If you currently have ViSa Modpack v2.1 or earlier installed, you DO NOT have to remove it to install ViSa Expansion Pack 3. ViSa Modpack v2.1 can exist with ViSa Expansion Pack 3 without any problems, so the choice is yours if you have some old games or MP to finish, then keep it around.
Previous ViSa v3 will need to be uninstalled....which is easily done via the Start Menu - ViSa Expansion Pack 3 group or via Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. This is NOT a patch but a full version only release.
This updated version is NOT save game compatible, so please finish your current game before updating.
Please play with language set to English as full translations to any other language are not fully supported at this time.
ViSa Expansion Pack 3 Installation and Configuration
Full Version
This mod is contained in an Automatic Installer, run the EXE and follow the directions.
The mod now has its own icon to run, so when the Installer is complete just run ViSa from the icon.
The Automatic Installer will clear the cache AND the custom assets directories. So if you have Blue Marble Terrain or some other things in custom assets then you will need to back them up or reinstall after ViSa is installed.
Please use Add/Remove Programs option in the Windows Control Panel to remove ViSa to clear the registry keys. DO NOT delete the ViSa_v3 directory in the Warlords\Mods folder.
ViSa-Component-Control.ini
The Modified Special Domestic Advisor is enabled by default, but ViSa has two other options that are set in the INI listed above that is located in the Warlords\Mods\ViSa_v3 directory.
ViSa Domestic Advisor = Vanilla Domestic Advisor
ViSa Domestic Advisor = Customizable Domestic Advisor
ViSa Domestic Advisor = Modified Special Domestic Advisor
Numerous Mod Comps can be turned on/off either at the start of a game or during a game. This allows players to customize their gaming experience and turn off components that slow Civ down in the late game. These are also in the INI listed above.
MAJOR NOTE on Save Games
The MAF Work-Around by Nev creates TWO SAVE GAME FILES, one in the regular save location and another in the NCSaver directory. Both of these files are required to load a save and thus both must be copied/uploaded when giving another player your save game.
MP games do NOT have the NCSaver feature so they may get more MAF's but this allows easy loading of saved MP games.
Lastly, the NCSaver directory never gets emptied, so it can grow rather large (my two test computers were both near 4GB worth of files in the NCSaver directory) so it is suggested to clean it our periodically.
NCSaver directory is in \My Games\Warlords\Saves\NCSaver

If you haven't installed v2.00 as a full and clean install, it is STRONGLY recommended that you delete the entire \Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Warlords\Mods\VISA directory and install a fresh, full version of ViSa v2.00 and then the latest patch, which includes all previous patches. Version 2.00 Full includes registry settings that are required by ViSa python files.
A 'letter' increment in the Patch Build indicates a save game compatible update, whereas a 'number' increment usually means the update is not save game compatible.
Please play with language set to English as full translations to any other language are not fully supported at this time.
ViSa Installation
Full Version
This mod is contained in an Automatic Installer, run the EXE (extract from RAR if you chose that download) and follow the directions.
To have the mod load automatically at game startup, edit the CIVILIZATION.INI file in your \My Documents\My Games\Warlords directory. Change the "Mods=0" to "Mods=Mods\VISA".
The Automatic Installer will clear the cache AND the custom assets directories.
Please use Add/Remove Programs option in the Windows Control Panel to remove ViSa to clear the registry keys.
Patch Update
The latest patch is contained in an EXE and RAR format. Please run the EXE or extract the RAR to the \Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Warlords\Mods\VISA directory.
You may need to clear the cache by deleting everything in the C:\Documents and Settings\{YOUR USERNAME}\Application Data\My Games\Warlords\cache before starting the game (highly recommended).

Tboy Jan 04, 2007, 04:02 AM Would it be possible to make a vanilla version of this mod? I have several friends who have vanilla but not warlords, and who don't plan to get the expansion, but who would like to play this mod.
Spearthrower Jan 04, 2007, 08:03 AM Tboy check out this link:
http://keldath.family-veldman.com/
There's a vanilla one there.....
But just for the record, if they hadn't made a vanilla one, it would have been far easier for your friends to pickup a cheap copy of Warlords than writing a new version for vanilla just for them! ;)
It's probably really cheap by now anyway, so go bully them into buying it!! :)
keldath Jan 04, 2007, 01:08 PM Tboy hi
there a vanilla file in the maik vusa site,
browes the old versions,
the version is fully working - but many things are miising and not polished as they are in the wr version - but it has the main stuff of visa.
acctually its also the last version i got to play with since we started visa........
it also workes on mp.
enjoy.
agoodfella Jan 04, 2007, 11:22 PM Hey folks, I know this is probably the dumbest question thats going to posted in here (and I've sent a PM to TAFirehawk just now), but impatience is getting the best of me, so here goes:
Does the "Assets" folder in the Patch 2.10 --> OVERRIDE --> the "Assets" folder in the Programs > Firaxis > Civ4 > Warlords > Mods > ViSa subfolder?
Even though the "Assets" folder in the ViSa mods folder (original i.e. not the patch) is so much larger?:
711 MB, 540 files and 74 folders
vs.
and the "Assets" folder in the Patch which is: 26.9 MB, 227 files and 59 folders (i.e. considerably smaller)
Simply put, is it correct in thinking that i should cut and replace / override the Assets Folder from the Patch OVER the original Assets folder in the Mods / Visa / subfolder (even though the Assets folder from the Patch is so much smaller?)
I hope I am making sense.
Also same question applies to the ViSa configuration settings (i.e. do i just override the ViSa one with the Patch one?)
Thanks in advance.
(see I told you I was techno idiot)
Spearthrower Jan 05, 2007, 03:01 AM Extract to the folder - there's no need to cut and paste.
TAfirehawk Jan 06, 2007, 12:48 PM For those counting, we are over 3,500 Full v2.0 downloads and somewhere between 2,000-3,500 Patch v2.1 downloads :D
Kaiser Franz Jan 06, 2007, 09:27 PM OK - quick question about world builder -- it seems that my map has no aluminium - I need to add it. When I try to go to worldbuilder a pop up window asks if I'm sure - I answer "yes" - the little wheel turns about three times then turns back to the pointer and suddenly the screen goes blank and visa exits - a window pops up asking if I want to send an error report to microsoft - which naturally, I don't. -- Any idea what might be going on and how do I fix it? -- By the way - I reinstalled Visa after this occured with no change.

