As usual, the wise and all-seeing Shaitan is correct.

I am pleased that PDX will have it's own thread, as we are right on the frontier of our enemies, though rumor has it that soon, a new invincible fighting force of immortals will arrive in our town.

Hurray!

Go PDX go!

Portland? That makes me a trailblazer fan then? I'm more a soccer guy as a matter of fact...
And why can't we make our 'own' definition? Something like S.P.Q.R., time to fetch my old latin dictionary...

So, how 'bout some city defence?

P.S. Is Bill_in_PDX now our official mascotte:D ?

The citzens of PDX congratulate their mayor crabapple for being the first mayor to open a thread for his people. These actions reenforce the democracy in Phoaenatica and also the pioneerism of PDX people.

crabapple
Apr 16, 2002, 01:31 AM
thanks all:)

Yes some defence in PDX would be nice, right now it is only 3 warriors to protect the city from the evil Americans. But a Spearman is under production and in 2 turns it is ready to defend the city

Shabbaman
Apr 16, 2002, 06:53 AM
Those warriors can't be upgraded to immortals right? 'Cause they're UU, or is that possible under the 1.17 patch?

In other words, we're stuck with cannon fodder. Nice. Go spearman go!

Say, wouldn't it be nice to see a nice picture of our beautiful city in our thread? Inventory, city view...would do it myself, but I can't get that savegame to work properly...

eyrei
Apr 16, 2002, 07:09 AM
The warriors in PDX cannot be upgraded because the city is not connected to iron at the request of the military department.

Cyc
Apr 16, 2002, 07:12 AM
Excellent idea about the bird's-eye view, shabbaman.

Apr 17, 2002, 02:33 AM
Greetings fellow citizens!

It is apparent that PDX is the most innovative city of our Empire. I would like to congratulate ourselves with that fact.

What are those pesky Americans doing in our territory? Are those bureaucrats in the military department taking an extremely long coffee break or what?!? (Sorry, I'm a bit frustrated 'cause our entire government quitted yesterday)

2 pesky americans: "Run away, run away!"

crabapple
Apr 17, 2002, 09:30 AM
Here is a upgraded inventory on PDX I dont post city view becouse it hasenŽt changed. We should have an other defence unit. A Spearman is to little and an other unit would make our people happy.

Shabbaman
Apr 17, 2002, 09:34 AM
I agree. Can the immortal stay in PDX?

Maybe after that we could poprush us a library. Not that I don't like my neighbours, but apparently some of them ar unhappy. Besides that, our city can grow fast. And with a library the people will flock to us 'cause of our superior culture!

On micromanagment: why are we acquiring resources from the tile due south, when we can acquire resources from the tile located 2 north and 1 west, with the grain and mine?

Citizen_K
Apr 17, 2002, 05:17 PM
As a citizen of PDX, I do not think we should keep the immortal in our city. We must sacrifice for the war effort! Our armed forces must launch heroic offensives, not play "Home Guard." We don't want our general called "the King of Spades," do we?

Who cares if the drones riot?
Our fellow happy PDX'ers will dutifully kick the crap out of them.:D
:sniper:

crabapple
Apr 18, 2002, 05:08 AM
Here is 3 reasons to have the immortal that the city is building in the city.

1.We get more defence one Spearman is not enough a warrior can reach the city and win on random over that Spearman.

2. We can counter-attack if evil forces are near.

3.It makes the People happy

Shabbaman
Apr 18, 2002, 06:05 AM
Mayor, you are sooooo right!

I think it is vital to have a unit capable of pre-emptive strike, because we don't want intruders pillaging our wheat-fields. But my question on the micromanagment issue is still unanswered: is it a dumb question or should I post it in another thread.

By the way, I have a petition for adjustment of the tavern-closing times; last night, I was kicked out of the pub even before I was completely drunk, for city regulations required it to close *early*.

It's a disgrace.

I mean:  , right?

crabapple
Apr 18, 2002, 08:54 AM
Yes we should change that about the micromanagement thing we would get more of everything if you used that spot there we have a mine and wheat, instead of that spot with nothing on it.
I will add that to my suggestions in the city summeries thread.

Thats a bad thing about the pub:D that they must close early.... hehe

New upgrade on PDX:

Shabbaman
Apr 19, 2002, 05:03 PM
Nice wallpaper mayor!

I think we gotta get ourselves a connection to philly for acces to iron... I'm sorry I can't start the 'Go PDX' propaganda before monday, when I can hook up to my university computer with broadband internet.

This sucks.

Greetings,

Think I'm gonna play CIV3 instead...:goodjob:

crabapple
Apr 20, 2002, 10:51 AM
Shabbaman: Yes I also hate slow connections they are soo annoying.

We will soon have a scientific revoultion in our great nation thanks to the great Libary, next turn we will reach the middle ages an become even greater nation:king:

crabapple
Apr 21, 2002, 02:16 AM
Here is an upgrade. Lots have happen we are now in the middle ages thanks to the great Libary, right now we have our great Leader in the city. HURRAY HURRAY.

On a micromangement note why are we not using the wheat this would allow PDX to become even bigger.

Shabbaman
Apr 22, 2002, 03:06 AM
Maybe we could use that leader to create a promenade alongside the river.

