Hi all, just wondering if Rye's and fall works for macs:confused: THNX

I've just downloaded it and confirmed that it contains a custom CvGameCoreDLL.dll file. That means it is automatically disqualified for the Mac. Sorry :(

I don't even have time to play the basic game, so I have no idea what the mods do.

Check the local threads. Everyone's idea of a good mod is different. Some want lots of civs, some want different units ....

:agree:

Be sure to check this thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=186917) for info on how to adapt CivGold for the Mac.

We Mac'ys need to stick together. now if only there was a way to get .dll files to work. I mean, our original one starts with it. maybe...
...I wonder....(stares off into space)

As I understand it, the installed software contains a .dll file purely so that the embedded Windows code can find it and validate its check sum. It is Windows code and serves no other useful purpose as it cannot be executed by Mac OS X. The actual functions performed by that dll are recompiled into the body of the Mac OS X version.

You can play the version that comes with Mac BTS but you must play with China, Babylon, India or Egypt for it to work. It is currently impossible to play any other version of Rhye's and Fall on Mac.

What??
To me, it works for Mac. I simply go into advanced menu , load a mod, RFC, and the mod works and can play it. It comes with BTS, no downloading. And I can play all Civs. This is ironic, because it is always to me that mods I download do not work. Always.

I think it works with BTS 3.17 but not with 3.19 unless you play one of the civs mentioned above. Or something like that, been a while since I tried it.

And the yes, the majority of mods won't run on Mac without some tweaking, and those with SDK changes won't work at all. There are several Mac compatible mods available here on the CFC Mac forums though!

The mods that came with BTS have been specially programmed, taking into account the DLL and should work. Unfortunately there isn't much you can do when it comes to custom content you download, however.

As you can tell, this is my first post. I have read a lot on these boards, but this is the first time I've posted a question. I'm really hoping someone can help!

I bought BTS and installed on my Mac, but I lost the disc when I moved. I found these message boards and thought I could update my Rhye's and Fall. So I downloaded the newest version and replaced the original scenario. After a few turns, someone wins a cultural victory... I can't play the game.

Can anyone please tell me where to download the Mac compatible Rhye's and Fall that shipped with BTS?

Thank you.

Hi, welcome :wavey:

I don't think you can download the Aspyr version of Rhye's and Fall. It contains a complete compiled version of the BtS source code plus the R&F DLL code, and the only legal source for it would be Aspyr. I recommend you go back to Aspyr with proof of purchase and ask for a new copy of the DVD. They may charge a service fee to provide it.

R&F actually has it's own version of the BTS executable contained inside the BTS application itself (this is true of Road to War as well). This means no other version of either mod will work on Mac BTS and thus you'll need to get a replacement disc from Aspyr I'm afraid.

Alan and/or Flintlock, R&F and RtW not being upgradeable might be a good thing to put in the FAQ or Modding Index.

The mod mostly works with 3.19; it's the autoplay for late-starting civs that's broken.

On that subject, I've attached a patch for that issue, consisting of adding a few lines of code to one Python file. Instructions for use:
- Download attached file and uncompress.
- Replace the "CvDawnOfMan.py" file in Mods/Rhye's and Fall of Civilization/Assets/Python with the new version. I recommend keeping a backup of any changed files somewhere.
- Play the game. When your late-starting civ spawns, disband the Antarctic catapult. (The code that spawns that catapult isn't mine. I could add a script that automatically disbands it, but that would belong in another file.)

There are other substantial gameplay bugs, including a number of unique powers that don't work. I'm trying to fix those, too.

Thank you jmerry, this seems to work.

I started a campaign as Rome, during the autoplay it still says "Asoka has won a Historical Victory", but the autoplay continues instead of ending the game. Everything seems to be working except "Asoka has won a Historical Victory" remains on screen the whole game. Not sure if this means i can win or not. Still, it's great to play RFC again.

Thanks again!!

There's definitely something wrong with your version, because Asoka -can't- win a Historical Victory until 1200 AD, long after Rome has spawned.
