View Full Version : Unit Creation Sounds Thread
Pablostuka Apr 14, 2002, 07:34 AM I've opened this thread for you all unit creators.I think it's a good idea to post here interesting sounds for unit animations for customize or accurate all the unit creations, and discuss in what kind of units will suit better:) .I thought that a sounds thread will be very useful to the creation & customization forum, but I have posted it in the Unit graphics forum, due to the utility it could have to unit creation;)
I invite you to post interesting sounds.Maybe could be useful:D
By the way, I attach some interesting sounds for WW2 units (my favourite era;))
These are 2 sounds files for tanks run animations, taken from Captain nemo Civ2 scenarios;)
Pablostuka Apr 14, 2002, 07:57 AM There are 2 sounds really interesting. The first one called "Rocket" is a good sound for the attack animation of units like a bazooka infantry, german panzerschreck, nebelwerfer unit (Kentonio is working on it:cool: ), or similar units using rockets. The second one called "Flame" is an interesting sound for a flamethrower infantry unit.
Enjoy it!:D
Pablostuka Apr 14, 2002, 08:00 AM I forgot to say that these sound were taken from Close Combat IV game (special thanks to Bloo for the utility program;))
Kentonio Apr 14, 2002, 08:09 AM Heres the rocket sound I used for the Katyusha. I love this sound!
Kentonio
tpasmall Apr 14, 2002, 08:38 AM Here is one i made with a guy screaming then an explosion. (used for the speeder bike death sound)
Pablostuka Apr 14, 2002, 08:51 AM That's what I expected!!It seems to be a good idea this thread ;)
Kentonio: very good sound. But I just have it from your Katyushka unit (good work!!)
tpasmall: cool sound, very useful to future or fantasy units ;)
Dark Sheer Apr 14, 2002, 10:44 AM What do you mean a good idea?
Its one hell of a great idea!! I have quite a lot of good sound files to post here as soon as I get them organized. ;)
tpasmall Apr 14, 2002, 12:12 PM Originally posted by Pablostuka

I also just thought of something else it would be good for. A sapper unit for a medieval unit :D
TVA22 Apr 14, 2002, 11:32 PM I have finished my Japanese Imperial Marines unit, but have not posted it here yet, because I am having a problem with the sound. I took a gunshot from another game, it is a .wav file, and should be compatable, but it won't play the sfx, it just makes this clicking noise. I know there's an amb file for the attacks, but I don't want to use it, I just want to have the sound effect I chose. My name for the .wav file and the name in the .ini file is the same. I know when I first downloaded Kentonio's Katyusha unit, I had the same problem. Anyone know what the problem is?

Hi Tva22,
I am the one that fixed Kentonio's Katysha problem :yeah:
Send me those sound wav files and I will adjust to the proper level...
I tell you then how it can be done;)
Pablostuka Apr 15, 2002, 01:26 PM Here are some WW2 fighter sounds:). The one called "Earljet" is designed for German Jet airplanes (Me-262,Ar-234...etc, not a Me-163 Komet, it is a rocket fighter;)).The called "Fighter1" and "Fighter2" are very good sounds for run or attack animations of WW2 fighters. All are taken from Close Combat IV
Enjoy!!!:D
To nonno: Please tell in the thread how do you adjust to the proper level the unit's sounds, and all of us could know how to do it;) Thanks!

How to convert any wav. sound file to use for Civ3:
Go on your computer on the start menu bar and go to programs/accesories/multimedia and click on SOUND RECORDER.
All Civ3 wav files formats are at 22,050 Hz, 16bit Mono.
Click on open and search for the wav file you need to convert.
Then click on PROPERTIES.
On the next screen you click on [CONVERT NOW]
Then search for the wav format listed above hit ok and save.
And yor done!
Hope this helps :yeah:
Pablostuka Apr 15, 2002, 03:15 PM Thanks a lot of this information. I'm using too Sound Recorder to record the sounds I post, but are in another frequency. Now I'll post my sounds in the correct format ;)
tpasmall Apr 15, 2002, 11:36 PM Hey Sheer, now that your a moderator..... could you make this post a sticky? It is a really good idea.
Pablostuka Apr 17, 2002, 04:00 PM There are some interesting sounds for tanks attack animations.
The one called "Tankgun1" is a very good sound, but it's very big for Civ3:( :(
Enjoy it!!!:D

how do you edit an .amb file?
Dark Sheer Apr 18, 2002, 10:33 PM As requested, this thread is now Sticky. ;)
Pablostuka Apr 19, 2002, 05:18 PM I can't belive my thread as a Sticky:) Thanks, Dark Sheer!!!
To Kal-el. I don't know how to edit .amb files...I only work with wav files.I can't help you:confused: . Maybe someone else know how to do that.It would very helpful to tell us how to do it:cool:
Pablostuka Apr 24, 2002, 03:16 PM Ok, buddies, Is time to post new sounds. There are interesting voice sounds for Fortify and Victory animations, in English and German(thanks w.i.n.t.e.r for the translation).I hope it will be useful for WW2 infantry units;).

