View Full Version : The Comings, Goings and New arrivals thread II azzaman333 Jan 13, 2008, 03:33 PM All the good posters are leaving :( Ansar Jan 13, 2008, 03:38 PM There goes another one... See you in #fiftychat, though, Gogf! Cheezy the Wiz Jan 13, 2008, 03:41 PM Where has Gogf gone?” he cried. “I shall tell you. We have killed him – you and I. We are his murderers. But how have we done this? How were we able to drink up the sea? Who gave us the sponge to wipe away the entire horizon? What did we do when we unchained the Earth from its sun? Whither is it moving now? Whither are we moving now? Away from all suns? Are we not perpetually falling? Backward, sideward, forward, in all directions? Is there any up or down left? Are we not straying as through an infinite nothing? Do we not feel the breath of empty space? Has it not become colder? Is it not more and more night coming on all the time? Must not lanterns be lit in the morning? Do we not hear anything yet of the noise of the gravediggers who are burying Gogf? Do we not smell anything yet of Gogf’s decomposition? Gogfs, too, decompose. Gogf is dead. Gogf remains dead. And we have killed him. How shall we, murderers of all murderers, console ourselves?” Well Denham, it looks like the haystacks got him. Oh no, it wasn't the haystacks. It was beauty killed the beast. Catharsis Jan 13, 2008, 03:44 PM Well, I don't agree with your 'newbies are killing CFC' spiel, but you will be missed, Gogf. Good luck to you. :wavey: Ansar Jan 13, 2008, 03:46 PM Well, I don't agree with your 'newbies are killing CFC' spiel, but you will be missed, Gogf. Good luck to you. :wavey: As far as I can tell, he doesn't object to new members but that he just got tired of the same arguments over and over again. philippe Jan 13, 2008, 03:47 PM Well, I don't agree with your 'newbies are killing CFC' spiel, but you will be missed, Gogf. Good luck to you. :wavey: after page four in a thread everything is either about the USA, God, or socialism/communism vs capitalism Mirc Jan 13, 2008, 03:48 PM Good bye Gogf... sorry to see you (as another good poster) leave us too. :( I can only hope my posts haven't annoyed you as much as some that annoyed me too. :D dot Jan 13, 2008, 03:49 PM Gentlemen, I actually talked to Gogf and he doesn't object to new members. He just got tired of the same stuff and he thinks the spam/troll level is increasing. That's it. Azale Jan 13, 2008, 03:50 PM after page four in a thread everything is either about the USA, God, or socialism/communism vs capitalism Yea, Gogf just got a bit weary of the same stuff. So long Gogf, I'll miss ya :( ohcrapitsnico Jan 13, 2008, 03:54 PM Wow this sucks another rational poster leaves. Hopefully the crap will be sifted away from CFC. Kan' Sharuminar Jan 13, 2008, 04:39 PM Oh for goodness sake, not another one. I'll miss your posts, Gogf :( Darth_Pugwash Jan 13, 2008, 04:43 PM Bye Gogf and Downtown. Maybe it's the rose-tinted glasses of nostalgia kicking in but I also feel the quality of this place has slid of late (conversely however, the All Other Games forum has never been livelier, in a good way. I remember when I first joined CFC that place was a ghost town). CivGeneral Jan 13, 2008, 05:19 PM I will miss you as well Gogf :(. Fifty Jan 13, 2008, 05:20 PM Goodbye Gogf! I'll see you in #fiftychat! LesCanadiens Jan 13, 2008, 05:21 PM Bye bye Gogf! Eran of Arcadia Jan 13, 2008, 06:26 PM I feel the quality has been dropping as well, although only in the last few weeks or so. As for me, it would take me a lot to ever leave, but the sudden departure of so many good posters doesn't help at all. I'll miss you Gogf. carmen510 Jan 13, 2008, 06:49 PM Bye Gogf and downtown. They should really make a Politics sub-forum and sift most of the damn threads to World History like 'World's sexiest dictator'. cubsfan6506 Jan 13, 2008, 07:48 PM All the good posters are leaving :( Don't worry I'll even it out. I'm gone. CivGeneral Jan 13, 2008, 07:50 PM Bye Gogf and downtown. They should really make a Politics sub-forum and sift most of the damn threads to World History like 'World's sexiest dictator'. Tried it, wont fly ;). Red Door Jan 13, 2008, 07:53 PM Gogf, you were a great poster and all, but to be honest, what are you proving by leaving? It seems that #fiftychat tries to prove a point that "OT SUX" by posting spam, trolling, or leaving altogether. What do those prove? Absolutely nothing, you all are just adding to the mess of Off-Topic. Cheezy the Wiz Jan 13, 2008, 08:00 PM Gogf, you were a great poster and all, but to be honest, what are you proving by leaving? It seems that #fiftychat tries to prove a point that "OT SUX" by posting spam, trolling, or leaving altogether. What do those prove? Absolutely nothing, you all are just adding to the mess of Off-Topic. You're precisely the reason why OT sucks, and by forcing people like Gogf to resort to these sorts of measures, you only dig this place deeper. It's a slippery slope, and by insisting on this animosity towards those in the right, you're