Empire Gréco-Bactrien : I say it in French because it's Francophony day. It's not hard to say because of the Unit name in the pic : Baktrioi Agemata.

 sorry but no. You are close though. I will give you all a hint. The Baktrians were part of this empire before breaking away in the 250's b.c.e. The only reason the Baktrioi Agemata comes up is because it was the only UU I have created that was a Spearman as well and used spearman animations. However when it is in the game I will not use it to replace a Spearman as the tactics these elite warriors employed were more like that of a Roman legion ( and they had definate Roman influences, however were not Roman) so he will replace a Swordsman is my thinking right now. That will also make him available around the time when these units were coming into their own historically. Well I think that a big enough hint. :goodjob:

Is it some kind of Seleucid unit?

Is it some kind of Seleucid unit?

DING DING We have a winner. Yes it is a Seleucid Thorakitai Argyraspidai and as mentioned above they were an elite unit in the Hypaspistai that would lead the charge and an enemy line. They never numbered all that many in the Hypaspistai, about 1000 Thorakitai among 6000 Hypaspistai. And they were extremely expensive to keep. By the time they were in service the Seleucid empire was already in deep financial troubles as well as in constant war with Egypt. Perhaps if they had been devloped earlier they could have greatly helped the Empire in it greatst time of need, however they were notably absent from Raphia. And in the battle against the Romans in Macedon they had already become a non factor. A pitty as their skills could have helped the Seleucid kings greatly.

Haven't you played Rome:TW? The persian main force is made of spearmen who wear jammies.

Anyway, the unit looks very nice :goodjob:

Yes I know the game. Creative Assembly created many historical inaccuracies with that game. One of those being the pyjama troops ( Hillmen I believe they called them.) However these guys existed as a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield. They were considered the Elite of the elite. To give you a modern world equivelent Special Forces are considered elite in many world armies. Lets use the US army. ( primarily because the US is so widely known) Inside that group of Elite soldiers are groups like the 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta ( Delta Force for all us mortals  ) The Thorakitai Argyraspidai would have been considered on the same level of "elite" status for lack of a better term as the Deltas. Each man was a hardened veteran of many battles, and as such wealthy enough to foot the bill for the expensive chain mail and weapons. The only reason they were not deployed more is because at the time of their development ( as stated above) the Seleucids were in grave economic trouble.:D

BTW: I haven't played vanilla Rome:TW in over 2 years. I play Europa Barbarorum almost exclusively now. If you love Rome:TW you really should check it out. Its the best mod ever created for that game!;)