Pablostuka Apr 24, 2002, 04:10 PM Just take a look on the 2nd post of the first page of this thread...download the zip called "other", and enjoy with the flamethrower sound :)
Have a nice day, nonno
Pablostuka Apr 24, 2002, 04:24 PM Hi, man! My Heinkel is also full stopped...I'm having university's exams...and I haven't got time to work on it. I hope in the next 2 weeks I'll continue my work. it's very difficult to make an unit by hand:rolleyes: !!I would like to change the color, to make a Luftwaffe green camouflage, but...I think that it's Ok now. What do you think about the color?is the default green of the CivIII bomber...
Also I'll work on stainz's Avro Arrow, to finish his beautiful unit:goodjob:
Bye!!:D
Pablostuka Apr 24, 2002, 04:58 PM Your idea about replacing colors is very interesting. What about winter camouflages?;).
And of course...THIRD REICH CREATION TEAM!!!.
One thing:SpencerH's firegalley animation is awesome!.I've thought about make a german flammenwerfer (flamethrower;)), based on a german infantry unit (your waffen SS little modified, with wehrmacht uniform, and the fuel tanks), and add SpencerH's fire animation, with my sound. The death animation should be a very big explosion. I think it's a great idea, but we need the author's permission...and TIME;);). tell me what do you think about this unit
Pablostuka Apr 24, 2002, 05:24 PM Hi, buddy. Take a look on this thread about Spanish leaders:)Spanish leaders (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19497) .I like your idea about creating a head of "la reina Isabel". Firaxis did a big mistake ignoring the Spanish civilization:p .
About the "flammenwerfer". The fire animation was created by SpencerH. He doesn't reply his thread, so I'll begin working on the unit (when I have TIME:rolleyes: ). Wooow...I'll be working on three units:crazyeye: .
And I'll try to modify also your Waffen SS and your Fallschirmjäger to do the unit:p .
have a nice day!!(oops, where I live is very late...I'll soon get sleep:rolleyes: )
bye!
Pablostuka Apr 24, 2002, 05:34 PM here are the Joan d'Arc pics from CivIII (I hope this is what are you looking for:))
Pablostuka Apr 25, 2002, 02:46 PM Hi, buddy:). I don't like soccer...jaja:p , but I like Civ III!!!!:D
And this could be useful, specially for Kinboat and his Squid unit ;). He doensn't have an interesting sound, but...FOR WHAT IS THIS THREAD????;);)
Enjoy!!:king:
(sound file taken from the Dinosaur Scenari for CivII, I don't remember the author;))
rommel77 Apr 25, 2002, 07:01 PM Hey everyone
All you people who have or are making units I salute you without you my civ3 would be dull. Since my computer skills are lacking(first computer only had 3months) I would like to offer any help I can to anyone making WW2 units, especially you guys in the Third Reich Creation Team. I use all of your guys units and just want contribute what I can ex. pictures, info, whatever. Anyway later!!
Pablostuka Apr 25, 2002, 07:18 PM Thanks, buddy! You are welcome, and any information, pictures..etc, you have would be very useful to new unit projects:).
To begin;): What about Heinkel He-111 bomber civilopedia entry? I have a lot of information on Luftwaffe books, but they're all writen in Spanish, and my English isn't good for translating (all of you'd noticed :P). If you make a good text for my unit, I'll thank you very much:king: .
Bye!!!:D

Thanks!
Pablostuka Apr 26, 2002, 05:28 PM Ok, It's time to post more interesting sounds for our unit creations.
I attach a file containing 3 sounds taken from "History" scenario for CivII by Sound Wave. They are excellent for WW2 infantry attack animations!!!
And I invite you guys to post your sounds!!
shramj Apr 26, 2002, 05:33 PM Here are some cool sounds you mod makers can use for the game, I hope you like them. These are mainly tank sounds and machine gun sounds. Later, Joe
Kinboat Apr 26, 2002, 05:35 PM Thanks for the sound Pablostuka. I have all my old civ2 files on my computer still, I should've thought of looking through them... I'm going right now to see if I can find a few others...
Pablostuka Apr 26, 2002, 05:49 PM Very good sounds!!!:)
Tomorrow I'll post an special zip containing a lot of WW2 infantry weaponry sounds. imagine...sounds for Garand rifle, MP-40, Thompson, MG-42, MG-34, .30 cal,.50 cal, Mauser rifle, mortars....etc. All WW2 unit creators will be very happy:p :p

Pablostuka Apr 27, 2002, 08:32 AM I forgot to say that all were taken from Close Combat IV game. amazing!!!:D
Kinboat Apr 28, 2002, 08:35 PM I have two points...
First anyone here ever heard of a game called Steel Panthers World at War... Matrix Games released it as freeware a little while ago... Anyway my point here is that it has a ton of WW1/2 based sounds in wav format... I'll post two here for review, but look at my second point first.
Second I can't seem to get any sounds I create or modify to work in the game.... I've converted them to 22, 8bit mono like the other sounds are and I don't get anything... Is there something I'm missing? (obviously I am) With that in mind I'm posting two samples of Sounds from SPWaW... They aren't in the right format for civ3 yet. I have a ton of other sounds from that game if anyone wants to request a specific gun or tank sound (planes too) Or you should be able to download the complete game at Matrix Games' site (don't know offhand) It is a hefty 300meg.
Kinboat Apr 28, 2002, 08:43 PM oops forgot the file....
Pablostuka Apr 29, 2002, 03:39 PM Hi Kinboat. Are you sure the sounds are in 22,050Hz, and 16 bit mono??It's very important to work with civ3. My very special thanks to nonnob3 for the sound format information:cool:
Bye!!!!:king:
Kinboat Apr 29, 2002, 04:13 PM 16bit mono... that's were I had a problem. For some reason I thought I had looked at a sound and it was 8bit, so that's what I tried. But if it's 16bit then I looked at the wrong wav file. Thanks Pablostuka.
Polaris May 05, 2002, 11:33 PM Hey guys,
Anyone have any idea how one might go about extracting the sound files from Sudden Strike? The reason I ask is that there some great Russian and German voice sounds as well as some nice vehicle, explosion and weapon sounds in that game. They aren't .wav files and frankly I'm stumped as to how to get them out for use in Civ III.

Hi Polaris. I don't have Sudden Strike game, so I can't help you:confused: . But if the sounds aren't in .wav format, maybe it could be an special utility to hear them. For example: Close Combat game hasn't any sound in -wav format, but threr is a little application to hear them, and convert...
Hope someone can help you
Bye!!
:king:
Polaris May 06, 2002, 11:55 PM Hi Pablo,
I think that you are right about the sounds being in some kind of format that would require a special utility to extract them. I've been prowling the Sudden Strike board to see if anyone has created such a program. No luck so far, but if I can find a way to do it, I'll post them.
Cheers.
W.i.n.t.e.r May 07, 2002, 09:55 AM Hola hermano,
Pablo, I need a big favour:
Can you look if you find some sharp sounding german voices for the Leibstandarte ??? Possibly in the style of (Xcuse) "Sieg Heil"?
Fortify:
1) Something like "Zu Befehl" (a la orden) along with
2) a rifle handling sound and/or a boot clapping sound
Run:
3) heavy boots marching on stone ground
Sería fabuloso si pues encontrar algo así :)
Thank you - gracias !!!

