View Full Version : Is Babylon UHV doable in v1.43??
waylander Mar 19, 2007, 09:55 AM I tried 5 games with Babylon last night, researching directly to Writing. All five games China beat me to it. I don't believe the UHV is possible anymore with the current state of 1.43. Either Writing needs to be changed to something else or China needs to be modified so it does not always research Writing first.
Whitefire Mar 19, 2007, 10:52 AM Thats always been an issue, but I've never seen someone lose 5 starts to China. What difficulty level are you playing at?

Edungeon Mar 19, 2007, 11:07 AM It is a matter of luck... China always beat you with they go to Writing. My first tries with Babylon I was beat 4 games in a row, but i finnaly manage to get it first.
After that it is very easy...

Just the standard one (Monarch?).

If China goes for Writing 80% or 90% of the time then this is not a very good UHV. UHVs should be hard but they shouldn't be stacked so that no matter what you do you WILL lose 4 times out of 5 with no chance of altering the results.
Did you win on v1.43 or an earlier version?
Edungeon Mar 19, 2007, 12:49 PM It was a earlier version, though... =p
I tried here, i played 5 games, and in all china beat me to Writing =(
Whitefire Mar 19, 2007, 08:23 PM Writing is on the path to Mathematics, which is vital to China's UHV. I don't see that changing.
Whitefire Mar 19, 2007, 08:50 PM How about starting Babylon with Pottery? Or half of Pottery?
Edungeon Mar 20, 2007, 05:28 AM But this will make the UHV very easy... because Babylon UHV is just like a big well thought puzzle...
Pottery Mar 20, 2007, 03:58 PM Same here: I was beaten by China six times in a row, and managed to get Writing first only at the seventh attempt. (RCFW 143, standard difficulty level).
Jaguar Mar 20, 2007, 06:46 PM Just a general Babylon question: is there any way of letting Persia spawn and still winning by Space Race or some other late-game victory? It seems like Persia can usually rough you up no matter what. Maybe getting to BW, keeping control of the Copper, and building spearmen can keep the immortals at bay.

The only way to win as babylon in late-game for me is a Diplomatic win with OCC o_o
