football, so we're right!
We can't hold it against you, though. We sent the criminals to Australia, and the bad English speakers to America. :p

I thought it was the English who did that, not the Scottish... :p
Anyway, it would be cool with a football leauge (real football, not the american kind).
Magnus Mar 31, 2002, 12:09 PM I am very tempted, however, daily transactions would make me mental, so I shall decline, but I definitely would enjoy viewing a thread that follows the course of the season of the CFC League.
PinkyGen Mar 31, 2002, 12:17 PM Ouch, complicated. So once again, how does this draft happen. :)
Flatlander Fox Mar 31, 2002, 01:03 PM Aren't Scots just Englishmen with bad accents?
At least that's what I learned off of Braveheart and Austin Powers;).
I am NOT going to do daily transactions, as my schedule is extremely hit and miss...
SOOOO, I need somebody else as inattentive as myself to dwell in the cellar with me:D.

It's not dailey, it counts the events of three days as a game, and you only need check it every two weeks to keep it active.
You can't change players in the three game cycles, the changes won't come into effect till the next game.
If lazy assed Drake can handle it, I'm sure you can also. ;)
Magnus Mar 31, 2002, 03:37 PM DRAKE???? I thought that fellow sailed off the west end of the CFC continent.
And since Flatlander needs a basement flat-mate....
Count me in.
I am going to go create a team now - I need to know what kind of draft we are doing, I reckon.
CornMaster Mar 31, 2002, 08:49 PM Come on....we need 2 more players!!
Alcibiaties of Athenae Apr 01, 2002, 01:05 PM OK, Password sent to Magnus, one slot left! :D
Here's your chance to beat on ol AoA, the only one you will ever get! :satan:
Alcibiaties of Athenae Apr 02, 2002, 04:46 PM OK, we got our eigth player, the draft is April 5TH!
Good luck everybody. ;)
Alcibiaties of Athenae Apr 08, 2002, 07:20 AM The Scores haven't been posted, just the won/lost
Durham Maximum Losers over
Cornempire Niblets
Pinkygeneral Pinksters over
CFC Slackers
Levis Soldiers over
Townsville Stealths
Roman Legions over
Nebraska Flatlanders
Everybody remember, you can change players, claim any undrafted player from waivers, I did for 10 players already, and you can make trades.
Some of you have 3 or 4 closers, you can only use 2 effectivly, so make trades with people who have extra pitching.
(I will trade starters for a top closer).
When the scores are final I'll post them. ;)
Magnus Apr 08, 2002, 04:27 PM Ahhhh, apparently their threshers, tractors and bovines were no match for our shortswords, pilums (pila?) and tower shields. :p
Flatlander Fox Apr 08, 2002, 04:44 PM Yeah, i waived BOTH of my second basemen to pick up better ones, and then I didn't get ANY of them...
Oh well, there's alot of season left, right A-Rod, you worthless billion dollar man....
PinkyGen Apr 08, 2002, 10:23 PM Bah, you are all powerless before my mighty Pinksters (well that and Schilling saved my ass :) ). Had to mess with the computer with a bit, apparently it was on crack for not starting Bret Boone. I released some stupid guy ;) and got Alex Ochoa, a former Red.
Anybody have Danny Graves or Sean Casey. For sentimental reasons (they are Reds), I'm willing to entertain fair trades for them. I'll also trade some third stringer for the good for nothing, always injured but eats up the budget, Ken Griffey.
Flatlander Fox Apr 10, 2002, 06:45 PM I won my game against the Roman Bath-house Homosexuals!
How do you like my tractor now big boy!:p
P.S. holding my own against the Levi's team, WITHOUT a 2B or Util infielder starter!:D
SHEFFIELD for MONDESI!!!! What are you smoking? Look at my roster and make me an offer for Sheffield... I'll take him! Brian Giles perhaps!
CornMaster Apr 10, 2002, 06:49 PM What can I say??
Mondesi is going to have a break out year?!?
Anyone find it odd that I am second in score...but 5th in standings. ;)
Flatlander Fox Apr 10, 2002, 07:00 PM I agree... The system is slightly flawed...
LIKE YOUR NOTION THAT RAUL MONDESI IS GONNA HAVE A BREAK OUT YEAR!
NOW can I talk Sheffield for Giles?:D
CornMaster Apr 10, 2002, 08:46 PM Go away Fox......
Mondesi plays for Toronto, and is going to have a great year.
That's why I wanted him.
So bite me. ;)
You can't have Sheffield.
Get over it. ;)
Flatlander Fox Apr 11, 2002, 06:39 AM Pinky! Where are you man!
Mondesi is garbage! The Pirates are gonna have a great year, and Giles is their best player!!!
Think about it!!!:D
*going away now*
PinkyGen Apr 12, 2002, 03:29 PM Heh, Fox, and all of you need to read the trade board, or those e-mails from the commish. I traded Mondesi for Sheffield three days ago, and the trade just took affect yesterday. :p Sheffield is now in the lineup, though Corn is correct in that Mondesi is outscoring him, for now. But then again, it's still April.
Speaking of the tyrant of maize, not even Johnson was enough to save his Nibblets from a solid drubbing by my mighty Pinksters, (188-148). Schilling didn't even pitch, he starts tonight against the Rockies and the Levis Soldiers. I have made other alterations from the free agency pool and bench rotations, expect my team in all it's glory for this game.
Ah, it shall be good when these rankings are updated, and you see me coronated on the number one position. :king:
PS Can we make this a sticky thread, as sometimes its hard to find, yet a place where we can boast of our exploits, and launch negotiations without using the stupid sandbox forum?
CornMaster Apr 12, 2002, 05:10 PM WHY!!!!
WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was told I would win it all with my dream team. And here I am.....0-2. :(
But there are still 48 games to play...I will bounce back!
I've shuffled around a little, picked up some new players.....it will all turn around. :D
And yes...we should make this sticky.
Flatlander Fox Apr 12, 2002, 05:31 PM Or we can just keep it active...:)
Who are the other players anyway AoA? Anybody we know?
P.S. I continue to win games without 2 starters. Eat your hearts out!:D
CornMaster Apr 12, 2002, 06:16 PM Originally posted by Flatlander Fox

