Wyrmshadow Feb 25, 2007, 05:35 AM This will be a long thread with dozens of units. Minimal previews, no animated previews so don't ask. There will be just too many. Just download and look at it in Flictser.

nc-1701 Feb 25, 2007, 05:48 AM Nice units man:goodjob: Mig-19&21 look especialy cool.
Civinator Feb 25, 2007, 07:04 AM Wyrmshadow, one more time: Thank you very much for your great units.:thanx: I espacially like the Mig 19 and Mig 17 and the ... hmmm I like all. :D
d.highland Feb 25, 2007, 08:04 AM The Mig 15 looks very much like a Sabre...
Great work Wyrm!
vingrjoe Feb 25, 2007, 10:46 AM One word...Excellent.
Red Door Feb 25, 2007, 10:49 AM  OMG. Did I ever tell you that I love you? These are excellent. Even an Iraqi MiG-27! Amazing.
Also, El Justo will be most pleased.
SoAB Feb 25, 2007, 01:21 PM Excellent Work as always, Wyrmshadow. You're bringing in new life into plenty of people's mods. I certainly appreciate the variety of cammo schemes and variants within individual aircraft types.
It's kind of like Ares de Borg's recolors... it really makes a whole new unit.
BadKharma Feb 25, 2007, 02:43 PM Oh thank you so much for the first installment. Now the replacing shall begin in TCW.
Tgo1130 Feb 25, 2007, 04:23 PM Looking good
Simon Darkshade Feb 26, 2007, 06:36 AM Terrific developments.
wolf_66 Feb 26, 2007, 08:15 AM Great units, as always.
I’ve just a very little remark. The NATO codename “Mongol” you used for 2nd MiG-21 is only related to few 2 seats (tandem) training versions of MiG-21: MiG-21U “Mongol A”, MiG-21US and UM “Mongol B”. All NATO Nicknames for fighters and strikefighters starts with F, like “Fishbed”.
The plane you called “Mongol” looks like a MiG-21SMT Fiskbed K or MiG-21bis Fishbed L or N.
Anyway this is just a detail. Once again, excellent job.
Wyrmshadow Feb 26, 2007, 08:16 AM Thank you. I wasn't sure of the name, there's just so many versions of the thousands manufactured.
Ares de Borg Feb 26, 2007, 10:36 AM Grrrrreeat collection. :) Time to update my game.
Ozymandias Feb 26, 2007, 10:45 AM One "word": :trophy2:

nc-1701 Feb 28, 2007, 09:03 AM Wow! These new ones are fantastic man! I especialy like the Flatpack. Now I have to go work on my WW3 so I can use them for something:goodjob:
BadKharma Feb 28, 2007, 02:17 PM Wow! These new ones are fantastic man! I especialy like the Flatpack. Now I have to go work on my WW3 so I can use them for something:goodjob:
Looks like the next group will have more additions for that also.
Wyrm you are really cranking these aircraft out great job once again.

Wyrmshadow Mar 01, 2007, 08:49 AM But, Wy... No death.flc in the "MiG-27 Flogger".
Okay I fixed it.
Wyrmshadow Mar 03, 2007, 01:13 PM First 6 Sukhois are up.
cemo1956 Mar 03, 2007, 03:15 PM Am I blind or doesn't the
Mig 27 and Mig 27 Flogger Iraqi look 100% the same.
I DL both after the new zip with the Death.flc so perhaps the upload have had some problems.
Did you change the Iraqi version too and made a hasty error and put both as the same ??? I am perhaps wrong. Both files DL as Mig-27.zip ???

Mirc Mar 03, 2007, 03:45 PM Great!!! Just great!
Ares de Borg Mar 03, 2007, 10:47 PM Great units, Wyrm, but there's still no Death.flc in the MiG27 file... :(
Maybe the new file has got another file id?
Wyrmshadow Mar 04, 2007, 02:56 AM okay NOW it finally works.
taube87 Mar 04, 2007, 01:22 PM hats off! :hatsoff:
very good units,
but i have a little problem
it's a screen from the flcedit and ingame this pink part is green (the unit is on grassland) or blue (the unit is on is on a carrier).
i found a method (editing the palette) to fix it, but it isn't easy. what's my problem?
Ares de Borg Mar 04, 2007, 01:42 PM It's easier to fix than to explain. If Wyrm gives his green light, I'd do it.
Wyrmshadow Mar 05, 2007, 01:26 AM Its a good thing I havent erased any of the storyboards. I'd be mad at myself if I had to redo all the animations. The pallete has been fixed and new file uploaded.
Any more major malfunctions like a missing Flc or screwed up pallete? I thought I had the things worked out by now.
taube87 Mar 05, 2007, 11:01 AM i'm sorry to here that. i thougth that his was my mistake...
jatibi Mar 06, 2007, 04:08 PM wyrm, do the soviet bombers follow in this thread, or do your release them in a different thread, at a different time?
(no hurry, i', just reworking all of the air units in my mod, and to have them all in the right order, this information would be useful)
WilliamOfOrange Mar 07, 2007, 09:02 PM Nice to finally have a MiG-25. Rock on!!!
The Tuna Bomber Mar 08, 2007, 07:10 PM they look good, I hope someone does some ussr bombers to go with these fighters
96nn Mar 09, 2007, 07:47 AM I have not heard about the Mig-35 Flatpack, Su-60 Ferret and Firefox... Are there any descriptions?
Ozymandias Mar 09, 2007, 10:01 AM I have not heard about the Mig-35 Flatpack, Su-60 Ferret and Firefox... Are there any descriptions?
Yes, it's called "Google". ;)
Best,
Oz
The Conquests Mar 09, 2007, 01:46 PM Whether will be Su-33UB/Su-27KUB two seat Multirole fighter??
SoAB Mar 09, 2007, 02:04 PM Yes, it's called "Google". ;)
Best,
Oz
Yeah. Wikipedia works too.
But just to be nice and give you some direction... Mig 35 Flatpack is just one of the few names for the Mig 1.44/1.42/MIG-MFI.
"Flatpack" was the NATO codename for the aircraft though it seems strange for NATO to give a codename to a prototype aircraft.