only throwing oil on it. Grow up and take a stand against the retardation poisoning this forum, or leave, with the rest of the filth. Take a vacation. Grow up and take a stand against the retardation poisoning this forum, or leave, with the rest of the filth. If you want to take a stand, post like an intelligent human being, don't resort to making spam threads about Ron Paul, hot pockets, and whatever you idiots do now. I was once a member of #fiftychat, I got tired of this game. How many problems has this solved? How many has it created? #Fiftychat can go to their private forums if they want an intelligent Off-Topic. "Nikon Coolbillass Camera" "CHECK OUT MY NEW SIG [FEMALE DOGS] "since you dumb [Female reproductive part] have no sense of humor" And that's page 1. But, let's continue to the "serious forum" "bill@$$" "eat my @$$ homos" "Mega Intellecutal Poetry Discussion Group" "The Substance Thread" Frankly, that looks a lot worse than CFC Off-Topic. #fiftychat seems to get the impression that they run CFC because they're much funnier and/or much more smart than the rest of us. To the rest of us, most of you look like dumb idiots. I think everyone is tired of your spam, trolling, and flaming. For every pompous genius at #fiftychat, you've got 2 or 3 humble ones at Off-Topic, you're not better than anyone, so don't pretend like you are. Flame. Kraznaya Jan 13, 2008, 08:20 PM It's truely amazing how as soon as someone gets banned from #fiftychat, they get all pissy and act like they hated the place all along.... I was never banned from fiftychat but I've seen enough of the general behavior in regards to the "esteemed" channel to get a good grasp of what's going on. Fifty makes a good cult leader, but fiftychatters are worse than Ron Paul supporters in their fanaticism on the forums. Red Door Jan 13, 2008, 08:20 PM Dude, you didn't leave #fiftychat. You got permabanned for trolling CivGeneral. True, but you don't think this was set up? It's truely amazing how as soon as someone gets banned from #fiftychat, they get all pissy and act like they hated the place all along.... I did, but this is what #fiftychat does. Soon, 13 posts will come in defending how great the place is and how I'm delusional because I got kicked. EDIT: Or 13 threads will come attempting to make fun of me. I look forward to it, I can poke fun of myself, let's see what #fiftychat does. Zarn Jan 13, 2008, 08:20 PM Signed. Fiftychat may have a few intelligent people at the top (Fifty, perfection), but most of it is just a retarded mob who think they look cool by imitating their esteemed leader(s). Pathetic. incredible. you've never been there and you think we all act like fifty and perfection (or try to do it)? Would you even know what acting like fifty or perfection constitutes? would you even know what being fifty or perfection constitutes? If the answers are no, then you have no right accusing us of imitating them since you aren't able to immediately recognize them from a casual glance at posting styles. And Red, I'm not going to even begin with you. You were cool and all, but you were just as loyal in your heydey as you're criticizing us for being now. And you didn't leave, so don't set yourself up to look like some hero Red Door Jan 13, 2008, 08:23 PM Also, that's our private forum, we can do as we please. But, I thought #fiftychat was the best, mature section of OT. Is that incorrect? They're just a bunch of spammers and trollers. EDIT: Looks like I'm correct, posts by "loyal fiftychatters" trying to say I'm delusional because I was kicked. Fifty invited me back, I declined, I was looking for a way back. Bill3000 Jan 13, 2008, 08:23 PM True, but you don't think this was set up? You were about to get yourself klined from the server and get the chat in trouble for harassing CG so much. Fifty explicitly said that trolling CG like that was no longer allowed and was a permabannable offense. I did, but this is what #fiftychat does. Soon, 13 posts will come in defending how great the place is and how I'm delusional because I got kicked. You did the same thing just a day earlier. This is done because these people are my friends, not because I am brainwashed. Kraznaya Jan 13, 2008, 08:24 PM incredible. you've never been there and you think we all act like fifty and perfection (or try to do it)? Would you even know what acting like fifty or perfection constitutes? would you even know what being fifty or perfection constitutes? If the answers are no, then you have no right pointing out what we are. What kind of fallacy is this? If I am not a Republican, I cannot point out the errors/faults of Republicans? If I am not American, I cannot criticize America? I did say there are a few intelligent people at the top, but many fiftychat users bring a mob/clique mentality to the forum thats unneeded, especially as every other group in the forum is fluid. Red Door Jan 13, 2008, 08:25 PM You were about to get yourself klined from the server and get the chat in trouble for harassing CG so much. Fifty explicitly