What do you guys do with Calabim in the beginning of the game? The strategy guide on the wiki suggests to avoid Moroi if possible, but what DO you build then until you get vampires? With only str 2-3 units, you'd be toast too easily, no?
I've played a few games against a friend yesterday who played the Elohim. He always pretty much raced me to OO and Trade, winning both due to starting techs and his phi trait allowing for a very early great sage. Then a few rounds later he had the giants and Saverous. What do I do against something like that as Calabim?

I normally go for FoL with calabim, so you have hunters and archers of leaves for early units, and you can always go for rangers if in need... Altough I never player multiplayer, it works pretty well in single.

What's so bad about Moroi?

I like them, I just normally don´t research bronze working... So never get to build them.

Personally, I love the Moroi. I think they're utterly awesome for when you can first get them (as long as you have access to Copper). I consider them one of the best Calabim units.
Note that the strategy guide you're looking at is one particular person's strategy; I put it up because I feel that some modestly comprehensive strategy is better than none, not because I think it's optimal, or even one that I would use. Frankly, I find Daladinn's strategies typically a bit late-game based for me; I prefer to have an overwhelming advantage by the time I get my first tier III unit.

With the free governor, you will build everything a bit faster... you're getting an extra hammer.
In sea maps I will run for OO and the Great Lighthouse and get both faster than the AI... of course against a human this could fail. If he goes for drown, you could go for hunters (strengh 3, explorers), they also get bonus against the hill giants