Pablostuka May 08, 2002, 04:01 PM Hi, compañero. I've been studying a lot for today's exam. Now it's time to get back the forum:cool: .
For your request:
-I think that nonnob3's idea about recording your own voice is great!I've done something like that in another game, to translate all the voices to Spanish, instead of English :p :p :p !!!The windows sound recorder is very useful!
-I have the rifle sounds for the fortify animation.I'm posting it
:D . But I have one question: Your SS is running or walking?Because I can find some interesting sound of boots from parades, but if the SS is running...I'll still looking for something interesting...
Here's the rifle sounds zip. There are 3 different sounds, just use what do you prefer;) .
hasta luego!!!

Kinboat May 08, 2002, 05:10 PM I totally forgot I'd said I'd post my UFO sounds once I got them working, Sorry. I'll post them now... Sound isn't my best area so if anyone has a better sound please post it.

Hey, these sounds are awesome!!!.
To W.i.n.t.e.r: All the sounds I have from parades have music...But what do you think about the default "Barracks.wav" from Civilization 2? Perhaps it could be useful. If not, you can use the InfantryRun.amb from Civilization 3. It's very good:)

I don't know if you can control Barbarian advances. But the idea of UFO's in all the historical ages is good. Archers and horsemen fighting against hordes of unknown "Demon's from the skies" looks pretty good. And the same for the modern age. Just my opinion:cool: .
I really like Kinboat's ideas about barbarian units. i'm using his Squid as a sea barbarian unit. My Galleys are attacked by.. SEA MONSTERS!!!!:crazyeye:

Ok, I'll look for them. i hope I have them in a CD...:p . And it's very strange you don't have the Wondows sound recorder. it's in the program files/accesories(or something like that)/multimedia/Sound recorder. In the Spanish version of windows it is called "grabadora de sonidos".
if I find the CD now, I'll post the sounds. if not, wait until tomorrow...;).

Here is a .zip containing:
Boots1 & Boots2 . From Command & Conquer Red Alert soundtrack.Heavy boots parading:p .
Boots3 . The default Barracks sound of Civilization II.
Leibstandarte . Something funny:crazyeye: . I've mixed Civ2 barrack's sound with "Der Koniggrätzer Marsch", and sounds really cool:cool: . But I don't know if you want music in your unit:D .
Tell me your opinion.

TankRun.wav, TankFortify.wav, TankDeath.wav and TankAttack.wav for the Panther, T-34, Tiger(except TankRun), and Sherman.
TigerRun.wav, for his Tiger tank.
I hope you like them!!

Smoking mirror May 29, 2002, 09:57 AM Here are some basic Wavs for the new AoE AoK units that have been springing up all over the place.
Most of them dont have sound files, so I linked a few firaxis sounds together to make some simple combinations.
When you have like, 8 new units to add to your game and you have to give tham all sounds, the last thing you want to do is muck about with .AMB files
So here is an attack, death, victory, run and optional horse run and bow attack sound for your Bow/horse units. (can also be used for the camel);
thamis Jun 12, 2002, 10:57 AM Hey guys. I know you're working on a third reich mod. Can you please, PLEASE, include real German voices. Those Americans trying to mimic Germans like "OOCHTUNG!" sounds too awful. If you're looking for certain voices I can help you out - I'm German.
Pablostuka Jun 12, 2002, 11:05 AM Yes, great idea. W.i.n.t.e.r was going to record something (He's german too), but he hasn't any program to do that, I guess. Yes, you can record something useful for WW2 german units...The voices I've used in some units were taken from Close Combat IV game, I don't know if it are original german records...Feel free to record anything:cool:
Bye!!!!:king:
Pablostuka Jun 12, 2002, 02:14 PM Hey nonnob3! But where are you from? American, Italian, German...? :P
Pablostuka Jun 12, 2002, 02:26 PM Ok :). It's nice to know about the forum's friends
Ciao, amico!!
Kinboat Jun 19, 2002, 10:34 AM I have a sound request... I'm making a Humvee and for the victory animation I have the lights flashing :) What I need is a honking horn... specificly a Humvee (if the military version has a horn... wouldn't want to bump it at the wrong moment :) )
Pablostuka Jun 19, 2002, 04:41 PM Ok...I'll see what I can do...Perhaps recording Need for Speed in-game sounds will be useful...:). I hope a Humvee's horn sounds like a normal car.... I'll try to post tomorrow a zip with some sounds :)
Bye!!!!!!:king:
Pablostuka Jun 20, 2002, 10:56 AM I hope this could help you :)
(Taken from Need for Speed IV game)
kazar Jul 08, 2002, 11:42 PM I started mixing sounds together into a single *.wav file because I didn't understand how to use the *.amb files that Civ3 uses.
So if anyone can use these for mods or units feel free...
First one:
Calvalry Attack - mixed horse gallop + reload gun + fire gun
kazar Jul 09, 2002, 05:07 PM I started mixing sounds together into a single *.wav file because I didn't understand how to use the *.amb files that Civ3 uses.
So if anyone can use these for mods or units feel free...
Second One:
Mortar Infantry - Light, Medium, Heavy
Mortar Attack - mixed mortar shell firing + shell explosion
kazar Jul 09, 2002, 11:34 PM Third One:
Apache Attack Chopper
Apache Attack - mixed machine gun + rocket launcher
kazar Jul 09, 2002, 11:38 PM Fourth One:
Anti-Aircraft Flak Gun
Flak Gun Attack - mixed 2 MG50 machine guns to give it the feel of more than one gun firing at once
kazar Jul 09, 2002, 11:42 PM Fifth One:
Humvee Victory
Humvee Victory - mixed jeep driving away + driver laughing
This file shows that the sounds are truly mixed and not just cut and pasted one after another.
kazar Jul 09, 2002, 11:47 PM Sixth One:
Horse Archer
Horse Archer Attack - mixed horse gallop + draw bow + fire bow
Crist2000 Jul 10, 2002, 04:45 AM Hei,
Here are some sounds taken from SSI's "People's General" game. They are compatible with Civ3 but a little bit long...
Crist2000 Jul 10, 2002, 04:45 AM .
Crist2000 Jul 10, 2002, 04:46 AM .
Pliny The Elder Aug 03, 2002, 03:59 AM www.findsounds.com has quite a few sounds for d/l
kazar Aug 03, 2002, 02:52 PM Here's another one:
I use this one for the Jaguar Warrior Victory.
War Drum Victory - Mixed Cruel Laugh + War Drums
kazar Aug 03, 2002, 02:55 PM Here's another one:
I use this one for the Pirate Galley.
Pirate Galley Attack - mixed water + arrow + bow + throwing spears
kazar Aug 03, 2002, 02:59 PM Here's another one:
I use this for a rogue, but could be used for an assasin armed with a blade.
Rogue Attack - Yell + Swoosh + Blade Hit
joespaniel Aug 05, 2002, 01:40 AM Tank turrent sound:
joespaniel Aug 05, 2002, 01:41 AM Tank run/move sound:
Pablostuka Aug 07, 2002, 12:04 PM Thanks guys for all the sounds, they're very interesting :).
To joespaniel: One of the first sounds I posted in this thread was the tank sounds from Captain Nemo scenarios for Civ 2. :D. You're late :D
joespaniel Aug 08, 2002, 05:26 PM oops...
Polaris Aug 08, 2002, 07:37 PM In anticipation of Kilroy "launching" this much awaited unit into Civ III, I have put together some sounds for it.
Kilroy Aug 08, 2002, 08:23 PM Originally posted by Polaris

