I would say if it wasnt for the steep system req's. ( throttle some things so some older PC's can run it, it would be one of the best RTS games out there, but so far it only makes it into the best WW2 rts. Then again, I havent seen too many good ww2 rts' out there either.

I almost had a REALLY nice pic of a tradgen that jumped me taking up most of the screen, but then I moved my mouse wheel and instead of Far Cry I was looking at my desktop.

I find it to be fantastic, but the wargamer in me wishes that the base building aspect was removed altogether. Also, having to personally instruct your troops to throw grenades or retreat can be a pain. But these are minor complaints. :)

The AI is actually pretty challenging, I find, though obviously it could stand to learn a thing or two about tank obstacles. :crazyeye:

They aren't pre-renders, they are in-game shots that I've messed around with. CoH is a top down game but you can zoom right in and check if your troops have tied their boot-laces if you want. :D

How do you get that film reel look?

I used Photoshop Elements 2.0, which is actually quite old, the latest version is 5.0.

Basically, added three effects: a little bit of blur to get rid of the jaggies, then 'film grain' and 'desaturate'. :)

If any CoH players are wondering how to get rid of the UI and other on-screen bits-and-bobs, you can type in two console commands which get rid of all the UI.

First, right click on your CoH shortcut and select properties. In the target line, add "-dev" at the end, like so:

"C:\Company of Heroes\RelicCOH.exe" -dev

Then when in the game (not the menu) hold Ctrl+Shift+@ to open the console. Type in these commands:

"message_hide"
"taskbar_hide"

To get the UI back type:

"message_show"
"taskbar_show"

Done! Unfortunatley 'taskbar_hide' also gets rid of the markings on vehicles, like the Iron Crosses on German vehicles etc. You have to use the shortcut you edited for the commands to work, and you can't use that shortcut for online games either, IIRC.

If anyone is wondering, the little logo in the corner is the Relic logo, the company that made the game. When futzing around with the effects, the logo got all messed up as well, and somehow that really annoyed me, so I copy-pasted an untarnished logo onto each pic. :lol:

And it should be noted that this ship wasn't the one sunk by my torpedo. It was circling overhead far too slowly dropping depth-charges, and kind of killed itself. It sank slow enough for me to realise and take a chance at the second destroyer.

Isn't that a revenge battleship in the first shot. How do you take screenies in SH3? I've actually managed to sneak into a taskforce to fire 4 torpedoes into one of those. One sploded prematurely, one missed and two hit. Oh it went down in the biggest blast I've seen.

Could be it Dido cruiser or something similar in the last? Looks quite heavily armed for a mere destroyer.

First shot isn't my own, I found it on a screenshot thread on a SH3 forum. But as far as I know, it is a battleship.

There's a small spot in the corner of one of the maps in which can be used to get a tank under the map and across the map and of course is a bannable offence. This pic is the after effect of me avoiding a T-34, I didn't manage to avoid the hole. The jeep kept going in circles so we all had to suicide.

I liked it, the only real problem I had with it was controls

but other than that things were pretty cool, you can also steal enemy uniforms, so I had all four of my British troops dressed up in full Wehrmact uniform

except for the character I named for myself, he had an officers uniform, however its cool because you can mix and match, you can either wear an officers cap and look cool, or wear a helmet and actually have your head protected

Call of Duty; United Offensive. The only things that changed were the tanks. That's server specific (aka if the servor/map uses that mod or not). And the crosshairs are changed because a mod on that serv as well (that's why they are bunched up in the middle but accuracy is the same). Also some of the clip sizes are changed, the MP44 on that serv only has 20 rounds per clip. Swaying/movement of gun is also turned off.

Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Just a big family reunion, and then CJ just walks out and then it's just random walking, driving, eating, killing, etc.

While playing a map I got from Stronghold Heaven, can't remember the name exactly, something to do with beavers, I ended up with three herds of deer in one area! And for the next couple of hours I always had one or two herds living in my town. The town is now over twice the size as the minimap in this screeny shows since this was near the beginning.

I was tracking a convoy, and was trying to navigate to a better position when I see that a destroyer is coming in on me - not as a result of spotting me, but simply as part of it's course. I trusted I was deep enough and prayed that my knowledge it hadn't spotted me was accurate. It was :please:

I hid under a C2 cargo ship until the escorts had to leave and join with the convoy.

