I plan on replacing one of my hard drives with a newer larger one. I have some games installed on it. Can I just copy them to the new hard drive and give it the same letter of the old one once I removed it, or do I have to reinstall them again?

If you place them in excactly the same drive letter and directory, I can't see any reason why it wouldn't work.

Most games have a registry entry, or a few. If you can find those and copy them over too and then return them to the new registry, i dont see why it wouldnt work...

That sounds like too much work.

Nope, that will not work. I've tried it before as well. You just have to back up your save files/mods, and reinstall the games onto the other HD.
The games were programmed to install on the HD you selected, changing the game's target path will not work, since it will trigger a 'no-play' system.

But technically if the install paths are the same it should work. Chukchi what are some of the games you want to transfer? Maybe ive transfered them as well, and alal my transfers of such have been successful

The registry entries will not matter because he isn't going to change the drive containing them. If you replace the drive containing the targets of the registry entries making sure the data mentioned in the registry will be found where registry says it will be found there's no problem.
Copy the entire content of the old drive to the new one first. Then drop the old drive and set the new drive letter the same as the old was and you'll be fine.