Very strange, we go into WB all the time....no problems.
Must be trying to access something that isn't there, so a re-install should have worked, very odd.
Try a different game as that particular game may be bugged.
alinurdengizich Jan 09, 2007, 09:40 AM hi everyone:

Others have had issues with non-English systems....which we don't support, sorry.
I will say you can take the EXE and right-click and Extract (I have WinRAR and 7Zip installed) and do things manually...be sure to do the Registry Fix too.
alinurdengizich Jan 10, 2007, 08:12 AM ok I copied all the assets folder into Warlords/Mods/Visa I did the registry fix . So should I play this with a scenerio ? It's working but when I started a custom game I only saw the map gfx on the map and the units . I couldn't see the interface(button etc.) Thanks for your help!

It is not a scenario...you need to go to Advanced and load the mod from the list or edit the INI as directed in the first post.
alinurdengizich Jan 11, 2007, 07:36 AM Thank you very much, you helped a lot, some modders here aren't as responsible and helpful as you.. Goodluck on this great mod.

maxbjr Mar 24, 2007, 05:12 PM will ViSa 3.0 be compatable with windows vista ? ViSa 2.2 isn't, it loads but I get no interface on the unit screen.
TAfirehawk Mar 24, 2007, 08:37 PM will ViSa 3.0 be compatable with windows vista ? ViSa 2.2 isn't, it loads but I get no interface on the unit screen.
mrgenie is developing it on Vista actually, so it is safe to say it works just fine. We also have testers on Vista.
maxbjr Mar 25, 2007, 05:22 PM Ah good, I got ViSa to work on Vista,... I had to hunt for awhile to find the warlords cache is, since there is no docs & settings folder in Vista. However now I'm running into a memory allocation error,... which kicks me out of the game. It happens during saving, (either auto save or regular saving.) Any way to disable auto save in Visa? I got to 1070AD before I couldn't go on anymore.
For those who are playing on Vista, I found you have to completely unistall the game, saves, cache, mods, ...everything. Then re-install the game, (both Civ 4, patch for Civ4, Warlords, patch for warlords, then your mods. After that it works great, except for the memory error during saves.
Alondin Mar 25, 2007, 06:41 PM Maxbjr,
The MAF comes from a bug inside Warlords, that is aggravated by the
large save files ViSa generates. However, some wonderful programmers
have FIXED THE MAF bug on Version 3.0!!! So, wait a week and
you should be happy. Well, happier!
Alondin
maxbjr Mar 25, 2007, 08:41 PM I thought that's what the problem was. I was wondering/confused why the MAF never happened on my old computor w/ Windows XP, but started happening with my new computor w/ Vista. Anyway I thought I should let people know about it, in case I found a Warlords/ViSa problem running it on Windows Vista. :)
TAfirehawk Mar 25, 2007, 08:48 PM It seems the newer computers get the MAF more often and faster....don't ask me why as I am not the programmer here ;)
The MAF isn't fixed, it is in the Firaxis EXE which no modder has access to....we have a workaround by Nev.
WGW Mar 27, 2007, 01:49 PM cant we just all sign some petition so firaxis gives us the stuff to repair it.
i bet there are lots of guys out here who really want to do it and for free to!
Alondin Mar 27, 2007, 03:56 PM WGW,
That's been tried. Doesn't seem to work.
TA Firehawk is technically correct, what we have is a somewhat inelegant
work around, but if it doesn't blow up I consider it 'fixed'!

Volapyk Apr 07, 2007, 02:03 PM I'm sad to say I didnt pick this mod up before v3, realy great. I do how ever seem to have run into a problem doing my first game. After around like 200 turns, I opened up the foreign advisor page to see if anyone had anything willing to trade to me. But after a few seconds the page just vanished and I could see the normal game screen, but the game was paused, like it usaly it is when you have opened up one of the advisor pages. I tried to alt-tab out to windows and open the game again, and there it was the advisor page was back, for a magnificent 5 seconds, and is vanished again. Now I could keep minimizing and reopening it agan and do my works in short period of times at a time, but that does seem beyond my patience. If anyone have either encountered this problem, or know a solution, basicly any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Not sure what is wrong with your computer, but it works fine on mine so it must be something specific to your system, not ViSa.

