(note it's the Sex Pistols version... ;))

Land- Contys
Geology- Cold, hilly and wet (just like the UK ;))
Civ- England
Diffuculty- Emperor

Variant- We play like 'lambs', ie, no demanding cave in too all demands, no wars, and no other aggression... until we hit democracy (bee-lining for it of course... :p) then Democratic Always War (with war-time mobilization with Nationalism)!!! :smoke: :nya: Note its when we research Demo, not when we switch, so we wanna like build up military for Judgement Day(TM)

Wait, so is it a scenario? If it isn't count me in(but do so at your own risk. My highest level i got to was regent and I lost humiliatingly by conquestin the BCs
im sorry if this counts as bumping an old thread, I've wanted to join an SG for so long!

Mythmonster2, you can always start a SG of your own. You don't have to wait until someone else starts one. About you level, no one will have problems with, do mention at the start your not that experienced, and try to follow advice of the other players. After 2 or 3 SG's you should be a confident emperor player.

Interesting game. Am I correct in my reading that as soon as Democracy is learned, its a switch to Demo, then always war in Democracy? That sounds like fun, hopefully you can get the other civs to declare on you to keep happiness up a bit.

I might be interested in taking on the challenge. Ahh hell, sign me up.

Cyllus, you'll get used to it, prepare for high readings on your sacarsmeter. You get that when you surround yourself with idiots (fine as they may be). Like I loved how the circle of fog around your paintbrush picture rendered ustice to maps of the epoch. The potential part was genuine though.

Jan 10, 2007, 09:52 AM
Cyllus idiots only trait is our humor. When someone throws up a map like yours it gives us a certain sense of pride that there are more of us out there than the public wants to admit.

The youngsters in this thread Ansar, MadV and CVH just shake their head at our nonsense. I don't think they want to be idiots but we're still working on them.

As for the start, I'm glad it's not me. I rarely start strong and also very rarely (zero times) play AW. I like my 6th slot as this will be rolling by then and I can more than likely keep up the pace.

P.S. Anyone ever play an SG or 3 at the same time and forget which one they are replying to? This IS the England to Democracy then Dominate jes? Let me check that, brb.

I suppose(and hope) we're goin on a 48/72 schedule. Anyways here is the legacy of King Mythmonster2 the Great.
2550: Warrior built in London and a spearman is started.
2510 The new warrior goes out scouting and I move the settler to the hill
2470 I found York on the hill. Here is what is revealed by the founding. http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f56/Civfanatic/TheEMPIRE.jpg
Oooo pretty grassland anyways,
2430 Mrs. Viking has finished her mission to build a road on the cow and is sent to the b g for super secret sp- errr, I mean to build a road!(Yeah that's the ticket)
23900 start road on b g. The spearman regiment is ready for action and fortifies in London. We start another curragh.
2310 York has equipped some villagers with stone axes and the protect the city. They then start on a spearman division .
2270 worker finishes road on b g and and starts a mine. Meanwhile back in London that old curragh is done and we start a settler(if anyones wondering, the warrior built on th my first turn and the first curragh are simply exploring, the warrior found a huge mountain range to the north of London)
2190: the new curragh discovers the Japanese on an island south of us. http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f56/Civfanatic/Japs.jpg
(ignore the highlited war option.)They are up wheel+warrior code and we are up mansory+ alphabet.Trade all techs for their techs. Horses are just outside of York's boundaries! Talk to Mongols and they are up Iron working(!), mysticism, and horseback riding. We are up nothing. Abe's equal with us. Scouting warrior spy's with his little eye YELLOW BOUNDARIES across the mountains.
2150 a barb's two turns away from Mrs. Viking. Hide her in York. See more of Mongol lands. http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f56/Civfanatic/Zoom1.jpg
Thus ends, the reign of Mythmonster2 and the beggening of glenmetz

madviking
Jan 14, 2007, 08:12 PM
Be a little wiser about your trades, don't automatically trade something, consider the AI resaling the tech for an inflated price.
Wc- realtivly cheap
Wheel- quite expensive (depending on who you ask)
----
Masonry- expensive
Alphabet- expensive

We might got wheel for just masonry (the less important tech) and some cash. shop it around with khan and lincoln, you might of gotten some crap techs (mysticism, horseback riding, etc.).