Well..you will lose this game. :D
Yes...LOSE!!!!
Flatlander Fox Apr 12, 2002, 06:59 PM Doubtful, as the unit of Bigness will not be pitching for a few days.
Meanwhile, A-Rod will be getting hot, AND Berkman will be smacking it around like nobody's business.
The only shame is that I have no Cardinals on my team:(.
Alcibiaties of Athenae Apr 12, 2002, 08:04 PM The losers are a guy from another board, and Unkown Soldier is one of the teams, the others I don't know.
Thread is stuck. ;)
Ren Apr 12, 2002, 09:23 PM I'm there, watching over my little Townsville Stealths running around, getting beaten :( I will try to take a more active role im my team's management now ;)
Alcibiaties of Athenae Apr 13, 2002, 01:13 PM Magnus has a team also, I forgot! :crazyeye:
Flatlander Fox Apr 13, 2002, 05:24 PM Thanks, I was trying to figure out who the last two were...
P.S. I whipped the HELL outta his Roman Homos team.;)
*Must rub it in after the tractor comment*
CornMaster Apr 13, 2002, 07:08 PM WHY WHY WHY!!!!
WHY am I in 7th!!!
I'd like to see another 0-2 team with a score like mine!!! :)
And I'm behind in my 3rd game too!!! DAMN IT!!!!
Ahhh...I hate Fantasy Baseball. :p
Ren Apr 13, 2002, 07:41 PM Losing in your 3rd game, eh?
....
:o
....
...thinks...
....
That means I must be winning
Flatlander Fox Apr 13, 2002, 09:24 PM At the risk of sounding arrogant:
I am beating the hell outta the Nibblets!:D
P.S.: On paper Corn, you have a GREAT team. How did you get ALL of those guys? Besides the Sheffield robbery that is.:D
Magnus Apr 13, 2002, 11:06 PM Hey whatever my players do in the privacy of their clubhouse is their business... I don't know who had the bath-houses installed... really!

Alcibiaties of Athenae Apr 14, 2002, 11:15 AM Well, the Slackers knocked off the Durham Losers, and now we are leading vs the Townsville Stealths!
The Slackers also add the Japanese phenom Kazuhisa Ishii, who is 2-0 and throws smoke!
Can't understand why the Niblets keep losing, must have a rotten manager! :p

Come on Nibblets....bring it home!!
CornMaster Apr 14, 2002, 09:15 PM I tell you one thing....if we blow this games....CEO, GM, and coach "Thomas Hawkins" is going to step down.
We have "CornMaster" lined up to take his place. ;)
Alcibiaties of Athenae Apr 14, 2002, 10:05 PM He can't be any worse then the other guy! :p
Ren Apr 15, 2002, 03:15 AM :p Or better :p
J/k, I can't really talk
PinkyGen Apr 15, 2002, 06:42 AM Alas, poor corn herder, this shall not be your lucky game, as my intelligence indicates the lack of Big Unit shall leave you 16 points short of victory. I really was cheering for you, as it appears the Flatlanders are my main competetion now. However, as of yet, they are unable to knock me off the leaderboard (I had the fortunate crossing of the stars of all my starters starting, though I was a little silly and benched one  )
Ah, now it is time for my men to face the Roman Bathhouse homosexuals. Rest assured, we have seperate showerooms, if your men wish to play dirty and traumatize my team. :)
PS. Thoughts to self. Hmmm, last in hitting. This will not do, not do at all. But who can I weasel hitters from, just who? ;)
Flatlander Fox Apr 15, 2002, 07:00 AM Hmmmm...
YOU TRADED A GOOD HITTER AWAY!!!
Serves you right.:D
*walks off grumbling*
Edit: Decided to put this one here:
NIBBLETS LOSE! FLATLANDERS PREVAIL OVER DREAM TEAM!!!:D
Alcibiaties of Athenae Apr 15, 2002, 12:10 PM It seems, Corn tells me, that some of you don't realize you only get a set number of starts out of each postion.
When these run out, you won't get points from that spot anymore.
A few of you are using four relievers and three starters, you will exhauste your relievers by game #30 (this happened last year to some people in another league).
This game works best with 5 starters and 2 relivers, otherwise, be prepared to lose heavy in the second half.
I have a trade offer for Unkown, I'm offering Eric milton, one of the three best Left-handers in the AL for Rivera of the Yankees.
Milton is good for 16+ wins and tons of strikeouts, but I need a closer.
You have 4 of them, all good, in fact Benitez is the best Fantasy closer.
If you don't like Milton, I'm willing to trade a different starter, I have starters to spare, you have relivers to spare, it's a good deal for both of us.
CornMaster Apr 15, 2002, 12:51 PM I LOST AGAIN!

I traded a good hitter for another good hitter, and the other good hitter peformed consistently well last year as well.
Hmmm, AoA's post is quite disturbing. So whenever my reliever makes an appearance, I lose points for him. But if I take them out, I can't survive my hitters.
Damm, the 3-0 is in danger.
Alcibiaties of Athenae Apr 15, 2002, 07:55 PM It's the game's mechinics, Pinky.
I winning start is worth 27-66 points, depending on runs and strikouts, but saves only get you 12-14 points.
One Randy Johnson 12k shutout is worth more then 4 saves, the game is built around starters, so you must have balence.
You might go 25-0, and then go 0-25 using 4 relievers and only 3 starters, I have seen similar stuff with sandbox.
Kefka Apr 15, 2002, 10:12 PM Dang Im to late
PinkyGen Apr 15, 2002, 11:24 PM Well, I now have a surplus of relievers. These guys are good, but I now doubt I will need all five. I am willing to trade one for a hitter, I am sure some team out there would be interested. :)
CornMaster Apr 16, 2002, 10:58 AM I don't feel too bad now...Sheifield has had two bad games.
0-6 in the last.
Of course..Mondesi didn't play....

2. Nebraska Flatlanders: Record 3-0. W3 streak. 490 Fantasy Points.
3. Durham Maximum Losers: Record 2-1. L1 streak. 523 Fantasy points.

7. CornEmpire Nibblets. Record 0-3. L3 streak. 495 fantasy points
8. Townsville Stealths. Record 0-3. L3 streak. 405 fantasy points.
Once again, relievers for starters or preferably hitters anyone?
Alcibiaties of Athenae Apr 16, 2002, 09:08 PM I have starters to spare, Pinky.
I made an offer to Unknown soldier, but he has yet to get back to me.
If that doesn't work out I'm sure we can make a deal, I can't offer hitting, but I have a surplus of starters.
Alcibiaties of Athenae Apr 18, 2002, 09:17 PM Slackers and Nibblets anouce a trade,
Nibblets send C Ivan Rodriguez and 2B Jeff Kent to Slackers for P Livian Hernandez.
The Pinksters have also agreed to send RP Rob Nen to the Slackers for SP AJ Burnett.
PinkyGen Apr 19, 2002, 01:10 PM Pinksters are 4-0. :D In one of my lowest scoring games ever, I believe the total was around 130 something offensive points for me. Anyone else would have beaten me.
Hopefully my changes will cause some affect. Two new starters have been added to the lineup, new power hitters have been brought in, and I believe I seriously cut back on my relievers. Still, my hitters need to get out of their slumps.

I told you things were going to change. :)
I currently lead the Legions 232-134
Go Nibblets!
PinkyGen Apr 22, 2002, 05:31 PM DEFEAT!! No offense to the Stealths, but I just lost to the worst team in the league. :( Despite great play by my #1 reliever Guardado, my three starting pitchers all lost their games, and major players like Boone have entered a slump.
Very well, this shall be a wakeup sign. Now, I PinkyGen, have prepared a full assault against my main adversary for league supremacy, the Nebraska Flatlanders.
We shall not lose easily, as my team will be back in form. Players in slumps have been benched to new one's on streaks. My mighty outfield is beggining to produce, and the catchers are strong. And Finally, I prepare my main guns! In previous games, due to rotation difficulties, I had trouble getting enough starters to count. But now, you face my five best starters, Schilling, Sabathia, Hudson, Lieber, and Padilla, all of whom will play. Guardado is taking a little rest, but two other ace relievers, Isrinhaugen and Mesa are in.
This shall not happen again, we shall prevail! Resistance is futile! :borg:
Alcibiaties of Athenae Apr 22, 2002, 06:01 PM I lost also, so I think the whole league has at least one win at this point. ;)

CornMaster Apr 24, 2002, 05:47 PM Well..it's offical.
The Nibblets CRUSHED the Legions by over 100 points!!!
Go Nibblets!!!
And now my team has a total score of 964.
You will notice that although I'm in 5th place, my dream team has scored the most points of all the other teams in the league. I think the Umpires are biased. ;)

No...losing the battles...winning the war. :)
PinkyGen Apr 24, 2002, 09:55 PM The clash of the top two teams in the league, the Nebraska Flatlanders and the recently slumping Pinksters enters its 3rd night. Current score is 98-62, but I just started CC Sabathia, who got clobbered the Sox and will most likely cost me points. This is going to be a close one.
CornMaster Apr 26, 2002, 04:26 PM Well...after a slow start to the game, the Nibblets were down 34-9 after the first game. :(
However, a strong rebound and we have now won our 3rd straight. With the most points in the league, only playing .500 baseball.
Regardless, I'm proud of my Nibblets. They have done very well after the firing of CEO, GM, and Coach Thomas Hawkins. :)

PinkyGen Apr 26, 2002, 05:19 PM Pinksters rebound to victory! :)
After an abysmal two low scoring games, and the first defeat in franchise history, the Pinksters rebounded to defeat one of the top teams in the league, the accursed Nebraska team. ;) Strong output from most of the pitchers (except for Sabathia) and the arising of actual hitting power takes the credit.
I do have two question for AoA about the mechanics about this.
1. How many games are there in a regular baseball teams year?
2. Are the limits only for a player at a position, or the number of games that position has been filled. I ask this because I have noticed I drastically cut back on relievers, but it seems as though I've already taken a large chunk of the relievers spots? What is a good average for positions at starter and reliever?
CornMaster Apr 26, 2002, 06:48 PM I can answer that.
There are 152 baseball games a year. Broken down into 50 fantasy games of 3 days each.
The limits are per position. Not person.
And 5 starters and 2 relievers is a good combo. A 4/3 combo will exuast your relievers about 5-10 fantasy too short.
(I've already asked those questions. ;)
PinkyGen Apr 26, 2002, 08:36 PM So there is no reason not to start your two best relievers, and your five best starters (assuming they are all going to play in real life). Also, wouldn't this mean certain positions might require a break?
Hmm, take Kim out, put Guardada back in time. ;) Of course, considering how I extended things, I might to go with one reliever for a while :)
Alcibiaties of Athenae Apr 27, 2002, 09:05 AM Close Corn, but there are 162 games in a ML season.
Pinky, you should have no problem playing your best 5 starters and best 2 releavers every time.
You have to resist the urge to flip starters so that you always have some going, that will burn them out and you won't get points.
My pitching has been bad this week, 2 straight losses. :(
Have to bouce back! ;)
Magnus Apr 27, 2002, 02:28 PM Well well well
my 'reliever' Derek Lowe just pitched a wicked googlie -errr umm I mean Complete game no hitter! A fine pick up he turned out to be. Ahhh revenge on the Flatlanders is mine! :p

Uh oh, that's what I've been doing for all these games. Hmm, I'm going to need to leave empty spaces soon.
CornMaster Apr 29, 2002, 01:34 PM Bad news Nibblets fans.
We have been upset by the CFC Slackers. 137-130
We have fallen to 5th in the standings and our next games is against the Durham Maximum Losers. Who defeated us in our first game.
Well, don't fret....we are going to get some payback!! You will also notice that I have about 130 points more than then next person. ;)

