Position: Designated Player Pool

This is the Nomination thread for the office of Designated Player.

The Designated Player is the person that actually plays the Civ4 game, based on the instructions posted in the relevant instruction thread. The number of times that you will play during a term will vary based on the frequency of sessions and the size of the pool. The order of play in the pool is based on if the citizen was in the pool last session but did not play, the number of votes recieved and the order of accepting the nomination.

To nominate a citizen for Designated Player, including yourself, post the name in this thread or PM Ravensfire. In order for a citizen to be accepted for the election, they must accept the nomination by posting in this thread or sending a PM to Ravensfire. Self-nominations are considered automatically accepted unless indicated otherwise.

THIS IS NOT CONSIDERED AN OFFICE, AND THUS DOES NOT COUNT AS THE ONE ACCEPTED NOMINATION. You may run for any office and run for acceptance into the Designated Player pool.

All citizens are encouraged to post questions to the nominees about their plans and qualifications for the office. Nominees are encouraged, but not required, to answer those questions.

The election poll will be posted at 6:00 pm, Feb. 24, CST, and will list all accepted nominations, in order of acceptance.

Good luck!

I'll accept.

Edit: I have a lot of experience in Succession Games as you can see from the links in my signature. I've played many, many SG's in both Civ3 and Civ4 as well as five SGOTM games. Team play and discussion is my preferred method.

I'm very grateful to have been nominated, but I do not believe that my computer can run civ and the chat at the same time... Let alone switch between the two...
So I shall decline...

Thanks, though

Could all nominees briefly outline their plans for the game? Thank you

Questions for all candidates:

Do you truly feel that you can capably interpret posted instructions? Please qualify your answer.

If you were a DP in the past, please highlight your successes and challenges.

Lastly, have you ever run for DP and not met the electoral minimum due to your gameplay during the previous term?

Do you truly feel that you can capably interpret posted instructions? Please qualify your answer.

Yes, absolutely. (absolutely is the qualifier :groucho: )

If you were a DP in the past, please highlight your successes and challenges.

Successes: being able to create the starting save on several occasions
Challenges: Taking several tries to create the starting save
Seriously: The hard part is determining if an in-game opportunity for which there are no instructions is a no-brainer (one way or the other), or a stop condition. Someone is going to complain no matter what you do.

Lastly, have you ever run for DP and not met the electoral minimum due to your gameplay during the previous term?

Not even close.

Generally, this could be a touchy subject. For about 70% of our total registrations (a lower percentage of true active players), there was no previous term. There has been a case where someone fell far short of the required votes due to other player reactions to previous term activity, and that player left the game and CFC. I don't remember anyone currently nominated who has been rejected in the past.

Questions for all candidates:

Yes, and I feel that instructions should be in a way that all citizens could understand them, so that would include me.

If you were a DP in the past, please highlight your successes and challenges.
I was a DP twice (if I remember correctly), but didn't play that many turns, the game was already pretty dead at that time, and most instructions were missing.

Lastly, have you ever run for DP and not met the electoral minimum due to your gameplay during the previous term?
I have run, and I got elected.

I got all excited about being a DP and then remembered the chats. If we were doing continuous play where it was a couple turns a day I'd accept in a minute. I have neither the time nor patience to do a ten (or more) turn chat session, so I will decline the nomination.

If you all ever want to try continuous play I'll run for DP.

For all candidates information:

The current rule on playing the save (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=207423) is silent on whether play is online in a chat, or offline with no chat.

This may cause a reconsideration or two, or it may not. ;)

Also, remember the DP has the option to stop play before the planned number of turns. I for one must have flexibility to limit the duration of a play session based on time instead of number of turns.

Do you truly feel that you can capably interpret posted instructions? Please qualify your answer.

Yes, so long as they're written so that the general population can easily understand the posted instructions... as they should be.

If you were a DP in the past, please highlight your successes and challenges.

I was the designated player for a few Civ III games. And I did very well.

Lastly, have you ever run for DP and not met the electoral minimum due to your gameplay during the previous term?

First experience with this new DP pool system, but people never had a problem with my performance when I was DP in the past.

I think my brushes with the English language have educated me enough to understand simple instructions.

If you were a DP in the past, please highlight your successes and challenges.
Sorry, first time DP.

Lastly, have you ever run for DP and not met the electoral minimum due to your gameplay during the previous term?
No.

Didn't realize that. If these rules are still in place next term I might try for a DP slot. Still kinda busy with school and work. Anyway, thanks for pointing this out.

Yes

The only big challenge that I had was scedualing a time to plan. As well as determining what to do if there are no instructions provided.

Lastly, have you ever run for DP and not met the electoral minimum due to your gameplay during the previous term?
We have all made mistakes, and I am no exception. However, this is a new game with a new fresh start. I intend to start this game with a fresh new start. There is no need to dwell on the past of people's past mistakes.