I'd say settle SE of the hill SW of York, bring worker and road the pwnys (sorry, i had to do that) and try to assert and pointy stick some stuff.

Note that these costs will diminish when techs are known by some people. You can sell them at enarly that price when they are monopolies, but they can drop to shreds of gold when everybody knows them. Thus the big note on wether you can trade it back right now: if you wait, its price crumbles.

CoolioVonHoolio
Jan 17, 2007, 05:49 PM
2110 bc: begin mining cattle.
2070 bc: finishes writing begins CoL for repub slingshot
2030 bc: assuming the capital is a settlerfactory i continue building another settler.
1990 bc: i think i skipped logging a turn.. oh well, trade germany for mystisim for alphabet
1950 bc: finish spearman in york, start grainary.
1870 bc: builds gangsterville. all it needs is one expansion and it gets sugar and fish. bring luxury tax down a notch to break even.
1830 bc: nothign
1790 bc: builds settler, changes to barracks to let london gain back in pop.
1750 bc: settler moves north end of my set.

Man as dry as this map is I'm surprised there's not tumbleweed flying around.
So, madviking, do you think that I really did anything that reeks of cheiftan?
Worker tasks. How many turns did you use to get the worker from London to York without doing any work? He gets paid a whole gpt every 25 years to do stuff so make him do stuff.

Another question...is the water at York fresh or salt?

madviking
Jan 18, 2007, 05:08 PM
salty, some sort of inlet.

Beorn-eL-Feared
Jan 18, 2007, 05:40 PM
Along with Whomp:
Worker tasks should be as important as your build order in the entry game. You want as an absolute #1 priority to irrigate your food boni, you want to NEVER leave a tile unroaded (some exceptions may apply, but not here), you want the tiles your city works on to be improved, you want to irrigate plains rather than mine non-bonus grasslands (irrigation is faster), you want cities connected and if possible you want to avoid crossing rivers if the tile on the other side is already worked.

This being sais, analysis of what's here: cattle plains near the capital, so you want it irrigated. It would take forever to reach rivers so you lewave it simply roaded, perfect. London will be working whale, cattle + 4 tiles ebfore aqueduct, so you want 4 grasses mined and roaded, not only one.

After that, you'll start roading towards York. This means York should pop a worker first things up: the London one is far and busy.

Next settler from London is going for the river, you need the irrigation. York will build road on its way north and irrigate on its way back down. By that time the London one will have roaded to York and will come back towards London with fresh water.

The 2nd next settler will settle on the hills to make an irrigation canal. Like the hills just S or SW from the forest. And then both York and London can make good 8-turn settler factories, which is the best thing around right now.
Nota Bene: the prevision that you will put a town on a hill warrants skipping the road across it: you actually save worker turns by not roading it since popping a town will "do" the road there.

Right now this plan isn't down the drain, but London will need to produce a worker some time soon for itself

Hope it helped.

Cyllus
Jan 18, 2007, 08:57 PM
Already ahead of you, I'm taking the settler to the river and settling right on it. I only had a chance to look at the save before being called in to work early. We're getting 5 or 6 cities max right where we are. I also think I'm going to trade writing, America and Mongols already have every 1st tier tech and IW/HBR, they'll have researched thier own writing soon enough. Had we researched it before CoL maybe but I doubt it. Now to eat supper and then do the deed.
BTW we don't need a settler factory, there's no place to settle. Even need granaries!? This variant is gonna be interesting...

Cyllus
Jan 18, 2007, 11:02 PM
Preturn: Trade writing to America for IW/HBR and all their 75gs (we have no Iron). Mongols get it for their 50gs. Change London to Settler, will finish when London grows to 5.

IBT nada

1 – 1725 B.C. – Settler toward river, worker toward what is to be Kickapoo to road. Darkwing duck moves and so do the curraghs.
I think we met every civ on this continent and the next continent we should be able to reach, not much room left for it to be.

IBT nada

2 – 1700 B.C. – everything moves. America now knows MM and Philo, how’d they do that? Trade HBR to Japan and Germany for all their g (36 and 35 respectively).

IBT nada

3 – 1675 B.C. – everything moves. Build Embassies everywhere (thumb picture things below for those of you who need to see em) Sumeria is at war with Germany already.