PinkyGen Apr 29, 2002, 02:01 PM Ahh, good news for the Pinksters fans. An overwhelming defeat of the Durham Maxville Losers, who shall head off to the Nibblets after being crushed 185-72. Special Game awards go of course to Schilling and Hudson, but also surprisingly to Byung-Hyun Kim (28, you might remember his World Series peformance) and our first real slugger, Todd Helton (21).
Special cons to Chipper Jones and Miguel Tejada (15) and newly acquired Bautista (13).
However, with the two best starters now exhausted, we now move to CFC Slackers, the first team we ever played, and the first of our many victories. :p
Oh yeah, Pinksters now 2 games in first. :D

PinkyGen May 03, 2002, 10:40 PM A friendly bump to announce another Pinkster victory, beating the Slackers 196-169. Special thanks to Corie Koskie, Bret Boone, Todd Helton, Bautista, and pitchers Padilla, Burnett, and Kim.
Record is 7-1, first in league by two games. :D
PinkyGen May 06, 2002, 09:15 AM I'm I the only one still into this? Well, maybe because i keep on winning. :)
Solid beating of the Nibblets the best 3-6 team in the league, sorry Corn. ;) Next up the Levis soldiers.
Flatlander Fox May 06, 2002, 09:24 AM I am living on borrowed time, as Lance Berkman and Alex Rodriguez keep me afloat.
Frank Thomas isn't hurting me either:D.
But I am only 1 line deep right now. Not good at all.
Alcibiaties of Athenae May 06, 2002, 09:26 AM I defeated the Losers this game, so I'm still in the hunt. ;)
PinkyGen May 10, 2002, 10:21 AM Ah Pinksters win again. I believe the record is now 8-1? ;)
I shall give the rest of you hope, I am looking for 3rd basemen or an outfielder does anyone have any spares?
PinkyGen May 14, 2002, 09:35 AM Padilla pitches a two hitter in Phillie, Pinksters take a 10-1 record, 3 games in first place. :)
edited to correct record.
Flatlander Fox May 14, 2002, 09:51 AM The Flatlanders continue to chase the Pinkos, relying on heart and a thin lineup to make due.
Our pitching sucks though, so we have to make a move soon.
Magnus May 17, 2002, 03:36 PM The Roman Legions beat the Cornmaster team!
Now if we can just do the 'trifecta' and win just one vs. those Flatlanderhuskers and the Pinkies as well.;)

Bah, goodluck in your attempts to catch up. We shall see what happens this weekend. I at least expect Schillinfg, Lieber, and other's to pitch, and my hitting has never been hotter. And I continue to rest one catcher. :P Also, I must thank AoA for trading me Burnett a few weeks ago. If only his stupid manager would stop making him throw so many pitchers.
Of course, another victory earned this week, record is 11-1, 4 games ahead of the Flatlanders, the nearest competition. In celebration, I took the entire clubhouse out to  (well not really, but this does summarize my current state).
Despite this, I am still looking for one more pitcher, as both Sabathia and possibly Hudson are on a losing streak. I have Kim, Isrhaugen, Guardado, and Mesa as possible relievers on the table.
Alcibiaties of Athenae May 18, 2002, 09:10 AM Broke my losing streak, but Pinky has a giant lead.
It was a good trade for both of us, Pinky, Nen has been giving me a lot of savs, and I had 7 good starters, I didn't need Burnet.
Next year we will do a slow live draft, some of the teams are a bit out of balence this year. ;)
Alcibiaties of Athenae May 20, 2002, 10:30 AM Ha ha, I won again, and it looks like the Pinksters finally lost!
The race is on! :goodjob:
PinkyGen May 20, 2002, 10:55 AM We shall return. Problem was not many save oppurtinities for my relievers (at least I didn't start Guardado when Twins were facing teams). Oh, and Hudson and Lieber blew it. Young Burnett and Padilla now more reliable than those guys, and they should be starting.
Sigh, record a dismal 11-2. ;)
Alcibiaties of Athenae Jun 01, 2002, 09:41 AM Damn, the losers kicked my but!
But I'm winning this game so far, no thanks to Milton, the bum got lit up for -11. :(

PinkyGen Jun 27, 2002, 02:30 PM Today my emotions were cruelly torn while listening to my home town Reds against the Cubs. The Reds were down 3-1 at top of the 9th. This made me sad. Then I realized that Lieber was pitching for a complete game, which would almost guarantee a win in my game this week. So now I was torn, who was I to root for?
In the end Lieber was taken out after the first two hitters got on base, and the Relief Pitcher allowed those two to score. Lieber loses the win, game goes to extra innings. Red's better win, make Lieber's no decision worth it for me.

CornMaster Jul 14, 2002, 08:29 PM PS. I broke the Slackers winning streak. ;)
Alcibiaties of Athenae Jul 15, 2002, 08:26 AM Yep, after an epic game, in which both sides broke 200 points, the Slackers fell to the Nibblets.
This, combined with the pasting the Pinksters handed the Losers (278 points! ), drops me out of first.
Oh well, on to the rematch with Pinky! :D
CornMaster Jul 15, 2002, 08:49 PM Nibblets are a .500 team again! :D
Also...the Nibblets are just 4 out of first....AND are the first team over 5000 points. :) Go NIBBLETS!!!

