You would have to ask the map maker....the ViSa Team has nothing to do with these.

Bastian-Bux Mar 31, 2007, 02:11 AM Well, with ViSa_v3 hanging over our heads, here it is, the first ViSa_v3 map:
Europe, Tiny (40*40), 27 civs
Its an adaption of part of Genghis Kais Giant Earth map. Enjoy.
biship Mar 31, 2007, 06:22 AM Is smartmap perchange included or will someone have to adapt it for 3.0?
Bastian-Bux Mar 31, 2007, 09:41 AM There is a ViSa smartmap afaik.
Bastian-Bux Mar 31, 2007, 12:04 PM And here the European map again, with only one important change:
- 3 plot city radius
To accomodate for this severall starting points had to be moved:
Austria moved 1 W
Byzanz moved 1 SE
France moved 1 E
Greece moved 1 SW
Russia moved 1 N
Troy moved 1 S
Ukraine moved 2 E
This way all 27 civs can found at least their starting town ^^.

Will those maps work with visa 3.0 ??
rockinroger Apr 01, 2007, 12:58 AM @konserw, try the 2 maps by bastian they work i just tried both the 2 plot and 3 plot ones. as for the other i dont think they work yet for visa 3 or ask the creators.
Bastian-Bux Apr 01, 2007, 01:18 AM Most of the linked maps are from me. And no, they don't work for ViSa 3 yet.
Atm I'm testplaying the two Europe maps to get a feel for the flow. So any feedback is extremely welcome. Once I polished this Europe map (its basically the same map, with just some civ shuffling to accomodate for the 3-plot cityradius), I'll go on with more of this maps, till I filled the whole Giant Earth map.
Preytor Apr 01, 2007, 03:08 AM any luck on an earth map for ViSa 3? :)
strategyonly Apr 01, 2007, 04:57 AM OK i made a new version of the old map of Earth, for V3, but i do not have any starting points or extra(new) resources on it, what do you want me to do??
EDIT: Just re-did, Bastian-Bux, (17 starting civs) earth map above for version 3 also, if anyone wants that?? Hope he doesnt mind??
Bastian-Bux Apr 01, 2007, 05:59 AM I don't mind. ^^
Oh, as information to players: it seems MrGenie played his own april fools joke. In my current game everyone and his granny hates the duchies. ^^ For a moment I thought I was playing Total Realism. :D
strategyonly Apr 01, 2007, 06:11 AM OK then i will up load them.
I have made no changes to these maps,
the first one you need to put the civs where you want them and the resources also, ok
Then on the second one i made NO changes to it, just made it so you can play V3, ok.
Read my SIG, HINT HINT!!

TAfirehawk Apr 01, 2007, 06:22 AM Thanks guys, putting links in first post :)
Preytor Apr 01, 2007, 06:28 AM Thx for those maps. :)
What is the second one like? Do Civs or resources spawn in correct locations?
I'm can't wait for the Earth I talked to Bastian-Bux about.
The Civs and resources spawning in the correct locations and what not.
Bastian-Bux Apr 01, 2007, 08:28 AM Preytor, the incorporation of my planter mod will still need some more time, as mrGenie has to make a separate dll for this.
About the two european maps:
Just played the 3-cityradius one for several hours. Despite its small size (only 40x40) and my new RAM (now at 2 GB) i got a MAF in 1800 BC. ^^
So you have been warned. :D