Sounds like a graphical driver problem with any of the graphics in that screen..you might wanna tweak around on your allocated video memory or lower graphical settings in the game

check the FAQ about the MAF guide..
with Windows Vista, you are doomed!!! Vista enhanced the MAF like crazy! you can't even play warlords large 12 civs a complete game and already running into a maf without mod..at least not with graphical settings at high level, didn't test low settings...so any mod, especially ViSa will be shot down by the MAF bug
maxbjr Apr 18, 2007, 02:27 PM Actually with Vista, a duo core pent 2.28g processor & 4Mg RAM, ViSa and Warlords in general works great. The AI's turn time is about 8-12 secs at the most. The thing is, you can't play with more then a standard map and 10 Civs or a small map & 15 CIVs, or you'll get to the 12K limit on saves that will trigger a MAF.

so it doesn't work great!! I tested the game with vista on my CPU with only 2 gigs RAM. that the speed is good i don't talk about performance.it goes MAF pretty simple and early in game. i tested it with large map and 12civs. Without ViSa!! just default warlords goes MAF..even earlier then with ViSa mod loaded, for whatever reason. this behaviour might be different on your 4gigabyte CPU..but anyway, i like to play large/huge games with many civs..and since i go MAF while still having enough free RAM, i really hope firaxis will fix it. but that's why i play on winXP..can play alot bigger games without MAF then :) on win2000 even huge games with 30civs :)

maxbjr Apr 20, 2007, 10:27 AM LAMO, so true :crazyeye: . The biggest problem with Windows Visa is that you really need double the recommended hardware requirements to actually run it well.
apelsinlax Apr 25, 2007, 07:31 PM I heard about the great NCsaver for those who does not enjoy our good old friend MAF.
Are you going to release this great feature seperate from VISA? I would like to use it also when I am not playing VISA but maybe this has already been done without me finding it?
Thanks in advance and congratulations to a great mod!

#define NCSaver; in the defines.h file
and then search all the files for:
#ifdef NCSaver
.....
#endif
just copy paste these..
if you don't know what you are doing, can still do it, because it's made very simple ...copy paste the code should work

Thanks for the help. It is appreciated. However the explanation was a bit over my head, to say the least. I know basically nothing of these kind of stuff :crazyeye:
It would be great with a better explanation if possible. If not I will just have to wait for a separate release or something. :)
Bastian-Bux Apr 27, 2007, 05:46 AM Its a SDK modification. Done by someone outside of the ViSa team afaik. If he isn't releasing it as a separate modification (yet), the ViSa team has no right to do so.
Away from that taketounwanted send you to the right place: you have to search the ViSa SDK source code for the code snippets that handle NCSaver, and include those snippets in the vanilla SDK source. Compile and you are set.
As taketounwanted mentioned, its soo easy that you can do it without knowing C++, using mere intelligence and logic as replacement skill. ;) Of course you need to be able to use the search and copy functions of a notepad plus be able to compile the SDK source.
Else you could wait till the programmer that made the NCSaver mod releases it precompiled.
taketounwanted Apr 27, 2007, 08:51 AM Right, the NCSaver is a code from NEV, ViSa has the right to use the code, but all the credits go to NEV and ViSa doesn't release any code seperated from the mod!
However, everyone is free to use/fix/modify whatever he/she wants...but support is only on ViSa itself, not on coding or anything else..
If you change stuff, you most likely loose support ..but the "bad PR" guy from the http://visa.family-veldman.com will try to help you if you have any more questions, just mail him at the webmasters email listed on the page there...but im sure you won't get any guarantees on help..use the email at your own risk so to speak :P

Bad PR is right... :dubious:
I've PMed Firehawke already with my views on this, so I won't be a bore about it here except to say that as a Soldier myself I find the statement pretty fricking insulting, and I think it should be sh!tcanned at the first opportunity.
It reflects pretty badly on the mod team, and the mod as a whole. I'm not even going to begin to comment on the whole "Speak for yourself @sshole" feelings it evokes when I read it. :trouble:

aldaek Apr 28, 2007, 11:17 PM I had recently had to reinstall windows on my computer and Civilization 4 Warlords v2.08 with the VISA 2.x works fine. But when I downloaded the main EXE, it could not find my install. I rather not reinstall Civ 4, the patch for Civ 4, then Warlords, the path for warlords just to install this mod.
Is there any alternative download, or what Reg Key does it look for so I can add it into the system to say, "oh, he does have the valid patch!"?