gonzo_for_civ Jul 15, 2002, 11:17 PM Wow! I just stumbled on to this thread, really interesting actually! I've never understood fantasy baseball until now. Perhaps I will join you guys next season. Now, I'll make a prediction:
At the end of the season:
1st: Nibblets! :)
2nd: Slackers
3rd: Pinksters
4th: Flatlanders
5th: Losers
6th: Soldiers
7th: Legions
8th: Stealths
No need to play the rest of the season. That's how it'll end. :D
This prediction brought to you by my broken left big toe.
Alcibiaties of Athenae Jul 16, 2002, 01:47 AM Well, I don't think so! :p
Go SLACKERS!
PinkyGen Jul 16, 2002, 02:35 PM You insult me Gonzo, no clubhouse seats for you. ;)
Oh and Corn, Mondesi is no longer playing for a Canadian team, and if I remember watching the news this weekend, he also ran into a wall. :D
Flatlander Fox Jul 16, 2002, 03:23 PM Mondesi is garbage.
Can't hit for average, can't play defense (Has a strong arm though), and has a lousy attitude that I attribute to his knowledge that he is garbage.
gonzo_for_civ Jul 16, 2002, 09:22 PM Hmmm.... Slackers won't win. Mediocre hitting won't carry you much longer. This little win trend got you up there and you aren't going to disappear, but you aren't going to finish first either. :D
Pinksters are in the same category but their hitting and pitching are worse than the slackers.
Flatlanders have no pitching. Their hitters will not be able to carry this team to a 1st.
Losers are in the same boat with the pinksters and slackers but both categories are worse then both the pinks and the slackers.
The soldiers have a good team but there players are all cooled off now. The second half will not exceed the first.
Legions have the worst hitting and the pitching doesn't help out much either.
As for the stealth: The 4th best hitting is not enough to carry their AWFUL pitching.
The nibblets are just great. 2nd in hitting, 4th in pitching :)
Alcibiaties of Athenae Jul 17, 2002, 03:43 AM Look at the points son.
My hitting isn't first, but it's WINS that matter.
And the first rule of fantasy baseball, just like the real thing is, PITCHING wins, not hitting, and I have plenty O pitching. :p
CornMaster Jul 17, 2002, 08:05 AM But AoA....Chicks dig the long ball.
Your team will fold because fans don't like your style of baseball. ;)
But gonzo is wise.....he puts me in first. :D
PinkyGen Jul 17, 2002, 10:50 AM Agree with AoA, my hitting has actually improved, but it's my pitchers who are deciding the games.
Oh and rule 2, Corn just has bad luck. :D
gonzo_for_civ Jul 17, 2002, 12:31 PM Oh and rule 2, Corn just has bad luck.
I beg to differ, you all *had* good luck. Luck's out. There's no stopping Corn!
GO NIBBLETS!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
Flatlander Fox Jul 17, 2002, 04:50 PM Tell that pitching crap to the Braves AoA...
Look how many titles they have...
Once I get my pitching tweaked enough, the title will be mine.
Can ANYONE else please agree with me that Mondesi is GARBAGE?
Please?
gonzo_for_civ Jul 17, 2002, 06:22 PM Fine, Mondesi is CRAP!! And garbage!
Nibblets, however, are great! If you guys don't make trades, the nibblets will win.
Alcibiaties of Athenae Jul 18, 2002, 07:57 AM I tell it to the Yankees FF, 4 titles in 6 years based on pitching, not hitting.
Magnus Jul 18, 2002, 06:43 PM Somehow I ended up with a damn Yankee on my team! (Jeff Weaver) and I need to unload him as an exorcism. I am looking for a good reliever in exchange.
Roman Legions
gonzo_for_civ Jul 18, 2002, 09:50 PM Hey guys how about a score update here. I am sure a couple of 3 game series have passed by now!
gonzo_for_civ Jul 18, 2002, 11:51 PM Ahhh... To support my theories about the rankings here are some stats:
Last 14 games:
Nibblets 10-4
Slackers 10-4
Pinksters 7-7
Losers 7-7
Flatlanders 6-8
Soldiers 6-8
Stealths 5-9
Legions 5-9
There won't even be competition once AoA's luck runs out :D
Alcibiaties of Athenae Jul 19, 2002, 02:48 AM Tain't luck son, it's skill.
Corn got handed a team loaded with allstars and still isn't in first, I got a bunch of scrubbs and made trades and free agent signings.
Also bumped off Pinky again, even though I trailed by 61 points going into yesterday. ;)
Somebody released Paul Byrd, I snapped him up, a 13 game winner, and he gave me a complete game for my trouble.
Corn knocked off the losers in a high scoring game, Flatlander flatened Magnus, and the Stealths beat the Soldiers by 3.

That, of course, makes me(a d-bax fan) extremely joyful :D :D :D :D :D :D
Nibblet's rock!!!!!!!
AoA loves pitching just because his team can't hit!!
Flatlander Fox Jul 20, 2002, 12:01 PM LOL...
True, I have the hitting. Magnus, I NEED that Yankee!!!
We'll talk about a possible trade when I see you online again.

Don't know much about baseball, eh Gonzo? :p
gonzo_for_civ Jul 21, 2002, 04:03 PM Wrong again, but at least your consistant.
Ok, that was funny :D
Slackers are fifth in batting, look at the standings Corn posted.
So what you're saying is that the slackers are in the lower half of the league in hitting. 5th out of 50 ain't bad but 5th out of 8 just sucks!
gonzo_for_civ Jul 22, 2002, 02:50 AM Ok, new development. Ren has handed over control of the stealths to me. I'll see if I can't put forth a win or two :) Watch out legions!!! Actually, I'll probably trade away a good hitter or two to a team who'd be willing to part with a pitcher or two.
EDIT: he gave me his password but now I need his e-mail address before I can log on! :D Oops!
Alcibiaties of Athenae Jul 22, 2002, 03:41 AM Another win, ripped up the Losers 288-145, and Corny beat the Pinksters 124-90, so I'm all alone in first place. ;)
Magnus Jul 22, 2002, 08:20 AM Luckily we just beat the Stealths and won't have to play them again for a while. I offered Weaver to the Huskers for Wagner.
CornMaster Jul 22, 2002, 09:23 AM What a pitiful game for me....but a win is a win. :D
gonzo_for_civ Jul 22, 2002, 12:15 PM OOohhh!!! Just wait!! As soon as ren get's me the e-mail address he used I'm gonna..........last place  Oh my!!! :D
I'm gonna double the win total by the end of the season.
Alcibiaties of Athenae Jul 22, 2002, 12:19 PM Twice nothing is still nothing. :p
Actually, good luck with it. ;)
gonzo_for_civ Jul 22, 2002, 12:58 PM Thanks AoA. Actually, I'm going to need some advice as soon as I assess the situation as soon as I can get logged in. As I said before if anyone needs a little hitting I've noticed my(ren's) team really needs some pitching. But, I dont knw much about that as I haven't seen the team yet.

