View Full Version : Tubs' christmas wish 3-men cage match

Alright, so this thread will be for the 3-men, no-AI, AW match. DaveShack, please confirm you wanted in this, I might be assuming you're in wrongly.

I take it we have
Tubs: China,
Dave: Celts,
Beorn: Sum Rome ?

I posted earlier in the "Organising..." thread that I wanted sumeria but that was in the spirit of a 5-man MTDG civs game; for AW I'd be more inclined to take something else. Tubs made it loud that he wanted China, Dave, any other picks for you ?

Needed things:
-map settings
-map maker
-spoiler threads
-leader name details

My take on the map:
I'm for a pangea setting, archipelago would make it a whole different story. Maybe a donut shaped hub-type map?
Also, no cheesy 'all ressources are everywhere' map. SoZ as in this game (300s, no ressource). Barbs in, any amount you see fit.

I'm cool with whatever.. I used to only play all random, even the civ, but those people are few and far between so I'm getting used to hand made stuff

I take it Ethan likes numbers a lot.

Random map is alright, although making sure the starts are the least bit balanced is a plus.

Tubby Rower
Dec 18, 2006, 03:07 PM
yeah.. I've found ou that completely random starts on a MP game isn't always fair. I had a PBEM with grs and we had continents and we started on the same one and he got in the middle of a swamp. I didn't get a power start, but it was better than his.

Um...what IS a cage match?

Beorn-eL-Feared
Dec 18, 2006, 06:53 PM
It's a bunch of big wrestlers, in a gigantic cage, fighting.

Tubby Rower
Dec 19, 2006, 05:36 AM
so should I try to recruit a map-maker? or have you started the interview process B?

Whomp
Dec 19, 2006, 12:11 PM
ThERat and I would join but we'd like to get Greebley and Ynnek (and Wotan if he's around) in a game too.

Tubby Rower
Dec 19, 2006, 12:24 PM
Whomp, I have your map set up now. it's a balanced map that would be good for the MTDG noobs.. I think that this game is more about just kicking each others' tails

DaveShack

Confirming I'm interested in playing this game.

I was certain I replied earlier - must've forgot to push the post reply button.

so should I try to recruit a map-maker? or have you started the interview process B?Yes, I was using wishful thinking towards the end of having a mapmaker popping out of the sky for us. Hasn't worked out so far, but it has for the 5-men, and it will if the other 3-men gets up and about.

Tubby Rower
Dec 20, 2006, 05:42 AM
well if we tell you that we want to be very surprised then we'll be expecting surprises which will nullify the surprise.

just surprise us :p ...even with no surprises.

be creative and make a wonderful world for all to see.

Robi D
Dec 20, 2006, 05:50 AM
I was meaning more along the lines symmetry and stuff, but i will let my imagaination go to work. Give me a couple of days and i'll have it for you to kick off before the weekend

Tubby Rower
Dec 20, 2006, 05:54 AM
well the thing is that we won't know it's symmetrical until we explore quite a bit. The only thing that will be hard to figure out is the thing Beorn said in the 1st post....No "all resources everywhere". but also keeping it balanced so no one team is disadvantaged.

I have some ideas for a map, but I don't want to spoil your creativity.... but if someone is making a map for another game, I'd be happy to share.

I already have the base. Just a matter of the topping:)

Just a few quick questions.
Is it still AW?
Do you want the play order randomised?
Do you want me to set the passwords or do you trust each other;)
Are the civs finalised?

Tubby Rower

I already have the base. Just a matter of the topping:) I like strawberries

Just a few quick answers.
Is it still AW? yes I think so
Do you want the play order randomised? sure
Do you want me to set the passwords or do you trust each other;) I find that having passwords helps when we accidentally send the wrong file. A simple one letter password would suffice
Are the civs finalised?sure

Beorn-eL-Feared

Ditto x 5, so that's Tubs China, B Rome, Dave Celt. If you could make my adjective "Laser", in the civ making process, I'd be much obliged.