TAfirehawk Apr 29, 2007, 07:25 AM I had recently had to reinstall windows on my computer and Civilization 4 Warlords v2.08 with the VISA 2.x works fine.
V3 does not patch V2....and we have the installer setup that way to avoid problems.
The Reg Key is on the ViSa Website in the FAQ section I believe....but that won't help you unless you install V3.
Where can I obtain the (C++) sources?
V3.00 SDK does not exist (don't think so) as we are on to finishing up V3.10, which is located on SourceForge.net
Uncle Anton Apr 30, 2007, 06:36 AM As I said in the PM....what in the world are you talking about??????
Check with your webdev Firehawke. Up until yesterday for at least a day or so, the website's opening page had some vitriolic spiel about (paraphrasing) "sparing a thought for soldiers of <Insert Nations of Coalition of the Willing Here> who are fighting against the scourge of Islam which is insipidly creeping into society everywhere and it's the new Nazism, and thanks by the way to the USA who freed my country the Netherlands from the Nazi's etc"
I don't know who maintains the ViSa website for you, but I wasn't the only one who saw it either so if said webdev is shrugging their shoulders, then your webdev is either lying, or your site has been the subject of vandalism. I'm sure if I tried hard enough I could find a cached version of the page on my HD for you to look at too.
Thankfully, the offending message has now been removed.
keldath Apr 30, 2007, 07:44 AM edit:
not an offenssive messege - no hard was intended,
but in my belive shouldnt have been put in the front page .
oh well...its over now...
Kaiser Franz Apr 30, 2007, 10:27 PM Actually -- I didn't find the message offending at all -- I believe in supporting the military action against terrorists - and in supporting the forces that are bringing the fight to them.
Had the Terrorists been Episcopalian, Hindu, Baptist, Methodist, Bhudist or Mormon for that matter, I would see no problem in shining the spot light on the offending parties. If one is falsy singled out there is reason for offense to be taken but not when the truth is told. One need not hide from facts - they are what they are and they are irefutable. The local Lutheran or Presbyterian churches are not sending out suicide bombers to my knowledge.
Clearly, not all members of any faith are to be held responsible for the actions of radicals or extremists- and the moment an Episcopalian - which happens to be my faith- straps a bomb on himslef and kills innocent people - men, women and children - please let me know and I will be the very first to condem that act and all other such acts - and I would certainly not visit or support a church that has a significant number of their Clergy advocate such action.
Now -- Enough has been said on this subject - for those that were offended by a statement of support for our troops in a battle against some of the worst evil the world has ever seen - I feel bad for you and hope you never have to fight against terrorism in your own back yard.
Uncle Anton - no one lied - the blurb that so offened you was simply removed - I didn't post it - had I done so it would still be there! Perhaps you need to reevaluate your tag line -- the web site blurb shot straight from the heart and certainly didn't make a mess of it !
I too am a former soldier - having proudly served in the United States Army - 10th Special Forces -Flint Kasern - Bad Tolz, Germany 1963 to 1965 -- I am proud of my service and I support our troops.
Let this be the end of the subject ! This forum is for the enjoyment of ViSa_V3 and the follow on updates and patches -- let's keep on topic and enjoy the game -- afterall - that is why we are here !

Hi Kaiser...
I don't think anyone has a problem with supporting the troops, many of us here likely have friends and family over there - I do.
I just thought the references to a religion being what needs to be fought as opposed to terrorists or extremism of any sort from any religion were a tad off (we enlist to defend our countries, not to defend one religion against another), so I'll agree to disagree with you there as to how well that blog "grouped" so to speak. Without allowing this to go further offtopic, I'll simply qualify my earlier remarks - I hold that not Islam, nor any single religion has a monopoly on fundamentalism or evil - take a look at Oklahoma City, terrorist activity in Spain over the last 20 years, or some of the problems faced in South America and you'll see my point there.
And I never accused anyone of lying, I expressed it hypothetically. This has nothing to do with covering my ass - If I wanted to come out and call someone a liar or a bigot or a moron what's to stop me from doing it... this is the friggin internet... I wouldn't be the first person to gob off now would I? Example - I don't agree with you about the nature of the comment. Doesn't mean I don't respect your point of view on it. If I thought you or anyone else was a liar or an idiot, trust me it'd be an Open Net. As it was I couldn't be sure that there wasn't some reasonably innocuous (spell) cause behind it so I left it hypothetical. Indeed Firehawke pointed out that there also could've been translation issues. The author's English is almost certainly better than my Dutch, but Firehawke was quite right to point out that it only takes one slip up in translation to completely change the context of what's being said.
I had genuine concerns about what action the Forum Admins may have taken against a direct link on these forums to a website which may have breached legislation in one or more countries. He's since advised me thankfully that I worried over very little.
If I've given anyone the wrong idea then I'm truly very sorry. But I'm not interested in reading some anti-denominational statement - Now that I've qualified my remarks and response, I won't be commenting any further on it in this thread. If anyone feels aggrieved by anything I've said they can PM me and I'll be more than receptive to anything anyone has to say.
I couldn't agree more that we need to keep those in harms' way in our thoughts and prayers while they get the job done regardless of where that job is or the politics or religion behind it. Let's leave politics and religion out of these forums, and just play the damned game. :)
TAfirehawk May 01, 2007, 04:54 PM Guys....STOP THIS CONVERSATION!!!!!!
OR else the Admins will be asked to come in here and clean house.....and I won't be held responsible for the results.
BTW, the CivFanatics Admins can do nothing about links we post here....except remove a post or ban an account. Let me worry about ViSa and this is THE END of such off-topic conversations in this forum.
keldath May 02, 2007, 06:36 AM i second that :)
TAfirehawk May 06, 2007, 08:39 PM For those with 512MB RAM or less, you can find a special Installer here (http://visa.family-veldman.com/download.htm).
I don't recommend playing with less than 1GB RAM, but to each his own :D
Galadrion May 09, 2007, 05:59 PM I've noticed that the patch version 1 (presumably, to take the game to ViSa ver. 3.1) has a link available on the ViSa site, but I keep getting a screen telling me that a password is needed. Is it still being beta-tested, or did the password protection just not get removed before the link was placed?

