The very real and potentially life threatening crisis that one of Australia's most loved creatures is under threat of extinction, is cause for such concern that every person must make haste to do all that they can to preserve this wonderful creature in his natural habitat.
The Threat
The greatest contributor to this poor creatures demise is habitat destruction. Without adequate enviromental support this poor creature will surely go the way of other less fortunates. A loss we don't want to bear. A grief we do't want to burden our children with, and a poor example to all the generations that might follow in our footsteps.
Recent cultural trends in Australia have created an artifical enviroment that has put pressure to bear on this creature. Pressure they were never meant to cope with, pressure they are unable to cope with and are unable to withstand, and if not halted and reveresed, may spell doom for this species of unique Aussie Fauna.
The recent introduction of a very harmful predator into this creatures enviroment has surely all but sounded it demise. The goverment has refused to act upon this matter. The media wont report on it. Most Australians aren't even aware of this issue, yet it is one that affects all of in a very real way.
The Species under threat
We have many wonderful creatures in Australia whose existence is under threat by enviromental change, the introduction of foreign predators that decimate local populations, the harrasment that is forced upon this creature on a daily basis is cruel and unrelenting.
The media exploits this creature on one hand, and romantisices it with the other!
Something must be done!
We must make a stand and stop this traversty!
Something must be done NOW!!
Stop this relentless attack on the Australian Couch Potato!!
The Great Aussie Icon
For many a generation the Aussie Couch Potato (ACP )has been a familiar and recognisable face in nearly every Aussie household. It's future now looks very bleak.
Where it once slothed and lounged in peace and reasonable tranquility in front of the TV on a Sunday afternoon, it now is being forced to participate in unnatural behaviour. Behaviour such as house renovations, extensive extended exhausting shopping trips to look at the latest furniture, or the latest cushions, or to look at new coverings for his mate. All without the promise of purchasing anything that has just been looked at.
Where the ACP once was able to partake of it's natural diet of sport, news, and cop shows, it is now forced to feed on an unhealthy diet of Do It Yourself (DYI) shows, Health shows, cooking programs and 'Reality' shows.
This lethal combination of shows is putting pressure on the ACP's mate to buy the latest furniture, paint the house a different colour etc, eat healthy non fat foods, just to keep up with the latest trends.
This in turn puts an intolerable amount of pressure on our poor lovable ACP. Pressure that forces him to have to adapt to this new enviroment, or face a long slow lonely demise.
The Answer
Whilst their numbers are being reduced, this trend can be reversed.
Their diet must be changed back to a 'balanced' diet of sport (Cricket, Footy, Motor Sports, Fishing etc), Cop Shows, Clint Eastwood movies, and plenty of rest in a nice comfy armchair or couch.
Their diet must be changed to meat pies, steak, lamb, chips and plenty of beer.
The effects of change may take time, but with perserverance, understanding, meat pies and a bigger TV, together we can bring this creature back from the point of extinction to the place of prominence it once had.
Next time you watch an exercise program, look at buying new furniture, want to try a new healthy recipe, Stop and spare a thought for the effect your decision has on a poor unsuspecting Aussie Icon.
