All,

I have a problem; when I play in windowed mode, the top part of the window is hidden behind the mac's menu bar. Thus there are a bunch of buttons that I can't get to, and I am forced to play in full-screen mode.

I have tried all possible resolutions, but I still can't get to the top part of the window. Does anybody have any other suggestions?

Maybe you can chance the resolution, and then move the window. After that you chance the resolution back

You have to play in a window that is one size smaller than your resolution is set to. For example, on one of my machines I have a 1440x900 window on a 1600x1200 monitor. I don't really like to play in a window as you lose the ability to scroll by having your mouse at the edge of the screen. You can actually do something to get that to work, but I didn't think that it worked that well. If you play fullscreen you can get to other programs by hitting command-tab.

Again, I have tried all the resolutions available. It doesn't help.

What size screen are you playing on?

I have a 15" macbook pro. I can run up to 1440x900 (whatever that number is).

In a window, I have 4 choices, and I tried all of them.

Are you sure you turned off Full Screen mode? I have a 1280 x 1024 screen, and if I set any height smaller than 1024 the Civ4 window is centered vertically, and I can see at least part of its top title bar.

I will try again when I get home. What happened before, as I recall, is that each windowed mode was pegged against the top left corner. Even if I changed resolution, the top-left corner was always pegged.

I just tried it using the in-game Options/Graphics screen, and mine also pins the changed window to the top left of the screen and gives the problem you are describing. I've never seen it before, because I never use that method to adjust window size. In fact, having just tested it, my copy of Civ4 hangs after I click 'Yes' to accept the changed size, and I have to force quit it! If you change it to a smaller window and then restart the game, does it still pin to the top left?

Have you tried my method, which involves changing the setting during launch? Hold down the Command key while launching Civ4 to open the display settings dialog, where you can select window or full screen and choose a resolution. You can also check a box to make the dialog reappear each time you launch Civ4.

[UPDATE]
The hang only occurs if I go into Options from the intro menu. If I start a game I can then go into Options, select a smaller window resolution, and accept it. It is then pinned top left as you describe. If I quit and relaunch Civ4, it then centers the window and the title bar is visible.

Thanks for your help! Changing it in-game and re-logging, instead of from the intro screen, worked like a champ.

Good to see you're working now. :D