said that trolling CG like that was no longer allowed and was a permabannable offense. Hehe, don't make things up. That's a sin. You did the same thing just a day earlier. No, not really. Kraznaya Jan 13, 2008, 08:26 PM This is done because these people are my friends, not because I am brainwashed. Fifty makes a good cult leader, but fiftychatters are worse than Ron Paul supporters in their fanaticism on the forums. Fifty is a "cult leader"? Fiftychatters are worse than Ron Paul supporters in their fanaticism? Assuming you're being at all serious, you're hilariously off. But no matter. Like jpn, I'm not even going to get into RD. This is just too pathetic. Bill3000 Jan 13, 2008, 08:27 PM Hehe, don't make things up. That's a sin. I'm not making it up. Prodding CG once in awhile is okay, constantly harassing him to the point of him threatening to commit suicide like you did isn't. No, not really. Absolutely. Perhaps two days instead of one, but do you want me to bring it up showing how you were entirely part of the mob that you are criticizing? MUST NOT BETRAY GROUP GROUP IS ONLY SOCIAL CONNECTION I HAVE THEY MAKE ME FEEL ACCEPTED sound familiar? What would downtown do? Kraznaya Jan 13, 2008, 08:29 PM  Fifty is a "cult leader"? Prodding CG once in awhile is okay, constantly harassing him to the point of him threatening to commit suicide like you did isn't. Please, I prodded CG about a prior post, just as you did. Let's not turn this into some huge hyperbole. Absolutely. Perhaps two days instead of one, but do you want me to bring it up showing how you were entirely part of the mob that you are criticizing? Please do, if it was in the last week, I'd like to see it. azzaman333 Jan 13, 2008, 08:32 PM I was never banned from fiftychat but I've seen enough of the general behavior in regards to the "esteemed" channel to get a good grasp of what's going on. Fifty makes a good cult leader, but fiftychatters are worse than Ron Paul supporters in their fanaticism on the forums. You'd be surprised about the variety of posters and discussions that frequent #fiftychat. BTW, the banned from fiftychat part is a referrence to a certain chatter who was very active in #fiftychat until he got perm-banned (I won't name names here), very similar to what happened with RD. I did, No, you didn't, or you would've left. Not get perm-banned but this is what #fiftychat does. Soon, 13 posts will come in defending how great the place is and how I'm delusional because I got kicked. EDIT: Or 13 threads will come attempting to make fun of me. I look forward to it, I can poke fun of myself, let's see what #fiftychat does. Wait, you got into a huge flamewar in Model Parliment (and were by far the most active in the flaming department), yet you claim you're able to poke fun at yourself? EDIT: Crosspost with the Mod Action, I'll stop here. cubsfan6506 Jan 13, 2008, 09:31 PM This is done because these people are my friends, not because I am brainwashed. MUST FIT IN. [QUOTE=azzaman333;6364658][QUOTE] Way to prove him right. Verge Jan 13, 2008, 09:44 PM Farewell, Gogf I never got to know you, Gogf, but you seemed like a good guy. I wish I had the chance to interact more with you. Take care! Nylan Jan 13, 2008, 09:55 PM Ladies and Gentlemen, I have an important announcement. Effective 1/11/08, I am checking out of here, and plan to pretty much leave OT. There are a few reasons: 1) I have been here a long time...several years. While its cool that I've gotten to know (or at least, as well as one can over the internets) a lot of you guys, a lot of the OT discussion has really become derivative. I know what a lot of you are going to say before you say it. We discuss a lot of the same topics all over again. Why should I read another RELIGION IS IRRATIONAL AND DUMB thread if I've read the same damn thing for 3 years? 2) My motivations for posting have changed a little bit. As a person, I've changed A LOT over these past few years, which is to be expected, seeing as I left high school, and went to college. But after my dad died and mom got sick, and I was bounced to a community college for a year...to be honest, i just lost patience for a lot of the dumb petty crap I used to think was important...or even how I used to think. The things that have kept me at OT over the last few years were the insights from people who had more life experience than I did...people like Whomp or JH, since being a student, I don't have that many adults to ask questions to anymore. In 2005, I might have been interested in 80% of the open threads...now, its more like 15 for me. 3) I spend a LOT of my time with politics. I'm a political science major, so I'm usually in government classes all day. Then I go to work in my government job. I talk about government stuff with my friends and family. And then i'm here. Now, I'm really passionate about this kind of stuff, and I do have a lot of other interests, but I'm worried I'm getting burned out, which isn't healthy for me intellectually, or professionally. 