IBT America building Pyramids, Mongols building Oracle

4 – 1650 B.C. – everything moves.

IBT nada

5 – 1625 B.C. – Worker begins Irrigation, Settler moves into position. Sumeria knows Polytheism and he's very snotty about it. Won't take Alha, IW, HBR, and 24 gold for it (not that I'd trade anyway, just checking)

IBT nada

6 – 1600 B.C. – London Settler>Settler (for now), Kickipoo is born starts temple. Explorers do their things.

IBT Japan rudely tells us to get away from his city with our boat. We agree to but dump our waste overboard when he isn’t looking! Chump.

7 – 1575 B.C. - Gangsterville warrior>warrior. Start suicide run with Gary the Curragh

IBT Japanese buiding Collossus

8 – 1525 B.C. – Worker finishes Irrigation, starts next irrigation. *NOTE* how is it all these abbreviations for CIV terms and still not one for a big word like Irrigation!? Gary survives!

IBT Sumeria politely asks us to get out of their water :) , unlike the RUDE Japanese, we kiss him on the cheek, he blushes  , we explain "It's not like that", he sais he knows but I'm not s sure...

9 – 1500 B.C. – Warrior spots Iron in German somethingberg town that seems to be Sumeria’s first target. Settler in London won’t be ready upon growth, change to temple for now, next guy can change this. Gary survives again and reaches new shore! Nothing else happens.

IBT Germany politely sais Darkwing Duck is in German sovreign territory shrug (who knew?) We agree to scram, no kiss this time.

10 – 1475 B.C. – Rage Cage moves into Kickipoo for MP.
Gonna hold it here, lot going on atm.

OK
Gary the Curragh is in view of an Iroquois Warrior, we’re up Writing on them and they have 115 gold. Only one more civ to meet.
Remember London is working on a temple, may want to change that build, your call.
Important The next settler will need to settle on the hill range to get irrigation to London.
Other Settler is set to build city wherever you like, couple choices.

I'm not to opening a SG and find I'm in the middle of a turn. No big deal, but I prefer to be met by "Click space bar to continue".
D-Duck pulls out of germany. We don't want to annoy Bismarc too much with 37 g's in the box and orders to cave.
Some moves seem odd. A mined cow at York and a worker irrigating a bg nearby. I would have drawn the water E of York instead. We badly need iron but the only available I can see is on the Japanese island S. I'm thinking we could make a run for it if we get MM soon.
Change London to archer (see Bedes temple rant, haha). Will waste 2 shields but better make it ready for settler IF we can go for the free iron.
ibt--
London archer (Barney)-->settler
1450
Sell writing to Iro's for 135 g's
Buy a mongol slave for 117 g's
ibt--
1425
Found Highland Park in the NW mountains. I choosed off coast to get more cult pressure on Bad-Tibra, get the sugar and, I hoped for, some iron (but there was none).
ibt--
1400
Gary the Curragh gets whacked by barb galley, arrrgh  .
ibt--
York granny-->settler
1375
Lust gas up to 20 to prevent York from rioting
ibt--
Gilgamesh starts Temple of Artemis
1350
Abe now has MM. It should be high prioriy to trade for that
ibt--
G-ville warrior-->worker
1325
Scientist in London gets CoL in 3 and settler still in 1.
ibt--
London settler-->curragh
1300
Bicycle Repairman is assigned to MP duty in G-ville
We're average to Jap's, weak to the rest.
ibt--
1275
Workers work
ibt--
1250
Found Talisker N of London -->warrior (can be changed to worker when London grows)
ibt--
CoL finished. Start Lit.
1225
Sell CoL to Iro's for MM + 28 g's
CoL to Khan for 82 g's
CoL to Abe for 52 g's

I hoped to get at least math for the bunch of gold, but I failed  so next player should try to spend it asap. Now that we have MM the York settler (in 5) should be sent to London. We have a curragh ready for upgrading. The Iron in Japan is still free.
London is now set on Colossus since we need no more settlers for a while. Worker get down there to make it a fast builder.
Japan is a slow expander since Koyoto also is set on the bronze guy. Maybe we can squeeze out 1-2 settlers from York to settle some down there.

yeah I inherited that mined cow, damn near got the thing irrigated too. Figures Gary gets whacked before finishing off that island and whatever civs are on it.

