View Full Version : Build me a computer with 1000€

Things I don't need:
-Keyboard
-Rodent
-Monitor
-Speakers
-DVD Drives

Memory seems expensive ATM so it might be wise to wait until prices drop. (if they're going to drop?)
I could do it all by myself but I'm not very familiar with the latest hardware so I need a bit of advice...

Give it your best shot...

Rodent? And do you have any idea what you want it for? It would be easy to build one for home use, but a gaming one would be a bit harder to assemble for that price

I guess, you mean a mouse, right?

I guess, you mean a mouse, right?

Indeed I do. In finland it's common to to refer computer mouse as "rat" or "rodent".

I'm going to do a fair share of gaming on it. It should be easily upgradeable. For games I've mainly used 1024x768 wihout AA or AF. I don't mind bad visuals as long the game runs ok and gameplay doesn't suffer from poor graphics. Intel core duo 2 E6300 would probably be my choice for processor, but I WILL overclock it so any mobo will not do.

Case should look "clean". Any so called cool details just hurt my eye. I like Lian-Li cases but they're way out of my price range.

This I like. But it comes with a 130€ pricetag without PSU.

PSU should withstand a few upgrades and overclocking. This is the part where I will not go for cheap.

I can add HD's and RAM later when my budget permits so they're not top priority right now.

Where on earth do you live ?

Over here with 1000 euro you can probably buy the most expensive computer you can find in stores (laptops don't count) and then have some money to spare, especially if you don't need a monitor. And things are more expensive here.

Total comes out to 827.98$. Now you might be in Europe, jusding by the want for Euro's and I dont know what Newegg's shipping is like to Europe, but you might want to look for similar components. Mind you this system is without a case, PSU, monitor, HD or any other apparel that you might want to customize yourself

Something like that would total a bit over 900€ here. Something my budget doesn't stretch to. I can't get a case, PSU and HD for 100€

The memory here is killer expensive right now. Dual 1GB sticks total just a bit under 300€

I'm also a wee bit suspicious about the nForce 570 chipset. Not many manufacturers seem to carry it. It's very new, or there's something fishy about it?

A bit misleading to say HD was not top priority. I DO need a new one, but it doesn't need to be the biggest around. I can replace it/add more drives later. Same goes for RAM.

I live in one of the most expensive countries on earth. Get me a computer for 1000€ from there and smuggle it past the customs somehow. :p

Bah, the finnish custom patrols are n00bs. let me guess: night vision cameras ? Ha! They say we are a backward country. Rabid dogs roaming across the borders are much more effective, less power drain too. Good thing we're in the EU now so we can teach you the basics. :p

But i was refering to stickciv ... "a gaming computer hard to get with 1000 euro" ??? :crazyeye:

A gaming comp that is top of the line is hard to do away with even 2000$, at least round here, i estimate that to be around 1450Euro so yeah, id say its pretty hard to get a top of the line for under 1000. Whenever i refer to a gaming computer, i refer to a high end system, but thats just me. A midrange comp you can easily pull off with 1000Euro though, so I guess thats what you were thinking of.

I've never had a high-end machine. I just settle for lower graphics settings and older games. I'm looking something that would be at least twice as fast than my current computer.

Well As i had put up there, the system there is a quality one, but you can easily cut the RAM in half for the time being. All the other things will be a bit expensive to upgrade in only a few months so I advise to either settle on them or something cheaper.

I thought about getting 1GB of memory now and an upgrade to 2GB later. The problem is that I want to use dual-channel and it would require dual 512MB sticks. Of course there's no problem getting dual 1GB sticks later totaling to 3GB of memory. And I hope memory prices drop by then.

Digicomp doesn't carry too much quality memory. Corsair and Kingston are the only quality brands and the selection is limited.

How does Kingston 2x1024MB 750MHZ DDR2 DIMM (4-4-4-12) sound? 253€

My other choice would be getting 2x Corsair DDR2 1GB 800MHZ CL5 PRO chips, but they would total 330€

Kingston doesn't sound bad but I wonder how it will perform when I start OC'ing. If they really can deliver 4-4-4-12@750Mhz it should not be a problem.

Any thoughts?

It'd better be. I spent four hours searching info about various parts and finally came up with this. The Graphics card is the only component I'm not yet sure about. Is there any way I could get more bang for my buck there?

If you're unsure about the video card, get an 7600GT, don't think It would make so much of a difference, and I think you should get the 2GB if you game a lot.

I won't be getting any new games soon so I think the 1GB I get at first will be enough for the games I have now. I'll get more memory from my next pay. Memory is still expensive probably because of the great demand in the past holiday season.

I'll check the 7600GT and do a comparison.

7900GS delivers ~33% more fps than 7600GT for only ~25% higher price so I think 7900GS is the way to go here.

I dont really know, since last time I really looked through the cards was a month ago, before the 8800 series came out, so all I can say is, go for the most bang for your buck, and buy whichever one you want

I still haven't got the parts. Even the importer is out of memory (hehe). I've been offered a bit cheaper Corsair memory with CL5 instead of CL4... I don't honestly know how much it will affect the overall performance.
