View Full Version : Members Absence Thread.
classical_hero Jan 16, 2007, 06:44 PM This is the thread for stating when you are away and when you get back.
I will start this thread by saying that I will be away from a computer for a few days since I am getting a new computer and desk, so it might take a few days for it get done.
gbno1fan Jan 16, 2007, 07:24 PM Does that mean I am responsible for playing the save while you are away?
Chamnix Jan 21, 2007, 07:47 AM Classical_hero wasn't very specific about when he thought he would return, but he hasn't been on CFC for 5 days, so I guess playing the save is up to gbno1fan again.
classical_hero Jan 22, 2007, 04:47 AM I am back, but in a limited capacity.
greekguy Jan 22, 2007, 01:26 PM I'll be gone for the next several days to study for my midterms.
classical_hero Jan 24, 2007, 06:06 AM I will be gone from Thursday to saturday (Australia day Weekend).
classical_hero Jan 28, 2007, 06:33 AM I am back after a few exhausting days. It has been over 40C for three days straight, so naturally things have been a bit rough for me. But I can now resume my duties.
greekguy Jan 29, 2007, 02:05 PM I'm back now, I just have 1 midterm left, so i'll just be gone probably tomorrow to study for it and than that's it. :)
gbno1fan Feb 22, 2007, 04:13 PM I will be away this weekend but will still periodically check the forums.
dutchfire Feb 23, 2007, 07:11 AM I'll probably be away sunday and monday. I might have some time to check the forums'.
Bartleby Mar 16, 2007, 05:35 AM While I'm not a prolific poster in this forum, I check here every day (except weekends) and this is a long weekend :saintpatrick: so I'm not around 'til Tuesday. There should be a :leprechaun: smiley too.
classical_hero Mar 18, 2007, 02:46 AM I bet they will be extra drunk after beating the Pakistanis in the Cricket World Cup. :D
Bartleby Mar 20, 2007, 04:05 AM After the rugby, there seems to be a lot of new cricket fans.
dutchfire Mar 20, 2007, 09:51 AM I might be around less the coming time, my grandfather fell last night and broke his hip. I'll have to visit him and I might have to help out at my grandmothers house. I'll probably be around often enough to do my job as chief ambassador, but it might be less than usual.
Calis Mar 20, 2007, 10:41 AM All the best for your grandfather! I believe the job as Chief ambasador will be a lazy job in the nearer future...
greekguy Apr 15, 2007, 06:17 PM I'll be gone from April 19 through April 22. Although I'll have internet access, I'm fairly certain that I won't have any time to check our forum during that timespan.
gbno1fan Apr 16, 2007, 02:04 PM I will also be gone this weekend for a long awaited, needed, and anticipated camping trip.
I leave in the evening of the 19th and return the evening of the 22nd.
classical_hero Apr 26, 2007, 11:04 AM How was the trip and did you take any photos?
gbno1fan Apr 26, 2007, 11:42 AM The trip was great - most fun I've ever had on a weekend camping trip. I didn't take too many photos this year because my friend's new camera put mine to shame - he might have some pictures that I can show later, but here are some from our trip to the same place (Mammoth Cave National Park):
http://depaul.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2020790&l=13dce&id=22006677
classical_hero Apr 26, 2007, 01:07 PM I am surprised that it took you a whole year to get those photos up. :shake: :mischief:
gbno1fan Apr 26, 2007, 01:08 PM  Those pictures have actually been up for a year. It's just taken a year for someone on these forums to be interested!
gbno1fan May 07, 2007, 06:34 AM I will be out of town from Tuesday to Friday as my work will be hosting a conference. However, I should have limited internet connectivity to access the forums periodically.
Calis May 18, 2007, 08:43 AM I am going to be away on Monday and Tuesday next week without internet access...
dutchfire May 18, 2007, 09:11 AM It's going to be lonely here
I'll be in Rome the 20th - 26th of May.
dutchfire May 19, 2007, 10:32 AM Checking out now, I'll be back in about a week. I'll ask greekguy if he can take over for me during that time.
Elear May 21, 2007, 09:59 AM Hello again,
It's been a good few months since I've been around CFC. The truth is, I got busy with real life and other things and didn't have much time for Civ anymore. I should have left a notice, but, I didn't. So I would just like to apologize for dissapearing so suddenly. I hope to be back playing Civ again now; I'm going to boot it up today and play some casual games to get back used to it again. You seem to have a good start on the SG... I'm glad to see it has gone at least fairly well.
