Even after editing the resolutions in the .ini Civ IV will only run in 1808 x 1984 resolution. I run at an odd resolution of 1192 x 664.

Set resolution to 800 x 600 and edited the .ini for the same (both in Games/ and Civ IV/) and it still runs in 1808 x 1984.

Drivers are all up to date.

Any ideas?

I too tried to play it on an HDTV and the resolution was very crappy. Also it wouldn't refresh above 30hz.

Solution:

Being as my HDTV doesn't have a refresh rate higher than 60mhz I don't use 1080i. However, I switched to 1080i from 780p and changed my resolution to 1808 x 990 and the game worked fine.

You just need a resolution that is at least 768 in height.

And once in the game, the flickering was mostly gone and made for a nice night of Civ IV with a friend.