Su-60 Ferret. You have to do some digging for this one, it's a fictional Russian stealth fighter.
A couple of model companies made a model of the Mig-37 "Ferret," being their interpretations of a fictional Russian stealth fighter during the 80s. Wyrmshadow's model seems more like a depiction of Russia's proposed PAK-FA 5th generation fighter.
http://www.fantastic-plastic.com/TESTORS%20MIG%2037-B%20FERRETT%20PAGE.htm
Mig 31 Firefox. The fictional Mach 3 Soviet fighter from the American movie "Firefox" with Clint Eastwood.

96nn Mar 09, 2007, 09:13 PM Aha, thanks. :goodjob: Sure good planes.
By the way, are there any designs of stealth attackers or bombers in Russia, like JSF and B2?
jatibi Mar 13, 2007, 07:34 AM i attached a very raw sketch of how i assign strength to aircrafts in my post-ww2 mod.
"V" is the basic value, interceptors have V both for Attack/Defense.
For fighters which are able to carry bombs, the defense value i assign usually a third of V.
Bombers have V as defense.
Wyrmshadow Mar 13, 2007, 07:40 AM I can't make any units right now. My hard drives are all failing. So now I have to spend time backing everything up on DVD's. I have atleast 70gig of irreplacable civ stuff so it's taking a while. There's no telling when or how I'll be able to fix the currently problem.
taube87 Mar 13, 2007, 09:15 AM ohh, i set a very big ball rolling :(
Ares de Borg Mar 13, 2007, 10:13 AM Dang. That's annoying. I hope you'll find a solution soon! Best wishes!
BadKharma Mar 13, 2007, 10:08 PM Oh no that is a serious set back. I hope you can get it figured out.
96nn Mar 14, 2007, 12:58 AM :cringe: Misfortune...
Wyrmshadow Mar 14, 2007, 01:02 PM Time to answer a few questions.
I have not heard about the Mig-35 Flatpack, Su-60 Ferret and Firefox... Are there any descriptions?
SoAB got it mostly right.
The Mig-35 IS the MiG 1.44 or MFI. I had just found the designation in Wikipedia for it.
The Su-60 Ferret is just a name I gave this model I found. It looks like a combination of a Flanker and a Raptor. I wish that there was a computer model of the Italeri Mig-37 Ferret but sofar no such luck. Since no current aircraft takes the Su-60 or "Ferret" desgination, that is what I chose for this fictional stealth aircraft.
Yes the Mig-31 Firefox is a fictional movie stealth fighter. I had made one a few years ago but it's currently nowhere online.
By the way, are there any designs of stealth attackers or bombers in Russia, like JSF and B2?
Look Here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=194588)
If you do not see what you are looking for, I do not have it. There are maybe 5-10 aircraft models I have not yet worked with so there are no previews for them Some of them are the S-2 Tracker and S-3 Viking. Russia does not have anything like the B-2 or JSF. The closest thing is the large delta winged bomber at the end of the Russian Bomber row in the picture called the T-4MS. It is not real, only a prototype on paper.
I am still trying to back everything up on DVD's but it's slow going. I've burned about 20 discs sofar and I think I'm only halfway through. Earlier this week I was using Bryce6 to render some really high quality previews of some of my large ships, but suddenly the shortcut for it said my computer couldn't find it. When I went to go look for my B6 directory, it said that my drive needed to be formated. Not a majoy problem because I just got another download from DAZ last week for the newest patch for the program. However, I don't use B6 to set things up, I use B5... and B5.5 to render since they dont crash. And those could cause a problem should I lose them. This problem has been going on for 2 weeks seriosly and 3 months on and off. I'm guessing it might be virus related but all my scanners have found are cookies, nothing serious. Really aggravating for me. Incase of a fire, I'd be trying to save my computer, that's how important my work is to me. And right now I cannot afford to buy a whole new system. The one I'm currently using is almost 4 years old and until now has been doing fine.
Yes I want to finish this project and go onto tanks and ships, but it's going to have to be delayed for an indeterminate length of time. That means its broke and I don't know if or when I can fix it so please don't waste your time or my time by asking about it.
96nn Mar 15, 2007, 12:52 AM :) Thank Wyrm.
 I am quite sad to hear about this. Your project is very splendid. I hope your computer will be recovered and you can restart your project soon. Your works are excellent.:)
Steph Mar 15, 2007, 01:02 PM Yes I want to finish this project and go onto tanks and ships, but it's going to have to be delayed for an indeterminate length of time. That means its broke and I don't know if or when I can fix it so please don't waste your time or my time by asking about it.
So, when do you plan to finish this set :p ?
Goldflash Mar 15, 2007, 02:29 PM Not funny, Steph.
Wyrmshadow Mar 15, 2007, 05:05 PM Steph goes to the source on MSN, so he thinks he's being cute. It's the other, newer, poeple that don't realize they are either annoying, or just plain illiterate.
I'm almost done burning back-ups. I don't know when I can build a new system because I'm strapped for cash at the moment.
taube87 Mar 16, 2007, 10:04 AM i hope you don't use vista ;)
gentimjs Mar 25, 2007, 10:38 AM The mig25 and su15 seem to have some minor in-game palette issues, with some bright-white areas being rendered as dark grey. Am I the only one noticing this? Are my GFX settings messed?
Absolutly outstanding units by the way!
SoAB Mar 29, 2007, 01:14 PM Interesting... the first page has updated previews. So does that Wyrmshadow is back in business or is this needless pestering? If it is, I apologize.
But I must say that's some mighty fine work. I'm loving that Yak 44 AEW. And is that a naval Su-17? Almost makes you wish they really existed. Almost anyways.
But whatever the case, good luck in your efforts Wyrmshadow.
Wyrmshadow Mar 29, 2007, 02:27 PM It's very very slow going.
MatteLeDog Apr 07, 2007, 06:34 AM I'v been absent from Civ-3 too long, a lot of nice stuff is being made by the unit masters. I have to make the Mig-15 & 19 in PLAAF and North Korean markings. Great stuff as usual, I hope the hard drive trouble works out.
Ares de Borg Apr 10, 2007, 01:59 AM Just noticed the updated pictures. Very promising! Good luck for your computer restauration.
Solinus Apr 12, 2007, 02:22 PM Looks out-frigging standing, man. :)
Wyrmshadow Apr 13, 2007, 03:43 AM uploaded 11 new aircaft, look for the new links.
Ares de Borg Apr 13, 2007, 03:59 AM Outstanding work, glad you could fix your computer. Thanks!

