View Full Version : Turn 100-109
1889 Dec 15, 2006, 11:35 PM 375 BC turn 100
Aloha accepted the Mysticism for hunting deal and say they are looking forward to more. So next turn how about offering Polytheism for Sailing, both techs cost the same.
Mahavisa was born in Wheelville. He is enjoying the beach in Chowderton, out of sight of Loco for 4 turns until he rushes Civil Service. Our next Great Person will need 300 points but I’m not using any specialist right now.
Started mine near Polynesia, pasture near Magadan and cottage near Ploughland.
The wounded warrior decided to finish healing on top of that hill; he needs 3 more turns of rest. A little to the south, we’ve explored enough to open trade with Loco when we get sailing. In Loco we can see some new road west of the capitol, a lighthouse, an axeman and a worker building a road on that cottage just north of the city.
There is some unhealthiness in Ploughland but it is still growing well.
dutchfire Dec 16, 2006, 06:40 AM make sure you're using a scientist in wheelville, or we might get problems because the Great Person odds are calculated quite odd.
1889 Dec 18, 2006, 03:37 AM Our axeman has healed and left Magadan for the west coast tribal village. The Ploughland axe is going to cover Magadan until his triumphant return.
Ploughland finishes Temple in two turns and will begin a monastery. Missionaries will be needed to spread our religion.
Finished mine in Chowderton, will start cottage next turn.
Polynesia's pop grew and can now start producing some hammers.
Assigned a scientist to Wheelville, although a priest would be slightly better.
Offered Sailing for Polytheism to Aloha (both same price) this will open trade with Loco. We have Clam and Pig they have Gold and Corn. Also Loco has just discovered Iron Working.
Right now I'm planning to reduce science rate after Masonry. The treasury is getting used up fast.
We have just overtaken Piffle in score and show no sign of slowing down.
1889 Dec 20, 2006, 03:18 AM We got sailing from Aloha and can now trade with Loco. I offered our extra clams for their extra corn.
Aloha offered Math for Alpha but I refused. Math + Metal Casting for Alph, Priesthood and CoL is what I'll offer in a few more turns.
Our scout in Loco is going to go around the south side of that lake.
A barb warrior is about to get killed outside Polynesia.
Reduced science rate to 90% (without delaying CoL)
Ploughland finished temple, started monastery. Sinsburg's cottage grew to a hamlet.
An enjoyable little turn.
1889 Dec 22, 2006, 02:33 AM Loco did not accept the trade.
Offered Alph for Math to Aloha.
Axe kills barb warrior outside Polynesia without a scratch. Finished mine, will road the hill then start a cottage west of the city. Things are going slowly out there so I stagnated growth and want to rush the granary with 1 pop in 4 turns, then finish the library we started.
I was thinking of exploring around the south side of that water in Loco. I hope that warrior has better luck than our northern guy (who will be healed next turn and head down that land bridge.)
dutchfire Dec 22, 2006, 05:19 AM Might that landbridge lead to Epsilon or Piffle?
1889 Dec 22, 2006, 08:33 AM I had assumed that it leads to Aloha, but the southern guy may come across one of the "lost" civs.
dutchfire Dec 23, 2006, 07:09 AM To Aloha? The guy in the north-east is going to Aloha. Aloha couldn't have come from here, as they said that they didn't know where Loco was exactly.
edit: maybe build a galley too, anytime soon?
1889 Dec 23, 2006, 11:57 AM I'm not sure what you mean, where else could Aloha have come from without running into Loco. In anycase, I'm just guessing.
As for a galley...I thought you'd never ask. Wheelville will be busy for a while so Chowderton is the only place to build one, but the que is currently set for barracks, axe, settler.
dutchfire Dec 24, 2006, 03:32 AM Simon siger:
what you thinking about loco?
Simon siger:
(i assume you met, as we met them near you)
Simon siger:
the only drawback is, aloha has no idea where they are
From the chat Theoden had.
I think that this (http://forums.civfanatics.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=144373&d=1166250738) path leads to Aloha.