Its almost ready, we are having problems with the installer. Basically old farts like me couldnt figure out how to install it if the preferred procedure didnt work.
TAfirehawk May 10, 2007, 06:40 PM Patch v3.10 is NOW Released!!!
Download Here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=4831)
TAfirehawk May 11, 2007, 05:21 AM The patch ZIP file needs to be unzipped along with following these directions:
http://visa.family-veldman.com/patchhelp.htm
1. Download the ViSa v3.10 patch (recommended to save on your Desktop)
2. Find the file on your hard drive that you used to install the original ViSa Expansion Pack 3 (should be “VISA_CIV4mod_setup.exe” or “Setup.exe” or "Setup256.exe", file name depends on which host/link/version you used for the original v3.00 download) and extract (not execute!) the file (Recommended 'path' is your Desktop).
If you know how to do that, you can skip steps #3 to #5 and move to step #6, if not, proceed with the next step
3. Install either WinRAR or 7zip if you don't have any of them installed on your computer
4. (Skip this step if you have installed 7Zip and move to the next step), if you installed WinRAR proceed as follow:
Right click the “VISA_CIV4mod_setup.exe” or “Setup.exe” or "Setup256.exe" and select "extract here" (as shown on the picture)
Or "Extract files..." if you want an alternative directory
In dialog box that opens, select a ‘Destination Path’ and click Ok (Recommended 'path' is your Desktop)
5. (Skip this step if you have installed WinRAR), if you installed 7Zip proceed as follow:
Right click the “VISA_CIV4mod_setup.exe” or “Setup.exe” or "Setup256.exe" and select "Extract Here" (as shown on the picture)
Or "Extract files..." if you want an alternative directory
In dialog box that opens, select a ‘Destination Path’ and click Ok(Recommended 'path' is your Desktop)
6. Once the files have been extracted, you can double-click the file downloaded in step 1, "ViSa_v3_update.msp" to apply the ViSa Expansion Pack 3 patch 1
7. If you get a message as shown on the right, click the "Browse" button and select your ‘Destination Path’ from Step #4 or #5 (Recommended 'path' is your Desktop)
Note:
This help applies to both the "setup256.exe" (256MB RAM installation) and the "setup.exe / VISA_CIV4mod_setup.exe” (512MB RAM installation)
sovarn May 11, 2007, 05:31 AM Thanks for this.
Galadrion May 11, 2007, 11:06 AM Had a slight bit of difficulty with the installation until I did some further reading. It seems that I installed the very earliest version of ViSa 3.o and never bothered updating it - which made the patch installer unhappy. I did finally do that reading though, and in case anyone else is having the same problem, here's how I fixed it: I downloaded the newer version of the 3.0 installer and then followed the install instructions from that point, using the newer version of ViSa 3.0.
Haven't gotten far enough in the new game to try any of my items of special concern yet (migrants in particular), but that will come.

WE did work on the migrant and hopefully its working ok, you can set the amount of population it moves thru the ini.
Galadrion May 11, 2007, 03:46 PM (Y)ou can set the amount of population it moves thru the ini.
*Chuckle* I'm more concerned with it working at all - there's something very annoying about a unit which will take up the building resources, move where you want it to, and then not do anything at all...
I'm particularly interested in its potential when combined with sea cities and gold-rushing buildings... Powerhouse cities at sea, in relatively short time.
Alondin May 11, 2007, 03:47 PM How does the release version compare to the current SVN 172?
Is it the same thing, or do I need to download / install the released 3.1?
Alondin the Curious
rockinroger May 11, 2007, 03:53 PM @Alondin svn 172 is the same or almost the same. No big deference for the beta testers. 172 mostly is about the installer
Kanin May 11, 2007, 11:51 PM Where is the list of changes in the 3.1 patch?
Why do you recomend extracting to desktop? The desktop is not a temp directory for junk files.
Kanin May 11, 2007, 11:58 PM ViSa_v3_patch1.msp
Why do you add clutter in file names? The v and the patch are redundant. The file should have been named ViSa_3.1.msp or similar. The overly complicated install and patch routines and the frequently weird file names gives a very unserious impression.
noid May 12, 2007, 02:28 AM are saves from visa 3.0 compatible with visa 3.1 ?
kristopherb May 12, 2007, 03:39 PM do you place it in the mods folder?
maxbjr May 12, 2007, 04:53 PM I installed the full 3.1 ver,.. everything works great. One thing I noticed, the CPU runs it's military alot more intellengently. Took me over half a game to figure out how to deal with that lol :)
rockinroger May 13, 2007, 05:58 AM are saves from visa 3.0 compatible with visa 3.1 ?
As a general rule saves are not compatible. Try a saved game and if you just get the never ending spinner of death, then no its not save compatible.

