View Full Version : Jurassic Park should have a GOOD game
West 36 Mar 18, 2007, 01:46 AM I'm thinking Jurassic Park would be a great setting for something like and FPS. Think DOOM with dinosaurs. Weather effects and the environment would be great, and you never know if your heads gonna be bitten off around the corner. Or you could just be a dinosaur and go out killing people. Either way, just seems like a good idea that they should jump on. Agree or no?
Maniacal Mar 18, 2007, 02:46 AM I keep thinking of Jurassic Park while playing Far Cry. Except instead of dinos there's these mutant primeapes that seem only capable of killing (and of coruse great acrobatics >_<) and mercenaries.
Kan' Sharuminar Mar 18, 2007, 05:45 AM A game to beat the likes of Trespasser? Never!
puglover Mar 18, 2007, 09:25 AM It's not FPS, but Operation Genesis was an awesome game.
Captain2 Mar 18, 2007, 11:37 PM well one thing, a t-rex isnt exactly a stealth killer

lol, think of any fps you've played online, there is always the crazy guy who runs around shooting anything that moves. And after awhile you may get bored with sneaking, and at the end of the day you just wanna scare the sh!t outta people and tear them limb from limb. Thats what the t-rex would be like, or the raptors. AHH it would be awesome to do that online. running away from a real thinking rex? Throw in some guns and vehicles and you wont need anything else.
Maniacal Mar 19, 2007, 12:00 AM Heh, or even better, have a dinos vs hunters mode!
nonconformist Mar 23, 2007, 11:02 AM Like Turok, you mean?
Synsensa Mar 23, 2007, 06:59 PM A good Jurassic Park game would be welcome... VERY welcome.

I enjoyed it the game too, despite some shortcomings. I never liked the fact it made the raptors look cute. Or the fact they made JP look more like a themepark rather than a safari. It was good though, got it for PS2 when I had one, then later for PC when I got rid of the console :)
Like Turok, you mean?
See, I half-liked Trespasser for being the crap it was. I have never liked Turok.
Captain2 Mar 23, 2007, 07:42 PM when it comes to genesis i dont see the raptors as cute....
ever since one of my observation baloons got hit by lighting, of all the cages it crashed in with the raptors....
fully loaded, only one survivor
Kan' Sharuminar Mar 23, 2007, 07:44 PM Yeah, but they run from anything bigger than them in the most adorable way...
Honestly, Velociraptors are nothing, ye old Deinonychus is where it's at.
Captain2 Mar 23, 2007, 07:50 PM T-Rex dude....thats where its at
nothing like building a car ride through the T-Rex cage :p
I seriously wonder why i still have a park
Kan' Sharuminar Mar 23, 2007, 07:58 PM T-Rex draws the audiences...though probably not the car-ride ones...
Whups.
Cornstalk Mar 23, 2007, 09:02 PM Jurrassic Park might have had some more interesting shooter games if it had at least come out (probably the movies more then the novel) during the 64 bit era of the N64, PSX, and Even the Dreamcast or later.
Unfortunately, it came out right in the prime of the 16 bit era, which lead to a few so-so games... but then games based on movies are junk most of the time anyway.
Jurassic Park for the Sega Genesis was a platforming game that let you play as Grant OR a Raptor. The grant part was pretty standard pitfall stuff, but the raptor portion of the game was kind of fun. It really didn't give you enough of a killer dinosaur feel though, but I blame that on the limits of the systems at the time.
The Super Nintendo version was a top down + FPS shooter. The island itself was top down and was down right MASSIVE to explore. Unfortunately there was no in game mapping system or even a lot of clues, so it was frustratingly easy to get lost unless you really payed attention. The FPS portions were decent for a 16 bit system, very doom like, but painfully slow paced and lacking in variety as you only faught raptors and the spitters in them. All in all though, I really enjoyed this game at the time.
There was also a Jurrassic Park II for the SNES, but it was done in a contra style sidescroller and was extremely hard and frustratingly confusing. I never made it very far in this game and it didn't offer anything special to make it worth finding anyway, in my anyway.
Really though, I don't think Jurrassic Park from the Novels or even the movies offer a lot of content for a good game without giving the audience a sense of "the book was better" or "this is just plain stupid". But then if you wanted a game about being or beating dinosaurs, what better title to give it then Jurassic Park to boost sales, even if the game was junk? Curse you marketting department for knowing how to get to our wallets!
