Hi,

I am new to Civ and I have a silly question that I have not able to find the answer to:-

I like to run the research slider as high as possible (For the example below assumes that I am running at 90% research) but what does this mean when I then build building that increase gold or research.

For example if I build a market I think I get a 25% increase on gold. But is this increase on all of the gold or just the 10% that is being left behind after it is getting converted to research.

Or when I build a library I get a 25% boost to research, so is this a boost on the research which is being converted from gold?

One of the things about Civ IV that is easy to get confused is the difference between gold :gold: and commerce :commerce:. Commerce is what you get from cottages, trade routes and rivers. Gold is the % of commerce that you have set on your slider. So if your city generates 20 commerce and your slider is set to 90% science, then you will generate 18 :science: and 2 :gold: . A Library will give you a 25% increase to the beakers in a city for a total of 22.5 :science: (Warlords keeps the fractions). A market will give you a 25% bonus to gold so you will get 2.5 :gold: . AFAIK, the only thing that gives a bonus to commerce is bureaucracy, and only in your capitol.

The Financial trait's bonus is also commerce, not just gold.