See you all around, hopefully.
Sincerely,
Elear
classical_hero May 22, 2007, 05:25 AM No problem. We all need to have a RL, so it is no problem with me, since I am not very active myself.
denyd Jun 01, 2007, 11:58 AM Not that I'm likely to be missed, but I'll be out from about 9am June 2nd until about 5pm on June 3rd.
Upcoming I'll also be off planet from June 9th until the 19th visiting the Mouse.
greekguy Jun 12, 2007, 01:36 PM I'll be gone from the 13th-18th studying for finals. Once my finals are done, I'll be back here and ready to devote a lot more time to helping our team. :)
Calis Jun 19, 2007, 04:36 AM I'll be on a business trip from Sunday 24 (noon) till Thursday 28 (night). So I will be able to play again at the earliest on Friday night.
I am not sure about internet access yet, but I think at best it will be occasionally. Hotel internet access is horribly expensive usally.
classical_hero Jun 20, 2007, 08:09 AM I'm having dizzy spell, so I don't know when I will be active again.
greekguy Jun 20, 2007, 02:06 PM i'm back for now, but i'm going on vacation from the 24th-30th of June. after that, i'll have nothing major come up for nearly two months, and will be able to devote a lot more time to our team.
dutchfire Jun 27, 2007, 11:35 AM Absent for a week, starting the 29th.
I see that greekguy comes back on the 30th, but I'm sure we'll manage to survive without an ambassador for two days.
Calis Jul 09, 2007, 05:43 AM From July 26 till August 6 I will be away to Norway on a fishing trip with no internet access!
Sorry for delaying the games...
classical_hero Jul 10, 2007, 02:43 PM I forgot to mention earlier that I was sick, but I am now feeling better, but I will still be absent because we have way too much work to get through so I will way to busy to be here.
greekguy Aug 28, 2007, 02:20 PM On vacation from September 1-7. I'll post if I can but most likely will be unable to.
Bartleby Aug 31, 2007, 09:48 AM I'm taking a week off work, so I'll be back online on the 10th September.
Calis Sep 04, 2007, 02:44 AM I am going to be on vacation in Scotland from September 21, till October 7 without internet/Civ access. Sorry for any delays!!!
gbno1fan Oct 05, 2007, 12:51 PM I believe I am back after a long, long absence. The wedding went well - you can see pictures at www.pictage.com - do a search for Ben and Heather, sign up (annoying, I know) and then there are the over 1400 pictures our photographer sent us. The honeymoon pictures are up as well. We visited Northern Italy with a stop at the Amsterdam airport (after missing our flight on the way home due to a rain delay out of Venice and spending a few hours not knowing when we'd get home, I am in no hurry to go back to the Schipol in Amsterdam even though it was one of the nicest airports I've been to). Anyway, the honeymoon pictures are in these three albums:
One (http://depaul.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2089218&l=9314a&id=22006677), Two (http://depaul.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2089221&l=f7930&id=22006677), and Three (http://depaul.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2089237&l=9ec9e&id=22006677)
I started a new job and we bought a condo. We're almost finally settled in, so I'm finding a little bit more time for my hobbies again.
I'll be trying to catch up for a while now...

How was Schiphol? Were any of my tips of any use (I doubt it :p)?
gbno1fan Oct 06, 2007, 07:24 PM The airport was really neat - we liked the lounge seats. We thought about going to check out the museum but decided against it when we realized it had a ton of art on display - we aren't huge art fans and we wanted to explore the airport instead.
Other than being stuck there waiting to be put on a new flight home since we missed the first one, it was a nice place to have a layover.
Elear Oct 27, 2007, 09:29 AM Hello, hello :)
Calis Oct 27, 2007, 11:52 AM Hello, hello :)
Welcome back Elear...
Are you going to stay longer? ;)
Elear Oct 27, 2007, 02:15 PM Welcome back Elear...
Are you going to stay longer? ;)
 Yeah, I will this time.
Elear Oct 31, 2007, 08:56 AM I will be away from the 1st until the 7th.