"Doom, doo, doo, doo, doom, The Champ is Here!" "Doom, doo, doo, doo, doom, The Champ is Here!" "Doom, doo, doo, doo, doom, The Champ is Here!"
Good work Wyrmshadow. Definately. The Mig 21K was a pleasant suprise.
The forger looks a bit bigger (dimensions) than it's real self... but that's good. The real Yak-38 was lacking, at best, especially compared to its counterparts in the west. This forger actually looks like it could do some damage.
And I'm not sure how I'm going to use the Yak 44 Myoptic but when a unit looks that good, you find a way. I'm just not sure how an AWACs aircraft would fit in Civ3, besides recon.
But an AWACs does so much more than recon. And the player allready has fighters for that mission. Hmmm...
This is first idea that comes to mind.
-Autoproduceable only by small wonder.
-Make the unit capable of air interception only, long range, with low-mediocre A/D values but with +4 or 5 hp. The idea being that the aircraft itself is weak but it's capabilities (vectoring friendlies onto the target) is it's real defense value.
-Also the game seems let the 'strongest' unit (as in most HP) take the first attack. So for a high priority target like an AWACs, it makes sense that it would get bombed first in an airstrike. Better rebase them at a secure area and use the AWAC's long range to an advantage.
Anyways, good work. I can't wait for the Flankers.
taube87 Apr 13, 2007, 04:28 PM i really don't want to pestering you wyrm, but i noticed that some aircrafts have the same problem as your older ones. furthermore i note that you have fixed the old problem by editing index 239. perhaps you can transfer it :p
please note: this is only constructional criticism. your units are wonderful and better as all other modern aircraft units!
perhaps you can update your upcoming units :shifty:
Wyrmshadow Apr 14, 2007, 02:51 AM any other color screw ups I should know about?
gentimjs Apr 14, 2007, 05:20 AM On the mig21, su15 and mig25, some of the white areas are rendering as transparent in one or two directions. Barely noticable on the mig21, very pronounced on the mig25.
taube87 Apr 14, 2007, 05:39 AM perhaps it's a problem with white (255red, 255green and 255blue) and black (0red, 0green and 0blue) because it's only in these complete white or black areas.
i'm afraid that all your new aircraft have this problem :( with the exception of a few (yak-130, ...)
Wyrmshadow Apr 14, 2007, 05:48 AM There's goes my saturday. I just ran through all my planes in Civ3flcEdit and it seems the majority of them have this problem. The old ones I will have to reanimate because I had to erase the storyboards but the new ones can fix relatively easily.
crap
Virote_Considon Apr 14, 2007, 07:44 AM Are you sure that it's like that in-game? From what I remember, sometimes units seem screwed in flcEdit, but actually work fine in-game.
96nn Apr 14, 2007, 07:50 AM Congratulation for Wyrm's coming back.
But, Wyrm, why the links of "Su-25 Frogfoot", "Yak-141 Freestyle", "Mig-28 Fidget", "Beriev P-42 Murky" and "Yak-44 Myopicis" are all invalid...
SoAB Apr 14, 2007, 10:39 AM Updates and problem fixes. Though, I didn't notice anything wrong with the Yak 141 and Mig 28 Fidget. I haven't downloaded the Frogfoot yet or put the Murky or Myopic in my game yet, so I'm not sure if there is a problem with those.
Taube posted some pictures of whats wrong with the frogfoot and murky, though.
Lord Shadow Apr 14, 2007, 08:17 PM One little thing about the Su-60's name. Russians don't use even numbers to name their fighters, so it should be either Su-59 or Su-61 (should you want to stick around 60). Same deal with the MiG-28, but I guess that's a tribute to Top Gun? Those MiGs were actually "converted" American F-5 Tigers. :)

Uhm that goes for Mikoyan fighters yes, but you do know there are Su-24, Su-20, Su-22, Su-30, Su-34, Yak-28, Yak-38 and so on.
Anyway, nice to see that you are back at it again after the comp trouble Wyrmshadow.

Not that many, from what I can tell the MiG-28 and the Firefox, some of the others never entered service but nevertheless were technology demonstrators and useful for research. I think the U.S took an interest in the Yak-141 Freestyle when developing the JSF, and the MiG-35 and Su-47 have probably been useful for the Russian 5th gen jet fighter program. I think the naval/carrier version of the MiG-23 might be considered fictional as well.
Ozymandias Apr 15, 2007, 02:37 PM I think the naval/carrier version of the MiG-23 might be considered fictional as well.
Didn't the Soviets go with a VTOL for the Moskva & Kiev? - there's a treaty in place prohibiting the passage of aircraft carriers through the Dardanelles, so I know these were classified as helicopter carriers; maybe VTOLs also side-stepped the treaty?

Yes it's true that the Soviet stuck to the awful example of VTOL aircraft
that is the Forger for their Kiev class carriers. I think the Dardanelles problem
was circumvented by classifying them as "cruisers", however I'm not sure that any of the larger Kievs were based in the Black Sea fleet or Mediterranean squadron. The MiG-23 carrier version might have been a reality if the Soviets had gone for a Larger carrier vessel (like the ones the U.S operates), a few such options were studied during the post war years but was never realised for various reasons. The Soviets actually started construction of a "super carrier" type, but it was scrapped when the U.S.S.R. was disolved. The closest thing to the U.S. counterparts is the Kuznetsov class. But what is easily forgotten when making cold war force comparisons, Soviet doctrine is not the same as U.S. or NATO, the intent was never to create a Soviet copy of the U.S. fleet.
Wyrmshadow Apr 15, 2007, 05:30 PM I erased the aircraft with the pallette issues. Turned out to be nearly half of them. I didnt see any problems in Flicster but it was painfully obvious in Civ3FlcEdit.
Lord Shadow: Your new title is now Master of the Bleeding Obvious.

Lord Shadow: Your new title is now Master of the Bleeding Obvious.
As I said a bit earlier, I think this is JUST a problem with Civ3FlcEdit. I've noticed it on many units, and I think it only effects pure white and pure black. In game (like in Flickster) this should be fine.#
EDIT: some examples that look bad in Civ3FlcEdit (which the images are from) that don't look invisible in game

Wyrmshadow Apr 16, 2007, 03:28 AM Thank you. But before I kill myself redoing all of the planes, Could someone that has already downloaded all of the planes check in game. It seems the E/W directions show the most problems, in civ3flcedit. Now, could someone do that and PM me their findings. I haven't modded civ3 in years, and I'm highly drunk at the moment (long day at work) so I'm in no shape to do any higher brain function work. Plus I just don't like clutter in my threads, so just PM your findings.
Wyrmshadow Apr 16, 2007, 06:25 AM Well the problem was that I didn't notice ANY sort of problem when I used Flicster. And I don't use the other one because it's just so much faster to use the old method. When I put it through flcEdit there were major problems with the Mig-25 and such in the white spectrum.
Virote_Considon Apr 16, 2007, 06:44 AM I think if Flicster displays them as good, you should leave it at that. I unfortunately don't have any of the "problem" planes DL'd to test, but I'm pretty sure that they'd look perfect in game.
taube87 Apr 16, 2007, 10:11 AM here a screen with 8 of your aircrafts. terrain is edited into red and the blue marks point up smaller areas
edit: btw: the updated fagot looks perfect!
Wyrmshadow Apr 16, 2007, 02:42 PM Why do I even bother writing anything when no one pays attention? This morning I spent a painful hour chatting with Steph about a pallete problem that I had already come to the same conclusion over the weekend. Why was it painful? Because repeatedly I told him I had been awake all night, tired with a hangover but he kept ignoring me.
I have civ3flc edit. I have already seen that. I asked for an in-game shot.
Why do I even bother anymore???
Hey, lets see if anyone pays attention now: I killed and ate 5 poeple and I wear their skin on nights out with my pet penguin.
Virote_Considon Apr 16, 2007, 03:11 PM I think that is an in-game shot, just with completely red terrain to make it easier to see.

No pb. It's not as if I had suspended my job at the office during one hour trying to help you, thinking from your posts here you had some difficulty to see where was the error as it doesn't show in flicster.

cemo1956 Apr 18, 2007, 03:10 PM Why can't I DL the Mig-28 the Freestyle and several others of the latest from this OUTSTANDING package ????
Is it late and I'm drunk or what ...
Virote_Considon Apr 18, 2007, 03:18 PM They have some kind of pixel-problem, which makes the pure-white and pure-black pixels invisible. :(
EDIT: This has probably been tried, but would changing the pallet so that the pure white changes from RGB 255,255,255 to 254,254,254 and black from 0,0,0 to 1,1,1 work?
Steph Apr 19, 2007, 01:27 AM It has little to do with the RGB, but with the index of the colour used. But you know, Wyrm doesn't want our help, he knows where the problem is.
LapGrizzly Apr 21, 2007, 08:04 PM "Invalid File ID".