WHAT?!?!?!? The guy throws up a 120 and you STILL HAVEN'T CAUGHT HIM!!!!!!
Just kidding. But Corn is rolling now.
Oh yeah, are we going to do fantasy football? Corn said he'd only play if it was canadian football league :p
EDIT: I got my team!! Ok, here's the deal, I had a strong first round against the slackers and I'm on pace for aobut 230 points this round :D
The nibblets will lose next game. (against the greatest team, no not you aoa)
AND: Scott Rolen and Ricky Guitierrez are both available for trade if someone will offer me some pitchers!!!!!!!!
Oh yeah, I just claimed Juan Acevedo. A solid reliever with a 2.70 ERA. He'll help out. Now I have 3 relievers. I am still looking for 1 more good starter for the above mentioned players.
EDIT 3: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! YES YES YES YES YES YES YES!!! I no longer need any pitcher although I may consider it if the pitcher is really good!!!
I just got Elmer Dessends, how on earth is this guy available. HES THIRD IN NL ERA!!!!!! AND A STARTER!!!!!!!
Boo yah!!
Corny, I can't wait to face your nibblets!!!!
EDIT 4: I just got rid of 1 pitcher with an ERA over 9 and a pitcher who had an ERA over 6 and got a pitcher with a 3.5 ERA and I'm looking for 1 more good starter. I can see why the pitching was bad on this team
Look for MAJOR improvements starting in the corny series, ESPECIALLY from my pitching. I've made about 6 or 7 free agency moves tonight already and im gonan make a couple more.
EDIT 5: Just dropped 2 more 4+ ERA pitchers and got joel pinero and am going to go get another. Does anybody want roger clemens?
EDIT 6: Just proposed a trade w/corn. Roger clemens and barry bonds for kip wells. Crazy you say, but I need help now and corn is going to want those guys for a run at 1st place. I hate yankees and barry bonds also. I am now going to grab some more pitchers.
EDIT 7: Canceled above trade and made a new trade to the pinksters. They get Juan gonzales whos batting .292 and Roger clemens, the K king chasing win 300 and I get schilling. Sound fair.
gonzo_for_civ Jul 24, 2002, 01:27 AM New post because the old one was way too cluttered.
I just acquired another pitcher, should be pretty set if pinkygen accepts my trade offer. Canceled the old one as it was a little to one sided for my(and AoA's liking ;)). I made a new trade to pinky where I get schilling and pinky gets clemens and juan gonzales whom I don't need. If anyone needs an OF offer me a trade this is the group I got:
Sammy Sosa, ChC
Bobby Abreu, Phi
Manny Ramirez, Bos
Shannon Stewart,
Barry Bonds, SF
Juan Gonzalez, Tex*
* Under trade consideration
Alcibiaties of Athenae Jul 24, 2002, 01:32 AM That trade will be canceled by the league, namely me, as commish.
Make FAIR deals or get out of the league.
gonzo_for_civ Jul 24, 2002, 01:34 AM DOn't worry AoA i canceled it before that post :D
I decided it was WAY TOO one sided so I made a new trade to pinky that is way more fair. DIdn't realize how much of an asset bonds was although he and clemens are injured and clemens' ERA is 4+.
Just made my last acquisition. I got Kurk Reuter and put alex gonzales on waivers. I should be set. I think I have 9 pitchers total now as compared to the 7(maybe 8) I had before. These are all good pitchers, all my starters have sub 4 ERAs and winning records I believe.
Watch out, here I come!
Alcibiaties of Athenae Jul 24, 2002, 01:48 AM Gonzo, Corn had the best team from the start, I had amoung the worst, look at the draft recap.
If you want to make deals, make them fair, any deals that are throw aways just to beat me I will not allow, but if they are fair, then that's fine.
We have been doing this since May, and I'm very proud I made my team good enough to compete, but if you propose to ruin the league at this point, surrender your password, I will not have this "gang up on the leader" nonsense, whether I was the leader or not.
I trailed for the first two months, it took a lot to get in first, and I won't see it thrown away just because you think it's funny.
I take my free time VERY seriously, if you ruin this league, don't expect to be asked into any other league activities.
gonzo_for_civ Jul 24, 2002, 01:52 AM Don't worry AoA. It was more of a spur of the moment insanity thing. I canceled it before even realizing how unfair it was to you just because it was unfair to me.. :)
Also, are we going to do fantasy football??
Oh yeah, sorry corn :p
EDIT: WAIT!! I'm playing you AoA! I'm not supposed to be nice!! ;)
I can't believe ren didn't have manny ramirez starting!!! :( And you are lucky you got nomar AoA :(
Alcibiaties of Athenae Jul 24, 2002, 02:27 AM I have him (Nomar) off wavers, look at the selected players in the draft.