Are these from Age of Kings?
Polaris Aug 08, 2002, 08:49 PM Some, like the attack and run .wavs are. The others are just sounds that I had that I though might work.
Pablostuka Aug 09, 2002, 03:38 PM Great!! Good job, Polaris!:)
Polaris Aug 09, 2002, 09:20 PM Here are some sounds that I put together for Level's Crawler. I have included two AttackB .wav files. The default is a chaingun while CrawlerAttackB-2 is a laser type sound. Use whichever one you prefer.
Polaris Aug 09, 2002, 09:25 PM Obviously, these are sounds for use with Level's Hover Tank. The victory .wav may be a bit cheesy, but I was getting tired of my units laughing or saying "yeah" everytime they were victorious.
Polaris Aug 09, 2002, 09:30 PM Lastly, here is a collection of sounds for Jimmyh's Spanish Conquistador. (Note to Spainish Language Speakers), If the victory .wav is totally stupid, forgive me, I don't speak Spainish. :D
Pablostuka Aug 10, 2002, 11:20 AM Ok, I've heard the sounds (they are excellent). The victory sound...it says "Madre de Dios", translated to English means something like "God's Mother"...I don't think if that sentence fits in the victory sound, but if you want, I can record something in Spanish for this victory sound, just tell me what do you want to listen :)
Good job, Polaris :goodjob:!!
HazieDaVampire Aug 10, 2002, 01:51 PM Here's a iron frigate gun sound, sounds more relistic and has more umpf.
A harrier bomb sound, sounds like its dropping more then 1 bomb.
i for some reason cant install any new units. So i don't know if these actualy fit in with the animations, so please tell me if they are off, inclueding an exact time of how they are off to 2pd.
Polaris Aug 10, 2002, 03:05 PM Thanks Pablostuka. Please feel free to post something more appropriate for the Conquistador's Victory .wav. I thought that Madre Dios could be used as something akin to an exclamation, but as I said, I don't know beans about the Spanish language.
Senoj Aug 12, 2002, 11:48 AM Hi, Senoj here!
I was looking through my game files for sounds for Civ3 when it came to my demo for the upcoming 'Medieval Total War' where I discovered hoards of combat sounds. I am posting the best ones here.
Some of the files have _lge etc. on the end. This purerly tells you the size of the unit.
PS. Sorry the files are so big. Some sounds are long. You may be able to chop bits off here and there to suit your needs. I would do it myself but I don't know how.:o
Senoj Aug 12, 2002, 12:03 PM Here are some human grunts for combat. Good for mid battle.
Senoj Aug 12, 2002, 12:06 PM Here are some deaths for cavalry units.
Senoj Aug 12, 2002, 12:08 PM Here are some swooshes. Good for swords and axes.
Senoj Aug 12, 2002, 12:11 PM Here are some 'Clinks'. Good for fortifying armoured units.
Senoj Aug 12, 2002, 12:16 PM Here are some Archer sounds. This is the last small file.
Senoj Aug 12, 2002, 12:31 PM Here are the big ones. They come in up to 3 parts. Its worth it.
Note: You don't need every part to work the sounds. Its just the 500kb restriction I have.
The following 2 parts are deaths. A bit gorier than usual.
Senoj Aug 12, 2002, 12:35 PM These are effects for a sword cutting into flesh.
Senoj Aug 12, 2002, 12:43 PM Here is part one of two. Arabic orders. Command phrases in arabic. Good for middle eastern countries' units.
Senoj Aug 12, 2002, 12:51 PM Part two of two.
Senoj Aug 12, 2002, 12:57 PM Here is part one of two parts. A set of explosions.
Senoj Aug 12, 2002, 01:01 PM Part two of two.
Senoj Aug 12, 2002, 01:08 PM Here is part one for some latin orders.
Senoj Aug 12, 2002, 01:11 PM Part two.
Senoj Aug 12, 2002, 01:17 PM Here are some musket sounds.
Senoj Aug 12, 2002, 01:20 PM Here is part one of the Russian Orders
Senoj Aug 12, 2002, 01:25 PM Part 2.
Senoj Aug 12, 2002, 01:29 PM That's it for the moment. Feel free to reply to me. I shall add lots more when the full game comes out.
Senoj.:scan:
PS. If anyone could tell me how to create my own sounds that woul be great.:)
kemal69 Aug 18, 2002, 04:42 AM Wow Senoj, you have been busy. :)
These sounds should be very useful!

Crist2000 Aug 20, 2002, 11:59 PM hei guys , does anyone have combat mech's walk sounds like heavy step?
Civanator Aug 24, 2002, 06:45 PM for BlueO's Combat Mecha? there is no sounds for it, he used other sounds from existing units in Civ3
Polaris Aug 24, 2002, 11:35 PM Crist2000, here is what I use for BlueO's Combat Mecha.
monster Aug 27, 2002, 04:01 PM Hey is there a sound for a transport. I don't wanna go through the entire forums looking for one. I don't like my current transport shooting wherever it goes. It's a little unrealistic.
Neomega Sep 02, 2002, 03:28 PM "W.i.n.t.e.r. This is the Windows sound recorder. i don't know if it request some other files.
Tell me if it works in your computer"
It works, but it is in Spanish, and no habla Espanol, So I was wondering if someone would be willing to take the time to copy their English one, zip it up and post it here?
EDIT:Nevermind, I found it on Windows XP by searching for sndrec32.
Crist2000 Sep 06, 2002, 03:52 AM Polaris,

Boulboulgadol Sep 16, 2002, 07:52 AM Hi people !

