View Full Version : The 'Smiley' Icons
ParanoidPig Jan 27, 2007, 03:56 AM Hello,
I'm looking for the tiny smiley 'mood' icon mod that you can have above your cities. Could someone point me to the apppropriate link, i've tried looking but don't know which it is.
Thankyou
PP
Virtual Alex Jan 27, 2007, 05:25 AM That sounds darn useful. Never seen it though.
nerovats Jan 27, 2007, 06:05 AM Do you mean this one?

Hmm, could well be. I see there's something similar on the front page of this web-site featuring the SGOTM 12......Is that the one you've just linked for me?
Cheers

nerovats Jan 27, 2007, 12:43 PM No this one gives citizens a smily, that way is easier to tell if citizens are happy/or cities will fall in disorder. It doesn't match your description exactly but is the only thing I know that comes close.

OH, that one!
I have 2 different mods for you!
here is one: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=72912
Here is an other one: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=68971
The second one displays the bonus yield as wel, but that does clutter the map a bit more, and is not realy needed once you learn their bonuses by heart. But its your choice.
Have fun.
Virtual Alex Jan 28, 2007, 03:42 PM I was way off.
I thought you meant a smiley telling if a city is happy or on the verge of riot. That would be SO USEFUL.

@MAS, a BIG thank you from me as well. I've been wondering where to find that first one for a very long time.
Mirc Jan 29, 2007, 04:27 AM Ignore this post.

Thanks for your help :)
Mirc Jan 29, 2007, 05:10 AM No. The links above are for adding nice labels to resources. There is no mod, of which I know, to do such thing. And actually I'm a modder myself and I can't think of a way you could do this. :(
gmaharriet Jan 30, 2007, 08:57 AM @MAS, I downloaded the mod from the link and installed it in my "terrain" folder, but the icons still aren't showing on the resources in my games. Any idea what I may be doing wrong? Could it be because I have CivIII Complete, rather than Conquests as the separate expansion pack?
Mirc Jan 30, 2007, 09:22 AM No, graphics files work for any type of civ.
You installed it in the wrong place. You have to unzip it in YourConquestsFile* -> Art, and it should replace the file resources.pcx and maybe even resources_shadows.pcx. The resources are not in Art -> Terrain... ;) They are all in just 1 file.
* doesn't matter if you have complete. You still have different folders for Vanilla, PTW and Conquests, right?

This is what my directory looks like with the "resources.pcx" added. I see that there is also a file named "landmark_terrain.pcx". Should that be over-written with the resources file?
Edit: sorry for the bad quality of the pic. I compressed it to make it smaller, but it's hard to read. :(

Mirc Jan 30, 2007, 09:54 AM No, LandMark has nothing to do with this, it's a kind of non-random new terrain with restricted possibilities, that acts like the original. No need to mess with that one.
So you overwrote the resource.pcx, restarted Civ/Civ Editor and there is no change?
gmaharriet Jan 30, 2007, 09:56 AM Sorry for the double post. I found another "terrain.pcx" file directly under Conquests/Art, as well as a "terrain_shadow.pcx". They were created in the year 2003, so they must be the original ones, right? Do I need to replace one or both of them???
Edit: I think I'm x-posting with you.
No, I didn't overwrite. I just added the file, but I think in the wrong area. I have to leave for work now, but I'll work with it tonight. Thank you for your help!!!!! :)
Mirc Jan 30, 2007, 10:29 AM If you downloaded a file called "resources_shadows.pcx", replace that one too. But if you don't, no need to rename the resources.pcx and replace it, it will actually screw up the resources graphics. ;)
Yes you need to replace the original ones, and start Civ3/Civ3 Editor again (the graphics are loaded in your computer's memory when you start the program, so they won't magically change in Civ even if you change the file :D).

Thank you, thank you!!! I finally got them working. There really are 2 different places that have files named "resources.pcx". One is under the vanilla area and the other under conquests/art. It didn't work with the file under vanilla (kept telling me my Civ disk was missing), but in the conquests directory I renamed the "terrain.pcx" file to "terrainBackup.pcx" and then copied the "terrain1.pcx" into the directory...then I removed the "1" from the copied file, and now it works just fine. :D I've left the renamed backup file there...just in case I change my mind someday. :crazyeye:
I've wanted this mod for the longest time, so I'm really excited about it. :bounce:
