Congrats on your jobs, looking forward to the fruits of your eldership Chieftess and dutchfire.

Heating hasn't been invented yet. Must be the tropical sun. :p (Of course, we don't know WHERE we are yet, either...)

I'd like to be Junior Elder :p

[official voice]May I notify you of the fact that the first turnchat instruction thread has been posted, and that it is your responsibility, granted to you by the people, to post instructions concerning your position in aformentioned thread. [/official voice]

Any screenies you want me to take? We won't settle this turn, so some overview screenies, maybe something soomed in on the settler?

I'm sure you've already seen it, but she's already voiced one of her instructions (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=5155616&postcount=5)

So, when is the first turnchat? (in GMT and EST) Also, remember to use the naming convention: C4DG2_BC4000_desc when naming the save. You should also post a Turnchat thread so officials can post instructions. Yes, even for the Creation Day Chat - even if the only things posted are, "Post screenshots!". Remember, we may not want to settle where we are. In fact, don't even settle (an instruction from the elder -- I guess I can give that one). :)

dutchfire
Mar 01, 2007, 09:24 AM
I don't think the elder is in control of the settler before the city is settled, is it? Or do we have to go to court to determine that first :p.

Anyway, I just wanted to notify her that she should post what she wants, which screenshot mainly. And whether gridlines should be on or off for the screenshots, and whether resource bubbles and tile yields should be on or off.

After all the celebrations on New Years Eve of 4000 BC, Dutchfire wakes up feeling very tired. After he washes himself in the river nearby he decides to take a good look around to see where he actually is. All that beer the night before has made him forget some things. He starts walking along the river until he gets to some yellow ground. He has walked through forests and over grasslands, but walking over yellow ground doesn't seem to interesting to him. And the natives tell him that it is called flood plain. Dutchfire doesn't like floods, so that one more reason to stop here. He decides to go back on the other side of the river. He sees even more forests and hills here. Finally he comes to another hill, and there is a shiny substance coming from this hill. Dutchfire is interested and takes some of this substance. Although he's interested by this hill, he feels cold. He decides to go back to his tribe and report his findings, hoping that the others are awake too after last night's party.

To make this story shorter, the game has been created, and we're in a grassy area with lots of forests and hills, and the only resource in sight is silver.

Hmm, sounds like the north? (Silver is rare in my games and tends to be in the north). I'll check the save after dinner.

There are floodplains to our north, and tundra is to our south, so we're in the south.

Also, resource bouble points up, so we're below the equator.

Elder Chieftess,

Your city awaits!

Without guidance, I started a Scout, that we might begin to learn of the land around us. After some expansion from culture, we've got wheat without our borders. A most promising start!

Guide your city to greatness, Elder!

Some preliminary thoughts before getting ready for work. (real work. :p)

Turn 6 - Make sure the wheat is used, along with a forested-grassland on a river.

I'd like to see us get to size 2 before building another worker, although I don't think it'll make that much of a difference.

After the worker -

1 - Irragate wheat
2 - Irragate a nearby grassland tile
3 - Chop a forest (on a hill most likely)

Our next game session is this Saturday. If possible, could you post your instructions before Friday, so we can discuss them?

Thanks!

May I suggest we change the build back to warrior and increase production

from 3 to 4 hammers/turn, lest we lose the game right now, if French just

wants it?

I used to worry about that in Civ2, but I haven't seen it happen in Civ4. Am I missing something?

It won't happen. The AI just doesn't do that.

Chieftess
Mar 10, 2007, 01:47 PM
This isn't Civ3 or Civ2, the AI doesn't "risk it all" at the start of the game.

Anyone interested in some sort of GotM, but with a starting position resembling our capital? I could make one with world builder. It would give us some ideas of how our city can develop.

This would be a good question to ask in the citizen's forum. Some people may object to taking such an analytical approach. On the other hand, it might serve as a good test of potential candidates city management skills for the next election. :)

Please, what is a GotM?

Best regards,

It's a competition where everyone starts with the same save and play the game out. The end results are than compared against each other. Here are links to the GOTM site (http://gotm.civfanatics.net/) and the GOTM Forums (http://forums.civfanatics.com/forumdisplay.php?f=165). Edit: BTW, the civ4 stuff is on the right and the civ3 stuff is on the left at the GOTM site.

I hope that helps.

Edit #2: Here's the upcoming WOTM7 (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=211313), which is a Warlords game. It'll start on the 15th. GOTM16 (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=209745) is the current vanilla game and will end on the last day of this month.

It won't happen. The AI just doesn't do that.

They have been programmed to give you a certain period of safety, depending on the difficulty level. After this period of time has past, the more aggressive AIs would declare war on you if they consider you weak.

Yes, it would eventually happen. But for now, we're okay temporarily.

Elder Chieftess,

What do you plan to build after the settler? I'm hoping another warrior.

Chieftess
Mar 18, 2007, 01:00 PM
Yes, a warrior is planned.

I posted it elsewhere in the Citizens forum -

Warrior, Scout, Granary, Settler, warrior (maybe).
It's preliminary right now.

I'll be sending the worker over to the second city for a while (until it has a worker of it's own) so please request any work you want the worker for before it's moved.

I would like to forest chop (or mine the forested hill) the city for a settler (or granary).

Chieftess,
Some time ago some of our brave citizens decided to move out and find other places to inhabit. They've finally found a good spot and intend on settling it soon. I've been asked to lead them, so it's time for me to resign as deputy and start doing the real job. Hopefully we can work together until the end of the term.