Theoden Dec 24, 2006, 04:17 AM My understanding has also been that Aloha would be where dutchfire suggested.
There may a good possibility of finding Piffle or Epsilon behind Loco. It's not as if they would speak up about it if they knew either of them, it seems.
1889 Dec 28, 2006, 03:35 AM 275 BC
Aloha has accepted the deal: we got Alphabet and Metal Casting but we have to share Col with them next turn. Our prophet is psyched about Civil Service and every one is looking forward to Masonry.
Workers have finished a cottage in Ploughland and roads have been started in Polynesia and Magadan.
For next turn:
Chowderton’s pop grows to 4
Sinsburg finishes the work boat
Begin cottage in Ploughland
Axe will capture goody hut from warrior (100% says the combat calculator)
Some things to ponder until then:
- What will we get from the goody hut? (I guess 43 gold)
- And will religions spread between Innovia and Locotopia?
Wheelville trades with Shortline
Ploughland trades with B and O
Sinsburg trades with Pennsylvania
Chowderton trades with Reading
Sinsburg has no religion and Pennsylvania is the Jewish holy city so we will probably loose there, but Wheelville has our shrine and Loco has none, so I’d say it looks good for us.
Theoden Dec 28, 2006, 05:00 AM Sinsburg has no religion and Pennsylvania is the Jewish holy city so we will probably loose there.
I don't think the actual trade routes affects spread of religion. I'm pretty sure it is equal for all cities that are just connected.
So chances are good that Sinsburg will get our religion rather than theirs, when it gets one.
1889 Dec 29, 2006, 02:01 PM Discovered Code of Law,Sent it to Aloha, started Massonry (2 turns) and rushed Civil Service (2 turns left).
Finished a cottage in Ploughland and started another.
Finished Work Boat in Sinsburg.
Axeman captured hut and got...map :(
We are second place in score and 3rd in population but we will get 4 more over the next 3 turns so that will probably change.
We can now adopt Caste System (unlimited scientists, artists and priests) but it cost 1 more gold and we may still use slavery so I'm holding off.
Slight change of plans:
I think we will have enough workers, so Sinsburg will start a settler next turn instead.
It also looks like our Axeman will be back at site 3 in time so Chowder may skip the Axe and build a galley instead.
1889 Jan 01, 2007, 02:04 AM We are rapidly approaching 1st place in score but while we don't seem to be so hot according to the demographics screan we are certainly keeping up with our neighbors.
We finished Masonry and will have Civil Service in 2
Our warrior can see a border to the east, but it looks like barbarians.
Sinsburg is fishing the clams and building a settler (11 turns)
Ploughlands worker is going to help build the quarry at Magadan (I didn't realise they take 8 turns to build!)
Some kind of connection trouble so no pictures today, sorry.
dutchfire Jan 01, 2007, 03:38 AM Where will the sinsburg settler go?
1889 Jan 01, 2007, 09:29 AM I was hoping to settle according to this plan, Strategy: 5th century BC, post #4
I was planning to settle site 3 next, then site 1.
dutchfire Jan 01, 2007, 09:33 AM I'd prefer site 1 first, any idea how much upkeep it will cost?
1889 Jan 01, 2007, 09:42 AM Here are the results of some world builder experiments to determine costs of the 3 city expansion plan pictured in post #4.
Site 3 will begin with an upkeep of 4, and will also add 1 gold to the upkeep of Magadan from the increase in number of cities.
Site 2 will require 6 gold for maintenance, and increase the upkeep of Sinsburg by 1 gold.
Site 1 will cost 7 gold and increase Wheelville’s upkeep by 1.
To balance these cost keep in mind the trade routes will add at least 1 gold, as will the spread of Hinduism. In addition each site will have citizens who can work commerce tiles and the populations of our other cities will be expanding as well.
1889 Jan 03, 2007, 09:45 AM Finished Massonry, started Civil Service (2 turns) Monotheism next (+25% buildings).
Started the Quarry at Magadan and sent a second worker to help.
That means GL in about 18 turns. We may get it even sooner if: we run a preist specialist instead of scientist, we chop some forest, we sacrafice some people. I like all that except the forest chop, Wheelville has few enough hammers as it is.