Robi D
Dec 21, 2006, 04:15 AM
The map is done.

You didn't specify a difficulty level so i chose a middle of the road one in Monarch.

All your request have been catered for. If you forgot something well too late:p

The play order as determined by the rng on my calculator is as follows
1.Tubby
2.Dave
3.Beorn

As for the map i will give this advice

1. It my first one so don't hate me;)
2. There is some symmetry, but not mirror like either
3. There are plenty of resources
4. But the resources arn't all in reach to begin with
5. And the more modern the resource, the fewer there are (some have less than 3), and finally
6. There are many paths to reach your goal.

I hope you enjoy and i want to see lots of screenies in your spoilers and lots of praising the map too. May the best man win.

Oh and i've pm'ed your passwords

Here is the save tubby:)

 I never said i was going to be nice:evil: . Besides which you should all know things arn't always as they appear to be, however i did give lots of clues in my 6 points of advice.

Since i'm feeling nice at the moment i'll give you a 7th, since point 1 is more about self preservation

7. I love stategy and tactics. I find one dimension play, frankly quite boring. This map is full of stategic and tactical possibilites to utilised. Not doing so will see you get punished:hammer: :spank:

And as one final clue, Whomp has seen the map and his reaction was
:rotfl: Love it!!!
Its evil

How are we naming these...

the one I got from BEF is 3MC-B-003.SAV

but after I played I named it 3MC003_A.SAV

I figured that since I was 1st in the play order, I'd be A... I'm just confused and wanted to keep it all consistent

Whomp
Dec 22, 2006, 12:49 PM
For me, lettering is confusing. Why not stick your name in there. IE Tubs, Beorn and Dave?

Tubby Rower
Dec 22, 2006, 12:51 PM
then do I put my name or Dave's (since it's going to him) ?

Beorn-eL-Feared
Dec 22, 2006, 02:31 PM
Naming is a formality. I'll write Beorn though, since it is much less confusing than B, especially if you name yours A.

Tubby Rower
Dec 22, 2006, 03:24 PM
ah. I vote DAve's method using names.. B, you can use B and I'll likely use TR since those involve the least amount of wear and tear on the ether's net. Also it allows for more use of your keyboard for spam ;)

Beorn-eL-Feared
Dec 22, 2006, 04:02 PM
That method is nice when you put them all in the same bag but it's much inconvenient when you have folders - changing folder cancels the game name, so that you lose track of the year.

So I'll rebuke and pest and protest and whine and will write the year by hand next time ;)

Robi D

HOLD THE SAVE

Ok stupid me:crazyeye:. I've just noticed i made an error with Tubby's start.

It is a minor thing and i can correct it quickly.

So you guys lose the minimum amount of time possible i can play the saves for you up to were you are at as it would not have influenced any of your move up to now including Tubby's.

Is the save up to Dave on turn 3?

Robi D
Dec 22, 2006, 07:35 PM

I ran into Tubby and told him the problem and he is happy to continue as its only minor :).

Sorry to be a bother, didn't think of it that way. ;)

I do use folders, waaay too many to keep track of without it. The real pain is that C3C doesn't remember where you last saved and start its directory structure from there. In fact when saving it doesn't even start from where that save was loaded.

And the email program does keep track of last saved folder... most of my games are [civ4] so I'm putting my C3C PBEM's into the \my documents\my games\smc4\saves directory. Makes saving them from C3C oh so special. :mischief:

BTW, who has it? I last sent on 12/24, probably just a vacation thing...

Thanks, B. it's been coming on for a while. Alzheimer's disease is progressive and eventually the brain forgets how to function and everything else follows. She's had it for over 12 years and it's in it's last stages. She hasn't recognized anyone except Granddaddy for over a year and now she's not responding to even basic stimuli. So they have her only on morphine to manage pain and basically waiting on her to stop breathing (as morbid as that sounds).

So if I haven't played a turn in the near future, that's why. I'll play as soon as I get back home just like I did last night.