It did the standard jump out of time compression when my watchman spotted a ship, and I jumped on deck to look for it...it was a C2 Cargo ship, roughly ten metres away and bearing down on us. We just got out of the way as it continued along into the storm - I don't think it had even spotted us :lol:

In my games it usually means ramming speed with a full spread of torpedoes, then death. I like to try and take them with me :evil:

i don't see any chinese forces on that map... unless you were doing a challange, with that stupid U.N. light blue as the chinese color?

Uhmm...I was using Nukes. That should Tell you that Im the Chinese right there. The color was of my own choosing, since its easier for me to see on that map.

My current video card btw, cant render allt he explosions properly, but I made a save right before launching the nukes, so If or when I do get a new video card, Ill play through again, see what happens then. ( or rather, how pretty it looks)

Hmm, I don't remember any gas mines in the Korriban tombs... But, it's been a while since i've played it.

HK-47 is a real ass in KOTOR II, it takes forever to repair him, and then you have to spend ages talking to him about random stuff. Along with that, you get chased by rogue HK-47's... :crazyeye:

Very good Kan. I used to pull those a lot in SH3 (once with three ships). Haven't managed one yet in SH4.

I've never seen two freighters on their own in SH3, it was always just the one or convoys. Seems a bit commonplace in SH4 - I've stumbled across another pair in the same mission.

Annoyingly, I didn't notice the second one, which spotted me just as I launched a torp at the first. It was my own fault for being so cocky in the full moon, but I had an interesting gunfight with the ship, culminating in this:

The most encounters I had in SH3 were freighter pairs unescorted. I had a lot of practice with simultaneous hits. Learning to time the torpedoes for convoy attacks is good. The enemy has not time to react when four ships get hit within 10 seconds. The steam running T1's with selectable speed were good for this.

What sub, Darth Pugwash? So far I've only got porpoise and gato.

What are your computer specs? My computer is kind of old and I'm not sure it could play it decently, since I've heard it's badly optimized.

C2D6300 , GF7900 , 1GB. Not too fast, but it runs very good. fps 80-140 (1024x768) outdoors according to fraps. Indoors it jumps to over 200 sometimes. I don't remember what settings I had but I'd suspect they're almost maxed out.

Hmm, I'm guessing I won't be able to play it very well, how do you think a Radeon X850, 768mb RAM, and an Athlon 2400 should do? I'm guessing not very well.

It'll do just fine, drop resolution and details and it should run. The minimum is R9600, XP2200+ and 512MB.

also one moment that sticks out in my mind but would be impossible to screenshot, In Hidden and Dangerous I was fighting agianst a bunch of Italians in a snipe war, one of them shot my helmet off so naturally i went after it....

however, the weapons they've come up with are interesting, like Zepplins with cannons, Jetpacks, Exo Skeletons, so on

the storys interesting too, get to kill a watered down Hitler.... he lacks a mustache and is only called "Leader" but besides that it looks like him, I assume the game is sold in Germany, thus the lack of actual Hitler

WARNING: It is possible to BREAK the game. Like I did thus making it impossiable to advance the mainstory line ruining your hard work.

you have been warned.

that aside you must have done a hell of a lot of barkeep missions to get those artifcates as rewards. I only got them around the mid-late part of the game and they were all very rare being located at specific locations only once. (Veteran difficulty) for stalker difficulty artifcates do respawn and you can get them more often from the baddies.

WARNING: Make sure you bring at least two fireball artifates for the "wish granter" As you'll find out the radiation there is extremely high and your health is constantly being drainned for most of that mission.

Why fireballs. I already have three urchins :p. And those moonlights? are not rewards. First was in the tunnels under Agroprom, two in wild territory and two from stashes. I'm saving money to buy better armor for Pripyat. It's hard to stay alive there without some serious protection because of all the snipers. Remember that I'm playing on the hardest difficulty. 1 Hit from the SVD or the railgun is almost a certain death.

good luck with the amour I wore the combat seta amour and it quickly turned black for all the hits in the end the Rad reisitance went from 90% to 31% so I ended up ditching it.

I also found I was being killed very quickly by the mutants and abnormaliese which get stronger as you get closer to the wish granter. I had to equip "soul"
anyway good luck for the final fight its combat heavy.

Yes I did. THe problem I had with nades was that they bounced or rolled too far, or that the other person was out of range.

You've really got to learn the timing and trajectory of a grenade in order to be effective with them.

You should start playing again. But if you do, watch out for me. :p If I have an SSG I can easily put a bullet through your head from the other side of the map. ;)

In that kind of situation you can't really do anything else than die...

