View Full Version : Discussion, Turns 120 - 140
peter grimes Feb 18, 2007, 02:02 PM I suppose this thread is a little late in coming - and maybe it's entirely unnecessary :)
But I there are a couple of things to discuss that don't fit neatly into any other Department:
Socrates, and how best to put him to work?? Lightbulbing or Joining?
The Intrepid Exploration Mission has access to 2 spits of land, either one of which may house Aloha - or be entirely void of civilization!! How best to explore? Should the explorer climb the hill, while the caravel scouts the coast??
Please discuss :)
General_W Feb 18, 2007, 02:33 PM I am loathe to separate the explorer from the Caravel… so I’d vote for climbing the hill with explorer and sailing South with the Carvel to pick the explorer back up a bit further south.
I know it throws us off our Northern exploration a bit… but 2 chunks of land are just too juicy to pass up, imo.
But if we need to stay focused, and put the explorer on the Caravel and continue North-West… I’m ok with that too. As long as the explorer and Caravel stay togeather. :)
Memphus Feb 18, 2007, 03:01 PM Socrates Will be joined to The Capital for extra :science:
Right now we are at roughly 100 :science: in the capital. Socrates will give us roughly 50 more. (Well actually it is more Like 40 More) (80 :commerce: (Comes from 54 * 1.50 Bureacracy) * 1.25% (Library) = ~100 :science.
In any event it is far more worth the Academy!
As Far as eploration IMO we have 1 goal. Circumnavigation. Everything else is secondary.
I simply drop the explorer off when I know he can be picked up the next turn without hindering our exploration Speed on the Horizontal.
So My STRONG suggestiong would be to pick him up on and continue going.
Once we have circumnavigated then we can come back and explore these landmasses.
DaveMcW Feb 18, 2007, 03:24 PM DO NOT JOIN SOCRATES TO THE CAPITAL!!!
Have him build an academy in the capital instead. ;)
Memphus Feb 18, 2007, 03:38 PM DO NOT JOIN SOCRATES TO THE CAPITAL!!!
Have him build an academy in the capital instead. ;)
oops hehe  that is what I meant ;)
DaveMcW Feb 18, 2007, 04:49 PM I would like to send the caravel and explorer northwest until it's impossible to go any further in that direction. Hopefully that will happen when they run into Aloha or Innovia's continent.
DaveMcW Feb 19, 2007, 07:28 PM Now that our capital is healthy (with 2:health: more coming soon), I think it makes more sense to build missionaries and buildings to keep growing.
So Memphus, you're welcome to finish the missionary and maybe start another if it's needed for settlement.
Does anyone think we should try for the Hanging Gardens??
DaveMcW Feb 19, 2007, 07:43 PM Nevermind, Aloha finished the Hanging Gardens this turn.
Memphus Feb 19, 2007, 07:47 PM Does anyone think we should try for the Hanging Gardens??
I think we have a legit shot at this.
1. With Us having the biggest city we are probably the only team to have invested in an aqueduct thus far.
2. Having the Odd chance of Popping a Grat Eng is always a bonus (think rushing spaceship stuff)
3. The added 1 pop to every city will come quite nicely (if anything think of each pop as approxmiately worth 30 :hammers: to the whip. (not to mention the +1 :health: stays after the :whipped: ;)
So with the Hanging gardens costing 300 :hammers: we get (assuming 3 (mighty Bulwark is included in that 3) more cities are set up by the time it is done that is 9 Cities * 30 :hammers: = 270 :hammers: to me it is the worth the investment (especially when you figure the gardens are only 200 :hammers: due to our trait)
4. Pyramids arn't even built yet, I doubt anyone (accept maybe aloha, who now has 8 Cities I think ) would even consider this wonder.
So I say go For it!
Memphus Feb 19, 2007, 07:47 PM Nevermind, Aloha finished the Hanging Gardens this turn.
Forget that...
peter grimes Feb 23, 2007, 07:02 AM 1. Would It be Worth it to have General_w or Lost_Civ Chop the Forest At Sunset Fortress for the :hammers: on the Galley / Forge?
2. What is everyone thoughs on the blue circle the Settler Revealed on his travels to Sunset Fortress.
3. Do we want to use the this missionary at Mighy Bulwark? (Or put him on a boat with the Settler)
1. I assume you mean Galleon, right?... That might also explain the surprise at seeing Piffle's galley near Aloha ;)
3. I would think that the religion and culture would be best used on down south (name escapes me), near Loco.
Misc: I presume you called it Hudson's Bay due to the geographic and topographic similarity... In fact, it's close to a dead ringer - just no Baffin Island! :hmm:
General_W Feb 23, 2007, 08:15 AM @Peter - I'm pretty sure we're talking about Galley's still. Galleons aren't avalible till Astronomy!
1) I would vote yes - anything to speed us getting the boat ready to transport our settler group over to Sunrise Citadel sounds good to me.
2) Blue Circle is ok, but I don't think it trumps anything on our current settlement plan.
3) I would also send the Missionary to Sunrise Citiadel - Mighty Bulwark is closer to our core, can get a missionary later, and has less need of the cultural expansion in the short term.
peter grimes Feb 23, 2007, 08:57 AM ........
Too many games going on
General_W Feb 27, 2007, 09:47 AM ok, so I just want to make sure I'm clear on a one thing from your update Mr. President…
Piffle made a mistake in their offering… but we DID get 25:gold: for Monotheism, yes? No more, no less?
Memphus Feb 27, 2007, 03:31 PM ok, so I just want to make sure I'm clear on a one thing from your update Mr. President…

Correct.
Pfiffle offer 25 :gold: for Monotheism (trade #1) I accepted and the trade went through.
The Pfiffle Offer us 25 :gold: for nothing. I also accepted this trade although I was confused why they would give us 25 :gold: (As I knew the other trade was completed). In any event When I accepted this trade nothing happened. I.E. we did not get 25 More :gold: (This can be verified because the third trade screen, which is Innovia's trade) our total Empire :gold: was still 99. (didn't go up to 124).
Clear? :crazyeye:
General_W Feb 27, 2007, 03:34 PM  actually... yes!
Thanks! :hatsoff:
peter grimes Mar 04, 2007, 07:39 AM So we've now found everyone's borders.
Aloha has already offered us OpenBorders. But we didn't want to allow their units to pass and scout us out - so I'm not sure why we would offer them open borders now. After all, they still have a ship close to our borders.
Innovia - I'm even less likely to want to open borders with them. The only benefit we could achieve is spreading religion - and that means that theirs could spread to us as well. Then we'd be in tight spot - having to watch what units we place in those 9 tiles.
However, the trade payoffs could sway me....
peter grimes Mar 04, 2007, 08:44 AM I've been searching off and on for 2 or 3 days now, and I just can't find a list of all the Great People anywhere. I thought I saw one embedded in a strategy article, but I'm at a loss.
I've gone throught the event log, and compiled a chronology of which great people popped, and when. I figure that by correlating this with the production of Wonders, we can keep at least half an eye on our 'friends' GP, and whether or not they have anyone available to lightbulb with.
So if anyone can point me towards that list, I'd appreciate it :)