MatteLeDog Apr 23, 2007, 03:04 PM "Invalid File ID".

taube87 Apr 27, 2007, 08:49 AM your second versions looks very good! :goodjob:
thx for all your work ...
the alternative flanker is really funny! putin wouldn't be very happy
Wyrmshadow Apr 28, 2007, 06:44 AM It was a simple product recall. I couldn't have you using inferior animations. If you havent noticed I have fixed all of the planes except the naval Flogger. I am totally redoing that one for now.
I have also rearanged the files yet again in anticipation of a new set of aircraft I'll be doing soon.
Wyrmshadow Apr 29, 2007, 09:10 AM New fictional naval units are up and I have about 12 more fighters to make before I move onto cargo and bombers.
SoAB Apr 29, 2007, 10:45 AM Lol! You're a tease when it comes to those Flankers aren't ya? Anyways keep up the good work. I like that A-6 Intruderski (aka the Tu-15 Burgular). Though an A-6 with swing wings would have been an interesting concept. You may have to trade off payload and maintainability for speed but speed = life at times.
Great unit, I love it.
thefusilier May 01, 2007, 07:01 AM Absolutely amazing collection. This is why I still play CivIII.
taube87 May 03, 2007, 01:11 PM It is possible to make some fictional aircrafts without markings? these would be very usefull for generic units. your ferret would be indicative of a generic stealthfighter or 5th generation jet.
every epic mod needs your amazing aircrafts :D
LapGrizzly May 03, 2007, 04:11 PM I have not commended Wyrmshadow for his great work yet.
*Begins replacing units in TCW deluxe and World 2004*
Excellent :D
Simon Darkshade May 04, 2007, 03:28 AM The new fictional Red Naval aircraft are resplendent. They will work very well with some ideas I have been tossing around about Project 24Rs, Project 82Rs, Project 66Rs, Project 72s and other goodies.
Wyrmshadow May 07, 2007, 02:02 AM The basic Flankers are all now up, so I'm done with Russian fighters for now. Any future Flankers will be just color conversions etc.
cemo1956 May 07, 2007, 03:49 AM One of your very good collections.
My hat off to you Wyrmshadow and I wish I could buy you a drink or something.
If I dare wisper (and it's not a request or something similar) a little wish that your next collection we all will have the good grace of seeing is the RAF from the 50's until today.
Please don't spank me if this was to bold. I just had a personal wish
BadKharma May 07, 2007, 04:46 PM Once again great job! You truly makes excellent units and in volume also.
Wyrmshadow May 10, 2007, 05:42 PM bombers are up

Wyrmshadow May 10, 2007, 08:36 PM Looked at the bombers, they look really great. But is there a reason the Tu=166 isn't included?
Because I don't have a model, you got a problem with that?

Wyrmshadow May 10, 2007, 10:10 PM Let me explain in perfect english just WHY I get 'angsty'.
I sit infront of a computer for dozens of hours at a time making these things. I am awake at all hours of the night trying to finish them. I create quality units in great quantity. Now, when some woman takes a look at all the work I have just finished and demands why I didn't do more... I get a little peeved.
Yes you are a woman because only a chic would complain in such a way. Also... only a chic would demand something and on top of that... be exquisitly wrong about it. Wrong you say? Yes... There is no such thing as a Tupolev Tu-166. I am assuming the chic meant the Tu-160 Blackjack, of which I do not own an adequate model. Therefore it will not be made at this time because I don't make crap. That's why I took away all those aircraft with poor palletes and redid them.
Don't like those terms? Make it yourself.. oh that's right, you can't. If you could then you would have already done so. As for being rude, you're lucky I take time out to respond instead of just putting you into my Ignore list.
Have a nice day y'all.
Ares de Borg May 11, 2007, 04:06 AM Please calm down, Grizzly. No need to be childish here.
As for the bombers: Quality work as usual. :)
Ozymandias May 11, 2007, 08:12 AM Two things:
1) I didn't read your drawn-out BS reply.
2) Minimum input, maximum output. It's just too easy to piss you off! ahahaa
How about reading one drawn-out reply (I trust you don't have A.D.D.) which I have used successfully (meaning the recipient understood) before:
Many here turn out (or have turned out) superb artwork, but Wyrmshadow is in the (AFAIK) unique position of being a human artistic Civ machine, turning out (and redoing!) more units than I can count, with an all but unrivaled perfectionist's eye.
I do not mean to apologize for mine or anybody else's rudeness, but I do understand. I write novels for a living, and know more than a few literary agents. For whatever set of reasons, every reputable literary agent in the country is inundated these days with queries, unsolicited manuscripts, etc. One whom I regard as having high ethical standards nevertheless performs triage: as she cannot become infinitely backlogged, once a week she simply throws away anything she hasn't had a chance to look at; it's that or be eternally behind. Yes, she knows she might be (literally) trashing the next Stephen King, and that countless hopeful writers will wait in vain for her response. She's stopped feeling badly about it because it's what she must do to carry on.
I mention this as an analogy to Wyrmshadow. Due to the very high quality and quantity of his work (in short, a huge amount of his free time), he rarely takes requests, and, if working on a project, will ask for feedback if he wants it. After awhile, the unsolicited becomes overwhelming (hence my analogy) and he deals with it in his own, inimitable way.
Unfortunately, there's no way to know this in advance, and many newcomers to Wyrmshadow's ways (and I have witnessed this many times during the five years or so of sharing these boards with him) have felt unfairly treated by his seeming impatience. Yet I suggest that the real and only "trick" is to not make the same unintentional mistake twice. If one can manage that, one might discover that, not only is he an extraordinary gift to this on-line community, but that he can be both very forgiving and thence both very helpful and very generous.
With My Best Regards,
Ozymandias
P.S. to LapGrizzly - I don't suppose you like poking your eponym (look it up) with a stick for fun ... ?
P.S. to Wyrmshadow - one of us should probably keep this in our sigs ... :joke: (I'll C&P as required ;) )