Because for most casual computer users that is what they know....it is RECOMMENDED but not required...geesh....
ViSa_v3_patch1.msp

You can't seriously be complaining how we organize our file names?!?!?!?!?!?!
If so, please go play another mod.....
do you place it in the mods folder?
No, the installer/patcher does all that so 99% of all ViSa 3 installs are correct with no user option for accidentally putting it in a wrong directory.
TAfirehawk May 15, 2007, 08:16 AM Sorry I haven't been here folks, but I am on vacation out of town.
I did update the link on CivFanatics to make the full installer v3.10 instead of v3.00 for those that can't get the patch installed properly. NOTE - you have to uninstall v3.00 to install the full version of v3.10

That is weird, the file is on a major web hosting companies web site with HUGE bandwidth.....
I am getting 255KB/sec....23 minute download time right now, so it must be your side, not the web host.

I have no idea what you are saying in any of that
But the file isn't on CivFanatics, their limit is 10MB unless I ask for special permission, which its just easier to use dreamhosters.com
I have done nothing different from the other 8500+ downloads of the v3 mod.

Never mind i got it now :D

taketounwanted Jul 22, 2007, 05:45 AM So when we could expect a version for Warlords 2.13???
I got word that it won't be this week, but by the next weekend at least the SDK should have been updated for 2.13...guess we can expect an update either that weekend or the following week :D
TAfirehawk Jul 22, 2007, 05:46 AM So when we could expect a version for Warlords 2.13???
Not sure....we are working on a new BTS project that expands on Impaler's CCCP DLL project, bringing the entire Civ4 modding community together.
Quetz Jul 24, 2007, 09:06 PM Why can't I install this mod? I can't even download it. Every way I try to access it, inlcuding straight extraction, says access is denied, and AVG reports it as a trojan. Is there any chance of a straight .rar download?

No it must be installed for the registry keys or it won't run correctly.
You must not have Admin rights on your computer.....never heard of this issue and there certainly is NOT a trojan or virus in the official installer you get from CFC.

As stated here....we are working on it and have a new DLL for testing....so hopefully soon for a v2.13 version of ViSa v3.
TAfirehawk Jul 29, 2007, 07:34 AM We are in final testing of v3.25, which is compatible with v2.13 of Warlords. It will be released this week sometime.
AlexTheTall Aug 07, 2007, 10:39 AM Aaaah!
Now i understand why ViSa doesn't work on my Warlord... The version for Warlord 2.1.3 isn't out yet!
Sinapus Aug 11, 2007, 10:57 PM Any news on the 3.25 release?

Well, the 29th was about two weeks ago, so I'm figuring either they hit a snag or real life intruded on their efforts. Real life tends to do that often. ;)

taketounwanted Aug 13, 2007, 01:07 PM the patch has been uploaded to the server...can expect an active link any time Firehawk approves it..won't be a patch though..as with the latest release, full install only!

You expected this to be up 35 minutes after that was posted.....:crazyeye:
Not to mention this might not be the final v3.25 version as game testing isn't complete.
Don't worry, when the final release of ViSa v3 is ready, it will be posted at CFC.

Nah, take your time :)
TAfirehawk Aug 17, 2007, 06:08 PM ViSa v3.25 is available now!!!!!
It has numerous updates but the most important is Warlords v2.1.3.0 compatibility.

Finally... I love you Taf!
AlexTheTall Aug 17, 2007, 07:38 PM Alright 2 problems:
First they are still trying to make me download the patch # 2.0.8 (so i skip this because i have 2.1.3)
and
they are saying: Could not access network locations /mods/ViSa_3
Help please, cause i can still play :(! And i try everything on your help section for version 3.10!
Ronnoc Aug 17, 2007, 10:16 PM I have run into problems. I had to completely uninstall everything and completely reinstall. I reinstalled vanilla Civ and the patches, then Warlords and the patches, 2.08 then 2.13.
I then load Visa 3.25 and it keeps telling me to clear the Warlord cache. Where is that?
Then it wants the custom assets cleared????
Then when it launches I get this:
"The application failed to start because D3DX9_32.DLL was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."
Can anyone help, please? Thanks.
Tried uninstalling everything, Firaxis stuff won't uninstall unless you go to control panel. Visa will not allow an unintstall either through the control panel or through the program menu. I keep getting: Could not access network locations /mods/ViSa_3
gegabitelord Aug 18, 2007, 04:27 AM @Ronnoc
D3DX9_32.DLL is a DLL that comes with the DX9c august update so you can fix that by downloading the newest version of DX9c and here are the directions to the folders you want:
C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Application Data\My Games\Warlords\cache<---------
C:\Documents and Settings\user name\My Documents\My Games\Warlords\CustomAssets<----------

The installer takes care of those file locations to be deleted, so you don't have to worry about it.
If you can't uninstall old ViSa, that means you manually deleted it....not much you can do about the control panel icon. I haven't fixed this problem myself so not sure the exact steps, but you probably have to get into the registry if the ViSa installer won't work for you.