Hinduism has spread to Polynesia! Border expansion in 10 but we will need Iron working to improve the pigs tile. I'm not sure that Aloha would trade that for Liturature, but we can try.
Loco has built a shrine and look at that those tiles. They sure have a nice backyard.
False alarm on what appeared to be a border to the NE. Its just some graphics glitch.
dutchfire Jan 03, 2007, 11:00 AM Are we almost on the end in the NE? One more move at least.
1889 Jan 03, 2007, 11:34 AM I think we'll find another land bridge in the far corner.

dutchfire Jan 06, 2007, 10:37 AM My take on the foreign affairs
To Epsilon
We would be interested in trading for Currency, what do you want for it?
try to determine in a chat if they're going for the GLib
To Loco
We would like monarchy
To Aloha
We would like Iron Working+Calendar+monotheism
We've seen how far Epsilon is ahead, and we agree that we should do something about it
+land deal?
1889 Jan 06, 2007, 11:12 AM To Loco: clam for corn.
Alphabet for Monarchy
To Aloha: Trade Lit for Iron and we’ll let you trade CoL away.
Everyone already has Alpha so it’s not that big anymore. Aloha doesn’t have anything to trade to us for CS so they will deal with Piffle, we need to grant them permission to do so or we needlessly build resentment.
1889 Jan 06, 2007, 11:23 AM Wow, now thats an update!
Any ideas how Epsilon got that score and such a huge tech lead?
Looks like our NE warrior isn't getting through, we can wait for the barb to get killed by Aloha or wait till we get a boat on that side of the continent.
Where did you move the southern warrior.
Theoden Jan 06, 2007, 12:12 PM Now this changes the game situation quite a bit. I agree with both of you about proposals to other civs. I will send out the messages later tonight.
dutchfire Jan 06, 2007, 12:22 PM Any ideas how Epsilon got that score and such a huge tech lead?
Where did you move the southern warrior.
NW
I've got no idea, but they've got some excellent players in DaveMCW and Memphus, and General_W is an excellent MTDGer too.
dutchfire Jan 06, 2007, 12:39 PM By the way, there's a chance Epsilon will beat us too the Great Library.
Theoden Jan 06, 2007, 02:36 PM By the way, there's a chance Epsilon will beat us too the Great Library.
If we think about it, why would they have researched literature if they aren't building the great library? At least I wouldn't research Lit this early just for the NE...
This means that we will have to pop-rush the GL as soon as we can if Epsilon hasn't beaten us to it by that time.
btw, how many GP's have been born in the world yet? They could have achieved the tech lead by lightbulbing a lot...
Theoden Jan 06, 2007, 04:17 PM I've caught up with the diplomatic storm now. :)
I have sent the following to the different teams.
Epsilon:
agreed to start out in peaceful relations
asked them what they want for currency
asked to have a chat
Loco:
offered alpha for monarchy
offered clams for corn
Aloha:
offered Lit and the right to trade CoL to Piffle for IW
asked for a chat about the Epsilon Issue (tm)
DaveShack Jan 06, 2007, 10:43 PM Epsilon built the Oracle. They got a tech and some wonder points that turn. Also they must have a lot of commerce tiles, possibly some mined gold and silver given their huge lead in GNP.
1889 Jan 08, 2007, 08:01 AM Loco has accepted Monarchy for Alph
Civil Service finished, started Monotheism (3 turns)
Adopted Hereditary rule (+1 happiness per troop) and Bureaucracy (+50% hammer and gold in Wheelville)
Offered Loco Clam for Corn
Offered Aloha Lit for Iron
We’re probably in a race against an industrious civ to finish GL so I have done all I can to expedite production. Wheelville has sent all specialist back to the fields and taken pigs back from Chowderton. 10 hammers for the next 3 turns until the Quarry is finished and pop growth in 3. We will have the option to rush 4 people at least and so may need less than 10 turns to finish.
dutchfire Jan 09, 2007, 03:50 AM +OR bonus
btw why is Parthenon in our build queue?
