View Full Version : Fall from Heaven's birthday
Kael Dec 17, 2006, 07:00 PM Its Fall from Heaven's birthday!!! Our first release came out one year ago. Its been quite a year form my little pet project to a popular mod with a whole team of people (much more talented than me) working on it.
In celebration we put together an updated version of Fall from Heaven (the original, not FfH2). All of the unit models have been reviewed and updated if better models were available. It also has a compacted art file so it will load much faster than previous version (if you have an older version delete it before you install this version).
Finally it features a fix for the Ashen Veil CTD that plagued us for so long. I didn't figure out how to finally fix that until far into FfH2 so the fix never made it back.
You may also find some special skins for Heman and Typhoid Mary made by SeZereth that haven't even been rolled into FfH2 yet.
Enjoy, and thanks for all of the community support and kind words about Fall from Heaven.

wilboman Dec 18, 2006, 06:43 AM Well, I couldn't add anything to the anniversary edition, but here's a small contribution from me nonetheless, in honour of this auspicious occasion:
The door to the dark, misty tower boomed. Once, twice, three times. If you listened carefully, you could hear the echoes reverberating through more corridors than should reasonably exist in a round structure with a diameter of about ten metres. At least, so said Yvain the Woodelf. But then again, Yvain’s big pointy ears gave him unnatturally good hearing. Noone else heard a thing. But the inhabitant of the tower sure was taking his time about getting the door.
“Maybe we should get yon frosty and dumb here to kick the door in”, Loki grinned, pointing at Wilboman, who was standing at the back of the party, “I mean, he must be useful for something.” The frost giant’s only response was an inarticulate grunt and a very personal swing of his club. Of course, it never connected, and before he knew it, Loki was sitting on his shoulder, cackling in his usual disconcerting manner. Wilboman made some more fruitless swings at the clown and the gave up, realising that it was futile. His shoulders sagged and he let out a sad stream of mumbles.
“He says: Loki bad, no be naughty to Wilbermn, he know thinkbox slow in... uhm, I’ll leave that part out... heat,” translated his handler, a young Illian that went by the name of seZereth.
From beneath his extremely impressive beard, Corlindale issued a statement of support: “Yes, the frost giant is right. This is a happy occasion, we should all just get along.” Chalid Astrakhein agreed, after a fashion: “I was about to say teasing him was below your dignity, Loki, but in any case, I agree with Corlindale – if you keep this up, one of us is going to get hurt, and you know well it isn’t you, with your infernally frustrating acrobatics.” He was calmly stroking his current summoned pet of choice, a very large White Rabbit with a manic expression and large red eyes. He seemed rather fond of it, but it scared the bejeezus out of everyone else. Wilboman constructed another elaborate grunt, articulation not being his strong suit. “You seeing, stoopid clown man, noone other like you neither,” seZereth translated. Loki frowned in mock sadness, a look made even more grotesque by his face painting, and then amused himself by juggling babies. Noone knew where they appeared from, and noone wanted to know. Corlindale watched in horror until the babies suddenly disappeared again.
Suddenly, a light came on in the very top of the tower. “I can hear someone talking to himself,” Yvain the Woodelf said, and then, under his breath and with a hint of apprehension, “ And he doesn’t seem happy.” The two men just behind Yvain, Roland the artist and Nikis, the bard-cum-knight, looked a little ill at ease: “I told you it was a silly idea to tag along with this bunch. Now we’re going to get it,” the one mumbled to the other. The reply was short: “Look, if it turns nasty, we’ll just get behind the frost giant and hope he can stop a fireball or two.” Corlindale overheard them: “That’s a horrible way to talk. You should be ashamed of yourselves, you two.” Nikis and Roland reddened a bit, there are few things in the world more calculated to make you feel like mud than a kindly old man who is suddenly disappointed in you. It’s like getting spat on by Santa Claus.
As the sound of footsteps approached to the massive iron doors, Yvain pushed to the front of the little party, to what the travellers had started calling the Woodelf position, right in front of the entrance. The door creaked open, very, very slowly, and a dark, cowled figure came into view. “I hope you travellers have an extremely good excuse for disturbing a most interesting experiment into the transmission of pain, or else I might just find a use for you in the later stages of that same experiment,” a voice croaked from within the darkness of the hood. Most of the team blanched, even Wilboman managed to turn a little whiter than he started off. An army of macemen was one thing, but an angry sorceror with – gulp – fire magic? Not something any frost giant with his head screwed on right would want to mess with. Loki had somehow managed to fade out of sight, but the Woodelf would not be put off.
He strode forward and gave Kael Coalbane a massive bearhug, shaking the cowl off the sorceror’s head. “How are you doing, you dirty old necromancer, you? Still dating Rosie O’Donnell?” The shock and surprise on Kael’s face was so obvious Nikis had to stifle a laugh. Roland took a step away from him. Humans should stick together, but who knew what a man like Kael might do if offended?
As Kael was dropped, he managed to choke forth a clearly flustered “Oh, it’s you lot,” before regaining his necromantorial composure, “I hope you realise that you are disturbing some very important work. There are demons that will be most unhappy,” he intoned in a not-entirely-convincing voice of doom. Loki rematerialised, holding Chalid’s white rabbit, much to Chalid’s (and indeed, the rabbit’s) surprise. “Bah, humbug,” he cackled, “You were conjuring forth succubi again, weren’t you?” he finished, with a grin that was a full three inches broader than his face. The rabbit grew tired of being stroked by Loki, bit his hand and bounced back to Chalid, who took the opportunity to say: “I suppose now is about the time to give him the present.”
Talchas the tinkerer, the man who had made their gift, stepped forward and gave it to Kael. The sorceror, looking rather suprised, tore the gift open with the slow dignity that befitted his evil-sorcerorness, but the glee was apparent in his eyes. As he looked at the little token, Talchas smiled. “It’s got fully working parts, see?” he said, and spun one of the wheels with his index finger. Kael fiddled with the toy for a second, and his evil composure cracked wide open as he said: “A miniature Trojan Horse. Just what I always wanted.”
“Happy birthday!” the team cheered, except Wilboman, who seemed to just roar for the pleasure of it (although seZereth would later confirm that he was in fact roaring the Frost Giant equivalent of happy birthday: “Funny first-squishing year past happy party”).