I will double check myself by downloading the file from CFC as well.....
EDIT
The file is just fine, it uninstalled and installed on Warlords v2.1.3.0 with no problems.
AlexTheTall Aug 18, 2007, 08:52 AM Alright Taf and for the "Could not access network locations /mods/ViSa_3" I've tried everything you ask for on your website and i can't do anything!
Note: I redownload the game 4 times... :S
Ronnoc Aug 18, 2007, 09:50 AM I dealt with the D3DX9_32.DLL problem by downloading an update from MS.
When I reinstalled 3.25 it asked if I wanted to remove the old or repair the previous 3.25 install. I removed it. I then reinstalled again and the 3.25 install worked and now all is well. Thanks.

Ronnoc Aug 18, 2007, 03:25 PM Thank you TA and the rest of the team for this, I really do appreciate it. Frankly, were it not for the mods like this one that add extensive items and play to Civ, I probably would not play vanilla Civ. Great work, makes the game be what it should be when it comes from the designers. They make a nice vanilla flavor, but the hot fudge, whipped topping, and cherry make it really worthwhile. Thanks again.
Any estimation on release for the mod for BtW? I have no plans to buy BtS until there is a mod ready for it. Thanks.
AlexTheTall Aug 18, 2007, 05:04 PM Alright, to inform everyone about my problem i found the solution. I went to the EB Games where i bought Civilization 4 Gold Edition last week and ask him to get all the game box separate (So i got Civ 4, Walords and BtS) for the same price (maybe 6$ cdn more).
Now ViSa works well on Warlords. So i guess the problem is: ViSa isn't compatible with Civilization 4 Gold Edition! It's a bit weird, but well... I CAN PLAY NOW!

As has been discussed....read my sig and ViSa is no more....
The BtS project is the WoC, which should be out in 1-2 months and include every available mod for BtS that is modular at the time.
civ4ludo Aug 19, 2007, 12:53 AM How to solve init troubles with d3dx9_32.dll
As I installed the WL 2.13 patch and then ViSa 3.25 I got a horrible piece of news:
The computer was telling me that d3dx9_32.dll was missing and that it was possibly due to an error in the installation. The "solution" that it suggested was a reinstall.
Silly me, I proceeded to reinstall Civ4, WL, patch 2.13 and ViSa 3.25.
But... the same message came up. I came to the CF Forum, and right away I could see that there was a thread for this: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=232577
which pointed to the right solution, which is to download this damn missing d3dx9_32.dll from an appropriate location.
Maybe you could put this somewhere in the ViSa thread to warn people that they should not reinstall everything, but rather follow a simpler route.
Thank you for a wonderful update to the mod!
Arlborn Aug 20, 2007, 02:33 AM uhuh, BTS bringing me back to action :P
I see the things went good around here hehe!
I wish good luck to everybody participating of WoC! I might give a try when it is ready :)
taketounwanted Aug 21, 2007, 01:51 AM Hi Arlborn, already working on it...and unlike any other mod, this time everything will be done in the SDk, and forget about the pythons! :)
pythons will only be there for graphics, and possible user input/output functionality..core codes will be pure SDK to keep the game fast and reliable!
as for functionality, a complete new genuine city radius implementation is added now. There is no:"either city radius =2 or extended =3" option anymore(personally i don't like the either this or that option anyway)
instead, it's added as a module(copying out the module or better, using the new implementations which impaler is working on now to just put any module to 1=true or 0=false to disable or enable them) so you can either load something, or completely leave it out of the game if not wanted...the original city radius (dunno who wrote it) was hard coded 2city radius or 3city radius.
the new city radius implementation now included in WoC has several agorithms:
- calculate the actual plotvalues properly from radius=0 up to radius=larger then gamemaps..so noone has to bother about larger radiusses(could be interesting for people who like to play 1city only games or people who prefer less cities in a game, therefore larger cities)
- city radius can be set a MAX value of radius=3, but you don't start the game with radius 3..instead, at the beginning your city only has a radius of 1=9plots for your citizens to work on..when you build i.e. granaries, they enlarge your radius for your citizens to work on to radius=2(21plots)..later in the game, when you build hospitals, your cities can use the max radius of 3 for your citizens to work on(37plots) or if you set max =4 (57plots) or max=5(81plots) etc..it's now unlimited and automatically calc's the proper values so any scenario/map maker can use WoC as he/she pleases..or any player as well..
you might wanna checkout the new city radius modification, and of course, everything is optional..if you set any tag to 0 = disable this function.
tags are automatically set to 0 when they are missing.
personally i like the (radius grow by buildings) but you could easily add to have the city radius grow as well with technologies, wonders, etc..those codes aren't added right now...but, the core is there, just some minor SDK tweaks are needed if anyone wants to add that ass well..
also, in WoC we abandon the while ini settings thing..
mods used to be:"SDK->python call->read ini->python call->SDK"
we now have this method:"SDK->read XML"
all xml's are in their corresponding module, there will be a general XML to either enable/disable a specific module, any settings of the specific modules will be inside the modular dir..this will be more easier for players/scenariomakers to work with and find the tweaks they want to do themself..
we will make a stand alone program(civ3 modintereface alike) to cope with this stuff ..but that's an issue for later when the project has evolved a little bit :)
cimmerin Aug 27, 2007, 08:47 PM The game starts but as soon as the game loads I get this message
Failed to allocate video memory. Please try reducing your graphics settings.
File:\Source\main\Civilization4\SDKs\Gamebryo2_0\C oreLibs\NiDX9RenderedTextureData.cpp,Line:170
I tried reducing the graphics settings but to no avail.
I have a NVIDIA Quadro PCI-E Series card.
After I click OK, I get a Visual C++ Runtime error.
I have also installed the latest Div9 from Microsoft. What gives?
Thanks

