View Full Version : Name of the people as a collective
Lockesdonkey Feb 16, 2007, 02:06 PM So what shall it be? Traditionally, the people are treated as one big legislature, and I think we should somehow keep that tradition.
I have previously proposed the following:
Tribal Council
Some derivation of "Thing" if we're the Vikings or maybe the Germans (e.g. Althing, Folketing)
People's Assembly
Tribal Assembly
National Assembly
Ekklesia (if we're the Greeks--name of the Athenian assembly)
Plebean Assembly (if we're the Romans, though it could actually work for anything)
Well? I'm not going to make it a poll or initiative until I find consensus...
dutchfire Feb 16, 2007, 02:12 PM Assamblee, if we're French.
Reichstag, if we're German.

Octavian X Feb 16, 2007, 03:44 PM Let's see which Civ we get first...
Hyronymus Feb 17, 2007, 12:49 PM Dingspel (which is Dutch)
Chieftess Feb 17, 2007, 02:56 PM Tribal Council.
Atleast it was an old Civ3 Conquest government type. :)
CivGeneral Feb 18, 2007, 09:11 PM Tribal Council sounds too Native American (Yes, I live in an area that is close by two Casinos and two Native American Reservations :p)
Donovan Zoi Feb 18, 2007, 09:33 PM Let the first Warlord name it, if we go that route. That would make things pretty authentic, I think.
Byshguy Feb 19, 2007, 06:19 PM I think we ought to just call it the Assembly of the People. Also, and maybe this isn't the best thread for the post, but it seems to me if the Judiciary is established in the constitution, shouldn't the "people" be in there as well.
Furius Feb 19, 2007, 11:34 PM Tribal Council sounds too Native American (Yes, I live in an area that is close by two Casinos and two Native American Reservations :p)
Do Native Americans Actually have "Tribal Councils" out of curiosity?
It sounds too much like 'Survivor' for my tastes, anyhow... :cringe:

Yes they do. Most of them were forcibly created by the Federal governments of the US and Canada around 1910.
Cyc Feb 22, 2007, 02:55 PM The People's Assemblyor "The People" sounds good to me. Tribal Council would represent the "Leaders" or "Officials", so it would NOT be a good choice.
GeorgeOP Feb 22, 2007, 06:07 PM Maybe to make it more realistic, the leader can make the name whatever they want. Then when we change governments, we can get a new name. Ie, Russia, USSR, Russia

Thaty's a really interesting idea. Perhaps a name for us as a people could be constant while the name of the country coul-d change as leadership, or civics, changes. Or perhaps as a way to rp different regions could be of a different nationality. hmmm
Lockesdonkey Mar 25, 2007, 02:40 PM Boo! Now that we've started...why the heck not?
NKVD Mar 25, 2007, 05:34 PM Assamblee, if we're French.
Reichstag, if we're German.
in french it's assemblée
Lockesdonkey Mar 25, 2007, 06:02 PM I think now that we know we're Mongolia, a Mongolian equivalent would be preferable.
Octavian X Mar 26, 2007, 06:51 PM If it helps, the parliamentary assembly of modern Mongolia is the Great Khural (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_Great_Hural).