Architekt Sep 24, 2002, 06:49 PM Here are some great sounds I found online yesterday for the
FW 190,Bf109, und JU 87 (stuka)
The fw190 & 109 sounds are fly past,
be good for a run anim
Two stuka diving sounds (one with machine gun & explosion, one without)
I'd sooooooo love to see a good stuka made with a dive bomb attack anim.
109 daimler benz engine sounds so sweet
at high revs,
However these sounds have not yet been converted for civ as I dlded them on my Imac at work ,
Architekt Sep 24, 2002, 06:51 PM And the fighter flypasts:
Senoj Sep 25, 2002, 12:45 PM Architekt, how did you get your internet sounds and make them playable in the game?
Architekt Sep 25, 2002, 02:36 PM I havn't actually made them playable in the game yet but I will soon,
I use sound forge 5 and just save a downloaded file out with the same properties as an original game sound file, course some times they need a bit of tweaking and resampleing.
stainz Oct 03, 2002, 10:50 AM anyone have a good attack sound for timeline,s b-52?
Kinboat Oct 03, 2002, 01:40 PM I have a sound request... I have just finished up my dragon and was planning on posting it tonight until it dawned on me I didn't have any sounds :) If anyone has a sounds suitable for a dragon... Roars, flapping wings, maybe a good claw effect... For the breath attacks I have fire, lightning, ice, and acid... don't know what to use for them. You don't need to convert the to civ format I can do that myself, I'll also need to crop them to fit with the animation so the more complete the sound the better... I'm off to look myself but anyone who posts a sound here will save me some time and get a mention in my readme :)
Neomega Oct 03, 2002, 03:32 PM Architekt, how did you get your internet sounds and make them playable in the game?
Open .wav file in sound recorder:
properties>convert now
22,050 kHz, 16 bit mono, 43 kb/s
Architekt Oct 06, 2002, 09:50 PM Or , if you have sound forge..just resample and specify same properties
Polaris Oct 07, 2002, 12:15 AM Here's an alternative sound pac with new .ini file I made for Level's Hover Copter. Just unzip into your Hover Copter unit folder.

Boulboulgadol Oct 14, 2002, 04:56 PM Hi there !
I'm gonna need help on my new unit, the Leclerc.
It's almost done, and I'd need someone to make me really good sounds for it.

Boulboulgadol Oct 26, 2002, 02:43 AM Hi again !
My new unit is almost finished (T90) and I would need a very particular sound : the sound of a top (the toy) or a swirling object (don't ask why ;) ).
It would be great !
Thanks

Vuldacon Nov 18, 2002, 12:36 AM This Sound fits Long Range "Big Gun" Attacks due to the Nice Big sound and the after echo. It goes well with GoodWin's Turret unit. I adjusted the sound and volume for CIV III.

Ukas May 18, 2003, 01:34 PM Made these for the converted Camel unit. Now that there's bedouin unit coming perhaps sounds are needed. Basicly reverted horsewhinnys, but as far as I can remember Camels sound like it. Whinny and death sounds.
Vuldacon Jun 04, 2003, 06:45 AM Here is a Real Camel sound that is good to edit for camels. It is 1 longer .wav but good for taking parts of it for use with camel units. size: about 72 KB.
gen.dragolen Jun 25, 2003, 12:11 PM Greetings,
Been doing some work on the sound scape for the units and found some really sweet sites with a load of aircraft sounds, and weapons sounds. I'll start posting them as soon as I have them cleaned up for the game.
And the limit of a 100 kB attachment is a pain: only can get about 2/3rds of the original file in a post... Going to have to make alternate arrangements for the uploads since the file is only 4.5 seconds for 152 kB. Gotta love logistics.
D.
Incubus0223 Jun 27, 2003, 01:15 AM hey just a quick question for you guys......is there a particular program you are using to make ur sounds synch w/ the animations or how do you do this, cuz whenever i do this w/ sound recorder or other trial progs. i keep getting a different distorted sound its almost like the gun becomes a laser but anyways some quick help would be appreciated
Cimbri Jun 28, 2003, 03:17 PM Approved by Site administration
This is not unit sounds! This is music files.
Is it okay to post that here, Pablostuka?
http://www.swordandpistol.com/files.htm
For a limited time only!! On this site there are some free MP3’s by Rob Euvino. He made the music for “Stronghold” and “Crusader”.
These files would be great as an alternative music score in CIV3 ancient Mods (For personal use). I use them in my own scenarios. Check em’ out.

I have two points...
You play SPWAW? Cool. That game rocks.

Cassus_Belli Jul 18, 2003, 04:48 PM This is a very useful post.
Like others, I have a collection of sounds from numerous older games.
Talonsofts World at War series, also has many good WW2 sound effects.
I'm not sure yet if they will work with Civ3 or PTW, but they do sound great.
I will attempt to convert a few of them (according to nonnog6's previously posted instructions on this post) and see if they'll fly.
frekk, I have some of the old DOS Steel Panther games, as well.
It would be great to be able to convert all of these sound files and then have a Sound Library post, organized in a similar fashion (by appropriate period, and type of weapon, for example) as the Unit Library, in the Forum.
If anyone has successfully converted (Civilized) any of the sound files from the aforementioned games, please let us know. No since in re-inventing the wheel if someone else is already rolling!