Well that is not a gamer video card but for video professionals or CAD work....I would love to have one in my work laptop for AutoCAD
Obviously the necessary features of DirectX are not supported....turn your graphics all the way down and disable everything....I get Civ to run on my old ATI laptop that way.
taketounwanted Aug 28, 2007, 02:34 AM as the error tells you...this is a rendering issue of textures(not enough memory or just some troubles with your card not supporting some features of the DX)..
if lowering all settings doesn't work(disable everything as well to start with)
you might wanna try this setting
GUIManagedTextures = 1
or try the http://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/Quadro_Certified/160.02/160.02_quadro_winxp2k_english.exe driver(assuming you use winxp or 2k)
cimmerin Aug 28, 2007, 01:10 PM I tried both reducing the graphics and a new driver and the game still crashes. Weird, the game worked fine before ViSa.
Installing ViSa is making my graphics card obsolete?

We don't do anything special graphics wise in ViSa....and your video card is most certainly not meant for gaming....

it's a rendering issue of textures..this can have many reasons, even small and silly 1second fix issues. Hard for us to figure out what is wrong, but you can switch on the logs, and check them to figure out at which spot the game errors.
Generally, your card is as firehawk said NOT a gamers card! You dont buy a formula 1 car to drive through the woods! It might work up to some point..but no guarantees your formula 1 racing car won't crash in the woods.
Ropher Sep 01, 2007, 01:24 PM Downloaded 3.25. It crashes consistently with Large Pangea SmartMap if Graphics Level is set to High, but works like a charm on Medium.
I love the version with the exception of one change: the sky blue, white cloud, white sun background that now shows up instead of the former pale boring tan background on the Visapedia and Statistics Graph page. It makes the sky blue links, white text, and blue graph lines exceedingly difficult to see or read.
Surely there must be a simple file somewhere I can change to return this graphic to its former boring, but usable background. Any advice on this matter would be most appreciated.
Thanks!

As is posted, delete the Blue Marble FPK file to return to 'normal' graphics.

Yes, but I'd like to keep all the graphics except for the background used for the graph and visapedia. Is there any way to edit the FPK to modify just that single graphic?
fjband Sep 02, 2007, 02:18 PM First time poster:
I'm having some issues with the Gold version of the game and installing this Mod. A previous poster mentioned this, but I didn't see a solution posted. He just bought all the individual games and it worked like a charm. Unfortunately I don't think that's an option for me due to the length of time since I bought it. Anyone have any thoughts?
Specifically I'm having two problems running "VISA_CIV4mod_setup_v325", potentially related to each other:
1) When I attempt to load Visa from the .exe, it takes me to the pre-reqs screen that asks me to download a patch from firaxis, despite already having 2.13 Warlords installed. When trying the patch, it says "The Setup has detected that no version of Civilizations 4 - Warlords is installed". Is anyone else having this problem? Is it an issue with Civ 4 Gold looking different than std. Civ 4 Warlords to the mod and the patches?
2) When I tell it to ignore the upgrade and continue Visa installation then tells me it "could not access network location \Mods\Visa_v3", and so aborts the installation. Do I have to run the exe from a specific folder? Is there something else I need to do to get this to run?
I'm really excited about trying this mod out. Mods in other games have made them much more enjoyable and I'm expecting the same from this one based on all the posts I've read. I'm hoping someone can help.

I wish I had some solution for this but I have no idea what Firaxis is doing with the Civ Gold to make it not install correctly. I have to assume there is some registry problem.
rockinroger Sep 02, 2007, 07:09 PM @fjband Where is your warlords directory located? Its usually C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Warlords, is that where yours is located for gold?
fjband Sep 03, 2007, 07:56 AM File Location is "C:\Program Files\2K Games\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4 Gold\Warlords".

No you have to uninstall and reinstall to that new folder path....at least that is our guess....we really don't know at this point....

Psyringe Sep 11, 2007, 07:12 PM Is there any kind of ETA for a BTS version of Visa?
There won't be a BTS version of ViSa. The ViSa team will do a different project (similar, but different) for BtS. Check out the "World of Civilization" link in TAFirehawk's sig some posts above.
TAfirehawk Sep 11, 2007, 08:28 PM Yeah....Modular XML is the name of the game....
We are running into some roadblocks but at the same time have found the long way around.....now just hoping for a nice solution and then we should have a WoC version out soon.
andien Jan 16, 2008, 09:11 AM i have the same problem with Civ 4 Gold
the error happens because civ4 gold has no installdir-key in the windows registry, so the setup finds no folder
hope that helps, if you need the new keys or other infos, just pm me
is it possible that you release a zip version of the mod or that the user can choose a folder if civ4 is not detected?
