WOTM 06: Ragnar Lodbrokhttp://gotm.civfanatics.net/civ4games/images/wotm06civ.jpg

This game MUST be played in Warlords patch version 2.08. We will NOT accept any games played under any other patch versions, and you can't play it in vanilla (plain) Civilization4!

Further, it MUST be played using the latest version of HOF mod for Warlords. This is currently version 2.08.003 (http://hof.civfanatics.net/civ4/mods/HOF-2.08.003.exe) for PC.
The Mac version of Warlords can now be patched to be compatible with version 2.08, so Mac players can now play this game using Mac Hof Mod 200.002.

Yeah! I am first. :)

Second. :)

Actually why is a separate Pre-Game Discussion and a separate Saves Availablable thread? It seems to me that the fuction is the same - discussing strategy before starting the game..

Anyway, I have dowloaded it. Never played Vikings, and monarch sound much friendlier than the hopeless struggle in deity I have in the currect GOTM. :)

The pre-game discussion thread is for talking about what you think the gameplay will be like.

The saves available thread is for postings about problems with the game, downloading the saves, etc.

Hi guys, a question for the staff: In this WOTM, some map generation parameters were deliberately not revealed. However, once you've played the game for a certain number of turns, you'll obviously have a good idea of what those parameters were. Is it considered acceptable and within the rules/the spirit of the game, once you are at that point, to break off from the WOTM and generate a random practice map for yourself with the same map settings that you've deduced Gyathaar (probably) used in the actual map, in order to try out strategies on that map type?

There are no rules about practice games, and as long as you continue your GOTM from the point at which you discovered the parameters you aren't breaking any rules.

As to whether practice maps are in the spirit of the game, that subject was done to death long ago, in a far-away thread.

I DL the save, and clicked on open (ouvrir en français, don't know what the word is in english) and it crashed before actually loading the game.
I just double clicked on the save and it opened up nicely, and I had no other crash after that.
I think the save didn't get modified (to show a non existing session) by the first attempt, so I just played on.
Having no way to check for now (game isn't over!), I thought I'd just come here to ask.
Is it alright, or do I need to PM someone (AlanH?) about it?

Open is correct :)

No need. You already told me :)

Can someone explain what the Mod does that we need? I tried doing a forum search for HoF and nothing came up. There is a link, but that downloads the actual file, but doesn't tell me what it does or explains why it is needed.

The home page for the mod is here. (http://hof.civfanatics.net/civ4/mod.php) What the mod does can best be understood by downloading and installing it, loading it, and starting a game using the mod. Enable all the options (use Ctrl-O) except the Map Finder, and observe.

What the mod does that we need is:

1) help us play better by condensing information already available in the game into a more usable format, and

2) provide greater ability to detect "cheating", i.e., detect reloading the game to achieve a better result than a previous attempt.