I will try not to dissapear this time. :p
Elear Nov 07, 2007, 08:37 PM :crazyeye: Back
dutchfire Nov 08, 2007, 09:02 AM Next week is exam week for me, so I might be offline more. (And yes, I should have started earlier)
denyd Nov 08, 2007, 07:48 PM Let's see, last time I had exams would have been June 1979
BTW: I'll be out of town with only minor access November 21-24
classical_hero Nov 15, 2007, 04:08 AM I was less than a year old back then. ;)
dutchfire Nov 20, 2007, 08:29 AM Due to real life issues, I fear I might not have the time (and concentration) to do any diplomacy over the coming week or so. I'd appreciate it if someone else could take care of that while I'm away. There's not so much that needs to be done, we should probably sent something to GONG about Astronomy and Chemistry though.
Elear Dec 06, 2007, 11:37 PM May not be able to play Civ or access Civfanatics for several days.
-Elear
p.s. - I think it is good to have my campaign speech now ;)
Vote for me (instead of that 'abstain' person) because unlike 'abstain', I can actually...think for myself.
So, there you have it.
Elear Dec 08, 2007, 10:42 AM Back earlier than anticipated
Calis Dec 20, 2007, 11:27 AM Due to extreme work load I am unable to play my games...:(
Please be patient, weekend is approaching :)
Bartleby Dec 21, 2007, 02:59 AM I will be incommunicado from today until 8th Jan.
dutchfire Dec 21, 2007, 05:45 AM I will be skiing starting Januari 1st, for about 5 days (though recovery might take longer).
Bartleby Jan 08, 2008, 06:00 AM I'm back; it's going to take a while to get up to speed with this.
Calis Mar 06, 2008, 01:42 AM I am on holiday from March 8 till March 15...
dutchfire Mar 06, 2008, 08:03 AM Next week is exam week for me, so I might be offline more. (And yes, I should have started earlier)
:stupid: .
denyd Mar 06, 2008, 08:35 AM I'll help you out, the answer to #3 is b-Magellan and to #4 it's a-colonoscopy
(actually, best of luck on those exams)
Calis May 23, 2008, 07:47 AM I will be on a training from May 26 till May 29.
I hope at least to have acces to Civ3 with my laptop...
Calis May 25, 2008, 05:21 AM I fear I can't play any turns before Friday :(
dutchfire Jul 02, 2008, 11:07 AM I have my last exam parties saturday, and then I'm leaving for 1,5 or 2 weeks of holiday. After that, I should have more time again. (Should...)
dutchfire Jul 14, 2008, 08:25 AM I'm back
Anything happened?
Calis Jul 14, 2008, 08:27 AM I'm back
Anything happened?
Welcome back and yes. Council and BABE are not at war any longer...
greekguy Jul 17, 2008, 09:56 AM Well, I'm done with school for now, back from a vacation, and have had my wisdom teeth successfully pulled, so I'm gonna try to contribute more to the team than just GPSing in the (dying) civ 3 PBEM thread.
Calis Jul 31, 2008, 04:13 AM Getting a new internet provider. So I won't be able to play for 1 or 2 days.
Sorry for the delays!!
Calis Aug 07, 2008, 10:02 AM Getting a new internet provider. So I won't be able to play for 1 or 2 days.
Sorry for the delays!!
Yeah sure, 1-2 days...
But finally the provider solved all the problems.
I am back
dutchfire Aug 11, 2008, 01:52 AM I might not have internet access today and tomorrow, so if there's anything of a rush in the diplomatic area, feel free to write a note yourselves.
dutchfire Aug 15, 2008, 11:55 AM I'll be away for roughly 10 days, starting this sunday. It will be my introduction to university life :D
greekguy Aug 15, 2008, 03:29 PM I'll be away from Saturday - Wednesday, probably w/o internet access, so don't expect to see anymore posts from me for a few days.
Cyc Aug 20, 2008, 03:54 PM Computer is down and sent to manufacturer. Will be checking in occasionally, but It will be difficult or impossible to find a computer to install CIV3 on. Making this post from a library in West Virginia now.
I will return.
greekguy Aug 21, 2008, 01:05 PM Back from Buffalo, and a little disappointed that the Council-FREE war I read about in the main forum was actually an in-game glitch. :( oh, well. I guess we'll just have to nuke them both eventually to make up for it. :p
dutchfire Aug 28, 2008, 05:27 AM Guess who's back...
Did I miss anything big?