I'm not complaing mind you, but it is odd!
gonzo_for_civ Jul 26, 2002, 01:59 PM DAMN!!!!! I thought I had won :(
But that's ok because corn is going down!!!
Im happy and sad now. I am a d-bax fan who just got done watching a 12-0 bax victory following yesterday's 10-0 victory. Unfortunately, johnson was starting for corn and he had 8Ks, 7IP, the win, 0ER, 1BB, 1HBP, 4H. :(:)
I'm dead!
Flatlander Fox Jul 27, 2002, 07:21 PM I lost a TIEBREAKER to the losers...:(:(:(
I missed out on the early waiver wire stuff, as I was in the field alot...
My team is fairly awful on the pitching side of the house, but my hitting is quite good...
I am watching the trades a bit closer now, ever since Mondesi got traded for Sheffield. ;)
But Bonds and Clemens for Kip Wells IS insane...
I have pitching (Kerry Wood rides my bench) so let me know if you want to give someone up...
CornMaster Jul 27, 2002, 09:50 PM Mondesi got me 13 points yesterday. 1 less then the entire team I'm facing. :)
So...eat that.
gonzo_for_civ Jul 27, 2002, 10:37 PM Hey! That's 6 less than my 19. And 3 of my pitchers won today and I think 2 got no decisions. You had a no decision and a loss :-p
EDIT: I am now leading Corn by 14 points after trailing by about 90 heading into today.
HAHAHAHAHA!!!! he has 1 starter left to start. I have been through my rotation. My hitters are warmed up from an awful day yesterday and ready to wreak some havoc. Not even Randy Johnson's 33 points for Corn coul keep the lead. I know I'm overly bragging considering I haven't won yet and really he has a good chance......but it's fun to comeback by 100 points :D
If Kip Wells loses or the pirates lose, this is my series, as mike williams is one of his relievers and won't pitch in a loss(unless he blows the save and loses it of course)
CornMaster Jul 28, 2002, 09:44 AM OH MY GOD!!!
I lost 12 points yesterday!!!
You didn't come back 100 ppints...I lost 15 points.
AGAGAGAGAGAGHAHAHAGAGAHAHAG~!!!!!!!
Ohhh...that REALLY sucks!!!!
gonzo_for_civ Jul 28, 2002, 07:51 PM Well, this'll be interesting. both sasaki and hoffman lost for me today :(
But mike williams didn't pitch for you and your starter lost! :D
Hitters will decide this outcome.
Alcibiaties of Athenae Jul 29, 2002, 03:50 AM Well, even though I forgot to play Colon, I still knocked over FF.
I ended up with Clemens, off waivers, also got Sosa for Ortiz and traded Adam Dunn for Burle of the Losers squad.
Pinky won easily, and I think Corn also won a close one, so the top of the list remains constant.
gonzo_for_civ Jul 29, 2002, 11:23 AM I haven't been hard to beat, scoring about 110 points per game :(

Apollo Jul 29, 2002, 02:41 PM Wow, I've been reading this thread all along and I just wanted to say it's even better than the afternoon soap operas. :D
Also, did anybody else notice that :nya: is now leading :mwaha: by 21 points?
BTW, who, if anybody, has Jamie Moyer? He's the best pitcher that nobody notices.
Alcibiaties of Athenae Jul 30, 2002, 09:57 AM BTW Corny, who leads in total points now?
:yeah:
gonzo_for_civ Jul 31, 2002, 01:24 AM First I'd like to say thank you to apollo :D
Second, I got some ABSOLUTE GEMS from my pitchers today!!!!!!! I think they'll give me at least 70-80 points. Every pitcher who pitched for me today won and hoffman got a save.
I might finally win!!!!!!!!
Oh BTW, I do expect some beer from both corny and aoa if I somehow knock off pinky!
Alcibiaties of Athenae Jul 31, 2002, 11:24 AM I would like some top closers, I will offer TOP starters for top closers.
If you have a closer who's good, I'm interested.
gonzo_for_civ Jul 31, 2002, 04:36 PM Sorry AOA, I got to hold on to the only 2 closers I got.
Speaking of which, Hoffman saved another one!!!!!!!!! A perfect 11th with 1 strikeout will give me 14 more points!!!!! YES!!!!
Oh yeah, pinky made a mistake in starting schilling as he doesn't start until tomorrow, which is after this three day series.
I will give up the 5th ranked catcher for a good starting pitcher or infielder.
CornMaster Aug 01, 2002, 08:00 AM Nibblets win again. :)
9 in a row!!!
Alcibiaties of Athenae Aug 01, 2002, 09:02 AM Guys, thursday counts in the games, they end friday morning.
Nobody needs starting pitching?
I'm willing to trade Ishii, and I'll go better for better closers.
Magnus Aug 01, 2002, 11:05 AM I have Eric Gagne and Billy Wagner, but I will need them in my upcoming series against you! :D (after all I have to stay ahead of Gonzo's team...;))
gonzo_for_civ Aug 01, 2002, 02:31 PM Damn! Thursday counts too?!?!?!
Oh well, I have about an 80 point lead and still have 3 starters left as well, maybe 2. So, barring something miraculous I will still win.
Oh yeah, each one of my pitchers has gotten me more than 25 points!!!!
Flatlander Fox Aug 01, 2002, 06:06 PM I have Jamie, and he's my ace...
But you haven't seen the rest of my rotation...:(
Alcibiaties of Athenae Aug 01, 2002, 06:35 PM Like I said, I'll give starters for closers, I have two excellent closers, Nen and Smoltz, but I want two more, I'll offer Milton, Nomo or Ishii for good ones.
If anybody is interested, let me know, starting is what scores the big points, I just need more balence.
gonzo_for_civ Aug 01, 2002, 07:59 PM YES!!! Schilling lost today! He'll still be good for around 15-20 points but better than the 30+ he would've gotten!!!! I'm gonna win!!!
Dessends gave up a run in 4 innings and left with a no decision and a strained groin. It's a good thing I have 11(maybe 10 or 12) pitchers. Russ ortiz lost by giving up 2 runs thru 8 innings with 6 strikeouts which'll give me some good points. The pitcher that beat ortiz was randy wolf!! He got the win and only gave up 1 un in 7 innings I think with some strikeouts.
Wrap up this series(:santa: )...It's mine!!! :D :D :D :D
:yeah: [dance] :bday: [party]
gonzo_for_civ Aug 02, 2002, 02:06 AM I DID IT!! I DID IT!! I DID IT!!! I downed pinky 220+ to 180+
As long as there are no more major changes(errors) I win. That is despite 52 points from Aj Burnett!
Pinky made a run, but I won!!!
Hows about some beer AoA, Corn.!!!
Alcibiaties of Athenae Aug 02, 2002, 10:22 AM Another Slacker win, I see no takers on a trade, I signed some free agent closers.
My offer stays open, but 12 days is the trade deadline, after that no more league trades.
gonzo_for_civ Aug 02, 2002, 08:04 PM Woohooo! I got the third highest overall score this series!!
Chalk up a big win for the stealths.
One more win and I have a chance to overtake the legions, with whom I am tied right now in record.
CornMaster Aug 02, 2002, 09:03 PM Corn Wins. :)
(Does a little Jig)
Anyway.....CANADIAN POWER!!!
:D
9 game winning streak....to the Moon!!!!

