Here we can discuss what kind of XML-settings (handicap, leaders etc.) we use with BetterAI with what an effect.

(Look at http://sourceforge.net/docman/display_doc.php?docid=37200&group_id=178407 for standard handicaps summary)

I think maybe we should introduce a memory decay value for declaring wars because wars became much more common with BetterAI latest builds fortunately and it's maybe not too right to stack up all these negative modifiers forever.

I don't know what are the lines for that memory decay because by default they last forever so there's no such line in leaderheads for this but i think there is a formula for it just not used.

What are your opinions?

At first, can you put in the first post the full Vanilla handicap? That would be nice as a form of fast reference to discuss aorund here.

Probably there is(are) some image(s) with it somewhere around this forum, like the one Blake posted about the agressiviness of the AIs.

Personally I would remove all permanent negative modifiers, I mean, I would make them transitory (but longlasting) and perhaps with a higher impact (war +4 but with the possibility of dissapearing at some point). Actually I made a mod some time ago that made all negative modifiers transitory.

Anyway, maybe this is out of the scope of the mod, but it may be interesting to create an array of suplementary mods.

Yes maybe just for our pleasure not to include in the BetterAI package.

How you made 'declared war' and 'declared war on friend' transitory?
I don't know the lines to use in leaderheads for this.

The diplomacy modifiers of course control the behaviour of the AI up to a point, so that is an argument to say that the BetterAI mod should take a look at diplomacy modifiers. Especially if the modding of the AI has led to some imbalance of diplomacy modifiers.

Personally, I think that none of the diplomacy modifiers should be permanent. But some should be extremely longlasting. The diplomacy modifiers and the memory decay of these modifiers should be chosen in such a way that the AI behaves in a natural and smart way. Should the AI hate someone who has been at war with them for 100 turns more or should they hate someone who has been at war with them 2 times for 10 turns more? In the present diplomacy modifiers 2 war declarations count as a permanent -6, while 1 counts as a permanent -3, independant of the length of the wars and independant on the passage of time since the wars. Not extremely logical and it might also not be the smartest way to look at it.

Just use the same description found in the in the memorydecay field as in the memoryattitude.

So can I use the Warlords Diplomacy Revamped CIV4LeaderHeadInfos.xml with BetterAI? It works okay with no conflicts? I just copy CIV4LeaderHeadInfos.xml to my Warlords\Assets\XML\Civilizations folder?

No, you want to copy it to the following folder:

My Documents\My Games\Warlords\CustomAssets\XML\Civilizations

Don't overwrite the installed file in the main folder! If you put it in your CustomAssets folder, it will always get loaded "over" the installed one, but you can also remove it any time if you don't like it without any problems. And yes, it shouldn't conflict with any other files.

Thanks, Tiberias.

So has anyone here played a game with the new xml file? Is there a noticable difference?

I use custom handicap and custom leaderhead.