Calis Aug 28, 2008, 05:28 AM Guess who's back...
Did I miss anything big?
Welcome back dutchman
Yepp, GONG is out...
Bartleby Aug 29, 2008, 07:23 AM I'm away for a week.
Edit:
I have returned.
Elear Dec 18, 2008, 07:24 AM Does a year count as an absence or treason to the SABER Empire?
Let me know, I have my lawyers on call.
:king:
Chamnix Dec 18, 2008, 07:56 AM I hope you don't expect your parking space back :hide:.
Elear Dec 18, 2008, 11:32 AM  You didn't!
dutchfire Dec 18, 2008, 12:16 PM On the other hand, you can park your car anywhere in Babeland or on subcommitee island now.
Marsden Dec 18, 2008, 06:13 PM Hey, Elear! Didn't you know your President Pro-Teme of the Senate?
... Senator Elear: The Senate is assembled...
A year later and you only missed two turns thanks to Council and Free not knowing what to do.
Elear Dec 19, 2008, 11:48 PM That figures. ;)
Calis Jan 12, 2009, 03:22 AM Sorry. but I am sick...games will be delayed a bit...
dutchfire Jan 12, 2009, 10:41 AM Get well soon!
Marsden Jan 12, 2009, 10:54 AM Get well, soon, you simple German. No really, I hope you feel better.
Calis Jan 16, 2009, 04:58 AM I am back...now trying to catch up with my games...
And thanks for the good wishes :)
Marsden Jan 16, 2009, 06:17 AM [party] Happy you are well.
Elear Feb 04, 2009, 07:28 PM Will be away Thursday to Monday.
Calis Feb 11, 2009, 01:16 AM While MapFinder was looking for a Histo map for me the C3C disk crashed. Now I can't get it out of the drive.
I have a new disk already, but the old one has to be removed and the drive has to be functional...
Until further notice...
Marsden Feb 12, 2009, 05:43 AM Try sticking a paper clip in the manual unlocking hole.
I just got back after 2 days.
Calis Feb 12, 2009, 05:50 AM Try sticking a paper clip in the manual unlocking hole.
I just got back after 2 days.
have a look at the Water Hole thread :(
denyd Feb 12, 2009, 09:09 AM He pretended he was Mr Scott from Star Trek and stuck a Wiener in the Warp Drive and now he's lookin' for a wee bit o'mustard
Cyc Feb 12, 2009, 09:36 AM Hmm. That would be the logical thing to do....
Calis Feb 12, 2009, 12:12 PM Grrr. I bought a version of Conquests, which was in a movie magazine...
Everything works fine, until I install the 1.22 patch...
After that the game asks for the Conquests disk...
I have to look for a new disk, but a friends will borrow me his versionuntil I find a new one.
Tomorrow I will be able to play again...
Patience is a virtue...(I am lacking at times :gripe:)
Chamnix Feb 19, 2009, 05:36 AM If we wait for me to play the current turn (254), it is likely to be about 48 hours from when we received it - I'm a little overwhelmed with other stuff right now.
Elear Mar 04, 2009, 08:58 AM Salut mes amis ! :goodjob:
I thought I'd be back on Monday, but it took a little longer to take care of things. Here I am though.
Elear Mar 10, 2009, 10:19 AM accidental post
denyd Mar 11, 2009, 09:18 PM In case everyone's been wondering what happened to DenyD, well my company (in their infinite wisdom) has tightened up the firewall and I can't reach the Civ web site from work anymore. You'd think that spending 8 hours a day there would be enough for them, but no they expect us to actually be productive. I've been using my limited time at home primarily for PBEM games, but only had one tonight so I'm stopping by. I hope to be able to check in a 2-3 times a week.
Cyc Mar 12, 2009, 08:52 AM Bummer. As Furiey said, work has really been creeping up on my Civ time.
Chamnix Mar 12, 2009, 11:04 AM Just because they won't let you go to CFC doesn't mean you actually have to be productive - I'd show them that I could be just as unproductive without CFC if I were you.
Marsden Mar 13, 2009, 05:39 AM Just because they won't let you go to CFC doesn't mean you actually have to be productive - I'd show them that I could be just as unproductive without CFC if I were you.
That'll learn 'em. :trouble:
Chamnix Mar 24, 2009, 01:22 PM I will be tripping for my company from Sunday March 29 through Wednesday April 1. I may have sporadic internet access, but I definitely won't have civ access.
