View Full Version : Any one here watch Cricket?
ultranet Dec 29, 2006, 12:39 AM Hello all sports fan
I was just wondering if any1 watches the cricket here?. The Ashes series is going on, and aussie I guess, they are doing preety good. The time has certainly changed when englishmen used to dominate the ashes series..
How do you think about this guys?
cheers
col Dec 29, 2006, 01:04 PM Its been a long time since we dominated the Ashes. Even when we won 18 months ago it was desperately close.
And we got hammered this time.
And yes I watched
:cry
classical_hero Dec 31, 2006, 11:47 AM I watch and I am very happy. :D
handyandy Jan 01, 2007, 08:45 PM i am watching now and have watched most days play, advantages of being a student with Christmas holidays. Or at least it would be if we weren't woefully below par. We missed Vaughnys captaincy and Simon Jones Reverse swinging pearls .
ultranet Jan 02, 2007, 03:18 AM well, ashes series is going well I guess. How about South africa and India Test series going on.
Well, you have no idea how India hypied about the win of first test in SA. They are good teams but why their performace is under question all the time. Either players gets into argument with coach or other way around..
How do you guys see the perfomance of Indian in cricket?
any thoughts..
Simon Darkshade Jan 04, 2007, 08:07 PM It has been a while since Frank Tyson came out here.
As for India, over rated and underachievers, although that has a lot to do with high expectations from fans, and also a detrimental love of and interest in ODI cricket. They tend to rely upon the same figures on a consistent basis, but come out with some new youngsters now and then.
azzaman333 Jan 05, 2007, 07:44 AM I'm hoping for an epic ODI series between Australia, England and New Zealand to make up for the lackluster performances of England in the tests. I just dont find it interesting to watch even my own country completely destroy the 2nd best team in the world...
Wobbegong Jan 05, 2007, 05:07 PM I was expecting something like 2-1 at the start of the series, with Australia losing a dead rubber as is their habit, but 5-0? :shake:
We missed Vaughnys captaincy...But not his batting.
...and Simon Jones Reverse swinging pearls .It don't swing like that in this country. Haven't you noticed? It's a shame he didn't tour, though. It would've been interesting to see how he performed in Australian conditions.
How do you guys see the perfomance of Indian in cricket?Appalling record away from home. That's what you get for preparing pitches that heavily favour your own players all the time.

Didn't Jones get injured at the start of the last Australian Ashes tour as well?
Wobbegong Jan 05, 2007, 06:57 PM Yeah, IIRC he did his knee in sliding to field a ball near the boundary in the very first test match of the series.
From a Kiwi perspective, it's good to see Shane Bond back in the side. Let's hope he stays fit. There's a real lack of decent fast bowlers around the world at the moment.

There was some reverse and standard swing for clarke and lee, no reason that jones couldn't have found some and with his extra pace it would have been interesting. Vaughn may not have scored all that heavily in the last series, he is a mighty fine batsman and as such would have added a little bit of stability to the shaky batting.
And home pitches are home pitches, they are never going to be any different lol.
Wobbegong Jan 07, 2007, 07:30 PM There was some reverse and standard swing for clarke and lee, no reason that jones couldn't have found some and with his extra pace it would have been interesting.Swing bowling isn't impossible over here, there's just not as much assistance for it. No doubt Jones is a fine bowler, but he'd find producing 'swinging pearls' with regularity a much tougher proposition in the Australian environment with the Kookaburra balls (retain shine longer, get softer faster, reverse less effective).
Vaughn may not have scored all that heavily in the last series, he is a mighty fine batsman and as such would have added a little bit of stability to the shaky batting. His record with the bat since becoming England captain is mediocre. The guys who failed to deliver in this series have performed better than he has over the last few years. With that in mind, I don't see him as a major loss to your batting line up. If available, I suppose they could've dropped one of the seamers and moved Flintoff to 7. Anyway, he's back for the one-dayers now. Let's see what kind of nick he's in.
TopDog Jan 12, 2007, 09:01 PM Hell yea i do. The tri series is gonna be awesome. I wonder who out of us and England will come 2nd?
handyandy Jan 18, 2007, 02:30 PM I don't believe it , he is injured again, he has looked in good touch tho both games before getting out. England need some bowlers with aggression and control, when ever Bret lee runs in you think something could happen out but when john lewis trundles in i just hope the ball doesn't go for six.
aaglo Jan 19, 2007, 03:57 AM To me cricket is an insect, not a sport. :p
I don't understand why people play that game, but I'm not living in commonwealth
Maybe those who do understand it better
Harbourboy Feb 01, 2007, 11:29 AM Well, I'm pretty happy that New Zealand have now started winning a couple of games. Having Jacob Oram back in the team is great. That man is a monster!
Last chance for England tonight. Can one of their batsmen actually get some runs against Australia this time?

England actually doin quite well at the moment, 142-1  Having Jake back is awesome, hes a great player.
Plus, his brother is the coach of my cricket team.

Yeah, Oram is definately a key player for the Kiwis, as is Pietersen for England. If Joyce had played more earlier in the tour, he probably wouldve been able to perform similar to the way he's played today.
Harbourboy Feb 03, 2007, 02:13 AM Big game for us against Australia tomorrow. It's a big ask for Australia to lose twice in a row.

It will take some very good cricket from New Zealand to do it though. With Ponting and Lee most likely coming back into the team, and Australia infurated from losing to England, the Kiwis might want to be very careful.
Harbourboy Feb 03, 2007, 11:33 PM Australia must be a bit worried that England and New Zealand's second rate batting line ups have looked so comfortable against the Aussie bowlers in the last few games. I think Australia's bowlers are not looking as scary as they have in the past. That's bad news for Australia for when they come up against the better batsmen in teams like India at the World Cup.
TopDog Feb 04, 2007, 02:26 AM Good effort from NZ - 290 and now Aussie 68-2, Hayden picked out Taylor. Funny how James Franklins left arm half volley bowling gets wickets
Harbourboy Feb 04, 2007, 04:32 AM This is so unfair. Where do Australia keep finding these superstar batsmen from? Hussey hasn't even had to come in yet and they've almost won.

Yeah, but we arent too worried because we have been using ths series to test which combination of fast bowlers we should use at the world cup.

Hodge finally gets a good score in a ODI. :D He'd have probably played international cricket for at least 4 years in just about any other country.
TopDog Feb 05, 2007, 12:29 AM It was so obvious Hodge was going to get a score against us, crap players always do well against us as we bowl them into form!
phoenix_night Feb 05, 2007, 07:10 AM Funny how James Franklins left arm half volley bowling gets wickets
Is that a comment just on this particular performance, or James Franklin in general?
He played for us last year (Glamorgan), and managed to lose us quite a few matches - often over pitching to the point of waist high full tosses, and even beamers. Once he was pulled out of the attack for dangerous bowling...being at the death of the match, and with no other front line bowlers to replace him, we managed to lose that encounter quite comfortably...knocked us out of the cup too, IIRC.
Harbourboy Feb 05, 2007, 10:45 AM It's all on today for NZ v England. I reckon it should be a cracker!
EDIT: That was really good batting by England. Why haven't they batted like that more often? They showed they have the skills. Flintoff should be ashamed as he should have really cashed in on the start he got. And as for New Zealand's fielding - the less said the better.
