Since the excellent Horse Archer was posted, I've used it to replace the Knight in the non-European civs that wouldn't have used heavy western plate armour. However I felt that the pikeman now looked out of place next to the Horse Archer, so I came up with a replacement.

I've stuck with a generic name rather than anything too specific, as I'm using it across several cultures. As you can see it's the Immortal unit with a longarm rather than a scimitar. A bit lazy, I know but It does look good in the game (well, I think so).

The only other name that occured to me was Saracen, but middle eastern history is not my specialist subject.

I'm open to suggestions.

With a little change in the clothing I would say it looks like the Iko-Ike (japanese budish rebels) with the naginata. :cooool:

And you are quite right Lab Monkey; the civ3 Pikeman with all his armour does look out of place in the Middle East.

I don't know what your next project is (I'm currently up to my neck at the moment with Macedonians), but how do you fancy animating this Muslim Horseman? ;)

Although your unit look more like a thracian armed with a Romphia...two handed cutting weapon which was very good against other infantry