4) I have over 7,000 posts here. Thats feels like kind of a waste to me. I think I'm going to take all that energy, and try to focus it on more productive endeavors...like writing more (since i don't get to practice that very much at OSU). If I focused the energy it takes for me to post on improving my voice by say, blogging or writing essays, I'll be using that "work downtime" a lot more productively. Its been fun guys. I like a lot of y'all, and I've learned a lot. I'll still be around fiftychat, and have email...but for now, I think its time for my next adventure Farewell. I may not have gotten to know you very well, but what I did see impressed me. We share some ideas and some ambitions, and I am eternally jealous of your musical success. Good luck, and I wish you well. You have another reader. Who knows, maybe in this small world we live in, we'll meet one day. Perhaps not. Either way, leave with a clean conscience, and a high approval rating. :) Zarn Jan 13, 2008, 10:35 PM My posts have been often misread in these parts, and sometimes it seems that people purposively do so. Some think I'm a hardcore conservative, some think I'm an anarchiest, and some may think other things. I got flamed many times here. I guess that can happen a lot, when you are far different from many on such a site. I'm not a cookie cutter liberal, conservative, or even libertarian. Everyone on CFC disagrees with me on a least a few issues, and that is fine. I have no problems with that. I just prayed people would listen a bit more. It doesn't seem to be a matter of ideology but a matter of sides. It is as if this was in fact trench warfare. Entrench and fire. Fire. Fire. If the one side seems to be in panic, charge. They will recuperate. Fire. Fire. Fire. They charge. The other side recuperates or forgets the thread existed. I'm certainly not blameless, as I allowed my myself to be pulled a few times throughout the years. So, some dishonor I have earned. I have to admit that, or I would have no right to post this. Technically, I have no right, anyway. ;) Even though I'm Roman Catholic and am in line on spiritual issues (more like I happen to agree), I think for myself. I joke about my faith, but I do that so others knew that joking was not a problem, but the stereotypes were. Maybe I'm not good at getting my point across online. I seem to be much better offline at convincing people it is okay to joke, but to keep things in perspective. Everything is after all about perspective. Catholic jokes aside, the world revolves around perspective. Unfortunately, I don't think many people on this site are ready for that. I cannot even say this many is most, but it is a vocal part of it. Since, I'm in no mood to be dishonored, misinterpreted, or simply flamed, I think it would be best for everyone, my self especially, for me to leave CFC. There is absolutely minimal production here, and in some ways, we are going backwards. It is like I'm the really corrupt city in Civ3. You know the one you just conquered on that other large continent, and you main rival has his/ her forces all around it, constantly bombing and bombarding your defenses. Yeah, that one. Without an airport, I'm kind of a useless foothold here. I don't remember Civ3 that well, so I'm probably far off. One last thing, if you feel an need to make a humorous comment on the idea of the world revolving around perspectives, you just have to find a way to contact me. :p No, I will not answer CFC private messages. No, I will not tell you on how to contact me. That is reserved for people who can figure things out. Good night. Jehveh bless. But it's still fun, and there is that once-in-a-while interesting thread that actually makes me question myself on an issue, and it's an entertaining way to keep in touch with what's happening in the world. What I don't understand is why people need to make big serious statements about "leaving" OT... If you're bored with it just do something else and just post back when you feel like it, it's not like people are actually expecting you to be there on a daily basis and deliver the merchandise! Why does it have to be all or nothing? It's not like your quitting cocaine.... Eran of Arcadia Jan 14, 2008, 10:51 AM A lot of the people leaving are long-time, major, respected posters. So we will miss them but are at least glad to know why. brennan Jan 14, 2008, 10:55 AM Quality falls, quality rises. It's not like there haven't been dry patches before. This is still a good place to discuss current affairs IMO. There are too many spam threads though. Mise Jan 14, 2008, 12:03 PM All the threads I've posted in have been awesome. Benefactor Jan 14, 2008, 12:35 PM Hello, another heathen trespasser newb here imparting my two cents and saying Hi. All this talk of doom and gloom seems a bit pessimistic, I honestly think this is the best Off-Topic forum I have found on any games website. Civilization really seems to attract a broad spectrum of intelligent people with many different and interesting ideas on politics, science and religion. Ok, so theres