View Full Version : Some expert ideas on higher difficulty levels.
Drool Feb 09, 2007, 01:34 PM Ive been attempting a Quechua rush on both imoortal and diety but with no luck. If I attack too early I don't have enough units, and if I declare war too early and don't attack then they just sit and build archers faster than I can build Quechua. If I wait too long there cultural defence goes to 40% and they grow too large. Can I get some expert ideas on what to do please.

Don't worry about victory condition or how fast you win. Just try and make the world a desert.:D
Okay, that's actually probably not that helpful, but it always brightens up my day.
a space oddity Feb 09, 2007, 02:30 PM @Drool: The trick with quechua rushes on Deity is luring their units out of the safety of their cities. If you use vanilla civ this is done by waving unprotected workers in front of their noses... You should experiment with this a little, it is smart enough to see the more obvious traps. Another key issue is that you need to be close enough to your opponent, if they have time to grow, you're lost. Same with cities on hills, just regenerate your map in that case. Mind you, it's not impossible, but much harder.

On Immortal, just send your starting quecha into their first city and attack the archers defending. If you go to <1.8/2, heal, otherwise attack the next archer in the city and you win. If your quecha has even a 20% chance of success, attack, since quecha rush are so quick you can just start another game and your in the same position. Eventually you'll get a lucky enough game to win.
WastinTime Feb 09, 2007, 08:36 PM I've recently spent some time learning the Quechua strategy. I've got a few new spots on the Diety high score board using them, so I think I have it figured out. The secret is Marathon speed. If you're playing on Normal it is much harder. The archers come way too fast like you described.
I've found that barracks are not necessary. Two or even just one Quechua can camp out on a forest inside the enemy territory and they will be completely shut down. It's best to have two if you want to be able to attack archers that come out and still protect your injured man. Eventually you'll get a couple promotions. Two is also nice for marching around their land and pillaging. I always immediately take out their mines and pastures, etc. When you're ready, usually 4-5 quechua will easily take out a city. Most of those quechua don't even need any promotions, they can be fresh from the factory. My workers have other business to attend to, so I rarely use the worker lure technique.

You need to go to war early to prevent their workers from working. You don't have to attack until you have enough units.
and if I declare war too early and don't attack then they just sit and build archers faster than I can build Quechua.
Yes, they can build archers much faster than you can build Quechua. However, by camping your Quechua on a forest&hill just outside their city, they will often throw an archer to die at your feet in every other turns. This would help keep their number of archers in check.

If their cultural defense goes to 40% or above, just double/triple the number of Quechua. For exampke, if you need to capture their city defending with 3 or 4 archers, you need about 5 Quechua.
First, just a wait a little bits and two archers will come out escorting a settler. That would leave one or two left in the city. Now, your 5 Quechua should be able to overcome the one or two defenders. You probably will lose two/three Quechua if their cultural defense is too strong.