It'd be great! Lotsa pubs and dancings, festivities all night long...it'd be a WONDER OF THE WORLD:

The perpetual feast of PDX!

Yes. The Mortal Immortal will be opening tonight at 23:00GMT! There will be plenty of free booze for everyone to celebrate the fact that PDX is no longer a border town!

Also, the law forcing pubs to close early has been decriminalized, so the party will continue through the night.:D

"Sir! The peasants are revolting!"
"I quite agree, those disgusting little buggers. Why don't they learn to use napkins sometime...." :D

In my experience, you can't recover from anarchy without first quieting the riots in your various cities. Our first priority should be to settle the riots before they happen, and thusly expediate our revolution.

So someone get to it!

Suggestion: I think PDX would be a good spot for haveing the forbidden palace, currently it would take only 9 turns to build it.

rangers85
May 12, 2002, 06:05 PM
What's up everyone? We should form a city sports team and show those other cities who's boss :)

Shabbaman
May 13, 2002, 06:18 AM
We should. Besides that, we should campaign for either the forbidden palace or just moving our capital to our great city!

And why not? Isn't PDX better placed than Fox' nest?

PDX RULES THE WORLD!

crabapple
May 13, 2002, 06:25 AM
hehe:) I think it is more likely to have a forbidden palace in PDX instead of the real capital I dont think our president want to move it.
Yeh PDX does indeed rule:D

Upgraded screenshot and once again I think that we should build forbidden palace here.

Shabbaman
May 13, 2002, 06:35 AM
As long as we are NOT moving our capital, I think that there might be better locations for the FP, because our city is located fairly close to the capital and therefore will not experience high corruption factors. We could build a courthouse however.

And a pub.

crabapple
May 16, 2002, 09:23 AM
But we already have an pub the mortal immortal, shall we have 2 pubs?
Here is an upgrade as you can see is that the university will be done in 2 turns and be the first city in our great nation to have an university, then IŽam intend to build a marketplace and then a bank to do our city very rich.

Shabbaman
Jun 03, 2002, 02:55 AM
Go PDX go! Check that... looks like the end of the prohibition to me!

Now on more serious matter: micromanagement. Crabapple, can you fix this?
We could change production from one of the mountain areas to the irrigated plains. The workers could irrigate the other plains, or/and Pherris could produce on one of the mountainous areas instead of the irrigated plains they now occupy (within our communal borders: they should pay tribute for that!!!)...
Production will be somewhat lower (although the net effect might be lower due to current corruption), but our magnificent city would increase is size: on the long run, production can be maximized this way.

PDX must think of its future.

crabapple
Jun 03, 2002, 10:07 AM
About that square that Pherris uses it most use or it will starve. But about the plains, so i can change that there the mine is under construction can swith to the irrigated square, and we need a worker to irrigate the last square.
I will say this when I post next building queues for next turn chat so it will be changed.

Looks like PDX has had it's workers reset

It needs to Produce now, not grow much. I imagine the Library and the Temple would be finished in 1-2 turns, and the figures for the University and Cathedral would be simular, so military production could start very quickly.

Some of those workers on food tiles should be moved to the Mountains.

Have a heart General - let PDX recover it's population. As PDX grows the news laborers will work those mountains. In the mean time the other Norman cities as well as the Istar cities will build forces for you. BTW, isn't Civanatoria, with its ironworks, a top production center, too?

The workers will not change, every time the city grows more production it is going to get. It stays and none will change it, the military have no power over worker squares

Please don't get defensive. I was only making a suggestion as a concerned citizen. I understand as military leader I have no true power over worker assignment. I just figured since PDX only lost one pop point it wasn't that important to increase PDX's growth rate just yet, I understand Higher population = Higher production.

Please, NEVER assume I'm giving out orders to you, if I held no official position I still would have made the post I made.

I felt the prioirty at the moment was to rebuild the Culture as soon as possible and then get to military production. If you disagree with my opinion, I can't force you to do what I feel would be best for the time. But please don't get defensive when I offer my opinion.

EDIT: A suggestion since you feel growth is a priority, why don't you try to get a Granary rushed in PDX? This would make sure you can grow twice as fast, by rushing it you only delay the Culture buildings 1-2 turn(s). Or you could even rush it after the culture is complete.

ok, IŽam just a bit angry over what happen to PDX. Sorry for assuming you giving orders. About the rushing thing so I can write in the next tiurn chat thread that if they feel like rushing a improvement they do it.

We could build that granary in a very short time, no need to waste valuable funds on that.

Thanks donsig!

PDX, I am proud of all the citizens here. Look back at all of the important wonders and contributions we have made to Phoenatica.

Further, this thread itself is testiment to the importance of our city. It is one of the longest running threads in our history, stemming back to the earliest days of our civilization, when a hearty band of folk set out across the hills from Fox Next in search of the open plains that had to be on the other side.

Find those open spaces we did indeed, and in the process, set in motion the establishment of our eastern foundation for success. In those days the Americans and Egyptians...yes, those same societies that now share in our riches...were threating the population of our small town every day.

Now, PDX can be accurately called the cultural, science, and wonder center of our great Civilization.