The MAF fix is not a fix...and still not done....
Although we played well over 100 games on all speeds and all map sizes with maybe 1%-2% MAF's....and they could all be loaded and continue the game.
Bastian-Bux Apr 01, 2007, 09:03 AM ^^, I'll try that.
But as it is the 1st of april today, I thought I'd give you a funny map as well:
European girly power!
AND HEEEEERE THEY COME.
In the center position nobody less then your royal highness the blody Mary-Theresa of Austria. With the highest battle weight she might prove an hard nut to break open, and in her age it should be hard to follow the old saying "you happy Austria marry".
But her contenders are young, fresh, and beautiful. Close by, just a hop over the Bosporus Theodora of Byzantium is waiting for her chance to grab all that belongs rightfully to the (east)roman-empire. Sitting on an almost endless pile of marble she will throw in some shiny dice as well.
On the opposite side of the ring a veteran of several fights, nobody less then Elizabeth of England waits for her chance to show those continentals how a real lady spices up the fight. Well, lets hope she doesn't follow english cooking traditions.
Another heavy hitter is found in the upper right corner. Catherine of Russia, who nobody calls "russian mischka" twice. Having access to seemingly endless forests, who knows what she has under her skirt?
And last but not least, her christian highness, domesticator of husband and andalusian muslims alike: Isabella, Queen of Spain.
Now, who's foolish enough to go for it? A whole (albeit small) continent is for the taking for the girl that has the power.

Looking very much forward to your release!
I'll just wait patiently with my ViSa3 and try some stuff out.
Thx for ViSa 3 too TAfirehawk and team!! :D
Bastian-Bux Apr 03, 2007, 11:47 AM A new map just arrived. It my v1.00 of the Giant Earth map for ViSa.
It can be found here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=212953).
Be warned though: its 200x80, 30 civs. you'll learn to hate MAFs even given the workaround. ^^
Any suggestions are welcome. If you somehow manage to get into the genetic era, please tell me if it needs more sea resources (I might add a few hundred more ^^).
PS: All of the maps I make from Giant Earth will be downloadable for now from that link, as not to clutter this thread. Once I figured out how to place the maps on the ViSa page, they'll go there.

You guys F#$%# ROCK!! :D
HitAnyKey Apr 06, 2007, 12:10 AM Could someone explain the SmartMap for ViSa? What it is, what it does, and how to use it? I know I saw something somewhere about it, but I can't find it anymore and I don't even know where to unzip it to after downloading it from the ViSa website.
Bastian-Bux Apr 23, 2007, 11:40 AM Sorry for my long absence. We relocated. And while it was only 400m as the bee flies, Deutsche Telekom needed 2 weeks (and an angry reminding) to relocate our telephone and internet connection.
As soon as I have back my working desc, I'll start work on the maps again.
Btw, good news for all freaks: I've got 3 GB RAM and a nice 22" TFT now, so maps can only get bigger'n better. ^^

Good to have you back at work on the maps - hope the paint dried on your desk - as i know you just repainted it. :)
Conqueror Worm Apr 28, 2007, 10:54 PM I would like to suggest that a map maker adapt the pantastic worlds earth map to visa. It is a beautiful, huge world map, but not nearly so large as the giant earth that has already been adapted by bastain-bux, yet considerably larger than the other earth map by strategyonly.
I find it to be a great map for my 3200, 2000 ram machine - no ctds, but still large enough to dream on.
Thanks
Raider62 May 25, 2007, 04:18 PM Have tried using smartmap but the maps it builds lag. When we just use the stock maps its fine. Any idea's?
We are keeping it at the regular size and not oversizing it or anything. We just like the variety of choices smartmap offers and wish we could use it without lag.

We don't really work on or support any maps....no idea why it would lag but it must be adding something that is causing loops in the code to make enough slow down to notice, probably something not supported in ViSa.

Vader1025 Jun 08, 2007, 11:29 PM I've spent the better part of 3 hours looking for a huge Earth Map that works for Visa.
I see a few but NONE of them have America as a civ.
Where can I find one with America as a civ AND, hopefully, in the right area.
If there are none, how can I change an existing map to have America?
I LOVE Visa and Civ 4 but one thing I can't believe-about Civ 4 in general-is the lack of choice of Earth maps.
Bastian-Bux Jun 09, 2007, 05:44 AM By America you mean the US of A, right? Sorry, I'm always a bit missled by the oxymoron "civilization America".
About your question: severall of my map adaptions could easily have the "americans" added. All you have to do is replace a civilization with the Americans.
How to do so?
Download the Giant Earth map for ViSav3 linked in the first post of this thread.

