Hey All CivFanatics.

This is my first mail so bear with.

I am having an insanely BIG problem with my Civ (1.61) game. I am have the required HARDWARE (G5) and have always played with the patched version. I played with Saladin on Standard, Large, and Huge maps with 5-12 opponents for 3 months with NO problems. But now I am Roosevelt and suddenly Civ4 freezes my computer completely (need to manually restart computer) whenever I click on Saladin (only Saladin). This continued on all map sizes. When I click on Saladin to talk to him it would bring up his picture (animation) but just before bringing up the text selections, my computer freezes completely! If he talks to me (when I do NOT have to click his name) there are no problems. This continued for last 3 weeks and only with Roosevelt.
1st solution: XML fix - made Saladin unplayable by AI.

However, today, Civ4 froze on me again without accosting Saladin and for no apparent reason...

I have set up logs but I am not sure what to look for.

Does anyone have anything that may help me solve this problem?

Try using Civ IV on a other account. If the game also give a freeze then, you should reinstall the game.

If the game works good then you should remove the preferences and the Folder 'Civilization IV' from your home folder.

Good luck.

Are you referring to the account name in the CivilizationIV.ini file? Are there any illegal characters, because I did change the Game name and added an email address before the trouble began. Which line do I change?

; Game Name

GameName = Mads's Game

; Save Path - relative to working (Civ4) folder

FileName = 0

; Account Username

Nickname = 0

; Email Address

I think the suggestion is that you set up a new account on the Mac, in System Preferences, and log in as that user. That way, when you play Civ4 you are not relying on any of your old user data, which could be corrupt, and you start with a clean sheet.

I've deleted your email address in the above post. It's never a good idea to publish your email address in a public forum, as it will be picked up by every spam harvester in the world.

I see. Thanks for the email deletion, totally slipped my mind.

I will give the account fix a shot.

Would a complete uninstall and reinstall fix the problem?

Thanks for all,

Complete uninstall would be as good as, or better than making the new test account, which is a quick and non-destructive way to eliminate the possibility of your user data being corrupt. But you would have to manually delete the relevant folders and files, as I don't think there's an automated uninstaller.

As well as the actual application folder there are Civ4 folders in ~/Documents/ and ~/Library/Application Support, and the preferences are a file at ~/Library/Preferences/com.aspyr.civ4.plist. If you want to preserve any of your saves and mods then make a backup of the ~/Documents/Civ4 folder before deleting the live copy and reinstalling.

Thanks for your help. I just deleted all the files from my computer and reinstalled Civ4 and patched it up-to-date and now no problems are occurring...

Once again thanks