Chamnix Jun 10, 2009, 06:36 PM My home computer woke up dead this morning, and I'm not sure it can be resurrected. I'll check in from other computers when I can, but I'm not sure when (or if) I will be able to play turns.
Calis Jun 11, 2009, 12:35 PM I think we are a few days away from getting the turn actually. If you won't be able to play the turn, somebody else should step in. I think we can do a one day delay or something, but more wouldn't be appropriate due to our statements in the turn tracker thread :).
If nobody wants to, I'd take that burden, but can't guarantee utmost effectiveness...
dutchfire Jun 12, 2009, 02:19 PM Do you know what our micromanagement/bombardment plans are?
Calis Jun 12, 2009, 02:49 PM Chamnix is not off the world...
He can instruct me proberly I think...but I think we have some time till then...
The Council won't break with their habit and start playing quickly right now...
Chamnix Jun 12, 2009, 09:45 PM I tried 3 witch doctors, 1 drill sargeant, an exorcist, and even 2 computer experts, but none of them could find a way to salvage my computer, so it has officially been declared Scrap Metal.
I have ordered a new computer, and its estimated arrival time is "on or before June 22".
Cyc Jun 12, 2009, 09:49 PM Did you perhaps print out a coppy of the Council's city builds? We could use those numbers.
Chamnix Jun 14, 2009, 09:26 AM I didn't but I think the screenshots I posted are probably as useful as a printout.
Calis Jun 14, 2009, 10:03 AM Well, is there anybody who desperately wants to play the turn?
It's probably coming tomorrow...
Calis Jun 15, 2009, 02:18 PM I am not sure, whether I can finish the turn tonoght.
But I will have a look at it at least...
My son and wife don't feel very well and I have to look for them regularly...
Calis Jun 19, 2009, 12:58 AM I tried 3 witch doctors, 1 drill sargeant, an exorcist, and even 2 computer experts, but none of them could find a way to salvage my computer, so it has officially been declared Scrap Metal.
I have ordered a new computer, and its estimated arrival time is "on or before June 22".
How's the status of your new PC?
Chamnix Jun 19, 2009, 10:00 AM They tried to deliver it yesterday, but I wasn't home. Should be today...
Calis Jul 30, 2009, 12:55 AM Our computer room moves into the basement today. also the main internet connection moves along. Not sure when I will be back online. Hopefully by Friday evening.
denyd Aug 04, 2009, 12:11 AM I'll be on the road from around noon this Friday until next Tuesday night. At the pace this game is moving, I'm not likely to miss much. To the players in Saber DM, sorry for the delay.
dutchfire Aug 15, 2009, 06:55 AM I'll be gone for the next ~10 days. Keep killing councilmen in that time :)
dutchfire Oct 09, 2009, 12:03 PM Hi,
Real life is really hectic at the moment, so I won't be able to comment much on the game.
Chamnix Oct 12, 2009, 04:50 AM I will be away without internet access from Friday afternoon until Sunday afternoon.
Calis Oct 13, 2009, 12:52 AM I am away till Wednesday night and won't be able to post, or play my turns...
Cyc Nov 16, 2009, 08:45 AM My hard drive seems to have a mind of it's own. It looks like I'm losing files and folders, so I don't expect to be using this American made Gateway piece of crap much longer. If I disappear, you you'll have a fairly good idea of what happened.
Cyc Mar 31, 2010, 08:46 AM Hi, lost my connection for a couple of days. I will have sporadic access until Sunday. Sorry about any delays.
Cyc
Cyc Apr 14, 2010, 03:20 PM No internet access. Will show up when I can. Periodically, like this. :)
Elear Apr 19, 2010, 11:16 PM This game is still here? ;)
dutchfire May 10, 2010, 12:13 PM just got back from 10 days in England, will read up on current status now.
dutchfire Oct 25, 2010, 09:02 AM Was in the US for 2 weeks, I see I didn't miss much.
Chamnix Nov 04, 2010, 09:52 AM I will probably be without internet access for most of this weekend returning Sunday night.
Calis Nov 04, 2010, 10:04 AM I will probably be without internet access for most of this weekend returning Sunday night.
I do not see us getting the save anytime soon anyway...So there should be no trouble (like me playing the turn ;))
