Well, me and Elohim were wondering how old people who play RFC are, on average. It started off when we saw so many teenagers on the photos thread.

So here's an age poll!

Thanks TT! I was too busy to make it myself :)

PS: Elhoim what is your soccer team? ( please don't say Vélez Sarsfield! >_< )

We need at least a draw =x.

Well, there is any poll like this about Civilization IV? will the results be differents?

It seems like there's a greater proportion of teenagers who are active in this forum compared the people that have voted.

Oh and I'm 17.

Maybe younger people are more conserned about giving away info over the net than older people (we got an assembally today saying if you met anyone over the net they would hunt you down and rape you, or something similar....)

I must say Kairob that just a person with a very bad taste will want to rape you :p

I'm 21 and would post a photo except I don't like giving out personal info over the internet. And this isn't the photo thread. You darn teenagers. *shakes gnarled stick*

Back when I was your age, I, uh...

registered for CFC? And didn't post much?

I would just like to point out that Talkie clearly has something against those people of my age since he left out the 41-45 range:crazyeye:

I wonder if I am the only 40+ year old playing this mod. And for those of you who are wondering, no I don't still live with my parents in the basement.

Well my dad actually plays it sometimes, and he's in the 45-50 category. ;) He loved RoX too.

I'm 22. Nice to see a lot of teenagers here. Here where I live, teenagers just play soccer and driving games. Strategy games are seen as "adult-oriented". Curiously, people over thirty years old tell in the polls around here that their favourite games are soccer and driving games... So strategy-gamers are usually between.
But I guess this only happens here on Spain

Oh, I think that the best games of the world are: Civilization and Winning Eleven... =P so i'm in the middle field.

I like soccer games, shoot games too ( but mostly Star Wars ones :P ) and strategy/RPG ( Civilization and the old rpg games like Chrono Trigger/Seiken Densetsu 3 ).

But we need to agree that there is a lot of boring Strategy games out there! Normally the ones that have superb graphics aren't very good in the gameplay...

I agree that this game is awesome for all ages, it's funny because I have learned so much history in response to interest from Civ- I remember playing Civ1 during my downtime after completing typing class in elementary school... now I will never not know about the 7 wonders+ of the world :D

Bob III

I'm 13 (14 in 8 days). I'm the only person in my eighth grade class who would ever have any interest in strategy games. Civ3 taught me about some of the greatest historical leaders and wonders when I was younger, 'cept for a few mis-leads like Joan d' Ark/Arc (can't remember).

Not a problem. That is exactly what I did.

Only a few of my friends that play computer games play Civ too. Most like the FPS or WWII combat games.

strategy/RPG ( Civilization and the old rpg games like Chrono Trigger/Seiken Densetsu 3 ).

OH! I LOVE old rpg games. I think I've played (and finished) almost all ones from SNES. I haven't a MegaDrive, so I guess I will use an emulator. Hope SEGA won't mind ;). And I have still HUNDREDS of games for NES to play. Hope Nintendo won't miss this one, also. But, man, Civ is just too good. I never have time for them... :)

Edungeon

If you wantto play MegaDrive, try Phantasy Star. This RPG is awesome! I like the history of the first and the fourth. The most dificult is the 3rd.

PS: Chronno Trigger is better than any new RPG! >_< It is the best RPG ever XD!

LuKo
Mar 17, 2007, 07:44 AM
Chrono Trigger is great! (BTW: I don't like words: "Old game". Old games for me are games made before ~1985)

Edungeon
Mar 17, 2007, 07:49 AM
Well, the game is 3 generations old ( N64, GC and Wii ) so we can call it old... =p

And I think the only RPG in 3Ds that are worth playing are: FF7 and Kingdom Hearts...

PS: I think we should make a RPG thread xD

:old: All these younguns, takin' our mods! Back in my day, we had proper graphics, all 2D they were, ah, they were great times. We didn't have all this "dynamic rise and fall" malarky! Oh no! We had pong and tetris, and we were glad of it!

I remember when all this was CivII! Oh yes, just CivII as far as the eye could see!

Graphics? Graphics?! In my day we had to draw the map ourselves! Oh yes! And we were better people for it!

Sorry, couldn't resist :p

@Talkie_Toaster: Great quote, but don't underestimate old PC games. I know some die-hard adventure fans who love the good old adventure games and keep telling me that they were so much better written. Just think of how funny and difficult Lemmings or Worms could be. The X-Com franchise was never better than the first game. And how Z made me laugh. The graphics today are so much better than 10 or 15 years ago, but too many companies today just put too much money and focus into the graphics and too little into the writing or actual gameplay.

Aren't Oblivion and Morrorwind RPGs? In my eyes adventures are Monkey Island, Beneath a Steel Sky, Gabriel Knight, etc. Adventures are a matter of solving riddles or puzzles, while RPGs are usually about being someone (usually someone extraordinary) in a fantasy world, where you can talk and fight a lot. And of course modern RPGs offer far bigger (and emersive) worlds than 10 years ago. My point is that old games often had some kind of wit and charm to compensate for the uninteresting graphics that frequently lacks in modern games.;) Suum cuique.:)

How would you classify The Legend of Zelda series then? I'm personally fine with them being called either Adventure or RPG. Please don't call them Adventure RPGs though.

There isn't any real "RPG" game, because just you don't Roleplay in eletronic games... :mischief:

Best old games ever:

Phantasy Star I
Phantasy Star II
Phantasy Star III
Phantasy Star IV

(voted in 10-15) :p

Actually, you can consider FPS's as RPG's (you roleplay the shooter - you decide what he/she does), RTS's as RPG's (you roleplay the usually nameless general/tactician/captain/whatever/godlike entitiy), "RPG"'s and adventure games as RPGs (you take the role of fate and destiny), and even simulation games as RPG's (you take the role of God/godlike entity/godlike mayor of SimCity).

Yes folks, ALL games are roleplaying games. It's just not exactly always the characters you roleplay. ;)

If you think on it, much of every game, not just videogames, and much of every aspect of life, it's a RPG. But that's an overextension of the term. When I speak of RPGs, I speak of what every of us will call a RPG. a game where you role one or more characters and their destiny in the world, under a given story.

In fact, some friends and me started one summer to "roleplay a common day of your life". It got boring when the GM made monsters starting to appear  . Then we returned to common board RPGs.

A yup, same here. It needs to have a good plot in order for me to consider a game an RPG. For example:

Good story: Chrono Trigger
Bad Story: Quest64

has anyone ever played Ultima Underworld 1 or 2?

I think that they're the best RPG ever made (compared to the era, of course: 1991 and 1993).

I am very nostalgic of abandonware.
Some games like those 2, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Monkey Island, Red Baron, F-19, Civ1, and many others....they made me dream

The best game I've played it's indeed Suikoden. The best combination between RPG and strategy game I've ever seen. And the only RPG (to call it in some way) I've played where there are over 100 playable characters, each one with his/her own plot, their own stile of fight, etc. And some characters could do special combos if their were put altogether... Who will expect the Palace fisherman, the Palace cooker, and the one of the ninjas would have a special combo? Only if you track their story, you will know...
That they were all habitual gamblers in the inn of the town the Vampire Lord attacked!! Their special attack makes random damage to all enemy (it was called something like Mortal Dice!)

Details like this make a game worth to play to the bitter end!

EDIT: and, of course, CIV IV with RFC mod! ;)