Simon Darkshade May 12, 2007, 01:38 AM Great bombers, old boy. I like the Bisons, particularly - reminds me of the old trick that was pulled at a May Day parade in Moscow to make the observers think there were a whole lot more of them.

I know of that anecdote. US observers on the roof of the embassy saw an 88 paited on the side of either a Bison or Badger, and so assumed they had atleast 88 of them.. That was the mythical "Bomber Gap" that was disproven with U2 over flights. Russians have a habbit of renaming ships a lot and painting new numbers on their aircraft.
The M-50 Bounder was played up to be the Soviet Atomic Powered bomber... but it was a miserable failure both in aeronautical design and engine developement. Early russian jet bombers suffered from terrible jet engine designs that did not perform as promised. About the only thing they got right was the Bear.
SoAB May 12, 2007, 09:35 AM I can't believe you're carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders like that nice AN-225 you made. Great Job, though!
I guess when it comes to these projects, its like an intense desire. But it's a desire you glady carry though. You take pride in this work and you can't wait to get your thoughts down on paper, pixel, whathave you.
That's the heart of an artist right there.

Certainly. The Bomber Gap was even more pronounced at that stage; even when Cuba came about, there was a literally huge divide between USAF bombers and Long Range Aviation assets - 630 odd B-52s, 800-900 B-47s, 226 ICBMs, not to mention 144 naval strategic bombers; for the Soviets, 15 Tu-95M, 25 Tu-95 and about 50 Bisons. With 6 R-7s thrown in for good measure.
The early Russian jet bombers were rough and ready designs; playing catch up does result in cutting a fair few corners.
If we postulate a time between 1956-1961 where Nikita Sergeyevich does not bring his unique perspective to affairs, or even if Uncle Joe stuck around for a bit longer... then we see some interesting circumstances with a lot of these fine aircraft ye have done.
Ozymandias May 12, 2007, 01:44 PM Hi Wyrmshadow,

God dude will you fraking chill? I was an honest question, I didn't know if perhaps you forgot the link or something, and I was trying to be helpfull. I did not demand a goddamned thing, I didn't even request anything... Look Wyrm your a wonderfull unit maker, but if your going to go on a freaking rant every time someone politely asks a very simple question then you are one screwed up human being.
As for the designation, I'm sorry I made a freaking typo.
jatibi May 12, 2007, 04:57 PM hello wyrm,
before i'm going to count pixels, could you tell me, what the relation in size is between the bombers and fighters? you used two different standards for them.
Wyrmshadow May 12, 2007, 06:10 PM hello wyrm,
before i'm going to count pixels, could you tell me, what the relation in size is between the bombers and fighters? you used two different standards for them.
Exactly,I used 2 different standards between the bombers and fighters. If its a bomber/transport or around 100 feet long then I used a smaller scale, for the fighters it was slightly larger. The fighters are a minimum 55 pixels long, the flankers are a the top.. about 100 pixels longs. I just used an algebraic equation to find the slope between them. The bombers are the same, I took a min and max and found the slope.
Wyrmshadow May 13, 2007, 03:37 AM Okay, Hippy Smothers Day everyone.
Cargo planes are all posted. This is the last purely Russian/Soviet aircraft. I am done. Any further soviet era aircraft will be in other threads as other nationalities with sufficient modifications.
Simon Darkshade May 13, 2007, 04:32 AM Huzzah for the Smothers Brothers!
They are a fine conclusion to an excellent plate of units. I would say that I particularly like the look of your Antonov-22, but then they would arrest me. Again.
The VDV have their transports.
Wyrmshadow May 13, 2007, 04:55 AM Huzzah for the Smothers Brothers!
Actually thats from a local radio commercial about a 4 year old making a Mother's Day present but spelling it poorly.
Simon Darkshade May 13, 2007, 06:03 AM Well there you go. I think this should lead to tougher sentences for 4 year olds. And geography teachers. :ack:

Exoticpollution May 13, 2007, 12:21 PM Great units. I have tried a few in game and they all look beautiful.
But I've had a problem with a couple of the units. I noticed that some of the variable geometry planes have flashing animations when they fly. I've found the problem with both such planes that I tried (the naval flogger and naval fencer). It looks like me as though some of the frames are going by too fast for me to see it but I'm not sure what it is.
I'm not sure if the problem is with the unit or something I've done. Any ideas? Thanks.
gentimjs May 14, 2007, 08:09 PM Ive noticed that with some other unitmaker's swing-wing planes as well. I think civ3 uses one or two of the "default" frames between loops of the "run" frame, so while just sitting there the unit has wings un-swept but while making an attack run flies swept, and as such there's a minor visual "glitch" between loops of the animation.
Just supposition based on observation, I'm sure someone else has a better explanation.
96nn May 31, 2007, 10:01 PM Wyrm, I introduced your units to the www.civclub.net of China. Because we have less of room, the link of download is civfanatics'. I think Chinese Civfans must love your units. Of course I won't forget to mark your and civfanatics' name.:D And I hope more Chinese fans will know civfanatics and come here.