Alcibiaties of Athenae Aug 05, 2002, 08:49 AM Got smoked this game.
Oh well, still in first. ;)
Magnus Aug 05, 2002, 02:56 PM Yea, I think all the good teams lost!
It was an honor handing the Slackers a rare loss.
Alcibiaties of Athenae Aug 09, 2002, 12:39 PM Knocked off Corny for another win. ;)
Magnus Aug 10, 2002, 06:02 AM I thought I had LOST to Levi's Soldiers, as yesterday morning I saw I was behind by 15 points or so, then I checked later that afternoon and saw I won by like 20! A closer look revealed all his catcher and relief pitcher points were removed - I assume he has reached the maximum amount allowed. Oh, well, we will take it!
And I must say, my team is set up rather nicely to be an effective spoiler... :D
Alcibiaties of Athenae Aug 12, 2002, 05:35 AM Slackers knock off the pinksters. ;)
CornMaster Aug 12, 2002, 05:36 AM I win. :)
Sole place of second. :)
Magnus Aug 12, 2002, 03:22 PM 3 in a row! that's gotta be a record for me - if I get it to 5 AND the players don't strike, I am changing my title thingy to 'Official CFC spoiler' or some such. :p

Update for this game. :)
Another win for the Nibblets gives us sole possession of second over all. :)
Magnus Aug 24, 2002, 05:14 AM And WE (Legions) helped put you there! ;) (by beating the pinksters - thanks to a Shillingesque 59 point start by Jason Schmidt). We are red hot Corn (6 straight) and now we get you! (ironically, the Nibblets were the last team to beat us...) Ahhh the somewhat not quite fulfilling but pretty damn fun role of the spoiler. :goodjob:
gonzo_for_civ Sep 02, 2002, 10:58 PM Finally we are getting some wins down here! We are on a 2 game winning streak and maddux just pitched 8 awesome innings which will help greatly in trying to down the soldiers and move 1 game away from trying to crawl out of this cellar! It's about time my team caught a little fire!

Magnus Sep 07, 2002, 06:33 AM What the hell is up with Sandbox!
I just finished game #44 against Flatlander Fox and my next opponent was supposed to be game #45 against Gonzo For Civ(as it said last night). Today I check and it says I am on Game #48 playing Cornmaster!!!! With all due respect for Gonzo's team, I would not have rested so many of my pitchers if I knew I was going up against Corn!
Anyone know what is going on?
gonzo_for_civ Sep 07, 2002, 06:57 AM I think the page was cached on your computer from the past and it recalled the old page when you viewed it. I haven't noticed any probs and IIRC it said 47 yesterday :)
And no offense taken....we'll see who beats the crap outta who when we face soon :D :D :D :D
3 game win streak baby!
Magnus Sep 07, 2002, 07:35 AM hehe, well Gonzo, we have won 9 of 10, so bring it. :p
I have posted a (low quality, to save space) picture of the site as it looked about 15 minutes ago. Note it says I am 20-23 and have played 44 games (we missed game one - the league started late). Now it says I am on 48. It cannot be a caching problem as I visit the site every day.
Care to show a screenshot of your team's page?
gonzo_for_civ Sep 07, 2002, 07:53 AM Holy Bugged up sanbox batman!
Now it's doing the same thing to me but it wasn't earlier. Notice the sept 20 roster deadline!?!?!?
Someone pressed the wrong button ;)
Magnus Sep 08, 2002, 07:11 AM AND, I am up 124-97 on the Stealths with one more day to play!

Well...I'm screwed-diddly-eewed.
No catcher spots left, no pitchers left. My batters better get on FIRE.
Johnson got me 64 points in his last start...but not enough to win the game. And now....it's going to be even harder with no pitchers.
Well....hopefully we can hold off the Pinksters. And keep second! Cross your fingers for the Nibblets!!
Alcibiaties of Athenae Sep 18, 2002, 08:56 PM Hopefully, next year we will be in time for game one, and everybody can draft their own players, instead of that crummy computer draft.
gonzo_for_civ Sep 19, 2002, 05:57 PM Yeah, that'll be nice AoA! I'll have a nice contending team next year! This has been fun...and hat's off to AoA! :D

Alcibiaties of Athenae Sep 24, 2002, 02:18 PM Well, Corn's latest lost makes it offical, I win the first CFC Fantasy baseball league!
Thanks to everybody for playing!
It's a shame sandbox changed the rules and didn't allow mulitlpe Football teams, but there are other sports.
Flatlander Fox Sep 24, 2002, 02:21 PM I am officially the Texas Rangers of CFC... :(
It was fun, and if we do it next year, we'll have to do a LIVE draft!
Alcibiaties of Athenae Sep 24, 2002, 02:22 PM Oh, it will be a live draft next time, this league started to late for me to arrange it.
Sign up for basketball!
Magnus Sep 24, 2002, 06:08 PM Congratulations to the champs - CFC Slackers![dance] :yeah: :goodjob: and their manager Alcibiaties of Athenae!
I climbed out of an 11-22 hole to get to .500 so I am very pleased with my second half performance. I finally started to figure this league out - I do love the idea of playing it head-to-head. :)
See you next year. :D
gonzo_for_civ Sep 24, 2002, 06:12 PM I finished the season on an Excellent note. I didn't get out of the cellar but with the losers(i believe) losing 9 in a row and me going 7-3 I really got close! I only tied for the worst record and with 23 points wouldn't have finished last. I think I did well considering the circumstances I entered with and can't wait for next year!
Alcibiaties of Athenae Oct 01, 2002, 08:41 AM Well, the season is over, so time for this to be unstuck, be back next year for another season of CFC Fantasy Baseball, and thanks for playing! :goodjob:
Magnus Oct 01, 2002, 04:00 PM Yep! That was a lot of fun... a REAL draft next year will be KEEN!
CornMaster Oct 12, 2002, 09:41 AM Yep...that was a great season. Took second after a REALLY bad start. Stupid all-stars. ;)
Anyway...I look forward to kicking your asses next year...and in basketball. :)