Another way would be, if there are unused slots left, to add the civ there instead of replacing. In the map mentioned above this isn't possible though, as only 30 civs are acceptable.
This way should work for all maps and civs, thats why I posted this instead of doing the adaptions for you ;). Plus most maps I made have no place for civs with a "rich history of 200 years" ;), given that Civ4 plays over 6000 years.

Nitro_2985 Jun 11, 2007, 12:15 PM Is there anything I need to do to get that giant earth map to work?
I tried putting it into my public maps folder in the warlords directory, but whenever I try to start up a game, it says I've lost and goes through the scoreboard and the other parts of a lost game.
I don't even get to finish one turn.

I've not had that happen. I just have the MAF almost immediately.
rockinroger Jun 11, 2007, 03:42 PM @nitro_2985, did you have a problem with the giant earth map download?
Try using the map again and see if that was just a one time thing. If it still does it then maybe you had a bad download.
Nitro_2985 Jun 11, 2007, 04:04 PM Nope, I've tried downloading it a few times and every time the game is able to load it, I just loose before I can take even one turn.
I'm also able to open it in mapview. I checked for errors and none were found.
I tried running the visa installer again and doing "repair" in case I had changed some settings that I shouldn't have.
I even tried completely uninstalling warlords (but not civ 4 vanilla) and reinstalling with no other mods except for visa. No luck.

Nitro_2985 Jun 11, 2007, 06:54 PM I just did that and I still got the same result.

On a somewhat interesting note, for that screenshot there, I had selected for the game length just below 2000 turns, but the screen there says that 2500 turns are alloted for the game.

That may be the problem....Grand Speed was reduced from 2500 to 2000 turns.....the map would need to be fixed for the current v3.10 game speed.
Nitro_2985 Jun 11, 2007, 09:25 PM Nope, bringing it down to 2000 by editing the save file with wordpad didn't work.
Maybe it just isn't compatible anymore. Have you guys tried it to see if it is? If it doesn't work for any of you, maybe you can move it down off of the compatible list of maps.
rockinroger Jun 12, 2007, 04:11 AM @Nitro, I get the same result as you do. The you have been defeated b4 playing. Perhaps the map maker has the keys to fixing this.

Yeah, that does work. I'm doing a bit of editing myself to that map, putting in America and I'm also looking at India and China, which seem to have waaaaaay too many resources for their land area (I counted about twice as high of a density in a sample area of China as in the same sized sample area in North America) so I might lower the number of special resources available to China and India if after running through a game they get to be way too powerful.
I'll give credit to Bastian-Bux if I do decide to post my version of his map though.

Great work Deds. I can confirm that changing those 2 lines does allow the map to work.
Its would be even nicer to have a giant earth map that allows for random civs. Any map makers up for that challenge?

But I am sure at least 3-4 people here who have done it can help you out.
Bastian-Bux Jun 13, 2007, 02:07 AM First, try to set the number of civs to 30, not 36. Yes, that means you have to deleted any trace of civ 30-35. ANY trace, this includes not only the team and civ entries, but also everything found if searching for "unitowner=3*", and "teamreveal=3*"
rockinroger Jun 17, 2007, 12:08 PM @Bastian Not trying to step on any toes but i updated the Visa Earth 100x56 map to work with visa3.1. I took out all references to 31-35 and it works.
rockinroger Jun 17, 2007, 09:38 PM I found a earth map that is in a py file that seems to work great with Visa 3.1 also. Going to test it some tommorrow to make sure it works and perhaps tweak it for visa. The good thing for a python file is that it can be loaded up through the custom game screen instead of the scenarios. Right now im testing 30 civs and seems fine 61 of 510 turns.
rockinroger Jun 20, 2007, 05:10 PM Here is a Earth map that i found that works good. The link is here, http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=184377. It was made by GRM7584. So credits goes to him. It is a python map so you can work it from custom game instead of scenarios.
Tark Jun 21, 2007, 10:55 PM 3 Earth maps that work with ViSa3.1
ViSa3 Earth map 100x56 19 civz: http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=5936
ViSa3 Earth map 52x32 18 civz: http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=5942
ViSa3 Earth map 52x32 9 civz: http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=5941
All 3 have been tested multiplayer with good results. I recommend either of the 52x32 maps for systems with 1gb or less ram, altho I know of one person running the larger map with 1gb.
rockinroger Jun 22, 2007, 02:45 PM Great work Tark. we appreciate your efforts.
blipadouzi Jun 22, 2007, 10:44 PM Umm...stupid question.
What folder should I be putting these maps into for them to show up in the map selection window?