At least 1 detroyer pinging you at any given time, while others just wait for their turn to make an attack run. Their estimations about my location were max 20m off so it doesn't really give much time to dodge.

Reminds me of one Enemy Territory Map in which I won almost ALL the awards.l
Playing Axis Engineer the game which was right down the WIRE. The game ended with me rushing the bomb site killing three allied soliders and defusing two bombs the game ending about 6 seconds afterwards.

I don't play on 64 servers. Too much chance for tking. I do play alot on full 32 servers and top them.

My favourite scream is when they accuse you of cheating - "HAXOR, LAME, KICK PLZ!"

I consider it a point of honour to achieve such cries :smug:

And the real treat is to see someone who actually cheats. If you go to observer mode you'll see their skills dwindle really fast or they quit.

Who would want to use observer mode for BF2 or BF2142 but then again starcraft is one of teh toprated spectator sports in south korea

When you suspect someone of cheating go to the observer mode. In CS for example if you know what to look for you can spot if someone is using aimbot, wallhack or spiked models. The cheaters don't want to get caught so if they see someone entering observer mode they turn the cheats off or use them sparingly (their efficiency in the game drops) and they fall quickly in the ranks. Either that or they quit.

I quit playing CS several years ago. I got tired of the cheaters and fragbrag.

I got Sims 2 today, though I'm cynically shocked that it still hasn't been reduced in price since it's release. Regardless, I'm recreating the old flat I loved in with my friends.

I wasn't playing on Minsk, I was playing on Fall of Berlin. Also I didn't notice Mattsville join but I have played with him before so I guess he did just join.

Now the on the other hand Baur is the weapon of the truly skilled.

At the time the Voss was a field unlock. I unlocked the Baur ages ago, I prefer the Baur over the voss.

Yes, the Baur is a beast of a weapon. Hits like a truck. Burst fire is the way to go.

-- this isnt a screenshot of mine, but it was a friends. The backstory is this: They were playing OFP, with a mod of some sort ( I cant keep track). Anyways, there was a APC they were driving around, that had a sensor mast. It was a great APC, it had night vision, long zoom, even its own UAV. One of the guys managed to run upside down, and broke the mast at the back of it off. Well, my friend went up to grab some of the stuff that fell out of that guy ( he died in the crash), and he got an option to get into the rear of the APC. Seeing as it only had 3 seats, and the rear wasnt one of them. He proceeded to climb in, and this resulted.

That's like the bugs in Hidden&Dangerous. One time I got a commando killed by trying to run next to a german tiger. The tiger shot the commando and as a result a 50m tall german soldier grew out of the tank standing there with the tank as his other shoe.

however my backup guitarist decided to complain, cancelled the trip just before we got to moscow, and we would have made TONS of money in Moscow..

How is Fable? I've read mixed reviews about it, but that doesn't have to mean a thing.

It's a fun blast, but nowhere near the massive 'full freedom' hype that I believe was built up in advance. It's very linear, probably less so than several RPG's on the PC :)

Also Allied tank feel way overpowered or Axis tanks way underpowered. In a one on one between a Sherman and a Panther the Panther will barely win. In a one on one between a Pershing and a Tiger the Pershing will usually win(then again they may just be using a special ability from that tree that lets them repair themselves.)

After you get the game, and get to know how to play it, get KMOD. Makes the game oh so fun, but at times will lag even the most beastly computers ( My friend usually gets 55 fps on it at max settings at 1600x1200, but this mod lagged him down to 25 on medium at that resolution

Try the KMOD. Balances things out, and makes the tiger tank a buildable unit ( and oh so overpowered)

Those coke bottles (vases) were the pride and joy of the living room. And provided much hilarity when someone missed a shot in Juggling Ball Tennis :p

Pets seems fun, though I haven't done much with them yet. Haven't even tried to teach Smokey any commands, or used her to gain money. I just like having a cat around the house.

It depends on what you are expecting.
If you expect nothing then it will be GREAT.
If you expect a hardcore RPG with 100+ hours of gameplay and 1000 variables then you will be disapointed.
If you expect a relatively short (aprox 15 hours of gameplay) and fun rpg (like i did) then it will be great.

well you know, cats can still be handy, if you happen to have mice or something drawn in by your "Coke Bottles" :p

anyway, I've begun loading up Black and White 2..... I gotta admit, I disliked the first one when the most I could do was throw children across an island.. but now with war, frankly I cant wait to get this thing working
