I used to lurk at the RBD forums and the Lurker Lounge for a while (other forums) and i seem to have been paying too much attention to the RBD variants, cause I started a 5cc. Romans. TOE gave me a great tech lead with Atomic theory and Electronics (No rivers! BOO!) and that gave me a tech lead well into Modern. I kept selling my new techs to the world. Here comes the unbelievable bit.
Motorized transportation is discovered. Sell to the world.

Germany first.

Bismarck, what will you offer for Motorized Transportation?

He says:

...

60 gold, world map and...

...

121 gold per turn!!!

And germany honoured the deal!! 121 x 20 turns, plus 60 is 2480 gold earned! Oh, I have some screenies. My income from cities is the same as my income from other civs, plus minus about 50. I am running constant 100% science, and I have a surplus of 200 to 400 gold per turn.

This was warlord, btw. I am going for spaceship.

I wanted to know, has anyone ever gotten more than 121 gpt for a tech?? Just the tech. I think thos might be a record... especially from those German WARMONGERS...

About $250/turn to sell Communism.

Then the civ switched to Coummunism,
could not pay the bill,
and declared war.:crazyeye:

Or was it a private game? Since the civ attacked... it doesnt QUITE count. How many turns was the agreement honoured? Check if the total gold earned was over 3000(12 turns), cause I just set a new personal record; 135 gpt and 350 gold from france for Computers. Those techs are really valuable, it seems.
Oh, and my game ended in a 5-of-7 Diplo victory. All the tech trading paid off.
One abstain from England (I tried to plant a spy there and she declared war and I got a peace treaty) and Gandhi, my only competitor, voted for himself.
A good warlord game, methinks. I feel like moving up to regent for a while unless I get a serious asskicking there...

Under the pre-1.17f days, when the player was the tech broker for the world, it was not uncommon to see incomes of 2000-3000 per turn even at 100% science. Modern era techs sell for ALOT; I have sold some of the last spaceship techs like the Laser for as high as 300g/turn before.

EDIT: Why did you give Motorized Transportation to the GERMANS of all civs? Did you WANT to see Panzers?

Yes, I wanted to see panzers- invading England!
Seriously though... Even the germans will probably not invade when we have MPP, ROP, a luxury deal, I am selling uranium and ALL of my (5) cities have 4 of (best defender). The deal aslo moved them from Polite to Gracious, ensuring their vote 3 turns later.

Erik,

Don't be too comfortable in that situation. I've been in similar situations, and the AI attacked me anyway because I was approaching an end-game victory (space race). The AI will not go down without a fight (although it usually can't do anything to prevent a diplomatic victory)

The situation you laid out, trading away tech to ensure a vote in the UN is a good strategy for sure. But I would echo the cautions of ChrTh on AI aggression; they will sometimes attack for no apparent reason. My two most extreme examples:

1) A game on Regent that I was kicking some serious butt in. I controlled almost 2/3 of the world and was peacefully building to a spaceship victory. Then Germany, a tiny nation on an island, lands a WARRIOR on my territory. I was GIVING them a luxury at the time, so they wouldn't do something as stupid as attacking, right? But they did, initiating war by sending their warrior against a fortified infantry. Bismarck, that was some of the finest :smoke: I have ever seen.

2) Today the Japanese attacked me in my GOTM game, giving me fits. Tokugawa you &%@#$! Let's do a comparison here:

Cities: Him 16, Me 250
Military: Him 25 cavalry and 50 infantry
Me: 50 tanks, 130 workers, very little defenders to save money
Income/turn: Him 500, Me 6000

What an . .. .. .. .. .. .. .! And I had been giving him luxuries for most of the game too. But he couldn't resist going after those 200 undefended cities behind my front lines. I hope the Japanese enjoy the fact that they are now at war with everyone else and stand very little chance of survival. But that idiot is going to cost me points because of war weariness.

The lesson is that the AI can (and probably will) attack at the most bizzare moments, so be prepared.

That is a understatement!

I have had 5 cities losers declare war.
Ally with a 1 city civ - just to have my enemy kill him :flamedevi:
Actually - small civs are the MOST dangerous - they feel they have nothing to lose - I always watch those borders.

I can almost predict someone will attack just as I am ready for the factory rush.

<begin ramble>

So I should have been more afraid? When my cities have culture radius 4, I can see ships approaching easily. If those ships got too close and dont go away, I would have set all cities to build MechInf. I had over 10 000 gold at the time, so I could hurry them easily. 1 draft and 1 hurried each turn is hard to beat when I have sun tzu's. Heal every turn.

Oh yes, and 4 Infantry can fight of 20 Panzers easily. ALl you have to do is:
Fortify in a metropolis.
Own a barax.
Add 10 Artillery.
ANYTHING attacking will have to retreat very quickly.

Infantry fortified in a metropolis have 30 or 25 defence, depending on whether the multipliers stack. 25 defence vs a 16 attack panzer, attacking at like 1 hp, is not scary at all.

Seems like 12 have voted for over 100 gpt- I should have made the last 2 options 100-150 gpt and over 150 gpt.

Lkendter, you didnt answer my question!
