I'm making this one mod with a LOT of little people, and when they enter combat the game freezes. I already put down all the options, but in the term of the game (as in hardcore changes) to bring down the graphics even more?
Ps: i also took away all the shadows and glows

The real thing thats CPU consuming is the AI. If you want to go into the SDK and simplify everything that would help you out but it would ruin gameplay.

This isn't what my tests are showing. I find that the graphics engine is the biggest constraint. Even on very costly AI checks (an automated or ai worker checks every tile on the map to determine where it should go work) C++ pounds through raw numerical evaluations like a champ. But heaven forbid you try to swap a few dozen plains for grasslands tiles, the game pauses.
Thats been my results at least.

There is some project to replace units with board counter and simplify jungle and forest - that enhance the game much