some spam to sift through on many (most/all) days, but I have yet to find a more entertaining way to get the news, and not just the news, but many varied and (sometimes) insightful opinions on the news. Best of luck to those leaving :) . Darth_Pugwash Jan 14, 2008, 02:11 PM I kinda feel like OT peaked in 2004, then began to slide in perhaps 2006. That may well just be due to nostalgia however, starting out finding it all new and interesting, then gradually getting tired of the endless and inevitable repetition, spam, and posturing by forum 'celebrities'. It's still a cut above most gaming forums IMHO. So, welcome, Benefactor, and git the hell offa mah lawn! :D Ron P. Reagan Jan 15, 2008, 12:28 PM Hi Everybody. I'm Ron P. OK great thats all take care :) ummmm...okay? thanks for the welcoming. why do you want me to contribute to the pictures thread? from what my brother tells me, most chicks are unnactrive. he says 1 out of 10 girls are attractive. so odds are i'm unnattractive and possibly even ugly. so what makes you think i'd be something you'd want to look at anyway? for all you know, i'm some short chubby italian girl that has to shave her moustache and side burns every third day and that i have a happy trail between my boobs. *sighs* i looked at that thread, and for the most part, it seems okay. except for the really ugly half naked old guy. i dunno why that's there, or what that guy was thinking, but it certainly wasn't doing anything for me. but the rest of the thread looks like your stereotypical trendy teenagers and nerdy adults. what's the b etor stuff? i see talk and whatnot. i saw a picture of her and her sister i think. i guess i need some back-story. maybe i'll post a picture or two so i can scare everyone away from me. but unfortunately, i've become kinda disenchanted and jaded over the last year, year and a half or so, so i really don't have any recent pictures...at all. so that means that all my pictures are like...from when i was twelve and thirteen, and that's probly not going to get anybody randy. i share my pictures peer to peer usually and i think i have to host my pics someplace to do this right? where should i do that? help me out and i'll contemplate sharing them here. (is there anyway to keep the big, ugly, half naked guy from seeing them though? he's seriously a little scary.) The Yankee Jan 20, 2008, 11:29 PM Just touched down at JFK a little over two hours ago after a month away. And OT, given my severely limited posting lately. And welcome to the new members posted and those that returned! CivGeneral Jan 20, 2008, 11:30 PM At least youre back safe The Yankee :) The Yankee Jan 20, 2008, 11:37 PM My posts have been often misread in these parts, and sometimes it seems that people purposively do so. I simply will not have the time to cruise CFC this semester. Most of my closest friends on here know that I am taking on eight classes and at the same time opening my own business. I might have some time to stop by and say 'Hi'. Those times will be few and far between. Those who I will miss the most know who they are. I will whisper your names every night into my pillow. I love you! Please come back to me. I await you with open arms and more affection than some people give JFK. And Godwynn, you'll have to come back to tell me all about that Wall Street to Main Street class. The very fact that I lack any motivation to improve my posts, but that I consistently act in such an irritated manner as a result of what I perceive to be surges of terrible posting.. That is what troubles me. I should learn to live up to my own expectations, but first I must lower them. To see such paragons of posting excellence, some who have left in protest, some who remain, is to keep that expectation at a level that I cannot myself hope to fulfill. I may have left less of an impact than those who have already left. I may have been more of the defiant type, I have been known to partake in the same activities that now the majority of OT considers deplorable. For what it's worth, my four years here have taught me much, and it is a pity that I could not return nearly as much as I took. Farewell, Japanrocks12 Mirc Jan 22, 2008, 03:34 AM imageshack seems straight forward. i don't have the time to make an account tonight. but i should have some time in the week to do it! I've spent much time here and have learned a lot and had a lot of fun, but I am in over my head in work for a while and I need to purge myself of distractions, however educational and fun they may be like CFC. The thing is, I think a mod needs to delete my account to stop me from coming here since it has become so automatic and knowing that I don't have an account anymore will help me abstain. While I would love to continue learning and posting here, there just isn't enough time in a day and I need to be free of distractions for the next few months, and I will be out of the country later this year working probably without much access to internet so it's pretty much goodbye for at least a year or more.