Wyrmshadow May 31, 2007, 10:05 PM Well if any of your Chinese friends want to send me MODELS (3ds, max, obj) of Chinese aircraft then I can make units for them. I really need a J-10.
96nn May 31, 2007, 10:23 PM Thank you very much, Wyrm.:D
But it's a pity Civfans are few in China now. No one I known can make 3d models except la_dav.:( I will try to introduce Civ game to more people.
PS:
I guess la_dav have no enough time to make units now. His 3.75kg-weight son was born in March. He must be very very busy...
Wyrmshadow May 31, 2007, 10:25 PM That was quick! He sent me a picture of his (i guess) wife.. much prettier than his earlier girlfriend. I'm serious guys, she's a hotty, the old one just looked angry.
96nn May 31, 2007, 10:34 PM  I have not seen a photo of his baby. You can ask him to get one.
Virote_Considon Jun 02, 2007, 12:10 PM That would explain the whereabouts of the missing la_dav, then *phew*
Centaur Jun 04, 2007, 05:53 PM Very cool units, all of them.
do you have that space shuttle on the back of the An-225 Cossack (I think that's the right one) as a seperate unit?
Cheezy the Wiz Jun 08, 2007, 12:12 PM Jesus Christ that's a lot of units! They all look great, too!
I like how you included the Firefox
Bospor Jun 14, 2007, 04:22 PM This is my first post here, so don't kick me please for asking. I am not sure if this is the place to ask this question, but... When I saw all these Russian planes, I signed up for this forum just to get them. I want them in my game, but I don't know how to transfer all these planes there. Can someone explain or perhaps direct me to the forum where it is explained? Also, if I understand correctly, there are only 2 fighters and 2 bombers in the vanilla game. How can I use ALL these? Well, OK, not all of them, but I sure would love to use Mig-21, 25, 29 and 31, Su-24, 27, 30 and many others. How can I have them all in the game?

Solution 1: Wait for me to move to Russia in my mod.
Solution 2: Go in the tutorials subforum, you will get an explanation.
The difficulty is not to add the new units, it's "relatively" easy to do with the editor, it's to find a use for them. If you don't mind, I can just have all of them as the same time, with the same stats.
I strongly suggest you download Civ3Multitool (utilities subforum). With that, you can just copy the existing aircraft into n versions, and then rename it and change a few stats, it's much faster than manually add all the units one by one!
mr_lewington Oct 24, 2007, 09:26 PM im having a bit of trouble converting the RAR file to a standard file that civ3 can read. any suggestions?

Dude... .RAR files are a very common archive, like .zip files.
Do you have trouble turning your computer ON? Let alone surfing the net unchaperoned?
mr_lewington Oct 24, 2007, 10:09 PM lol um ok...thxs :goodjob: just not very familar with rar's

Quinzy Nov 03, 2007, 03:28 PM Read one of the tutorials on how to add them to the game :)
mr_lewington Nov 03, 2007, 03:31 PM sweet i think i got it 2 work, thxs:)
thefattestman Nov 03, 2007, 10:24 PM just asking, is there a way, somehow, to stop those "buy WinRar" popups on start, without actually buying it?
PaGe Nov 04, 2007, 04:42 AM Use 7zip (http://www.7-zip.org/), which also can handle rar-files and is 100% freeware.
gorn Nov 04, 2007, 05:31 PM Everytime I click on one of these planes, I'm taken to a screen that says I'm "downloading too fast" - even though I haven't downloaded a unit for days.
Anyone know what's up with that? Anyone else having the same problem? Is there any other way to download these units, or any other forum where they are posted?