Sims2789 Jul 30, 2003, 09:33 PM whats the deal with .amb files? what are they for and waht do they do??
Cassus_Belli Aug 07, 2003, 05:28 PM That’s a good question that I have asked myself. I believe that the .amb files are a collection of sound bites or wavs that have been arranged to run in a specific sequence or order. But I don’t have the ability to play or modify them independently so I can’t verify this. I know that the game understands them and derives a sequence of sound effects from them. If someone can direct us to a program that will allow us to play, modify, and create .amb files, as well as a program that is versatile enough to convert other Wav files into a form that Civ understands, it would be appreciated.
tjedge1 Oct 02, 2003, 05:15 PM I have been trying to figure out how to make these myself, but with no luck. I hope someone knows, as it would be extremly useful in unit making.
tjedge1 Oct 05, 2003, 05:33 PM I was wondering if anybody had any hyena sounds. Like the laughing noise they like to make.
sprnv8 Oct 12, 2003, 09:23 PM Here is your Hyena laugh sound. :)
Corn Shucker Feb 21, 2004, 02:30 PM shouldn't there be a directory made?
yoshi Mar 19, 2004, 07:48 PM This has to be one of the best, most useful threads around. Nice work Pablostuka! :)
I never really put a lot of though into Civ3 sounds until now.
If you want a good source for voices, in this case WW2, then check out the Medal of Honor sounds. They're all .wav files and MP3 files so all you have to do is change the format. Note that this includes German voices. Very useful since there's a file for every bit of speech in the game. Only problem is that the different file names are just numbers so --if you you don't speak German-- you have to go into the American section, find the appropriate sound and find the equivilant numbered file in the German section...I'm assuming (see my attachment).
Another FPS is Battlefield 1942. Can't remember if the files are in .wav format though.
I know Panzer Genral 3D ships with some good sounds (some of which are .wav files).
And of course, one of the best places for a wide selection of sounds is the Civ2 downloads section (Civ2 ain't dead yet..at least not until Civ3 gets Events ;) ).
BTW, there's actually a .wav file that I found in MOA that has a German yelling victory...I think. (I'm using this in a Civ2 scen where you get this sound whenever the Germans capture a city --pretty cool.) Would someone who speaks German be nice enough to confirm that this is in fact what he's saying? Here's the file:

I think you forgot to add the DOTzip's to the end of your filenames. ;)
ALSO: All your sounds are great stuff, but Civ III uses them sampled at 22,050 16 bit, mono, not 8.
Flak Fox Apr 11, 2004, 10:57 AM I'm not sure if this is the thread to post sound files questions, but does anyone know where I can get the WAV. file from any of the command and conquer games where the man's voice says, "Reinforcements have arrived!"
I'm working on a scenario right now for Civ III, and this sound file would be a nice addition. Any help or info is welcomed.
Thank you :D
yoshi Apr 11, 2004, 04:31 PM Just out of curiosity, how are you going to apply this to Civ3? I ask because Civ3 doesn't use a scripting language, like Civ2 does, so I can't think how you would activate the .wav file for that purpose. (I'm always interested in new applicatons that make up for lack of events.)
Flak Fox Apr 11, 2004, 06:45 PM Um, the units have their "text" file that "asks" for the sound file it should play for example, when the unit dies, runs, attacks, etc.
Simply delete whatever is in place for say, the fortify sound with the sound you wanted to add.
In my example, I want to change the paradrop sound to the, "Reinforcements have arrived." sound.
Assuming there is a paradrop sound, I didn't look, but I'll still find use for this sound.
Flak Fox Apr 11, 2004, 06:47 PM As I just figured out, "Build" represents the "Paradrop" animation and sound, so that is how it works.
yoshi Apr 11, 2004, 10:40 PM There's a specific sound for production (e.g. unit built)? Are you sure it isn't just those damn drums :D tha play when certain text messages pop-up like when a bombardment fails for instance?
Thing is, you don't want to have the 'Reinforcements have arrived' file play when a unit gets more experience or is bombarded or all of the other things the people at Firaxis 'cleverly' applied this 'generic' sound to (pardon the sour sarcasm ;) ).
If there actually is a unique sound for production completion or paradrop then yes, I can see where you would use this. (I'm embarrassed that after all this time I never bothered to notice the sound files.)
Flak Fox Apr 12, 2004, 09:00 AM LOL! Well I looked at a paradropable (try to say THAT 5 times fast...) unit, and the sound of him being paradroped is in the "BUILD=" slot---as is the animation for him being dropped. So, conclusion is, the BUILD= slot is the one for the paradrop...
yoshi Apr 12, 2004, 12:53 PM Ah, I see. Well that should work then. Good scenario idea --adds to the experience.
Hope someone other than me decides to reply to your post and tell you how to extract that file from C&C2. If you do find it, be sure to post it here in .wav format because I, at least, would be interested in something like that.
Flak Fox Apr 12, 2004, 03:07 PM lol! I think from C&C it is already in wav. format, but when/if I get it, I will post it with a few of my other sounds for a "new" unit.
Vuldacon Apr 24, 2004, 03:20 PM I created this Sound to go with the BomberBomb.flc for anyone wanting a "Strong Cluster of Bombs" type Sound for Bombing Units requiring this.
Get the Sound Zip here: size 126 KB
yoshi Apr 24, 2004, 10:36 PM Nice but I thought it to be a bit fast.
Slowed it down a bit so that the bombing sounds heavier and you can enjoy the full flavour of the bombing run. I think you'll like the result.
Vuldacon Apr 25, 2004, 12:25 PM yoshi, your slow version is ok but the BomberBomb.flc is under 2 seconds and your sound is 6.66 seconds. If you open the sound "BomberBomb.wav" that is used for the flc, you will see that it is 3.30 seconds...my MultiBomb.wav is 3.33 seconds. I tested it in the Game and it works well. I would have liked to have had a longer Bomb dropping sound before the Bombs hit but the Timing does not allow for it. I am sure the slow version can be used somewhere.
yoshi Apr 25, 2004, 01:11 PM Oh right. Nice sound either way.
The slower one would be more appropriate to a really heavy bomber unit like a B-52. It would sound awsome with powerful jet engines travelling at slow speed added.
Vuldacon Apr 25, 2004, 01:45 PM I agree yoshi...One thing that could be accomplished IF you want to use your Slower Sound is to simply Slow the BomberBomb.flc to 166 speed in Flicster and generate a New Storyboard then the New flc using that speed (Re-name the flc)...I believe this would work Exactly for the timing of your slower version and could be used for any Air Bombing unit that you want.
yoshi Apr 25, 2004, 02:25 PM That's a good tip. I may try it out...once I finally DL FLICster. ;)
frunobulax Sep 10, 2004, 03:54 PM Here's a link to the CDG Civ3 Sound forum with my new sounds for the War Camel (http://cdgroup.org/forums/tbs/civ3/viewtopic.php?p=83625#83625) unit (incl. original FLICs).
The two new sounds are CamelFortify.wav and CamelRun.wav. The other sounds used are from the standard Civ3 Horseman unit folder. Enjoy!
Rufus T. Firefly Sep 26, 2004, 11:02 AM A good death sound for industrial/modern ships: S.O.S. signal.
I have added some radio effects, so it is more realistic IMHO.

