As the new mayor of Fox Nest I want to welcome all residents of our nation's capitol to the offical Fox Nest thread. Feel free to air any of your civic concerns in this thread and remember that I am here to serve.

My first official act as mayor of Fox Nest was to tour the construction site of our great project, the Pyramids, and I offer the following report.

Construction is on schedule and, as far as we can tell, on budget . As you all know the Pyramids will be a great big pile of stones assembled in such a way that they will stand for thousands of years. This will make us Phoenatics 'cultured'.

Since some have decried the usefulness of this great endeavor the construction plans have been modified slightly. the Pyramids will still be a great big pile of stones meant to last for thousands of years but it has been decided that they will be hollow. This will allow the Pyramids to have a usefulness in addition to the bringing of 'culture' to us.

One idea being bandied about is to use the Pyramids to store grain for our country. Given the size of the structures it is estimated that enough grain could be stored in the Pyramids to enable our country's population to grow dramatically with a speed that would be unmatched by any other country. Supporters of this idea argue that population equals strength.

Another idea is to fill the Pyramids with all the scrolls and tablets and such that we can gather in an attempt to amass all the knowledge of the world. Supporters of this idea argue that knowledge equals strength. (BTW, if this option is decided upon we would call the Pyramids the Great Library.)

A third idea is to fill the Pyramids with Vestal Virgins who can tell the future. In this case we would call the Pyramids the Oracle!

Whichever option is finally chosen those who work on the Pyramids welcome the change to hollowness since it means less rocks have to be used. One worker, who asked to remain anonymous, said, "It takes 10,000 of us a whole day to move one of those huge blocks just 13 cubits. And if someone calls in sick we just can't get anything done!" The same worker also called for captured American slaves to be used on the construction site and urged that we procure more of them.

Mr. Mayor,

As a proud citizen of Fox Nest, I just want to implore you to use your considerable influence to force an end to this bloody war, before innocent citizens like me are put into harm's way. We need time to grow to be the most powerful civilization on the planet, but this war will set us back hundreds of years. As mayor, our protection is your profession. Do your best!:cry:

Our government has heard the people's cry for peace and they are committed to bringing and honorable end to (most of) these wars. I will do my part as mayor to urge them towards an honorable peace but in the mean time we all must pull together in the war effort.

I do want to assure the citizens of Fox Nest that they are in no danger what-so-ever. There are no enemies near our great city. In fact the fighting will be done in the lands of our enemies!

I'm a little worried we may lose out to a religous civ.What would be great would be to have a leader to rush build the Pyramids.

Sad news my dear fellow citizens. The evil Iroquois have built the Pyramids. We shall turn our project into a Great Library!

Oops! Keep forgetting about lakes. Glad the gods (programmers) figured out that salt water is bad for the crops. Now if only my exploring warriors would learn to taste the water to find out if they've discovered an ocean or a really big lake.

Thank God!! I've been waiting for a new spearman factory. Our offensive production seems to be running smoothly and swiftly, but we need more defences, esp. in the south and east.

JackRules: If you want to be a curator go to a museum. You can be the Great Librarian though. Your first job is to find out who moved away from our city and revoke his Great Library Card!;)

I intend to confer with the president about instituting a national social security program. I want to be sure us older folks don't become a burden on the youngsters.;)

The Heroic Epic has been built in our fair city and it will ensure that Fox Nest remains the greatest city in the world!

We are currently using our surplus food to allow us to produce immortals faster. Our president has assured us that he is monitoring our food situation and that the citizens of Fox Nest need not fear starvation.

One of our republic's first marketplaces is now open for business in our great city!

We are currently building a cathedral to bring even more happiness and culture to our fine city.:)

I recently posted in the Province of Istar thread, but I will echo my comments here. I urge the construction of a University in my home town of Fox Nest. Now that the Great Library's time has passed, our people yearn for opportunities to continue their Education, and we must give them those opportunities! Building the University will take only slightly longer than one Knight (7 vs. 5 turns), then we can return to Knight production.

Our university is almost complete!:grad:

After is is built we will recruit another band of knights and then begin construction of a bank to store our gold.

I am still mayor of Fox Nest and I'm happy to report that soon we will have another great wonder in our fine city! It's just like the old days. Remember the Pyramids or Great Library debate? Well, now we have the Smith's Trading Co. or Newton's University debate! I urge all citizens of Fox Nest to make their preference known to the term three government!

As mayor I urge the building of Newton's University in Fox Nest. This city has traditionally been the scientific research center of Phoenatica (and the world!). We should keep this tradition alive!

Newton's I hope, If so we'll be the most important scientific place in the world, just would need SETI or Theory of Evolution and it would be that way for the rest of the world's history.

We are currently building one of Phoenatica's first factories!

Our factory is up and running and the railroading frenzy has reached our city. Citizens of Fox Nest can now ride the rails all the way to Philadelphia. After a short wagon trip to New York the journey to Seattle on the east coast can becompleted by train. Soon Istar to Ameri excursions will be possible without changing trains!

Our scientists are now working on a new theory of the origins of life. It is hoped that once this theory is comlpeted Fox Nest will once again be recognized as the science capital of the world. Currently, we have competiton from Salamanca (site of Coprnicus's Observatory) and Nineveh (home of Newton's University).

As mayor, I am considering a petition to rename Fox Nest to Phox Nest. I would certainly like to hear the thoughts of our citizens on this proposal.

We are working on a top secret Phoenatic Intelligence Agency and will soon be working on specialized medical procedures to be used on the battlefield. :)
