This is the basic structure of the stupa. I'll be adding the decorations such as the Buddha statues later.

This is the basic structure of the stupa. I'll be adding the decorations such as the Buddha statues later.Watch the nomenclature; a stupa is a giant reliquary; it contains the bones of a Buddhist saint. Nalanda University was in fact a monastery. It would have consisted of multiple buildings; a stupa would have been on the grounds somewhere, but not on top of the classrooms.

Your graphic does look workable for an Indian university.

I know what a stupa is, Blue Monkey. Nalanda University had a stupa and this structure is only a part of the whole building (or set of buildings, rather). Of course, I just realized that this building isn't the stupa and the photos that I found were mislabeled. :crazyeye:

Obviously, I can't show the entire Nalanda University (since that place is pretty big), so I'll only use a notable section of it to represent the whole (like the way I used the Hall of Supreme Harmony to represent the Nguyen Imperial Citadel wonder).

Speaking of which, what color are Nalanda's walls anyway? In several different pictures, it's always grayish or has a different hue of reddish brown.

I probably sounded too pedantic; you have my apologies. I knew you know what a stupa is; I was afraid others would misunderstand, and you've explained how you were mislead. As I said above, I think your building will do well for Nalanda. I'd go with the color New Yorkers call "brownstone" if you know what I mean. Because of the available stone, the majority of structures I have seen from the period have that reddish tint.

Wow, I never thought it would be that detailed. Looks excelent. :goodjob:

No offense taken. I understand your point in making the distinctions clear. :)

Wow, I never thought it would be that detailed.

I'm also going to include those mini Buddha statues. :D I'm not sure how I'm going to do that yet, but I'll be doing some experimenting with editing lattice figures for humanoid shapes. :)

An update on my progress. :D I've been a bit busy lately, so work on this has kinda been slow. I must say that this is the most delightfully complicated thing I've ever made in Bryce. :)

Wow - you're making this into a true work of art.

Ahh, Indian buildings. A use will be found in many mods I would bet.

It does look very good, and very detailed. :goodjob: Though I have a feeling that some of the work will be lost on conversion into civ 3 format. Is it meant to be a wonder? Because if so you could use that model to make a beautiful splash.

Keroro, did you notice the title? :p

There will be a wonder splash along with the civlopedia pics. I'll be using a better-looking grass terrain that came with Bryce 6. Again, I won't use civ grass; I just can't stand the look of it. ;)

I think that making Civ graphics IS art... Or maybe I've just been doing this too long. :crazyeye:

Another update on progress. :D

I've added the doorways and more sets of columns. Pics below are a comparison between the original and the Bryce version.

I've added the doorways and more sets of columns. Pics below are a comparison between the original and the Bryce version. This is looking better and better. :goodjob: I hope at some point you'll make it the reddish color of the original, which is very typical of Indian buildings of the period, due to the available stone. Also typical is the decreasing width as well as height of the columns on each ascending course. This was done as a kind of forced perspective, to make the building look even taller.

Could you point me to the source for the original image? I don't remember seeing it before, and I'd like to get a better look.

I got the pic from here: http://www.indiaplaces.com/india-monuments/nalanda-university.html

It's the best and most detailed pic I could find of this tower; others are too grainy, too blurred, or too distant.

I'll be changing the texture color when I'm finished with the building; I'm just keeping it light concrete-gray now so it's easier on the eyes when rendering and checking details. :)

Thanks, Ogedei. That's a site I hadn't come across. It's bookmarked and will be added at some point to the Bazaar thread.

Stumbled across this clipart (http://etc.usf.edu/clipart/22600/22690/pillar_22690.htm) page this morning and thought it might be of some use to you for the pillars. South Asian pillars are a bit different from Greek style ones; for one thing they taper a bit more from bottom to top.

Next preview. 4,200,071 pologyons. If this were put in Civ4, the game would break a hundred times over. :crazyeye:

  And the civ4 modders think their graphics are complex. :D

Looks great. :bounce:

This is looking really amazing! I can't wait to see it with the final colors and hopefully Buddha statues.

This is excellent work Ogedei :)
I hope that you have plans of making 2d gfx of your models. Perhaps we could create a library of 2d buildings for future use :)

The nice thing about a 2d game is that you can show a lot of detail without compromising the gameplay. Here I have over four million polygons and I don't have to worry about it making the game go boom. :D

New preview. Say hello to the nice Buddhas. :D The big one on the top floor is going to be interesting to make. :)

I think you should release the pillar-stupa-thingy separatley too, because when you will add the big hill-shaped thingy, the fine details on this won't be seen. :(

Actually, this tower will be the showpiece for the wonder splash. I'm not going to include all the university since I can't find any pics of the complex that have enough detail.

Whoa that looks so cool. I mean the color isn't evenly spread; very realistic. :)
I like how the ground floor figures look. :)

Excellent coloration! I've lived a couple places where the local stone is similarly colored; you've got the shade spot on.