all maps go into your public map folder. If it is a world builder save you access them through scenarios. If its a python map then you can access them through the custom game screen. Good to see you back blip. Great job on the tech sound quotes.

We don't do maps....but I am sure there is plenty of info in the main Creation & Customization forum for Civ4.
Stecki Jun 25, 2007, 10:06 AM ok, i found a description that might be usefull. i will try it next weekend.:)
... oh and thanks for that excellent VISAmod. thats how civ 4 should have been at its release date. since i know VISA i don't want to play the regular game anymore. only things i miss are jdog500's mod components barabarian civ and revolution.
Kasdar Jun 29, 2007, 07:55 PM can someone be kind enough to post me a link to the smartmap for ViSa?
TAfirehawk Jun 29, 2007, 08:42 PM visa.family-veldman.com the Main ViSa Website.

Thank you very much TAfirehawk.
BTW Excellent work on the mod. I have almost solely played FfH since I bought the game but wanted to try something different and this is an excellent choice. Also gets some use out of the Warlords expansion I thought I wasted my money on.
Tark Jul 03, 2007, 12:53 AM I don't do maps.
However, I'm a multiplayer addict who enjoys realistic ancient start scenarios on earth maps, and I have had success with scenario editing. I'm willing to put a little time into editing the small earth (52x32) and standard earth (100x56) maps if anyone comes up with a concept that sounds appealing.
I'll entertain ideas on resource placement, civ choice/placement, starting techs/units, and terrain. Also if there is enough interest, I'll do a version of small earth (52x32) that requires astrology for intercontinental travel.
I think it may be worth mentioning that I only do a limited amount of testing of my scenarios in singleplayer, since they're designed primarily for my addiction, online multiplayer. While I'm on the subject, I invite anyone to add me to your buddy list (Tarkus) and look me up for some online ViSa play. I think I'm online more than any other civver in the world so I shouldn't be hard to find. Hope to see you in a MP ViSa game soon.

Is there any way I can add or replace civilizations to this game since whenever I try to replace a civ with another one it just deletes the existing civ and doesn't seem to replace it with the one I'm putting in its place.
Thanks

I think this map lacks some oil in the SW US and Alaska and some Oil in the Venezuela area just FYI.
Though I find it funny it has lemons in the tundra.
Anyhow great map.
HG_CassiusA Jul 12, 2007, 01:28 AM Here is my situation: I have used the BMP to WBS converter to successfully create a map of Isla Sorna (Site B from Jurassic Park), and the map will load and work properly in the Warlords WorldBuilder, but when loaded into Visa, it causes the game to crash. Is there anything in Visa that would cause this kind of sensitivity, and if so, how would I fix it as far as my map is concerned?
EDIT: Never mind, I believe I have determined the cause of the problem.
Gr3yHound Jul 17, 2007, 06:31 AM I'm also able to open it in mapview. I checked for errors and none were found.
MapView“s current error checking does only for very essential syntax checks, definately not taking any logical errors into error consideration.