Now a real question, Dahgda was irate  (ok probably just a little miffed) at opening an SG midturn. I'm not up on what's the thing to do, figured it was polite or whatever to leave the final turns to the next guy *shrug*. I take it I'm to play the full ten turns then leave it off yes?

the first thing the player should see is a blinking 'press space bar to play next turn'.

Oh no, not  . You should see me when I'm mad. Not to worry, I was just a bit surprised and it's easier to take over at the end of turn.

All right, guess I got it.

Keep your eyes on the iron down on the Jap island. You have Galleys next turn. Send settler from York + a warrior and try to claim it. since we cannot fight for it, that's our chance so high priority please.
Keep London growing and improved for colossus.

Preturn….. I vomit a little but it’s swallowed up by sand before it hits the ground.

Hit Enter

IBT
Gangsterville Worker(Pimpmeister)->Harbor

1 – 1200 B.C.
Pimpmeister of Gangsterville starts a road

IBT
Highland Park Warrior->Worker
Again… I throw up, this time getting a clean mud puddle in the sand! :vomit:
Yet it evaporates immediately.

2 – 1175 B.C.
Sumeria has Poly and doesn’t have Alpha, IW, HBR. Gilgamesh wants to be a king in a bad way.

IBT
USA Demands 29g, we send it in a bouquet of roses.
Talisker Warrior->Granary

3 – 1150 B.C.
Nothing happening

IBT
Two volcanoes erupt! Other than that, nothing.

4 – 1125 B.C.
MM York a bit, play with sliders a bit

IBT
York Settler->Harbor

5 – 1100 B.C.
Start Settler toward Curragh

IBT
Nothing

6 – 1075 B.C.
More worker turns

IBT
Germany and Sumeria sign Peace, that stinks

7 – 1050 B.C.
Purchase a slave from Germany for 116g
So we can’t upgrade a Curragh without Harbors yet and York will finish a galley in the same amount of time as a harbor, so I switch it.

IBT
Nothing

8 – 1025 B.C.
Sumeria is in Anarchy
Settler and Warrior are in London waiting.

IBT
Workers complete road to Horses

9 – 1000 B.C.
Darkwing Duck spots more iron in the Mountains out of our reach.

IBT
Nada

10 – 975 B.C.
Nothing really

The picture hasn’t really changed, just more roads really. This terrain is rancid, lets see if we can work anything out of this start.
http://forums.civfanatics.com/uploads/106808/MAP.JPG
Trade ops never really presented themselves to us, although Japan came out of nowhere and traded with our continent. No idea with what.
I name things because for this SG it's fun. :mischief: Soap dish the Curragh I have heading to cross the Ocean since I couldn’t upgrade him, you can do with him what you like.

Time to let 1 or 2 people jump in on this SG, lets? We lost one and have one MIA. Dahgs and myslef are on a small rotation here atm. Crappy start and all, I'd still like to see if we can even last until Demo and make the world pay for us being Sunbaked English Blokes

Daghdha
Feb 03, 2007, 02:52 PM
Variant- We play like 'lambs', ie, no demanding cave in too all demands, no wars, and no other aggression... until we hit democracy (bee-lining for it of course... ) then Democratic Always War (with war-time mobilization with Nationalism)!!! Note its when we research Demo, not when we switch, so we wanna like build up military for Judgement Day(TM)

Hey Boss, how come you reject Hiawathas demand for lit?

Cyllus
Feb 03, 2007, 03:24 PM
We're at war with Iroquois and Greece?

Feb 03, 2007, 05:11 PM

Daghdha

Losing Harry the Galley means losing a settler and a spear too. Not good. We must try to get that iron. Whoever plays get a galley and a settler out asap.

Honestly, I'm not sure this SG is surviving. Seems to be down to the 3 of us.

All I can say is “Too Late”. Furs are gone, iron is gone and mongols have a settler placed on the goody hut.

Abe finishes the wall. Mongols start The Glib
370BC
The Jap island is barb infested so will have to hold on dropping the settler
IBT
Sumerians finishes ToA. Our settler/galley is sunk by a barb ship.

This looks bad as ever, but who knows what will happen. Talisker will finish lib. next turn. Start a galley there and get the settler by London. Send him S but not un-escorted. If Greece or Iros land we might have to pay some for peace since we're short on steel.
