View Full Version : SGOTM Mac team?

I'm just wondering how much interest there is in forming a Mac team for the Succession Games of the Month. I'm not nearly the caliber of player to take charge of a team, but I willing to be a teammember :)

I currently play the gotm, but have yet to submit a game.

I'm interested, but I also inhabit the lower levels of the GOTM.

It's not about winning, but taking part :)

You can form a team even now for Warlords SGOTM 4, as long as the players haven't visited any of the existing team threads.

There were two Mac sign-ups for SOGTM 4 - Ankh-f-n-Khonsu and Puddleduck. We were not able to form a Mac team because two players do not form a quorum.

I'm playing vanilla, so warlords isn't an option for me. I probably should have noted that in the original post.

I should also note that I'm not extremely familiar with the system. I've only read through one SG thread, and that was a civ3 game. However, it was simply fascinating to compare the 3 teams' strategies - the similarities, the convergence, &c. Certainly, it's piqued my interest as a way to improve my game and have some fun!

How many active members are recommended for a team? I'd imagine 5 or 6 would be the minimum. Hopefully there's enough interest here :)

I'd love to play, and tried in this latest, but not enough of you wanted to join in. Now I'm screwed even if people want to join in, as I've been hanging around one of the team threads.

Next time this comes around I'll try to motivate some of ya...

Bad timing, I guess!!

I didn't know you were trying to recruit - but maybe this thread can serve to set up a team for April's game, as well as March's.

At the very least, we'll see how much interest there is for the next one.

You can find information about how the Civ4 SGOTMs work in the Reference Thread

The games use the generic "Game of the Month" branding, but we don't start one a month, and they all last three or four months - sometimes longer. The next game we start will be a vanilla Civ4 game, probably in around six weeks time

Five players would be a minimum starting team, given the possibility of players having to drop out due to real life pressures. Six or seven is more usual.

Great... I'm definitely on board for the next one. I didn't realize they weren't started new every month. This will allow more time to see if there are additional mac players interested :)

I'm interested, but don't know what's ask from me, and i'm far from sober this moment (02.34 am). But i will join, if i know more

Well, we're up to 5 so far... not a bad start :)

Unless you have participated in a Succession Game before, make sure to read the Reference Thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=168439). It would also be a good idea to lurk one of the current game's teams, to get a feel for how other people handle the game.

Current game is here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/forumdisplay.php?f=196).

I just wanted to say that I would be interested in joining a (vanilla) Mac SGOTM team.

Heya Dojo! We did that Macmayaniacs game back in 3. We rocked the world!

I'd love to do a SG game again. I have Warlords so either way. I'm a newb at IV, but I'm playing hard and learning every game.

Playing WoW with my son. Got a little burned out so finally picked up IV a few weeks ago. Having much fun, but wished it ran better on this comp. Seems so sluggish.

Anybody want to try a practice SG? I imagine I'm not the only Mac player who hasn't played in one yet, and it might be worthwhile getting out feet wet if we're serious about entering the next competition. I've been watching one of the teams in the current game, and would love to give it a shot...

Perhaps. But, we'd need to set it up in the correct forum, and place a notice that it's a Mac-only venture. I'd say 6-7 players would be good, because not everyone will be able to make their turn always.

I'm not that good in Vanilla, i choose the wrong strategy.

Hm, I'll pass on a vanilla SG/SGOTM. No worries if you guys opt for it.

If someone wants to mail me a Warlords DVD, I'll be happy to play a Warlords SG ;) .

My main preference is that enough people are willing to play; this trumps my lesser preference for Warlords, so I'm in with either. Given that the greater preference is for Vanilla, I guess that's the plan.

Looks like the following are interested so far: willpax, peter grimes, dr s, Onagan, me. Five is enough, do you reckon? Anybody else out there who hasn't chimed in? Another one or two would be ideal, I gather. Sure you don't want to play Vanilla, dojoboy?

Has anybody played one of these before? If so, I nominate you captain. :D

Sure you don't want to play Vanilla, dojoboy?

It's not an aversion to vanilla Civ4, but just that I want to focus on Warlords. Vanilla is a good game, but Warlords is a better version. Another reason why I don't want to get into a vanilla Civ4 game is that I'm already in a PBEM vanilla game, which we started prior to Warlords release.

Do y'all want to try a game with five players, which it seems is the level of interest we have? I tend to play at Prince, btw, but imagine a higher difficulty would be fine given that SG is more or less consensus-driven, so most of my mistakes would be prevented through discourse.

I would see this as a learning experience for all of us. Just knowing I would have to explain what I wanted to do to others will probably do wonders for the level of concentration I usually bring to a game.

I threw my hat into the ring earlier in the thread.

I too would prefer Warlords as I'm getting more familiar with it's nuances.

I you want to try out a game, i would recommend Noble (no advantage/disadvantage)

But, i'm fine with everything ;)

The official SGs apparently have pretty interesting objectives, but probably we should just start a game and see where it takes us, with the sole objective to win. For sake of discussion, how about we start a Vanilla game (else the number of players will drop to 3 or 4), Noble difficulty (per Onagan's suggestion), standard continental, random leader. I'm not attached to any of these settings, if anybody has something more specific in mind.

I'd like to play with the latest HOF mod, if that's okay with everyone.

Dojoboy mentioned setting it up in the correct forum, but I'm not certain the GOTM forum is the place for what is essentially a test game. Of course, I don't ultimately care where the thread resides.

Well the HOF mod is now compulsory for the SGOTM so it's probably worth trying the latest one to see if you have the same problems. If so, then AlanH will be the person to talk to about it.

Indeed, you have to tell us. If I don't know about bugs I can't get them fixed. We resolved a hammer column sorting problem, for example, that was raised by a Mac user.

Please don't assume I know about bugs you spot. I don't play the game.

The GOTM and SGOTM forums are all about competitions. You are not proposing a competition among multiple teams, I presume, so the SG forum is where you want to be, as proposed by Dojoboy. Anyone can start a game there. The fact that you are restricting it to Mac users is ... interesting, but that's no reason why it should be in a different place.

Ah! I hadn't seen the SG sub-forum under Stories & Tales. And from the looks of things, dojoboy already set up a thread.

Alan,

Do you know when the next SGOTM will start, and will it be a vanilla or warlords game?

AlanH

The next SGOTM will be Vanilla. Other priorities have meant we haven't scheduled the start yet.
