i just feel that playin civ even on marathon the ages just fly by albeit it does slow down around the middle ages but by that time i havent experienced any warfare for the previous ages.
when i 1st bought civ 4 last year there were a number of mods in developement that increased the amount of turns in a game. ive just returned to the game but cant find any such mods.
anyone know of any?

theres the Genetic Age mod that adds a future age to the game. Theres also the Visa mod which sort of expands the game abit as well.

There is a mod, I think it is called techslow, which slows down technology development. In addition you can grab a mod that increases the number of turns in a game, or edit that value yourself, and you've got a longer game :)
I'm working on a slightly different approach right now.. I want to add a ton of new techs to each age that are essentially unit upgrades. This will give a lot more combat options in each age, and will also stretch the ages because more time will be spent researching in each.

your mod sounds like exactly the kinda thing im lookin for. i remember that at the end of last year there were a few mods in developement but it appears nothing came of them which is a shame.
i have a marathon game of warlords goin now and its taken me a couple of days to get to the middle ages and i havent had to build any roman era units for eg. it just seems to go by to fast. i realise there are some people who like to play really quick games which i cant understand, but like eatin a really nice steak to fasr and not tastin it:sad:

There are things I really like about fast games, but I've always wanted to play one that took me forever to finish and that had ages that could have been games unto themselves. I want an age that is long enough for multiple periods of war and peace, and time for nations to rise and fall in power.
In addition to just adding techs I will need to tweak some values of course. For one thing I will need to introduce penalties to having too many cities that are alleviated when new techs come out (increase of the base penalties for maintenance, and introduce techs that reduce those penalties).
In addition I need to add in a health system that grows more realistically with time, so that you don't have an entire con tenant of 12 pop cities before you learn how to farm ;) I could do this by, again, increasing the base health penalties, but having more techs that decrease those penalties, that way you won't be able to grow huge cities until you research the proper sanitation techs (of which there will be several spaced out over time).