19Delta Jan 06, 2008, 05:03 PM I like the way you made it look. Was the model in good order when I sent it to you? What do I need to work on the next time I give you a model?
Wyrmshadow Jan 06, 2008, 09:01 PM I like the way you made it look. Was the model in good order when I sent it to you? What do I need to work on the next time I give you a model?
I don't know what happens when you export something... but all the parts got jumbled up. Also I had to get rid of the wing fences because I didn't know where they went.. added in cockpit windows.. and totally threw out the wings. I had to use some from a B-1 I had. I'm not complaining too loudly because it's the best Blackjack model I've been able to get my hands on.
19Delta Jan 06, 2008, 09:47 PM I'm not sure what happens either. I've been playing around with Bryce. Whenever I export the track from my K1 it gets turned sideways and backwards. I'm not sure how I would fix that short of exporting it one part at a time, but I don't think that would be possible with more complex models. I hope to get more advanced with my models so that the next time I can give you something more complete.
The Blackjack itself looks very good. I never would've imagined that those used to be B1 wings on there. If I ever get a new video card then I will test this bird out on the battlefield. Right now all I can do is look at it in flicster.
Thanks very much for your help on this one.
SoAB Jan 07, 2008, 08:39 PM Nice Additions. I'm enjoying that Euro cammo Fulcrum (East German or Checz?), the new Fitter and the new Flankers. And I give you props for trying that Blackjack... you got to work with what you have and at least you gave it a shot.
19Delta Jan 07, 2008, 08:54 PM Not to be rude or anything, but the only other blackjack that I've seen on this site is an older model that didn't look so well. I'm glad that I could contribute to the completion of the red air force. At least something is going right for me.
SoAB Jan 07, 2008, 09:42 PM Well, I wasn't trying to be mean to you all. Or put you down for that matter. I'm sorry if you took offense to it. I seen the other blackjack you were talking about and it was hideous, so I certainly do appreciate your efforts with model. A decent Tu-160 is better than a crappy one.
But I'd be lying through my teeth if I said that there was no room for improvement. I'm no modeller so I can't tell you how do it. But they'res always room for growth, even if you're someone good.
And like I was telling Wyrmshadow, you got to work with what you've got at times. So just keep working at it. Hopefully there are ways or techniques to circumvent whatever flaws or difficulties that are in that program.
I for one saw what you were cooking up with that K1 tank, and I like it. Ever thought about taking on South Korea's new K2 tank, as well?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K2_Black_Panther
19Delta Jan 07, 2008, 11:31 PM I didn't mean for you to take me the wrong way. I didn't think you were rude, I just didn't want the guy who made the other Tu-160 to get offended. As far as the current model goes, I looked at in irfanview, and it looks like the best plane that I ever saw. I only made the model though, my contribution to this particular unit pack was very small.
I have been working on the K1 on and off, I'm still spending time trying to learn Bryce better. The K1 will be the first unit that I make and I want it to be just as good as some of the units that I see from wyrmshadow and some of the other unit creators that I see out there. I did see the K2. Depending on how the K1 goes, I will be trying my hand at that one. The only real difference between K1 and K2 is a new turret. The two tanks have the same hull, at least they looked the same in the video that I saw.
I've not got a lot of time to myself right now. Recruiting is hard as hell and it doesn't look like it's going to get any easier. Maybe if some of the ingrates that live in America stop trying to scare everyone away from the military, my job will get easier and I can have more free time, but now I'm starting to vent and I'm not going to jack wyrm's thread anymore.
Wyrmshadow Jan 09, 2008, 05:40 AM I added a little legal disclaimer at the bottom of the 1st post. Don't me mad, it's 100% accurate.
Redback Mar 24, 2008, 07:22 AM Wyrm! Can u fix the link for those two ones: Su-24M Fencer & Su-25 Frogfoot
Many tnx!
Wyrmshadow Mar 25, 2008, 12:57 AM I fixed the Su-24M but I didn't have a problem with the other one.

Jared11 Sep 21, 2008, 10:38 AM Hey, my first post.
Anyway, I haven't played this game in years. When I saw the 100's of new units on this site, I had to reinstall civIII. I downloaded your units and they work GREAT as well as look great. Just one question, they appear in the game bigger than the premade game aircraft. EX, the Tu-95 Bear looks bigger than the ingame bomber. And the Fishpot looks bigger ingame than the F-15. Now, this isn't an major issue, everything works fine. I am just asking if this is supposed to be, or did I miss up anything when install the units. BTW, the 'su' class of aircraft all look great ! I downloaded and added about 11 of these plans to my game. They give the game such a great new taste.
And one other minor question if I may ask. my unit 32 is filled up, how do I make the grid bigger? Is there a template to download somewhere and add to the other in photoshop? Thanks all, And thanks WW for making such great units !!
Steph Sep 21, 2008, 11:11 AM how do I make the grid bigger?
Did you try... resize?
Jared11 Sep 21, 2008, 05:27 PM I mean, How do I ad more of the unit squares? I know I'd have to expand the pallet size, but like, do I make the backgroudn the same color as the units32 image file. Pretty much, what I am asking is how would I add more squares to the units image to put more units into the game?
BadKharma Sep 21, 2008, 07:58 PM Jared look at the bottom of the first post in this thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=130897) in the attachments you will find a new units 32.
Steph Sep 22, 2008, 02:21 AM I mean, How do I ad more of the unit squares? I know I'd have to expand the pallet size, but like, do I make the backgroudn the same color as the units32 image file. Palette size? What are you talking about?
Just take the unit32.pcx file, increase the size of the file, be sure the palette stays the same, and then open the unit32.pcx file provided with each new unit, anc copy and paste in the large file.
Wyrmshadow Sep 22, 2008, 02:45 AM As per usual Steph has a terrible choice of words.
Add new lines, you can fit quite a few new units. Just don't add columns.
Steph Sep 22, 2008, 02:53 AM You can also add columns if you want.
I have a unit32 pcx with 26 columns, and enough lines to fit 5000 units.
You just have to be sure the width and height match the correct size, ie if you want to add a new columns, extend the size by 33 pixels (32 pixels for the icon +1 pixel for the border).
If you add columns, the problem is that all the currently existing icons (starting the second line) will be offset.
If if you have 10 columns and 3 lines, and add two columns, then icon index 14 will become 16. Icon 25 will become 29.
So it is better to add lines only, unless you really need more columns to organize your unit 32 better.
Jared11 Sep 23, 2008, 03:18 PM I added that new unit 32 temp. works fine now. Just one last question, how big are the units supposed to be inside the game? Mine look the same size as in the pics of the aircraft you posted. Is that the size they are supposed to appear in the game as well?