Kinboat's Goblin Hewer (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=116675)
odintheking Apr 28, 2005, 07:10 PM Well, if someone could put these sounds together to play at the same time, this would be a really cool attack sound. BTW, cool avatar, man, :goodjob:
tjedge1 Apr 28, 2005, 07:41 PM Thanks, your avatar rocks too. I'm no good with adding sounds together, but I'll look at them anyway.
Bungus May 29, 2005, 02:58 AM Don't know if anyone comes in here anymore, but I am in need of an assault rifle attack sound for Kinboat's Modern Legion. It needs a 1+ second long clip or so of a 3 round burst. I have several 3-round bursts, but they are all in quick succession (it looks silly to have muzzelflash going but no sound coming out). If anybody can edit wav's here is a clip of a 2 round burst with ideal spacing. I'd appreciate it if somebody could "copy" an extra shot at the end (and lower the volume/amplitude of the wav slightly, it is a little loud in game).

Here's your file. The first try seemed too loud still, so I made a second attempt. Each took less than 10". If it's not what you expected it's a good place to start moding sounds. Audacity which I used, comes free.

Ares de Borg Aug 15, 2005, 12:30 PM This sound should be useful for any muslim troops: God is great.
I'm using it as victory sound.
doncarlos Oct 06, 2005, 05:13 PM The sound is very nice
Orthanc Oct 06, 2005, 08:47 PM Alright, I need a large favour here, I'd preferably do this myself, but I can't due to circumstances I will explain.
I need someone that has the expansion to Warcraft 3 (that is Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne) installed on their computer to export every SOUND EFFECT from that game. Not the music or unit speeches and the like, just sound effects like footfalls, cannon shots, arrows, spells etc. Just go to your world editor, go to the sound editor, export the filesto somewhere on your machine, zip them, upload it here and you're done.
Now I do own both Warcraft 3 and the expansion myself, it's just that it's not installed on my current computer, and can't be, and the cd's are at my brother's house anyways. If I can get these sounds, I won't ever need to look anywhere for sound effects (and neither will 90% of all other unit creators) ever again, so many of those effects are so desperately needed. I know this will be a tedious process, but it'll be worth it, trust me.
So someone PLEASE see this and help out. Thanks in advance.:D
Sir espectral Oct 07, 2005, 12:17 PM Hey! I didnt know this thread!
I may upload ALL the Starcraft Bullet and Misc directories. It may be useful for futuristic mods (miniguns, misiles, alien weapons, bio weapons...)
I may upload the Death sounds from all the units too.
I might upload the voices directory, but they are in Spanish and i know there is an English version.
Shall i upload them?
Sir espectral Oct 07, 2005, 12:19 PM About the poll, I see it very useful, but it may be more if it had any type of sound classification (ej: voices, runs, builds, explosions, bullets, hits);)
Orthanc Oct 07, 2005, 02:17 PM Starcraft? Yeah sure! I do have some futuristic units in mind, eventually, and I'm sure the other creators will benefit from having those sounds. Maybe don't bother with the voices, they're kinda a bit too specific, just get the effects and stuff.
Go for it!
Sir espectral Oct 08, 2005, 04:12 AM I have clasified them by race (it is very hard to determine in other form).
These zips only contains sounds from the Bullet directory.
Forum dont let me to upload 7 files, so, i will upload later other 2 from Bullet Dir.
If you (reader) dont know starcraft, Protoss are an elder civilizations and Terran the common humans. This may help you to identify what you want to download.
Sir espectral Oct 08, 2005, 04:13 AM More Starcraft sounds...
Sir espectral Oct 08, 2005, 04:15 AM More Starcraft sounds...

Sir espectral Oct 08, 2005, 04:19 AM Space for starcraft sounds....
I prefer to upload all the files nearby. It eases a search.
I think i might have enough space.

Sir espectral Oct 10, 2005, 04:10 PM I have to upload the SCV mining. It is PERFECT for Bebro's workbee!
Blizzard sounds great! :p
doncarlos Oct 11, 2005, 12:03 PM your sound is very cool.
i would like egypt or greek sound.
Hikaro Takayama Nov 12, 2005, 12:16 PM Orthanc, I don't have the Starcraft III sounds, but I DO have all the Half-life, Counter-Strike and Day of Defeat sounds, so I can get you about a dozen different step, run and jump sounds as well as various grunts, gunshots, crossbow, explosion, and environmental sounds, not to mention all the animal and alien sounds as well (about 90% of the custom sounds I made were from this vast library of HL sounds). I could email them if you wanted any....
Orthanc Nov 12, 2005, 12:45 PM I'm mainly after all 'medieval' sounds, crossbow may be helpful, mainly I'm after various wood creaks, rattles etc, some big bow shots, more catapult stuff etc. Modern and Future sounds are set for me, since I have access to the entire Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2 sound library, which is quite awesome.
Hikaro Takayama Nov 12, 2005, 01:47 PM Shucks, there's a whole slew of Creaky wood and rattling sounds in the ambient sounds folders alone....
Roman Legion Mar 18, 2006, 10:59 AM I need some Stargate Atlantis sound's can anyone find some? I need sound's for the city of atlantis itself.

Vuldacon Nov 25, 2006, 07:09 AM To add a sound to any Unit for CIV, first make sure the sound is in .wav format or change it to .wav with a good sound program.
How to convert any .wav sound file to use for Civ3, PTW or Conquest:
On your computer, (usually found here) go to start then programs/accesories/multimedia or entertainment and click on SOUND RECORDER.
All Civ3 .wav file formats are at 22,050 Hz, 16bit Mono, 43 kb/s and Need to be set this way for proper in game use.
On the Recorder, Click on open and search for the .wav file you want to check or convert. Double left click the wav file and it will be in the Recorder.
Click on PROPERTIES. Here you will see the Audio Format of your sound listed.
On the screen you click [CONVERT NOW] Then under "Name" in this sound selection Box, use the Arrow Key and select "Radio Quality"(This is the Correct Format 22,050 Hz, 16bit Mono, 43 kb/s). Click OK then OK on the next box and save the sound as a new name or overwrite the original. Finished.
Alternately, you could search for the wav format (22,050 Hz, 16bit Mono, 43 kb/s)... [Use Arrow Button], select the format, hit ok and save. Note that you may either save as a different name or simply save and Over Write the .wav file where you found it. Note that If you exit Sound Recorder or open a nother sound, it will ask you if you want to save the sound...Finished!
Yamato Nov 29, 2006, 09:29 PM What are .amb sound files. The main attack sounds of a unit are in this format.
I do not even have a program that can play these sounds.
I tried using a .wav sound in the "Attack1=" and "Run=" slots in the unit config file (yes in the sound section of it) and this results in no sound.
So what is a .amb file? and (how is it different from .wav?)
Can a .wav be converted to .amb?
What program plays .amb files?
Where can I find .amb files? (so I can use them for units)
PS
If this has been asked and answered before, first I apoligize and second could you direct me to the answer.
BadKharma Nov 29, 2006, 10:08 PM AMB files are text documents that the game code uses in order to combine 2 or more wavs together. Unless you know the code used by the programming team you cant make your own amb files. You can use just a wav file instead, but if it isnt in the proper format 22,050 Hz, 16bit Mono, 43 kb/s it wont work properly.
Vuldacon Nov 30, 2006, 08:17 AM Yamato... as Badkharma said, .amb files are files that "program" the sequence for several sound bytes to play in a particular way.
The .amb files use the .wav files found in the same unit folder. IF you want to use the combined sounds the same as the .amb files, you can either copy all of the .wav files and the .amb file to your new unit folder or simply use links in the .ini file for your new unit. These links can use .amb or single .wav files from any unit you have. Otherwise you would just place the same .amb and .wav files into the New Unit Folder and copy the same .ini information to the new .ini.
The Links refer to the Unit Folder Name and the Name of the sound file...Be sure to spell them Exactly as they are from the existing Unit.
example:

For sounds to play with good timing, the Units need to have the same number of frames and Flc speeds as well as timing of the animation actions. You can open the Flcs in Flicster to see and read the animation information for a unit.
IF you are adding a sound to a unit by using another Unit sound, some times it will be better to just use one of the .wav files rather than the .amb file that was "Programed" to use several sound bytes for the original unit. Read the .wav file Names and you will see the sounds that are used for particular animations. Example of .amb file: The MarinesRun.amb file uses the two Foot step sounds, two Move sounds and the two Rifle sounds for the Run animation. You can Open a .amb file with WordPad to read what sounds are used but it is easy to just read the .wav sound files to see what is used.
There are many units that use a Grunt sound etc...with a Hit Sound for the Attack for example. You can use the Hit Sound only rather than the .amb that uses both the Grunt sound and Hit sound by simply linking to the Hit sound only. Just use the .wav Name for the sound you want to use there. Hope this makes sense to you...Good Luck :)
Yamato Dec 02, 2006, 09:48 PM Thanks a pile. I'm impressed, you guys on this board not only respond with good info, you do it quickly. Been getting lots of help. Thanksall :goodjob:
A new question, where is a good place to find .wav files that match the 22hz 16bit mono and 43kb/s specs?
Especially sound effects for the Ent, but other good effects for units? I have searched a number of effects sites and most effects I've found don't match the specs and they don't work:(
Heretic_Cata Feb 03, 2007, 11:55 AM Hi :wavey:
Would someone be kind enough to make a the sound part of the ini file for Shiro's Habiru (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=167928) ?
I doubt new sounds are needed. I think the normal spearman sounds would do ... but i think they need syncronisation. (i think, i'm not sure :crazyeye:)
BadKharma Feb 03, 2007, 12:13 PM Thanks a pile. I'm impressed, you guys on this board not only respond with good info, you do it quickly. Been getting lots of help. Thanksall :goodjob:

Unfortunately finding the right sampling and bit rate will be very hard to do. The best method is to use a program that allows you to change these settings yourself. You might try this one (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) for a freeware version. For a better program you will have to most likely purchase one.
Vuldacon Feb 03, 2007, 01:20 PM Yamato... The Ent by Kindred72 has Ent sounds that work well. As for the Sound Format. If you download .wav files you can directly change the specifics needed with your Windows "Sound Recorder". As BadKharma pointed out, you can get free software to change some of the sound files to the needed format. Changing the sound to the correct format is just the first step. You will need to adjust the sounds to the needed length for the animation. IF an animation is 1 second long and the sound is 2 seconds long, they will not work with timing. Not only does the sound need to be the same length as the animation but it also needs to have the sound bytes that take place within the sound match the animation. Example is when a spear hits the enemy and this hit sound is within the attack sound. It matters where the actual Hit sound is within that attack sound. Perhaps the hit sound has a .5 second delay within the 1 second attack sound used. Each sound file can have several sounds within it so the timing for exactly when an action takes place matters when making the sound to fit the animation.
Heretic_Cata... The Civ Game Spearman sounds will not match the Habiru unit because the animations have different numbers of frames and Flc speeds. The Death sound looks like it matches close enough but the others do not. The animations also have different timing for the actions taking place. The Spearman sound could be used but they would have to be altered with a sound program for timing both in length as well as the exact place where the action takes place.
Heretic_Cata Feb 05, 2007, 07:27 AM Wow - i've found so many units that don't have sounds made. :(
Oh well, maybe someone will make them untill i finish the expansion.
(some of) Those units are:
Shaolin Monk (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=103360)
Urban Forcefield (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=164281)
Landsknecht (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=103926)
I'm curious; do all the mods that use them have them mute ? I doubt it. :crazyeye:
embryodead Feb 05, 2007, 07:53 AM I've put LandsKnecht sounds in the attachment for you. Run sound works ok with SwordsmanRun.amb. Nothing fancy, if links to existing sounds are not enough (out of sync) I usually just edit the wav files so that they sync with animations. I can post more per request but I've only edited sounds for medieval & fantasy units.
